I actually really liked this buffet until I saw all the little Mexican kids sticking their fingers in the food and that turned me off from going there. I haven't been back since. My Grandma and Uncle turned me on to this place and I don't think they've been back either. Especially since they are germaphobes. I really can't understand why those people can't control their kids and understand they are NOT allowed at the buffet counters!!! I use to go here often. They had fresh food. A nice eating enviornment, with a huge selectio. Of good foods.

As far as buffet goes, it is not as bad yet not as good to me either. My family likes going to this place because they enjoy the seafood and many other simple entrees. When i went, it was too crowded and super hungry people pushing you out of the way to grab food. It was too over crowded for me. I dont think i will be back unless family wants me to go. We have eaten at Buffet King several times and enjoy the food for selection, freshness and the staff keeping it available and edible. The sushi is good and the Mongolian BBQ is great for the price. However, last night will leave a lasting negative feeling toward this place. We were seated promptly and politely. Then our server comes to take our beverage order - IN SPANISH!! I looked at her funny and she repeated - IN SPANISH! I was very taken back and requested English after which she began in very short broken sentences. The reason for my rating is the service received and not for the food. To be brief: don't bother, especially if you are black or in an inter-racial relationship. Let me clarify. As you can obviously see, I am a white woman. My beloved husband, a good and decent man, happens to be black. Christmas evening, as we were going for a casual drive around the city, we decided to stop at Buffet King for a plate of take-out. He dropped me at the door and went to park the car. I went in and ordered, and was told it would only be a few minutes. I sat down and waited for our food. My husband came in and walked right over to where I was waiting. The minute he set foot inside, one of the male employees came right over to him and got in his face.....what did he want, what was he doing, and so on. It was a BLATANT racial attack. My husband replied that he was with his wife and we were waiting for our food. The creepy, racist employee kept it up, and ultimately my husband went outside in order to avoid a confrontation. Our order ended up taking a half hour......have you ever waited that long for an order of Chicken Egg Foo Young? Me, neither. Well, as we were finally leaving, and my husband was walking me to the car, the same employee was outside and made a few more bigoted comments. To put the cherry on the sundae, when we got home our order was not what we had ordered and paid for. We got Vegetable Egg Foo Young instead of chicken. My beloved is a peaceful man, and didn't want me to make anything of the incident. However, I'm from NY and have no trouble standing up for myself or defending my loved ones. I happen to work in Capital Plaza, and after work today I strolled on down to give the management a piece of my mind. I was polite, but firm in explaining the situation. The manager was not only unhelpful, he was downright belligerent, defending his ignorant employee and refusing to make any resolution to my complaint. He also refused to give me any contact information for their corporate headquarters. He did take my name and number, but I sincerely doubt I will hear anything further from them. And, if this story hasn't convinced you to go elsewhere for your Chinese food fix, the food is bland and unremarkable (at best), and ridiculously overpriced for the quality. I'm finally recovered enough to make this review. I have too much to say about this place. My first thoughts when my family and I went into this Buffet King on Sunday night was "I'm self diagnosing myself with claustrophobia" kids were screaming and crying while others were getting chased by their parents and I saw one getting burped in the buffet area (??!!) My second thought was, seeing a 7 or 8 year old boy behind the cash register, I'm almost positive the second these kids can walk they start working here. Anyway, so far there's a hectic and messy atmosphere! Next is food. This buffet really did have everything. Usually that's a good thing, but looking at it all in one place made me a little uneasy. It's hard to explain, but when I see raw Mongolian stir fry meats and sushi to my left, it's unsettling to turn to my right and see chicken nuggets, stacked slices of pizza, and enchiladas. When walking through the buffet area, I'm not exaggerating when I say this, it smelled like unhygienic body odor. So, what we went there for was the all you can eat sushi. It was okay, nothing special, I've actually had better Kroger sushi, but this wasn't horrible either. Fast forward to Tuesday morning and I wake up throwing up, which for me isn't unusual since that has happened on my medication before, so I don't think much of it. I go to see if my dad is up for work yet and he says he's not going because he feels so sick. hmm... I turn on my shower then stop before I get in to throw up again. Something wasn't right. I check my phone and see a snapchat notification from the friend who had sushi with me and my family Sunday night and it says and I quote "dude I think I got food poisoning from the sushi??!!!" Then it all made sense. Basically me, my whole family, and friend got food poisoning from the sushi there and the rest of the food wasn't even good. You're better off going to McDonald's than needing to diarrhea and vomit constantly. I even FAINTED while on my toilet, I'm serious. For the passed three days I was in a living HELL and now I have to catch up on notes, homework, and study all my schoolwork while being prepared to fail. King this place is not. Maybe a mayor? Not really, probably more of a Buffet Peasant. Very Americanized Chinese food. Stuff here can be found at every corner Chinese restaurants lunch buffet. You know the one with the word, Wok, or Garden, or China in the name. Nothing special, pathetic "sushi" selection. If it didn't call itself Buffet King, I would give it 3 stars for average Chinese buffet. But since it did declare itself the King, it has to be judged based on more kingly standards. read more

Went to eat with my husband and kids. The sushi was great but when it came to the food i was a bit disappointed. On one of the pieces of chicken i found a hair. When i told management he laughed and said it was chicken hair and not to worry about it. I do not care if it is chicken hair or human hair i don't think food should have neither one. "Meh" is the perfect word to describe the food at this place. It certainly isn't inedible, but it's just not very good. My hopes were up a little higher than they should have been when I saw the guy making fresh sushi behind the counter and the Mongolian stir fry station, but all around the food was bland, mushy, and unremarkable when it wasn't downright bad (the sesame balls, vegetarian egg rolls, and chicken with broccoli were particularly egregious). I ended up hardly eating anything savory and filled up on soft serve ice cream. It's a shame because otherwise this place is really nice. So there are not many places that I'm not very satisfied with. I had a few items being this was my first time here. I did not find anything that distinguished this place from other buffets. It was crowded but we were seated quickly and the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The food was hot, looked appealing, and was constantly being refilled. They had a decent variety of seafood and sushi although I wasn't in a sushi mood on this day (I didn't think that that could ever be possible). We went there Sunday and everything was great.. The food was very good with nice selections. The service was also good. Plates were cleared before we returned from the buffet. If you are going for a Sunday lunch be advised to get there before Noon as it gets crowded quickly. read more

Every time I see this restaurant advertised on TV, I feel like vomitting. I wanted to forget my bad experience in this restaurant. On our third visit, after I ate all my food from my plate I took a second plate for more food. That was when I saw a bug crawling on my food! We all lost our appetite!!! Never again!!! And also, before we even got seated, the tables and chairs are filthy and sticky! Originally, we got seated in the back area and that was smelly!!!! So we moved to a different table! As far as Chinese Food buffets, this is one of the best here in Austin. Consistent flavor. Adequately staffed and stocked. Food is very tasty and fresh. I saw the commerical on T.V. and I thought I would take my dad there since he loves Chinese food. I did read the reviews other people left but I decided to try it anyway. I took my mom, dad, and son to the resteraunt. The resteraunt itself is nice but it does have flies. My family and I kept shooing them off while we were eating. I did not like the food it was really bland. They had enchiladas on the buffet and pizza (which I thought was weird). My son did get the pizza took one bite and said it was gross. There was ALOT of fried food on the buffet which I don't really care for. I tried the Hot and Sour soup (which is one of my all time favorite soups) it was blah. I tried various dishes and no one in my family was impressed. I actually felt bad for bringing my family to this resteraunt. I should have listened to the other Yelpers about this place. This place was terrible. The more and more I ate here I became disgusted. I don't think I had the highest expectations going in. I only wish we kept on driving. The food was either over cooked and had been sitting for some time or it just looked terrible. The sushi bar had some hope but it feel apart as I ate it. Look, let's be real here folks: The place is PACKED on Saturday nights, noisy, and messy, and the bathrooms are well, nasty. BUT, it is CHEAP, and (major shocker) YUM! It fits FIRMLY under the cliche of "Don't judge a book by it's cover". Sure, it's hard to ignore the chaos around you, but after taking a few bites of their fried plantains and some of their (shockingly) decent sushi, you can block out the chaos. And it's easy on the wallet. If you need a place to go food-nuts for less than $10 and don't mind what it looks like, then Buffet King is for you! Hubby and I will be back. So the new place looked awesome barely entering the premises. The trains seemed to offer a variety of foods. Was very excited to dig in.... The waitress was very prompt to seat us and get our drinks. Now... As I always start witha sampling plate. One piece of each dish they offer that most buffets offer... They all tasted to each other. Nothing exceptional, bland actually. I went on a Saturday afternoon and this place was hopping! It was pretty nice looking inside and had plenty of space. The food was OK , all the fried foods were done pretty good which shouldn't be a surprise but some of the other stuff was mediocre and bland. The service was good the Mongolian chef was fast and there were tons of employees running around switching out food and filling drinks grabbing finished plates and encouraging more visits to the buffet! But for $11 bucks the food wasn't worth stopping in for, might give it another try day but I highly doubt it! read more

Terrible service. I've come here numerous times, and never have I ever been treated so rudely. Party of 5. We weren't all fully inside the doors when the young hostess at the front yelled at us "HOW MANY" no hi, welcome, etc. And not just once, but twice. To top it off, the other hostess/waiter/manager not sure what he was, was so impatient, he snatched our party number off of my brother's hand when we didn't move quick enough. Trying to make us sit at a 4 person table after we had requested a larger table various times. Then they kept being rude because we refused to sit at a 4 person table/booth. I work at a bank, so I know exactly how important customer service is. Apparently some of the employees don't seem to get that. If i wanted to pay to eat at a restaurant that has terrible service, i would have gone to Dick's in SA. They at least get PAID to be rude. read more

I can't believe this place isn't at least 4 stars! I have been here 8+ times and have never had a bad experience.
