Is there a timeframe on how long you wait to write a review since your visit? I don't remember when we are here, maybe 1 year ago? Anyway, I need a record of places I've been and if I liked it. I remember all we had was good. I have a friend who likes to order what seems to be the entire cocktail and food menu. I'm always annoyed but get over it as soon as the food comes. Given I don't have many photos of the food we ate, I must have enjoyed it so much I forgot to take photos. Either way I'd come again!

    Carrot aguachile. Also a standout.

So, this is a harder review to write. I went in expecting a "wow." We opted for the dineLA menu, and the first course - the aguachile and ceviche - were definitely a "wow." Incredible flavors. Fresh. Great textures. But from there, it was okay - not great. I tried the ricotta tamale which was cold in some parts and way too sweet, and the artichoke sope which was good but not spectacular. The mushroom barbacoa taco I left most of. The mushrooms needed to be crisped, the sauce didn't work, and the mix with the black bean puree was off. I like mushrooms, but they scream for butter. This just tasted kind of icky or almost dirty water-y. The meringue dessert was pretty darn good. The banana flan was off. Way too eggy. A bit bizarre. And while our server was extremely nice, his knowledge of the food and wine was quite limited. Normally at a restaurant of this caliber, each dish is served with a bit of detail about what's in it. That didn't happen here. Zero details about the food were provided. And when we asked what was in the sauce for the mushroom barbacoa taco, he said "barbacoa." He was nice enough to offer and go and ask the chef, however. Very little wine knowledge - told us all grapes originated in France, for instance. When we asked another worker for a fork for dessert, they acted stunned and commented, which was odd. I've heard amazing things about this restaurant. Such a cute space, too! But tonight it didn't really deliver.

Food 5/5: Best Mexican fusion place in LA. Every single dish we ordered was exceptional, including all the cocktails we ordered. I don't wanna say too much because this place proved that less was more. Service 5/5: exceptional service from Ally. She was great and attentive. Ambiance 5/5: dim and sets the mood. Highly recommend!

Damian's been on my list for quite a while, so I finally decided to actually check it out. First thing I noticed is how stunning the restaurant looks. Super high ceilings, modern interior design, lots of natural light. Tables were spaced out very well. Very fitting for a spot in the Arts District. Food was very good. Ordered the guacamole because it was at an all-day happy hour price. Pretty basic guacamole, wouldn't have ordered this at full price. Salmon tostada was great, really enjoyed the chicatana ant mayo that gave this a unique taste. The tamal de ricotta was unlike any tamale I ever had, almost had a sweet taste to it. The star of the show was definitely the duck carnitas. Although it comes out as a big piece of duck, it is easily broken down into shredded duck. Super flavor, some of the best duck I've had anywhere. Made for eight tacos! We saved the guacamole for this and it definitely made it that much better. Definitely the highlight of the meal. Service was fine, no complaints here. Parking is a bit chaotic if you want to do valet parking, as it shares the same valet area with Bestia which across the street. Street parking is available if you look hard enough. Overall, really enjoyed my trip here. A bit pricy, but the duck carnitas definitely made this trip worth it.

Huge CDMX vibes which makes sense because it comes from the team that does Pujol! The food was all very fresh and yummy. Portions are kinda small for the price but thats how most restaurants in LA are. The homemade tortillas are fabulous, especially the blue corn! Our favorite dish was the calamar. The menu rotates seasonally. Service was great. They explained the menu before we ordered, which I always appreciate.

My husband's Chef was friends with this restaurant Chef when they lived in mexico. So we were all very excited to make reservations and try this place during our visit to LA. We ordered a ton of dishes to share, the artichoke appetizer and the Savory duck were my two favorites! I typically don't like Duck but the way this is grilled and prepared and flavored was so amazing! We loved the duck so much we ordered a second one for the table! I don't think you really could go wrong we ordered a number of dishes and each one came with a really unique and complimentary flavor palette. We also ordered a variety of a deserts. The restaurant is dark and Chic yet alive. This is a great spot to go with friends or even for a date night. So glad we got the chance to eat here during our visit to LA!

Came here for dinner tonight and had all my expectations blown away! Damian is located across from Bestia, so you can valet in the same area. The restaurant is such a vibe, with indoor and outdoor seating and a moody modern feel. Service was excellent, we never had to wait long for anything, and all of the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The food was fantastic! We ordered the guacamole, cesar tostada, kanpachi ceviche, prawns, hurache, pastor chicken, and duck carnitas. With the exception of the Cesar tostada (the anchovies were overpowering), everything hit. The pastor chicken, hurache, and prawns were my favorites, but everything was so flavorful and well made (I will be thinking about the chicken and prawns for a while). We ended the night with the chocolate tart which was excellent too (definitely something you should share with others). We also got some drinks, the clarified picante was my personal favorite. This place is my new favorite in the arts district and one of my favorite upscale Mexican spots in LA. It's on the pricier side, but I'd say it was totally worth it. Food was a 4.5, Service and Ambiance were a 5, so I'm happy to give this place a 5. I highly recommend this spot, skip the trendy spots and visit here if you're looking for a great date night spot in the Arts District.

I really wanted to love this place. My husband and I had been eager to try it since it opened; especially since we had such a great experience at Pujol in Mexico City a few years ago. The ambiance was a 10/10. The space is beautiful, and the outdoor area where we were seated was elegant and romantic. Service was just okay. One of our dishes never made it to the table, and when we reminded the server, they didn't seem particularly apologetic, just said it was a mistake and asked if we still wanted it or preferred to cancel. We opted to cancel. As for the food, it was good but didn't quite live up to the excitement or the price point. * The artichoke huarache was fine but nothing memorable. * The grilled calamari was just good. * The duck carnitas were excellent--definitely the standout of the night. * The ceviche was unfortunately a bit fishy and fell short of expectations. Overall, it's a gorgeous spot with potential, but for us, the experience didn't quite match the hype or the cost.

Ate at Damian and had an incredible experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely exceptional and easily some of the best fine-dining Mexican cuisine I've had. We ordered the lamb, duck, guacamole, steak, ceviche, and the carrot aguachile, and every single dish was a 10 out of 10 -- beautifully presented, thoughtfully balanced, and full of bold, intentional flavor. There wasn't a single miss on the table. What really stood out was how refined yet soulful the food felt. Each dish honored traditional Mexican flavors while elevating them in a way that felt modern and sophisticated, not overdone. In comparison, it honestly puts places like Javier's to shame -- Damian operates on a completely different level. The restaurant itself is cute and quaint with an intimate, warm ambiance that makes the experience feel special without being stuffy. It's the kind of space that works just as well for a celebratory dinner as it does for a relaxed night out with friends. The service was truly top-tier -- attentive, knowledgeable, and polished, while still feeling welcoming and genuine. Our waitstaff guided us through the menu effortlessly and made the entire evening feel seamless. Between the standout food, the beautiful setting, and the exceptional service, Damian delivers a dining experience that feels well worth it. I would absolutely return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for elevated Mexican cuisine done right.

Absolutely Amazing. I loved the ambiance, the incredible service and delicious food. Visited for Valentine's Day and although it was busy, service was excellent. The restaurant is very urban and beautiful. I can't wait to go back.

We usually shy away from "fancy" Mexican spots because nothing beats family cooking, but Damian has officially changed our minds and become one of our new favorites! Booking a reservation was super easy and from the moment we walked in, the vibes were amazing - chic yet warm and inviting. It made the perfect setting for our anniversary date night. Every dish we tried was phenomenal - we were absolutely stuffed and happy! The ceviche is something I'll be dreaming about for a long time, and my partner is still raving about the tostada. The carne asada was cooked to absolute perfection. Our server was thoughtful and attentive throughout the night, which made the whole experience even better. He explained every detail which was so helpful for our first visit. If you're looking for an unforgettable meal with incredible flavors and a great atmosphere, Damian is a must. We can't wait to come back.

Dinner of my dreams! Being an Arts District resident, I am surprised I had never had a meal here at Damian but happy that I finally did. Came with a girl friend for a last minute Saturday dinner. We got seated right away at 5:45pm in the patio. The vibe reminded me so much of Mexico City. I've always wanted to try Chef Enrique Olvera's Pujol in CDMX but never had a chance so Damian it is. The whole experience from start to finish did not disappoint! Drinks: - El Ninja with shiso shrub, delicious and bright! - My friend ordered a white wine, so refreshing. - Round 2 we both ordered a chilled red. The lovely sommelier was extremely stoked about our selections and gave us an overview of the wine each time. I'd say that definitely added so much to the drinking experience :) Food: first of all. you need to like seafood to have the best experience that Damian has to offer. The menu is seafood heavy which we loved! - Salmon tostada: the creamy salmon drenched in the fragrant house made hot sauce was perfection! We couldn't get enough of it - Carrot aguachile: don't be fooled by the name, we almost overlooked this dish thinking it was vegetarian but there were shrimps and scallops. Beautiful and bright - Tamal de ricotta: an elevated tamale, tasted like cornbread x tamale? delicious, you just gotta try for yourself - Pollito al pastor: the presentation was the dish was superb, from the carefully plated sliced pineapple to the scallion oil and freshly made tortillas. I wish we had room for dessert and a carijillo to end the meal! Next time... Shoutout to our server Francisco (who should be a voice actor if he isn't already lol). He was attentive, funny, and friendly. Francisco also told us about Ditroit (their back alley tequeria), I cannot wait to try! Hands down, Damian was one of the top meals I had this year! Will be back soon.

    Is there a valet?

Yes they share the valet with Bestia next door.

    Is there outdoor seating available?

    They have a patio

The menu is quite simple, but beware that no prices are listed on the main menu, but they are on the paper menus. They accept Apple Pay/credit cards. I ordered the asada burrito and the pollo caramelo and added the grilled poblano (as recommended on Yelp!). The tortillas were the true stars -- soft, nice chew, with a buttery mouth feel (probably lard). The fillings were just ok. The inside reminded me of a Taco Bell 7 layer burrito -- a lot going on but all the flavors kinda blend together. I (incorrectly) thought the beans were refried, but they are not. Whatever is going on inside, I didn't find much structure. The burrito was the best. The caramelo was a lazily folded burrito. I read that it was like a quesadilla, but I couldn't disagree more. I would skip this next time. I spent $25 and it was a lot of food, but I wasn't impressed, especially given the hype and the fact that LA should really be the pinnacle of Mexican food. Not sure if I'll make a second trip here.

I forgot what version it was since this was for Mother's day, but it was definitely flavorful. The queso fundido was surprising! The Chicken Milanesa was a miss for me. I was told and warned it was huge, but I didn't enjoy the ham they placed on it. It was not enjoyable. The Chilaquiles were definitely better than my milanesa. Let's not forget the French Toast. I'm a french toast snob. Their french toast was DRY. The custard in the middle wasn't as sweet as I thought it'd be but the fruit was enjoyable. But it was overall dry. I believe we only got through 1/3 of it, which included the fruit. I may just go back and give it another chance, however, I might need to consult with my friends and see if they want to hang out for Brunch or for Dinner :)

Oh man. This was SO FREAKING GOOD. I have had good Mexican food, but never in my life have I had…read morebetter vegetarian tacos. Never. And I live in Portland, which has really good vegetarian options. First of all, I could eat like 75% or more of the menu as a pescatarian. I was thrilled and so overwhelmed because I normally don't have that many choices! First of all, the water was infused and was delicious. I browsed the menu and had a really hard time deciding, but ended up on the cauliflower rajas taco, the crispy shrimp taco & the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The waiter recommended the crispy shrimp taco, but I actually enjoyed the vegetarian tacos more. I love cauliflower and poblano so that taco was a great starter. So much flavor and a variety of textures. The tortillas were super flavorful too. The potato taquitos came next and I am actually obsessed. The outside was perfectly crispy, the interior was soft, flavorful & cheesy. The sauce complimented it perfectly. I can not recommend them enough. The crispy shrimp taco was really good, but I also tried a crispy fish taco and would honestly get that over the shrimp. I think there was mango or something in the coleslaw of the fish taco because it had a really nice fresh flavor to it. Last, I had the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The mushroom shreds & the flavor were just perfect. Again, as a pescatarian I have really never had Korean BBQ because it's so heavily meat focused. I truly loved this taco. If I hadn't discovered it on my last night in LA, I might've come back on my short trip. The whole place is just a vibe and the food was beyond excellent.

The building is an original piece of the City's history, boasting a menu that features their famous burritos that vary in size from a regular to a huge party size beast that can feed several. I tried the Hollenbeck and the Okie burritos on two separate occasions via pick up, as aforementioned, the service was quick, convenient and the pick up window is seamless, parking is located next to the structure and I haven't had problems getting there. Hollenbeck was good but I definitely enjoyed the Okie burrito more, I ordered the "original" size once and didn't seem to learn my lesson the second time, these burritos can feed two in Original size. They offer a "Mini" version which would be satisfactory for one person. My favorite thing about these burritos is how "home-made" they are, the salsas and meats are fresh and taste like they came out of an abuelitas kitchen. I still need to try the crunchy tacos and nachos which look great, I recommend trying this classic establishment at least once if you're in the area.

AMAZING. So efficient, very clean, love being able to see them prep food at the bar area…read more Pulpo a la brasas - low key a must, octopus is so tender. Didn't care much for the rice/beans but not bad. Comes with blue corn tortillas, but honestly the octopus and almond sauce (think b*tchin' sauce) were delicious. Great cherry tomato pico de gallo. Scallop aguachile - wowwww the scallops were so fresh, literally bursting is my mouth. They were sweet, tender, and perfectly paired with the tangy lime sauce. Taco de pulpo - ok so this is pretty much an assembled pulpo à la brasas, BUT I will say the full meal was more tender because it was an entire grilled piece of grilled vs one tentacle. If with a group, def recommend getting the entree to split vs individual tacos. Smoked kanoachi tostado - delicioussssss the smoked kanoachi (amberjack) was the perfect glue for the ceviche. Another banger. I was at capacity at this point, but the only change I'd make is swapping the taco de pulpo for the ahi tostado. So really, Holbox did everything right, and was so good it's gaslighting me into how I could have ordered more strategically. I arrived around 3:45pm on a Sunday, and the line wrapped around the corner. Bar seats are FCFS, so use that information wisely...and you may get seated immediately :P

There is a private lot but fills up, and there's also adjacent street parking. I love sitting at the bar and seeing the plate being prepared. Also love the open freezers so you can see the fresh seafood hanging. Another standout was the homemade hot sauces! Each had a distinct flavor from sweet, smokey, and hot so it was really fun to try. The ceviches and the raw cold dishes were my favorite, especially the scallop aguachile! SO GOOD. Would order that 100 times.
