I've been wanting to check out this store for some time, but whenever I'm in the area, they are closed. Today I got my chance. We were headed out for an early dinner next door, and Deux Cranes was still open. Yes!! It's a very small chocolate boutique store. Everything is made in-house in small batches. They have very unique flavors and offerings. We were warmly greeted by the shop employee. She was very sweet and helpful. We were looking for something with dark chocolate. She showed us a few unique dark chocolate bars paired with unique flavors. One bar had miso-coated almonds in it, and the other had Earl Grey with Seri-Uchi lemon. We decided to get one of each. There were also two different flavors of fruit jellies. The raspberry one looked good. I'll have to go back and get that next time. The young lady helping us mentioned they have different flavors of the jellies every week. I love that. They also had beautiful boxes of chelates that were so beautifully decorated and had different fillings and flavors in them. These chocolates would make a nice and unique gift for any chocolate lover. Even though the inside of the store was small, they had a nice variety of chocolates, cookies, and jellies nicely displayed. I will definitely be back for the raspberry jellies. We tried both varieties that we purchased. We loved both of them. The miso almond dark chocolate bar has a savory and sweet flavor. It was delicious. The Earl Grey with Seri-Uchi lemon dark chocolate bar was slightly sweeter than the other one with a subtle citrus flavor. I would definitely buy these flavors again. I'd heard of Deux Cranes but always assumed they were in downtown Los Gatos. I was surprised and pleased to discover the chocolate shop next door to the restaurant I was meeting a friend at for lunch in a shopping center off Union. I'd read on Yelp they have amazing chocolate so I knew I was in for a treat. The shop is small but elegant, with clean, minimalist displays. Their offerings include chocolate bars, bon bons, rocher, caramels, cookies, and more. I asked if they have my favorite, dark chocolate covered almonds, and was handed a large bar beautifully packaged in a dark green box. The box said the almonds were roasted with white miso, making it savory and umami-filled. I said I'd take it. I also purchased a small bag of dark chocolate crispy marshmallow rocher. The chocolate was, of course, delicious. I can't quite explain the taste of the almond bar, but it is the type of chocolate you eat a small piece of at a time in order to savor the flavor. (This is in contrast to my usual method of quickly gobbling it up). The rocher is a little bitter, but scrumptious with crispy puffed rice. Had been coming to Deux Cranes for years. It's our go-to chocolatier for special occasions. I loved both their dark chocolates gift boxes and chocolate bars. I received a box of 16 handmade bonbons, with 2 of each of the 8 different wonderful flavors, for Valentine's Day. It's such a beautiful box with different geometric shapes and colors. Even their bag and tissue paper were so pretty. I loved that the box came with an illustrated key so that I could find out which flavors were included. 4 of them were from their Valentine's Day Collection. They're all pretty bold and unique flavor combinations: . Orange Kokuto Bonbon - Bright orange jelly paired with rich Okinawa black sugar ganache for a complex, caramelized depth . Raspberry Lime Bonbon - A vibrant burst of tangy raspberry balanced with zesty lime . Passionfruit Coconut Bonbon - Tropical passionfruit jelly layered with silky coconut cream ganache and coconut shortbread cookie butter . We're lucky enough to have a fine chocolatier here in Los Gatos, which is great. These are very creative, finely crafted chocolates with a wide variety of cool combinations. We just had a Passionfruit Tequila (from their standard collection) and "Orange + Kukuto Black Sugar" (from their Valentine's Day seasonal menu) and both were great, though I loved the Kukuto sugar one the best. We've purchased these before and always enjoyed them. Very considerate and great service to have the little cards that let you know what's in the box. The store is cute and well decorated with a variety of not only these small chocolates, but also bars and other things you can buy. We enjoy supporting local businesses and can't think of a better way to do that than buying uniquely flavored, beautiful dark chocolates. read more

Wow this little gem is pure gold! You can tell by the display, logo and the Lady this place is pure heart and joy, which I completely felt! I was looking for a box of chocolate to gift at and this was so beautiful. Their flavors are original, not overly sweet at all, very simple ingredients and the Lady who was at the shop was so perfect! Like the chocolate fairy from outer space. We got the 16pc box as well as the Passionfruit Bar (passionfruit is sooo flavorful, with the tart fruit flavor hitting you quickly and ending with luxuriously smooth chocolate at the end) and the Milk chocolate with ginger, sesame and buckwheat bar to try and we loved them all. I'm buying 10 more passionfruit bars when I'm in the area again!!!! The shop is really tucked away and may miss if you're not paying attention. Once my best friend and I started nibbling, looked closer at the box and found it was Los Gatos... Small world! More than two years later, I made it a point to stop in on my long run which was going to be no more than 13 to 17 miles. I was greeted by Michiko who was the KINDEST! It was wonderful to hear her passion and journey into becoming what Deux Cranes is today. Michikos cultural background inspired her beautiful chocolate creations with Japanese flavors of sesame, yuzu, matcha and many more. The packaged chocolate is also so pretty to look at and would be a wonderful gift to give. I tried the matcha bonbons which were amazing! Went for a chocolate making event and the lady was just the nicest person and explained everything so patiently about chocolate making process. It has this light, floral, creaminess which was very pleasant. The base flavor is similar to the Sakura Saké Bonbon. Again, beautiful bar and crunch from the outer chocolate shell. The cherry patés were my least favorite, which was too sweet and tart. Yes, it tasted like cherry, which was good, but the overwhelming sweetness killed the cherry flavor overall. HAZELNUT CARAMELS Light, buttery caramel with chopped hazelnut pieces. DARK CHOCOLATE CARAMELS You can taste dark chocolate as soon as you bite into it, then get a slightly savory caramel, like there's miso in it. SALTED CARAMELS Very buttery, soft with the best deep caramel flavor. Did not taste salt as a top note, but out of all the caramels I've had at Deux Cranes, this one was the best! Melted the salted caramels and miso pepper caramels together on a kouign-amann in the toaster oven for a more deep caramelized flavor. This is the cutest and most unassuming shop in the Safeway plaza!! It features the most delicious flavors of Japanese inspired flavors for chocolate that is just totally up my alley. I went overboard and bought pretty much all of the flavors?? The downside is that they are pretty pricey, but the quality is just so good. I have yet to try them all since I'm going to gift most of them, but I'm so excited. The shop itself is adorable!! I found this shop coming home from a trip and craving something chocolatey. While this shop is on the smaller side, there were many choices and it showcased chocolates like gems in a jewelry store. The woman tending the store was so kind and helped us with different flavor profiles. How is it possible that this tiny little storefront chocolate shop between a Jersey Mike's and a Safeway in Los Gatos, CA can produce such beautiful and refined treats of a quality rivaling the fanciest chocolates in New York or Paris? Do my eyes and taste deceive me? Wonka who? Turns out the elegantly-crafted banana pecan chocolate bar that first grabbed my attention was a seasonal variety - but the array of flavors carried yearlong is fantastic regardless. Yesterday we went to try the new cookie bars my wife saw on Instagram which appear worthy of a museum exhibition and taste of heaven. I personally preferred the "Passionfruit + Lychee Jelly Dark Milk Chocolate Sable Crunch" over the "Matcha Vanilla Cream Ganache Kinako Sable Crunch" but both were amazing. Oh, and their more pedestrian cookies are just as ridiculously good. We picked up a chocolate chip cookie and a strawberry shortcake cookie. Both were awesome, of course. I also grabbed a pack of Miso Pepper Caramels. Not spicy at all - just infused with a subtle but wonderful flavor that perfectly complemented the surprisingly soft and delicate caramel. Honestly I'm shocked I didn't know about this place before. This is a beautiful local chocolate shop in the heart of Los Gatos. Everything is made from scratch in house. The owner and chocolatier is incredibly kind and her staff is also extraordinary. They have various types of chocolates for every taste! Everything is incredibly unique as all these handcrafted sweets are inspired by Japanese and French flavors. Because of this you see unique flavors mixed into the chocolates like kinako, goma, matcha and hojicha. Personally the best one I tried was the passion hazelnut bombom, that was to die for. I definitely recommend trying out this beautiful chocolate shop. Everything is to die for, the flavors are unique, the taste is great, and the staff is amazing. A must try small chocolatier shop in the South Bay! They have Japanese inspired flavors with some French influence. The shop itself is small but quaint. The chocolates are AMAZING! They gave us some samples to try and we were immediately impressed and sold! We bought: 4 chocolate bars: banana pecan, hojicha caramel, strawberry dark chocolate(dairy free), and crème brûlée. All great flavors, chocolates are creamy and rich in flavor without being overwhelmingly sweet. Our favorites were the banana pecan and hojicha caramel-- will definitely be back for more of these two and try other flavors! 2 bags of cookies: vegan ginger shortbread & matsuri corn cookies. I was a bit hesitant to try these because of the flavors, but I'm so glad we grabbed them! Both flavors are excellent! vegan ginger shortbread--the ginger taste isn't overpowering and compliments the cookie well, we had to stop ourselves from eating the bag in one go! The matsuri corn is a savory cookie, it's kind of like a savory cornflake in taste! Also very delicious and a nice change of flavor from the cookies we typically eat. We also got a small set of 4 bonbons. We enjoyed it all, even flavors the that we don't normally go for, we appreciated. The only critique we have is that their chocolate shell of their bonbons didn't have that enjoyable snap when cutting or biting into it--this also could've been due to the weather since it's been so hot the past few days. I came here to get some chocolates as a gift, and to get some chocolates as a snack. I'm not a huge dessert person, but the quality and attention to detail that Deux Cranes shows with their chocolates really shines through. First, the store is small but very nicely arranged. I know they are going for a Japanese aesthetic, and it does indeed remind me of small Japanese shops. Well lit, everything nicely arranged, welcoming. It's a really nice little store. The chocolates themselves are very cool looking, veering towards artistic. And the flavors are really cool too. Things like "passionfruit tequila" and "bergamot yuzu kosho" are so unique, I've never seen anything like it. And the shapes and textures are also very unique. The bars of chocolates are also designed artistically, with geometric designs and very tasty flavors. I intended to only eat one, but ended up chowing down on 3. Of course the prices aren't cheap, but that's kind of expected for the quality. You have to pay to play (or eat, in this case). I eat chocolate every day! It's one of my good habits for daily happiness. On a short trip to the Bay, my niece brought me back a bar from Deux Cranes. This shop produces small batch artisanal chocolates. I love unique flavors. The milk chocolate with ginger, sesame, and buckwheat is an interesting combo and goes well together. I could taste bits of candied ginger and the toasted specs of sesame. The only flavor I couldn't taste is the buckwheat which was probably blended in with the chocolate flavor. This chocolatier reminds me of Dandelion from the Bay also which also produces great products. Raspberry chocolate, passionfruit chocolate, creme brulee, matcha yuzu are a few interesting flavors I'll have to try in the future. read more

I was given a box of the Bonbon truffle collection for Valentine's day, and tried two of the chocolates. They were very beautifully crafted on the outside, and one was a raspberry lime heart, and one was an earl gray flavor. They did not taste that great, just so so. I have had a lot of good chocolates from all around the world, but this is not one of them. An hour or so after eating then, I got bad stomach cramps and this went on for many hours. I am allergic to ALL sugar alcohols, such as sorbitol, Xylitol, erythrotol, mannitol, and several more, so I became concerned they contained one or more of these ingredients. However, there is no list of ingredients in or on the box, or anywhere on their website. You cannot get an ingredient list from this company, and it seems like they are required by law to disclose the ingredients. Whatever is contained in these two pieces of chocolates did not agree with me, and made me feel ill for over six hours now. read more

I've always wanted to check out these artisanal chocolates and finally had the chance to do so -- they make a perfect Mother's Day/birthday gift!!! I had just came back from Japan and was so excited to finally have the chance to check out these Japanese-inspired chocolates. We tried the miso-almond dark chocolate and it was very good! The dark chocolate was silky, rich, and salty. I also tried the lavender shortbread cookies which were fragrant and buttery. We got to try the elderflower Bon Bon (a limited time flavor for Mother's Day) and it was so spot on to the elderflower liqueur. The packaging is SO CUTE, and the woman behind the counter was super sweet. She even wrapped our desserts!!! My friend introduced me to Deux Cranes last year, and I fell in love with their chocolates. They are beautifully made AND taste delicious. Many of the items are inspired by Japanese flavors, which makes them quite unique! I've ordered gifts for a number of my girlfriends and they've always raved about them. I prefer dark chocolate, so I liked the strawberry and dark chocolate bar and dark chocolate hazelnut bar. The yuzu gingerbread dark chocolate bar was amazing. I think I ate the entire bar in one sitting. The seasonal pumpkin spice latte caramels were extremely addicting, and the sakura (cherry almond flavored) bonbons made me miss cherry blossom season in Japan! I appreciate how many of the items are vegan (shortbread bites and bonbons). Although I am not vegan, my daughter has an egg allergy so I always have to be careful about what I eat around her.   Support a female-owned business! Delightful upscale chocolate shop. This place is in the shopping center when Chocolate Dream Box used to be, so I was thrilled at having a new chocolate store within walking distance. The chocolate is very dark and well tempered. The flavor profiles are amazing. This is the kind of chocolate where you break off a small piece and savor it with red wine or coffee or just by itself.
