Came here for the first time the other night. There were 4 of us. We waited to be seated inside (our choice, outside was available). The space is very attractive. Menu offerings looked great, although my personal pet peeve, not limited to this restaurant is the enforced shared plates. I want to decide if I want to share, not have to, but that's the way it is. We got ceviche (very good, just the right amount of spice), duck meatballs (fine), sweet potato (way too spicy/hot - I like things somewhat spicy, but that hurt), lentils w/ tortilla (excellent, flavorful), pork belly (too small a portion for the price. For dessert we spilt the two options, tres leches cake and chocolate (both very good). For a drink, I had the one with mezcal and passion fruit - it was good and packed a punch. Drink-wise, the Paloma was fantastic and the margaritas are among the best I've ever had. Never had refried lentils before but they were great... like refried beans but creamier and with better flavor. The guac was solid too. Loved our dinner yesterday. We ordered so many things but the highlights were the Ceviche that was so nice and spicy with the perfect level of heat. The Comote (sweet potato) was definitely the other highlight. Lastly - loved the Carajillo especially because of the cup it came in! Otherwise the Enchiladas were also a big hit on our table. Everything was delicious though and don't sleep on the pickled veggies. The patio was so so nice to sit on- they did a wonderful thing that not enough restaurants do where they had an appropriate amount of heaters to make it warm and cozy and also all the chairs (high tables) were comfortable. Went to Broken Spanish for the first time and had an absolutely wonderful time! Excellent food, ambiance, and service. I've been to the many iterations of restaurants that have been at this location and by far this is the best. Our server Kenneth was friendly and knowledgeable with great recommendations. We ordered the flautas, ceasar salad, sweet potatoes, trout, refried lentils, and homemade tortillas. Everything was excellent but the standout was definitely those sweet potatoes!!! Everything had the perfect amount of heat. Their cocktails were also absolutely wonderful and worth exploring these creative and delicious takes on some classics. I love the creativity here. I've been waiting to try this place since I loved Broken Spanish in downtown LA. This didn't disappoint. Ordered two margaritas,Caesar salad, refried lentils, and lamb neck barbacoa. The delicious ensalada cesR had little gem lettuce,Parmesan,black garlic dressing and smoked chili croutons. The refried lentils which came with corn tortillas was outstanding. Took the restaurant a while to seat us (20 minutes after our reservation), but other than that, our experience was amazing. The ceviche was one of my favorite dishes. The fish fillet was also really good when we used tortillas to make them into tacos. I was looking forward to the tamale, but that dish was just ok. Refried lentils are an interesting take on refried beans, but honestly just tasted like beans. The space is so cute, both inside and out, and the service once we were seated was fast! Delicious Mexican food in Culver City! I cam here with a small group of girls for dinner, we made a reservation in advance. We had to wait approx 10 mins or so until we were seated but there was space for us to hang out by the bar area. They have valet parking out front but I found a spot across the street in the residential neighborhood. I'm obsessed with the ambiance of this place inside. Really nicely decorated, feels comfortable and inviting. Perfect for a date night out or meeting up with friends. They have an outdoor patio with seating as well, with heat lamps - this is where we sat. We ordered a number of dishes and split everything: -Ceviche: This came with wide & salty tortilla chips. Tasty! I wish there was more in the bowl. -Shishito Peppers: These were delicious. It isn't your standard shishito peppers appetizer, these are coated with pepita seeds and a ponzu sauce. -Albondigas: Duck meatballs in a thick chipotle sauce that resembled mole to me. These have a spicy kick to them! -Camote: Japanese sweet potato. These were lovely, covered in a slightly spicy and creamy sauce. Delicious! -Trucha: Trout. Pretty good but I think the appetizers were better and more memorable. -We also ordered rice, refried lentils (they're topped with cheese btw), and an order of tortillas. The tortillas were blue corn and warm, they tasted fresh, but I wasn't entirely sure what to eat it with since they came after we ate the appetizers. It was kind of strange to eat it with the trout, but I ended up making a taco with the sweet potato and that was pretty good. The rice was just standard rice. Service was wonderful, we were surprised by how quickly and promptly the food came out. Our waiter was really friendly and great, though at times we had to wait for him to bring us water and bring us the bill. I recommend the following options: - Guacamole and chips: start with your classic appetizer while enjoying a refreshing cocktail. Those chips were perfect-- crunchy, tasty, and the perfect touch of salty flavor. I loved this! - Tamal en Cazuela: this was such a unique combination of cooking a tamal on a skillet. The tamal is savory and on the spicy side, yet it is exquisite! We shared this dish with my family, but honestly I could eat this all by myself. - Camote: I am not a fan of sweet potato, but this dish really surprised me! I loved it! It includes a mix of salsa matcha butter, adding spice to it, and pork rinds, creating a nice crunchy blend. - Tarta de chocolate: made with Mexican chocolate, this dessert was perfect!! I loved that it's not overwhelmingly sweet, so you can enjoy an entire slice by yourself. - Cebada drink: if you like horchata, then there's a high chance you'll enjoy cebada! I know they're both different drinks but I truly enjoyed a refreshing glass. It's made with toasted cinnamon, piloncillo, and toasted barley. I had the enchiladas as my main dish, but they were just fine, nothing espectacular. I would recommend the dishes I mentioned above instead. Our server was very kind and helpful, explaining every dish. My only complaint-- it was rather odd that she was insistent on us getting dessert because it was my birthday, yet she charged us for it. Usually, for special occasions, many restaurants I've been to offer a complementary birthday dessert. I was not planning to order anything, to be completely honest, since we were planning on having cake at home after the restaurant. However, our server insisted and spoke highly of the tarta de chocolate, so I went for it. The restaurant is spacious and they offer valet parking, too. So good we celebrated two birthday in the span of ~2 months! After mourning the closure of its DTLA location and dreaming of the chicharron for many years, we were beyond delighted for Chef Garcia's return of Broken Spanish Comedor to Culver City! We celebrated my birthday in November and the chicharron was as amazing as we remembered. Every dish and cocktail was complex and divine! We found the decor beautiful and not too dark inside. We came back last weekend for my husband's birthday with his parents who visited from NorCal and enjoyed the Dine LA menu this time with a couple add one (the chicharron (obviously) and the refried lentils (another must)). This time we sat outside and the only issue I had was the grass tickling my arm on the patio. Service was excellent both times and we felt well cared for! This place has been on my place for sometime now and when I found out this resturant was participating in Dine LA, I got reservations right away. The servers were AMAZING! They were so nice, prompt, knowledgeable and went above and beyond. The place is charming. I got early reservations so got prime street parking right out front but they did have valet in the lot for $15. It's a little tricky to find parking around there and some of the street are permit only. So make sure to read the signs. Now the drinks! I got the Rebelde to start. I was going back and forth with the Corazone Salvaje (which i ended uo getting after). Both were delicious. The Rebelde did taste like boozy jicama fresca which was how my waitress described it. It was strong, too! The Carazone Salvaje was on the sweeter size but still great. I love guava and prickly pear so it was perfect. The apps: I got the ceviche and omg let me tell you about the carrot-habanero clamato sauce! It was spicy, citrusy and delicious! The Kanpachi is light and the tostadas were perfectly crispy. I also tried the smoked salmon flautas. Ok, the presentation was fabulous! I wasn't sure what to expect, and the first bite was a bit of a surprise. It didn't taste bad but I have never had smoked salmon rolled up in a flauta before so it took me by surprise. Not sure if I'll order it again, but it was good. Main: I got the Rainbow trout and it was swimming in garlic butter. It was very flakey and delicious. I love garlic so it was perfect for me. It doesn't come with anything so I ordered the half size tortillas, and made it into fish tacos. The tortillas as so good. Highly recommend getting those when you go. It was soft, and chewy and it was probably one of the best tortillas I have ever tasted. Dessert: I got the Tres Leche Bundt cake to go and even the presentation in the to go box was impressive! It was rich, and soft, overall wonder texture along with edible flowers. I will absolutely be back to try the enchiladas because I saw a lot of parties ordered it. My friends and I stopped by here on a whim and were lucky enough to get seats at the bar immediately, so we didn't have to wait. This place is slightly chaotic as its quite narrow (despite being on a pretty big lot). There's a lot of ambient noise, so you have to raise your voice to be heard for sure. At one point, the side door was open which opens directly to the parking lot and someones front car beams were pointed right in our face for a while. As far as ordering, we asked for some recommendations. In my opinion, the servers did an okay job with it but didn't really walk us through the menu, and in retrospect I wish we had ordered some other things that people are talking about in their reviews that we didn't get a chance to do. We got: - guacamole: very good, but overpriced - tortillas: good, but its one of those places that charges for it, which is fine - ceviche: decent - albondigas: loved it! very tasty. but VERY small, its literally 3-4 meatballs - camote: we were intrigued by this, but it ended up being kind of meh - chicharron: solid, nothing super notable - enchiladas: solid, nothing super notable overall, the food was decent, but didn't blow me away. same with the ambience -- some good, some bad. and at these prices, i personally wouldn't go back. Came twice in about a week with my girlfriend we liked it so much. Highlights of the menu: The smoked tuna flauta cannot be slept on. So gooey and cheesy and delicious. - Camote - quite spicy but oh so flavorful and good - Tamal - I'm not a tamale connoisseur and I liked it but wasn't my favorite. I know others who have told me it was their highlight. - Barbacoa - I was worried the lamb would be overpowered by the stew, but it was perfect. Delicious lamb flavor in a light jus. The execution of each dish was almost perfect. The ceviche was slightly salty, which was slightly disappointing because the kanpachi was like butter, and the carrot-habanero sauce was divine, but the salt covered our pallet making it difficult to savor the intricate flavors. The camote was comforting with coal roasted Japanese sweet potato, salsa macha butter, and pork rinds. The crunch or the rinds elevated the silky, smoky creaminess of the potatoes. I was most impressed with the Mole! Expecting to be disappointed because making mole is an art form requiring a balance of flavors. The chicken was succulent and perfectly braised. The mole sauce was rich and deep with flavor. The hazelnuts added a much needed crunch to a creamy sauce, and the grapes a lovely pop of flavor. I'm not sure what the strategy was with that patio design but it's so packed (and could that even be ADA compliant?) and we were crammed in this corner booth where you couldn't even access one side of the table. Scooting in on their cushions was impractical -- they're not attached and bunches up under me so I was uncomfortable most of the evening. Also, I am 5'7" and the seats are tall -- my feet actually dangled! Service, to be blunt, stunk. We'd had plans to drink a lot and eat a lot but by the time we simply got water, we were starving and a bit cranky. But then she took one drink order and scurried off without the rest. I think part of the problem was that you can't even hear anything where we were sitting. The menu is small and it's kind of hard to do shared plates when you only have 10 options and there's no indication of how many comes on the plate. And good lord, y'all gotta warn a customer if your food is gonna melt her face! I do recommend the enchiladas. Those were great and so was the Caesar salad. I didn't think the pork, which is $57, was that great. No plans to return. There's a ton of Mexican food in LA so I'm good. read more

So we love Mexican food and frequent Pacos nearby. But we thought we'd see the " upscale" Mexican cuisine here. As timing would have it, being dry Jan we couldn't enjoy the libation selection ( which is such a part of any Mexican dinner). But we were pleasantly surprised at how good the Zero Margaritas were. I had two. We sat at the bar and the service was great. Nico took good care of us. We had a really disappointing meal at Broken Spanish Comedor. First, we wanted to sit outside, but I use a wheelchair and they only had high top seating outside. (BTW, that is illegal. I told the hostess who shrugged, and I have sent an email to the manager) I found some of the food to be gross. The guacamole and chips was so salty I literally couldn't eat it. And they put this very dry, crumbly cheese on top of the guacamole which I did not like. We also had the refried lentils which I was excited about but tasted a little bit like mortar - gluey and bland and also way too salty. The one good thing that we ate where the chicken enchiladas. At the end of the meal, I was hungry because I ate so little. Also, it's really loud inside so it was challenging to hear the other person I was dining with. I will not go back and I'm surprised that it gets such good reviews. read more

came here for dine la and to put it plainly, it was just not worth it. the portions were small, the wait was very long, and the desserts did not taste good in the slightest. they only have a valet parking lot which costs $15, but there is metered street parking around - just need to find a spot and walk a bit more the apps we chose were probably the stars of the show for me. the ceviche was very spicy but very tasty! the caesar salad had a perfect dressing to lettuce ratio and I loved the extra parm on top! the entrees were also yummy, but incredibly tiny! the trucha was a piece of fish, cooked wonderfully and went well w the sauce, but incredibly small! the enchiladas were 2 rolled tortillas w chicken and covered in a green chili sauce. v yummy, but also basic and again a small portion the tres leches bundt cake did not sit well with me at all! the passionfruit lemon curd does not go well w anything milky and it tasted v sour and unpleasant. the chocolate tart had a good dense texture, but was very bitter and not enjoyable our waitress was nice but she was the only one seeming to be working that whole outside area and it took about 15 mins to even put our order in. the apps came out pretty quickly, but the entrees came out 30 mins after that. overall, the apps & entrees were yummy but the portions were not enough to justify the $55/person price tag. the desserts were absolutely unnecessary as they were not good at all. Get the margarita. It has a salty foam, but it's also refreshing. We order guacamole, lentils, meatballs, chicharrón, and enchiladas. I love that the food is flavorful. Some items are spicy, but in the right amount. I usually don't like chipotle-flavored items, but the meatballs were so good. I wish there were more than two enchiladas in the order. The chicharrón was really good. I'm not sure how I feel about the tortillas because they didn't hold together. The guacamole was standard, but I can eat a whole bowl of lentils. Our waiter was so helpful and attentive, and he bought me a blanket because it was a little cold on the patio. The music wasn't too loud for me, and the energy was nice in the restaurant. The chicharron was just good, not amazing, and was by far the most expensive item on their menu. What I have particular issue with is that almost everything else is an add on. Want rice, lentils, or tortillas with that singular hunk of protein? It's an uncharge. If you want to park in the on-site lot? It's an upcharge. I don't mind paying for components (which we did), but being served an incomplete meal is just not a great first impression and makes this place hard to recommend. read more

I had such a memorable experience here, largely thanks to our server Mia, she didn't just take our order she truly walked us through the dishes, explaining the story and inspiration behind them. It felt almost like traveling overseas for a moment rather than sitting in my own hometown. That level of care and storytelling made the meal feel really special and immersive. The ambiance was beautiful and definitely part of what makes this place worth visiting. It feels like an experience rather than just a meal. The only downside was the portion sizes for the price. The dishes were quite small, which was a little disappointing given the cost. A few of the plates also leaned heavily on presentation rather than flavor they looked stunning, but some of them lacked the depth of taste I was hoping for.. When literally every single dish is LEGIT DELISH, they are doing a ton absolutely right. The cocktails were great, the service was awesome. Even though our server said to get like 19 dishes between 6 of us, ha, maybe he was just excited, we did not get that many, but whatever. Anywho, this place is the real deal. Guacamole, Flautas, Albandigas, Ensalada Caesar, Enchiladas, Chicharron, the list goes on, again, everything was amazing. Don't skip this spot.
