They humiliate you and take nothing that you bring in to exchange. They had a sign that said they were looking for jean shorts, and the name-brand ones we brought in were promptly declined. As we were leaving, the "clothes inspector" woman accepted something that looked like a ripped up curtain from the girl behind us, claiming it was "vintage". I love it here. I do a lot of trading here (used to work in fashion) and I always leave with something that I feel lucky to have found. The staff is awesome, I know some of their names and some of them know mine. They are so friendly, upbeat and love clothes. Buffalo Exchange is people watching at it's finest. I don't understand the reviewers that get sand in their bathing suit over them not taking all their clothes.... edit what you bring and don't have expectations... maybe don't take 4 garbage bags of stained clothes on a saturday... buying: this is a total hit or miss. sometimes i go in and i find a handful of stuff that's at just the right price. other times i go in and the only good things are the "new" things they have hanging with the resale items. and those are NOT priced well. i might as well go to urban outfitters down the street for those items! it's weird because you'd think they'd have a better selection and that i'd find more seeing how picky they are when they buy back your things. selling: they are extremely selective with what they take. a lot of the time i would just end up donating the rest of my items even though i know it's worth trying again at another time or season. at that point it's more out of convenience so i can empty out my crowded closet and not have to bring the bags of clothing back home. i've been more lucky with selling than buying lately. i bring in a lot of items that are in great condition or even new! i definitely recommend standing there while they view your items so that if they have questions you can answer them. i know that's helped sold an item many times in my case. they will ask how much you bought it for or where you bought it..and if it's a "boutique" item...they all of a sudden value it more. i still drop by every once and a while. i'm a sucker for resale stores and always hope to find that perfect thing at the right price....but unfortunately haven't found much there lately. read more

My vintage shopping in the Phoenix area has been disappointing so far. Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Savers are in their separate boat of cheap stuff that is rarely vintage. Buffalo Exchange shouldn't even be called vintage, because it is not. It is much more of a consignment store. Most of the things are new (or lightly worn) and are cheaper than retail prices but more expensive than Goodwill. The selection really isn't bad. I have found a few things here I am really happy with. Example: A sweet pair of orange high heels from Steve Madden I think. (I don't really give a crap about brand names, I buy things because I like em, no matter the name). They were thirty bones (not too cheap) but probably a lot less than they would have been at the mall (I am guessing, 60?). Its still a fun store despite the vintage confusion. Everyone who works there I think gets all the good clothes first because they are always so freakin' adorable! Super friendly (not the fake kind either, can you believe someone is f*cking the handshake in this metropolis?). So get over there. You will find some good stuff. Just don't even bother selling anything unless it is high end brand name or the best vintage find you have ever gotten (and that one is even not a guarantee). read more

Most of the stuff here is new, not used, and these are NOT thrift store prices. you can randomly find some deals on name brand stuff like Volcom and Lucky jeans, but i don't usually even bother stopping in here anymore. they have shoes, selection is hit or miss, purses (new and used), jewelry (new), hats (new and used), house wares (new)...they've really expanded -literally and figuratively - in the last 12 years or so since i've been going. don't bother trying to sell something unless it's a really sweet vintage piece or top brand label and with the tags still attached... that's all they will tell you they can take at any given time, yet they must keep it all for themselves because i rarely see that kind of merch out on the floor. read more

So, I went to Phoenix this weekend and obviously bookmarked this Buffalo Exchange first. As what I would like to think, I am a bad-a Buffalo extraordinaire. Here are my thoughts: 1. Parking was great. Being so near to ASU I was weary of a possible parallel park in my rental car, but my nerves were calmed when I saw the lot with plenty of spaces. 2. This is a larger Buffalo. The racks are spread out and there is plenty of space for more than one person to be sifting through a rack. 3. What was most frustrating to me was the lack of unique styles on the racks. Usually a Buffalo in a college town means great finds. 4. Prices. Above average. 5. I'll try the other location next time I'm in town. read more

If you can't find blouses at the thrift stores around you, come here! It seems overpriced, but the quality of the clothes is worth the price you pay. A huge variety of jeans and shoes as well. Is this store the motherlode of all buffalo exchanges? Because its huge! Compared to all other buffalo exchanges I've been to. Overall, they've got some hip stuff here, lots of urban outfitters items. They have a couple of vintage dooney and bourke purses when I came by. Pricing wise, it is a bit high for my taste (regular tops can be more than $11-$12, which I think is pricy for a used top). I did go through the clearance racks though and found some cute shirts and jewelry for 50% off. I wish they had even more shoe selections tough, as they do have one section of the store dedicated to shoes. read more

The great thing about this location is the fact that it's near ASU, so a lot of stylish things come through here. The bad part is, everything is slightly more expensive than the one on Missouri and 7th St. I frequent both locations very often and I always get way better bargains at the one in Central Phx. This one does have a better and bigger clothing selection, but the one in Phoenix has a better shoe selection in my opinion. It's good to go to both often really. My favorite thing about this spot? This place is very hit and miss. Selling can be a nightmare. If you're selling be prepared to WAIT for a long time and don't expect them to take much of your stuff. I tried selling an expensive purse, beautiful expensive designer jeans, Dr Martens, Chuck Taylor Cons and they wouldn't take anything; and what they do take they won't give you much. Would that employee wear those items you're selling? If not, then they likely won't take them. Come back later to a different employee, you might get a different result. I know they do have to be kind of picky about what they accept, but it's just ridiculous sometimes. Buying, I have struck a pretty good deal a couple of times. Though they sometimes do needlessly over price a lot of stuff. I haven't been there in a while after a bad experience, but judging by the recent reviews maybe things have changed? read more

Okay, as other people have mentioned, it's not a great place to SELL clothes, but it is awesome if you are in the market for buying some high end used goods. You can find pretty much any high end brand here that is slightly used. Over the years I have seen a bit less high quality items and the prices have gone up a bit but I still love going here because there is always a gem or two to find. My boyfriend and I are in the process of moving so I cleaned out my closet.. My routine is to clean my closet out, sort out it all out, denim with denim...cotton with cotton..etc...I fold it nicely in bags so it looks a little more presentable..instead of throwing my crap in bags as I see most people do... I have never ever in my entire time of going to Buffalo had a bad experience. I always leave averaging $80-$150. Today was my first time at the Tempe location and I wasn't sure how it was going to be, since I had read these awful reviews... I So I'm guessing..it's the bitter people who are upset that they didn't take their ugly clothes. They only denied me 3/4 items and took the rest. Therefore, I had an awesome experience Denise was the girl who helped me, she was awesome..starting off with conversation, interested in my day/weekend... Seriously, the nicest person I've ever met at Buffalo.. So I'm defintely going to be returning to this location. It's also much closer to me. BE style is more alternative & sells vintage costume type clothing (similar to RagoRama). The Buyers sometimes seem to be bias with certain clothing like they won't buy something thats cute & stylish but they'll buy a worn out, over washed Abercombie shirt & price it high as hell. Also, for Earth Day, they had a $1 Sale, which I love that I supported because all proceeds were going to The Animal Humane Society. Nice stuff but make sure next time to bring your own bag because they weren't providing any. They were out there selling their BE Bag for $2. (More than the clothes they were selling LOL). read more

For all the ironic hipsters, bargain hunters, vintage cravers, and trend following junkies and out there, here is your desert oasis. You will find everything from mid level designers ( Kate spade, Marc Jacobs ect...) to department store brands, preppy, hippie, grunge, the list goes on. The staff is mostly hipster, cochella-esq complete with body covering tattoos and piercings. They are super nice and will happily make suggestions to help. The cherry on top is that you can sell your fab closet as well as add to it. The buyers have to be picky with what they will take from you. They are fully stocked but will never miss an opportunity for a funky find. They do have guidelines! So don't be upset when they don't buy your "trendy" sweat stained clothes. read more

When I was in college, I went to Buffalo Exchange all the time. If you search hard enough, you can usually find a cool top or two and their prices (although higher than they used to be) are still fairly reasonable. Basically, Buffalo Exchange is a glorified thrift store where people can drop off their old clothes or try to sell them for cash or store credit. But don't think it's easy to sell your clothes- even if you have only designer duds. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to what they will take and what they won't. And it can be pretty annoying when they do take something and they give you only a couple of bucks for it. I haven't done it in awhile, so things may have changed since then. But if you're looking for one of a kind or funky clothing items, try Buffalo Exchange on for size. read more

I was always an avid Phoenix store fan, but recently find myself liking Tempe's location more. I love the open space and the organized racks. Employees are always friendly and willing to assist with starting fitting rooms or helping me to find something special. I found some great vintage pieces here on my last visit and was able to sell quite a bit of my own closet. I did notice that they are starting to price jewelry much higher than they ever have before (saw some .925 rings for $60-140 in the case -- sometimes those prices are adequate, but this stuff just wasn't worth that price tag). I saw this same pricing in Phoenix, so this is probably a company-wide push. My main request: please have a vintage rack, rather than mixing it all in. I really miss being able to see it all in one place. read more

I've been selling frequently at Buffalo Exchanges from Long Beach to Las Vegas, and now here at Scottsdale. I think they do a phenomenal job here at selecting clothing that will sell and that is trendy. I always get a fair price. Even I know that some of might items that i've worn more than a few times won't sell, so I don't even bother bringing them. Meet them halfway; they need to make a profit too. I hadn't been to this location in a while because they opened up a closer loc near 7th and osborn in phx. I went here with a huge bag of clothes yesterday and they accepted a decent amount of my stuff so I decided to shop around a bit before choosing store credit or cash. I was very underwhelmed at the selection of clothes. Honestly, this place is getting more and more off the beaten path when it comes to selection. Believe me, I am one for a different kind of style. I love bulky necklaces and small statements. Don't get me wrong; I admire people who can pull off a 80's style mini dress covered in sunflowers or cats. The problem is that these styles are literally all they had. Good luck trying to find a cute, plain maxi dress or some classic pumps. I mean i really needed some new summer dresses and came out with nothing because everything was just a little too out there. I think it would benefit Buffalo Exchange to buy some more "basics" in order to have the inventory flow more. The definite pro of all Buffalo Exchanges is the staff. This is your typical Buffalo Exchange. I've been to others in San Francisco and San Diego, and they're all pretty much the same. Yes, they're super picky brand name whores about what they buy from you, but it means that there are some really great items for a much smaller price tag. I've gotten dresses that people always compliment and things that I've bought on impluse because I thought it was a great buy, and wore once. The building this one is located in leaves a lot to be desired, but there are good buys inside. I walked away with a great pair of skinny jeans, a cute top, and a super comfy dress for under $50 =). read more

People seem to only be rating it low because they didn't take any of their clothing. I bring in stuff time to time and they take almost nothing, but guess what? Their selection, even on plus sized clothing, is top notch. People need to stop complaining that they didn't take their smelly stained old jeans from 1995. Don't ever go to this place. I had all name brand shoes and a few dresses and they took nothing! All of my shoes were either brand new or been worn once from. I had Jessica Simpson, Gianni Bini, Guess, Michael Kors, etc. and all they did was pull everything out, set it on the counter, and say- " you don't have anything that would fit for our store." If you're deciding about whether to shop at Plato's Closet or this gem, PICK HERE! Not only is the store massive, the employees are super friendly and sweet. I was immediately greeted with a smile when I came in and was consistently helped throughout my visit. They have a fantastic selection of a variety of clothes. Only downsides are that parking is an absolute nightmare being in the heart of Tempe as well as some of the pricing. Sometimes you can find items that are absolute steals, other times items that are priced very highly for the quality. Being as the clothes are used, I don't really expect to be paying anywhere near retail prices regardless of brand. Other than that I highly recommend this store. It's been a while since I have darkened the doors of Buffalo Exchange in Tempe, but now that I am back in the great hot state of AZ, I headed right over. The store is cleaner and more organized than I ever remember it being, so kudos for that BE. They are a tad overpriced...I mean, if I am going to spend $70 on a pair of jeans, I would rather go to The Rack and get them new, but BE does offer some one of a kind items and lots of fun vintage accessories and styles. And they seem to be better priced on shoes. I love to come in and browse...my latest find was a pair of BRAND NEW Vince Camuto heels for $30. I had been eyeing these at Macy's for a while but hesitant to pay the $120 price tag so it was quite the find for me at BE. read more

I usually go to a Buffalo Exchange back home in Boulder, CO. Awesome shop with awesome people. So I was excited to see that I was so close to one when I moved to Tempe! However, it is the worst BE I have ever been into. I did a spring cleaning and brought in hundreds of dollars worth of clothes. Nice clothes with price tags still on. I was offered $5 in store credit or $3 cash in total. No explanation as to why they didn't want them. So when I asked for my clothes back bc I would rather donate them than sell them for $3 to an overpriced consignment store... the lady at the counter was incredibly rude. I have never had a pleasant experience in this store and I do not recommend shopping here. Everything is way too overpriced for used clothing. I've never sold anything here, so I can't comment on the selling process. Decent selection overall and some great prices on items (and lots of 50% off items sprinkled throughout). The selection does reflect the store's proximity to ASU, so there are lots of items like logo t-shirts and booty shorts (a surprising amount of those, actually). The buyers here also seem to be pretty brand-focused--I saw a few things that looked like they were only bought because they had an American Apparel tag. I usually go to the one on 7th st. and Osborn but probably won't be anymore because my experience at this one was 10x better!! Coming in to sell was awesome. They have a huge sitting area while you wait for them to look through your stuff. They took a very reasonable amount of items and their prices and amount they give you for each one is extremely reasonable as well! All staff were friendly and the place is large so you aren't constantly running into people! Experience was stress free which is saying a lot when t comes to transactions like this! read more

Every once and a while you come across some cool stuff here, but guess what? It's not cheap for a 2nd hand clothing store. I found 2 coats that I really liked, but for $35 and $50 I just had to pass, it's just too much for 2nd hand stuff. I know we're in downtown trendy Tempe with all the hip college kids, but damn how can they afford this stuff? I sat in the chairs while my wife continued to shop and I listened to the staff turn down about 99% of the stuff people brought in. I love to shop here but even though I find items I love, I am also highly disappointed in the it's ran. I bring in perfect condition brand name items, some with tags still on it, all the time and in large quantities. It's not just that I am upset they never take my items, it's what they do take that gets me. Today I brought in a brand new GAP coat, nice calvin klein heels, and many many more name brand items. They took nothing as always, then I go shopping... Walking around I see countless items that are worn, have lint balls, holes, fading and so on, just a lot of really bad items in terms of style and quality. So why don't they ever take my items? Well the employees are allowed to sell as many items as they want to buffalo and of course favor their friends as well. This is the only explanation I can think of; because it's not that they don't like my items but "they are already stocked" with clothes that clearly shouldn't be on the shelves. A manager really needs to step up and stop allowing such poor quality to take up all the space and allow real buying/selling to happen. read more
