We were headed out for an early dinner next door, and Deux Cranes was still open. Yes!! It's a very small chocolate boutique store. Everything is made in-house in small batches. They have very unique flavors and offerings. We were warmly greeted by the shop employee. She was very sweet and helpful. We were looking for something with dark chocolate. She showed us a few unique dark chocolate bars paired with unique flavors. One bar had miso-coated almonds in it, and the other had Earl Grey with Seri-Uchi lemon. We decided to get one of each. There were also two different flavors of fruit jellies. The raspberry one looked good. I'll have to go back and get that next time. The young lady helping us mentioned they have different flavors of the jellies every week. I love that. They also had beautiful boxes of chelates that were so beautifully decorated and had different fillings and flavors in them. These chocolates would make a nice and unique gift for any chocolate lover. Even though the inside of the store was small, they had a nice variety of chocolates, cookies, and jellies nicely displayed. I will definitely be back for the raspberry jellies. We tried both varieties that we purchased. We loved both of them. The miso almond dark chocolate bar has a savory and sweet flavor. It was delicious. The Earl Grey with Seri-Uchi lemon dark chocolate bar was slightly sweeter than the other one with a subtle citrus flavor. I would definitely buy these flavors again. They were both excellent.

I'd read on Yelp they have amazing chocolate so I knew I was in for a treat. The shop is small but elegant, with clean, minimalist displays. Their offerings include chocolate bars, bon bons, rocher, caramels, cookies, and more. I asked if they have my favorite, dark chocolate covered almonds, and was handed a large bar beautifully packaged in a dark green box. The box said the almonds were roasted with white miso, making it savory and umami-filled. I said I'd take it. I also purchased a small bag of dark chocolate crispy marshmallow rocher. The chocolate was, of course, delicious. I can't quite explain the taste of the almond bar, but it is the type of chocolate you eat a small piece of at a time in order to savor the flavor. (This is in contrast to my usual method of quickly gobbling it up). The rocher is a little bitter, but scrumptious with crispy puffed rice. Deux Cranes chocolates and confections would make the perfect gift or served as dessert after a special meal. I'm looking forward to patronizing the shop again in the future.

The cookies are a little on the sweet side, but I love the texture. The matcha dulcey cookie was sweeter than the mocha cookie likely because of the dulcey part, but each bite was a nice hit of flavor and crispiness. A pricey little box, but for this quality, it's to be expected. I sampled Vietnamese coffee and raspberry yuzu. I much preferred the tartness of the raspberry yuzu. The Vietnamese coffee was more on the dense and darker side which I wasn't really feeling. I ended up getting a custom 6-piece box: raspberry yuzu (x2), rose water saffron (x2), and sesame praline (x2). The raspberry yuzu was extra yummy with the chocolate this time. The bitterness and tartness went well together. The sesame praline was interesting. The filling had a more crispy and gritty texture as a result from what appears to be sugar crystals. The sesame was nicely incorporated so that it wasn't overpowering. I really liked it. The rose water saffron was interesting. It definitely had floral and earthy notes. This is among their most popular flavors, but it just wasn't for me unfortunately. It slightly crossed the floral soap threshold for my taste buds. No matter, I know I will be back for the raspberry yuzu and sesame praline someday, and I hope to try other unique flavors they have as well.
