Hands down the best burritos in nyc. I've been going to buddies for 15 years and every time their burritos are excellent. The staff are quick, hardworking, and truly care about providing quality service. I would recommend this restaurant mainly for takeout but there is some seating inside and outside. While strolling along Court Street, we decided to grab lunch here since they had some tables outdoors, which made this spot dog-friendly. There's a QR code so you can order online ahead of time or go inside to order too. The order was ready exactly as stated. We both ordered a burrito: The Brooklyn Burrito ($10.85) and The Gourmet Burrito ($10.95). You get your choice of wrap, meat, and additional fillings. I also got the Hisbiscus Aqua Fresca ($3.55) and some Chips on the side ($2.85). Everything was also packaged nicely. I enjoyed my burrito and it was stuffed so much that this was good enough as my only meal for the day. The tomatoes are kind of salsa-like, so this made the burrito a bit messier, but tastier. The chips were thick and crunchy, but I wish it came with salsa that wasn't the small ones you get on the side. Not bad if you're craving some Mexican food that's quite filling in the neighborhood. read more

This place is quickly becoming a neighborhood staple for me. Not every burrito place will do a Cali style burrito, but these guys do and it is very good! They cook the meat in each burrito to order, so be prepared to wait 10 minutes after ordering- but it is worth it to bite into a hot (not lukewarm) burrito. I appreciate that they have free, serve-yourself tap water available, as well as salsas to top your food with. The counter where you pick up your order has buckets labeled mild and spicy. Started ordering lunch from here and have been impressed with the quality of the food and decent prices. I have had both a traditional burrito and a burrito bowl so I believe I have run the burrito spectrum. The standard Burrito I had was the Fajita Burrito which was grilled chicken with the fajita veggies with the usual burrito filling rice and bean. It was filled to the brim and quite sizable and very tasty. I got the selection of homemade sauces/salsas which were all good and ranged in heat index. The Burrito bowl was also chock full of goodness only in bowl form. Just as good but less carbs! The Churros are also very good and not as greasy as they can be in some places plus they came with both a chocolate dipping sauce as well as a frosting that tasted like Biscoff. I had not read all the good reviews as it was a spur of the moment decision to get a quick bite and the place was close by and looked welcoming so in we went! Mediocre food and terrible service!! I very kindly ordered carnitas nachos, no guacamole. He tried to charge me $24 when the nachos are clearly listed as $11. This was more than a misunderstanding, when I asked why the price was so high he angrily told me I also ordered a burrito, I calmly clarified and explained that I did not. Then he tried charging me for a taco! I don't understand this as the words burrito and taco never even came from my mouth at all. I am understanding of and sensitive about language differences, this guy was just rude, no apology for the error and he seemed downright angry. No thanks. If you want AMAZING and AUTHENTIC Mexican, there's a great Casa Amigos truck down the street on Union and Court that is way better and people actually treat you with kindness! read more

My coworker recommended this place for lunch so we decided to take a 15 minute walk to grab some food. I learned the hard way that it is best to order ahead. This place seems pretty popular and had a fair amount of people in line. They have an open kitchen concept and you can see the food being prepared. I ordered the fish tacos, which took some time. I am writing this because I have had Buddys 4 times in the last two weeks and every time the food was GOOD! i am working on writing (especially for local restaurants) some reviews now from a place of consistency and not always first impressions as i have more often than not been burned by those( trying to create more balance ) so i come saying from the nachos, ( plentiful) to the taco salad( fresh) to the shrimp taco, shrimp quesadilla, and the churros!! ( delicious chocolate dipping sauce) All soo good!! the guacomole is fresh and vibrant the food cooked and seasoned well and the service fast! I had found buddys after recieving less than great service from a similar establishment over on smith st that may or may not be next to la rose pizza and the dunkin donuts, and decided to give buddys a try! and I am so glad I did! Okay guys.. here's the deal.. You MUST get the gourmet burrito if you are into steak. I know what you're thinking, steak at restaurants tend to be rubbery, but I PROMISE you, Buddy's finesses their steak - with their tender and oh so well seasoned steak, you'll get the works- this includes guacamole, tomatoes, and onions. For a lil kick, grab their house made picked peppers, you will not regret it. I'd recommend eating there, but if you're planning on eating it later in the day, I low heat pan fry my burrito - eating it while warm is way better imo. Also, their popsicles. omg. There's a mangonada flavor and cucumber lime which is TOO DIE FOR in the summer. Literally will help you beat the heat! Overall, I'd recommend taking it to go or eating outside because the inside of the restaurant is on the dim side. The service workers there are very friendly. I haven't tried the other burritos but i don't think I need to, because the gourmet burrito just hits the spot! I used to work in the area so I frequented Buddy's regularly. Their burritos were always on point and huge. The price matched its value. I haven't been back in years so eating here today was nostalgic. They are still as good as I remember. Definitely try one of their burritos. When I was paying, I noticed they rounded up my order. I love this place. I love this place so much that it almost kills me to not give it 5 stars, so I'll start with my reason for the markdown: they seemingly don't have AC in the summer or heat (as I found out tonight) in the winter. It's incredibly unpleasant to eat there when you're freezing your butt off, and my boyfriend and I live too far away to take the food home. Now, onto the positive: this is some seriously good, seriously cheap Mexican food. Most items on the menu are around $10 or cheaper and the portion sizes are generous. The meat is cooked to order and is consistently great. The food isn't the prettiest thing in the world, but it's filling and delicious. Also, $4 beers? Sign me up. Workers are always really nice. They take cards too which is huge. You order at the counter but there are plenty of seats inside. There's tapatio hot sauce at every table and there are a few salsas to try too. Pickled jalapeños are self-serve. Guacamole is included and the portion size is BIG. All in all, this place is the real deal. I had someone tell me that the best Mexican food should be no more than $15 a plate and this place is the perfect example to corroborate. read more

I would give Buddy's way more than 5 stars if I could. Buddy's is the best Mexican food in Cobble Hill. I love it so much, I drove from the Bronx pregnant for their veggie chill and spinach and cheese quesadilla. My husband love the burritos especially El Grande. Buddy's has large portions, the food is super flavorful, and it's always fresh. I've been more times than I can count and it's never disappointed. The service is accommodating to my dietary restrictions every time and always friendly. There's outdoor seating on Court Street that's a great vibe. Quality: Buddy's Burritos & Taco Bar deserves a lot more attention for their ridiculously good burritos. Everything I tried was good, but the El Grande Burrito With Steak was perfection. We started with Guacamole And Chips, which was solid. The Guac is all avocado, so expect a lot of freshness. The Quesadilla With Beef is good, but if you order it, it needs to be the first thing you eat. Time is not good to the dish. Honestly though, you should not mess around and just dig into the Burrito. I selected the El Grande Burrito With Steak and ordered it with no beans. They have two smaller options one with rice and beans, and the other wetter with salsa, guacamole, and cheese. The El Grande merges them with all the extras, and because it is so hefty it needs a second wrap. The ingredients are fresh, the flavor is good, and each bite is heavenly. Quantity: Everything comes in big portions, and the El Grande Burrito is no joke. Value: $5 for Guacamole And Chips. $8 for the Quesadilla With Beef $9.50 for the El Grande Burrito With Steak. Ambiance: Buddy's Burrito & Taco Bar is located along Court Street in the Cobble Hill area of Brooklyn. Walking by it does not look like much, a simple counter inside and a sign outside showing its age. They have a few table out front, and a few additional inside. The inside area is dim and really dominated by the kitchen. However, the staff is friendly and chatty, bringing some life into an otherwise run-down shop. Great place to sit or take out. Enjoyed the guac and chips a lot and their portions are big enough that you can have two meals out of the one you ordered. They have Mexican coco cola which pairs really well with the Burritos or quesadillas. One of my best friends recommended this place for lunch one Wednesday afternoon, and I must say it did not disappoint! The food was absolutely amazing!!!!! The fish tacos are heavenly and my number one favorite! Followed that with the Cali burrito with chicken.... I mean french fries in a burrito, who knew how fantastic that would be!!! Extremely filling and definitely hit the spot! The chicken quesadilla was on point! And for dessert, I had the churros, which were warm, delicious, and filled with caramel on the inside. This place is a good spot in the area for Mexican food, given that there is so few and not everyone wants to eat Chipotle all the time (honestly, I think this place is better than Chipotle). Loves: + yummy and big burritos + everything is made right in front of ya and it's fun to watch + they accept cards + nice staff While it's in a visible location, Court Street is just bursting with restaurants so there's a chance you might have walked past it without even noticing it. I get the high stars, but I don't at the same time. I came in for lunch, was not busy at all, placed my order nice and easy (just got a burrito with pork). Two people come in after me, and their food was made before mine... (barring it was a solid ten minute wait anyway, which didn't really bother me, as I wasn't in a rush) I get the burrito, and damn, this thing is big (cue Michael Scott). I could tell it was very hot, so I let it sit for a minute before attempting to eat it. I grab some Tapatio hot sauce, napkins, and so on, pick the burrito up, take a bite, and bam, the whole thing falls apart. I don't mean the normal, oops the liquid built up at the bottom part and started leaking, I mean, the burrito just torn and rice/beans/pork just went all over the place. Ok, no big deal, i'll just go up and ask if they can re-wrap it, i don't care if some insides are lost. I go up, they just say no, and I kind of go, you can see I tried to take one bite, it wasn't user error of someone who just has no idea how to eat a burrito.. So I have to do what I HATE, and that's eat my burrito with a fork and knife, since there was absolutely no way of making this work. I have to say, besides the burrito being hot, meh. Okay, I don't get it. I read all the glowing reviews and was so excited for our meal. We ordered delivery. We didn't order anything complicated. It was not good! Flavorless, boring, just really overwhelmingly MEH. I don't know if my hopes were too high or what but this did not do it for me. The salsa was warm and had giant chunks of onion, FYI. Unusual. We aren't particular either, we love chipotle, dos toros, all fast casual Mexican places. This just was NOT good and I won't return. The service was fine, although it took a really long time for delivery in comparison to other places in the neighborhood, well over an hour. My nail salon is in the neighborhood and I tend to go after work on Friday's. I was looking for somewhere to grab take-out before taking the train home. Yelp led me to Buddy's. I had their steak quesadilla, which comes with sour cream, pico, and guac. I like that it came with all of these condiments - usually places charge extra. The quesadilla was a very large portion size and I was really full from finishing it - I almost didn't finish it! Counter staff was very nice and my quesadilla was very quick to come out. Nice, unassuming Mexican comfort refuge in Cobble Hill. As soon as I stepped in for a pre-movie burrito, I recognized it from years ago when I was here on a cold winter night. This time it was raining. Something about harsh weather drives people to Buddy's... If you've only got a half hour for some filling grub, this place is perfect. Order up at the counter and your burrito (I got the Brooklyn one) will be ready in minutes. Grab a Corona or Pacifico for a few bucks more, and guac and chips to set the mood. The burrito was good, definitely above average for New York, and generously portioned. I probably could have split one with my buddy and been fine.
