I've been to some truly incredible restaurants over the past few months and Electric Bleu in Mar Vista is absolutely one of them. A few friends and I met up for a "treat yo'self" dinner and it exceeded every expectation. Electric Bleu is a modern French bistro with a cozy, neighborhood feel that somehow manages to be both refined and completely unpretentious. Everything from the service to the food was executed well, very well. Our server, Jessica P., was wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and incredibly gracious, especially when our entrees took quite a while to come out. She more than made up for the less-than-welcoming demeanor of the staff member who brought our water, bread, and a few of our dishes. Between the four of us, we ordered quite a bit including the chilled pea soup topped with bacon, Gruyere, and a caramelized onion wafer (my appetizer), a half dozen fresh oysters with classic condiments, the salad of nectarines with burrata, pistachios, and basil, the grilled quail, the steak au poivre with its rich green peppercorn cognac sauce (my entree), the signature rotisserie chicken, baguette with fleur de sel butter, Electric Fries seasoned with their addictive chicken salt, and six glasses of wine. And everything I personally tried was exceptional. The pea soup was silky and packed with flavor, while the steak au poivre was cooked beautifully and smothered in a peppercorn cognac sauce that was rich but not overwhelming. Pair these with the Electric Fries and you've got a combination that I'll be thinking about for a long, long time. One of my friends ordered the rotisserie chicken and couldn't stop raving about it, saying it was unbelievably moist and one of the best chicken dishes he'd ever had. High praise from a fellow foodie! What surprised me most was how reasonably priced everything was for the quality of the food and overall experience. West LA has no shortage of fantastic restaurants and Electric Bleu has quickly earned a spot near the top of my list. Food presentation was on point, and everything we tried had great flavor. The standout was the hanger steak. For what's typically considered a lesser cut, it was excellent and honestly tasted better than the 12 oz filet mignon I recently had at Musso & Frank (my previous last steak out), while also being less expensive. My only real complaint was how cramped the restaurant felt. It's a very small space, and while I understand they're trying to maximize seating, it was noticeable. The staff was incredibly friendly, but when the tiny waitresses are constantly bumping into tables as they walk by, you know the dining room is a bit too tight. Overall, I had a very good experience and would definitely come back to try more of the menu. I could easily see this becoming a 5-star spot for me. For now, I think the current 4.5-star average is a fair rating. read more

We've driven out to Electric Bleu twice in the last month, and we don't even live nearby. That's pretty rare for us, so I think that says a lot. The first time we went, my husband took a bite of the steak and just started chuckling. He looked at me and said, "This is really good." It had a beautiful crust, was cooked perfectly, and was incredibly flavorful. After trying it for myself I told him, "This is what I'm talking about when I say i want steak au poivre". The roasted chicken deserves just as much attention. It's one of those dishes that's easy to skip because you're thinking about steak, but don't. The skin was perfectly crisp, the meat was incredibly juicy, and it ended up being one of our favorite things we ordered. We've had great service both visits, parking has been easy every time, and the $50 corkage is very fair if you're bringing a nice bottle. It's not often we find ourselves making the drive back to a restaurant this quickly, but Electric Bleu has definitely earned a spot on our short list. Looking forward to coming back again. read more

As soon as you walk into this place, you already know the food will be good from the smell alone. Was greeted by a charming host who can speak fluent authentic French. Seated comfortably in the corner, we had the choice of tasting menu or regular anything you want menu. We chose the later and had no regrets. But after loving every dish sent our way, I do want to come back for the tasting menu. I noticed menu is seasonal (great sign that the chefs stay on top of best ingredients), so good luck ordering what we had today... but nonetheless, here we go: Pea soup. SO GOOD. I slurped up every drop and cleaned the bowl with my bread. Baguette and butter. It's perfect. A must order if you order soup. See sentences above. Nectarine salad. Omgggggg freshness on a plate. Lamb. Perfect cook and it comes with an amazing puree. Roasted chicken. The side potatoes alone is worth the order. The roll cake with strawberries. Stopped into this French hidden gem over in the Mar Vista area and was very pleased with my entire experience. I'm a huge fan of French cuisine, and have already been to all the other LA options, so was glad to find this new one to try. Inside is quite large and all seating is indoor, they don't have any outside seating. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered arrived quickly. They don't have a dedicated parking lot, but free neighborhood street parking is easy to find. I started off with the Pâté en CroÛte which was wonderful. I tend to like creamier pate but this a nice and hearty country version. Next came the Spring Pea Soup which had nice flavors but I just was not a fan of, that is more on me though because I am not a fan of pea flavor, I would have preferred onion soup. For my entree I chose the Steak au Poivre which was fabulous. It was cooked perfectly and had great flavors. For dessert we chose the Strawberry Roll Cake and thought it was delicious. The Roast Chicken and Lamb were cooked well, but neither of the sauces quite hit. Also ordered a Gruyère Ravioli that was overpowered by its tomato sauce. The menu does have a lot of options, as in addition to the main menu you can order any of the pre-fixe options à la carte. We had an amazing dining experience at Electric Bleu, which bills itself as a "California-kissed French Bistro." As soon as you step inside, you're warmly greeted like an old friend, setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience. We were seated at the counter, offering a full, close-up view of the kitchen, and the entire staff was incredibly welcoming as we were being seated, making us feel right at home. The menu was absolutely incredible, full of familiar foods but prepared in thoughtful, creative, and approachable ways. We couldn't resist the tasting menu but also added some à la carte items that caught our attention. Every dish we ate was a wonderful culinary journey full of flavor, carefully executed and explained. A few standouts for me: the Hokkaido scallops, whose nuanced flavors shined through with every bite. The grilled octopus was probably the most tender I have ever had. The signature roasted chicken was absolutely delightful. It was juicy and packed with flavor; served in a beautiful sauce with potatoes so good, they deserve their own billing. Also, I cannot stress this enough: the pacing was perfect! We never felt rushed. Our dishes were presented ONLY when we were ready, and we never had to worry about plates piling up in front of us. Everything about this restaurant was absolutely lovely! The vibes were just right, the service was fantastic and the food was really good. We especially enjoyed the baguette that our waitress recommended (10/10!!) and the corn beignets that came with the soup. The tomato salad was summer on a plate. I probably wouldn't order the mushrooms or ravioli next time, but the salmon was perfectly cooked and very tasty! They accidentally brought us the wrong dessert and so we got to try two-- the roll cake wasn't my favorite but I quite enjoyed the peach one that was brought by mistake. Just got back from a delightful "date night" dinner at Electric Bleu. From the moment the hostess checked us in, we felt like we were welcomed guests. Jessica, our server, was wonderful. She walked us through the menu and after we ordered suggested an absolutely delicious Pinot Noir that paired perfectly with everything. And Benjamin, the general manager, even made a point of stopping by to chat for a few minutes. The whole experience was terrific. And the food... We started with the baguette and butter. Because if you are claiming to be a French bistro, that's kind of the litmus test. It passed, with flying colors. Next up was the nectarine salad and the cepes. They were both new additions and i wish I could provide better descriptions, but they were both outstanding. The salad was a perfect blend of sweet and sour and salty, and the cepes were literally bursting with umami (okay, not literally, but you get my gist). Literally (and yes, this time literally) wiped the bowl clean with the baguette. For mains we had the quail stuffed with sausage, the steak au poivre, and the French fries. Every bite was delicious. Hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to, it would be the steak. Desert was a peach with raspberry sorbet and a toasted meringue cap. I'm not a big dessert guy, but this was worth the extra minutes on the treadmill. All in all, a truly lovely evening and we're so lucky to have such an amazing restaurant in the neighborhood. My husband wanted to check out the new French place in the neighborhood, so we made a last-minute dinner reservation and came here on a Friday night in February. We found street parking close to the restaurant easily. Electric Bleu has both indoor and outdoor seating, though it looked like most of their seating was indoor. It's a tight restaurant, and they were busy on a Friday night, but we got seated immediately. The tables are close together for the most part, and in this sense it felt more like a restaurant in NYC than in LA. Our server came over with waters and menus right away. I've heard that the menu here changes somewhat frequently. My husband ordered the fish, which was a white fish that I believe came with a carrot puree and some other vegetables. It was delicious and a good option for a lighter main. I ordered the steak frites, which came with fries that were garnished with chicken salt, an Australian condiment that is not well known or popular in the US. Both the steak and fries were excellent - for anyone who hasn't tried fries with chicken salt, I recommend coming here to try them ASAP. You'll never go back to regular fries. The entire restaurant was packed on a Friday night! We had a reservation and were promptly seated on the patio. Upon learning my dog's name was Remy, one of the staff members proceeded to have a full on conversation with him in French. From that moment on, I knew I would love this place. We enjoyed the scallop crudo, chicken salt fries, and sea bass. Everything was generously portioned and cooked to perfection. My boyfriend and I came in tonight and got the tasting menu with the wine pairing, and let me tell you this was easily some of the best food I've ever had! Every dish was exceptional but the one that stood out to the both of us was the "gnocchi parisien, escargot, snail butter domaine philip robert & fils, "le ronsoy", marsannay, 2023" it was mouth watering. I went to Electric Blue on a Sunday night and it was pretty darn busy. The restaurant is nice and they serve French/American cuisine. I had the beef cheek (which was tasty ) and my son had the combination with the duck in it. Everything was tasty, but I thought the portion was fairly small on the beef cheek for the price. Our server was nice, but he double charged us for something , it was a mistake. They don't print out the full bill with all the itemization to hand you at the table. They just handed it to you on a computerized tablet. So it's very hard to see any discrepancies. I had read this was a neighborhood French bistro and it truly is. The sweet hostess Mel truly sets the tone for the vibe of the place. How lucky are we to have so many amazing, delicious farmer market-sourcing restaurants in Mar Vista? I'd driven by this place a ton without realizing what a gem it is. We dined here with another couple so we were able to sample a variety of wines, dishes, and desserts. We ended up with 2 of the warm baguettes. The first one was a vehicle for the salted, cultured butter. The second one was for not wasting a drop of the delicious pan sauces from the steak au poivre and the signature roasted chicken. We had two different version of fresh spring peas - one a side dish and the other a pea soup. Both featured the fresh essence of peas at their seasonal height The fries are amazing. It mnight be the paprika-laced "chicken salt" or maybe they're doused in duck fat (I'm just guessing here, but whatever is on them, they were scrumptious. The wine list is sophisticated and leans French as befits a French bistro. The desserts were all delicious (we got all three of them!). The service was gracious and helpful. I never cared for over the top service but their service is impeccable. It's not over the top but feels genuine and welcoming. The food was outstanding, we ordered the potato dauphine and raw tuna escabeche appetizers and they were both perfect, the chive dip goes crazy on the potato dish. I ordered a roast chicken (perfect) and my girlfriend ordered the seafood Bouillabaisse and the depth of flavor was exquisite. Been wanting to try it out and came for dinner last week. Feels like a home-y, locals only kind of brasserie place that focuses on French inspired dishes. Reservations can be tough but possible. The service is adequate. They came by several times to check in on us and the GM comes to every table to check on the guests. Really enjoyed that piece, little things like that feel like they go a long way. Food, there were some good dishes but overall, it didn't feel super memorable. The baguette is good and I mean... we just don't do bread like the French. The cabbage starter was great. The rest of the dishes: the steaks the chicken, the broccolini and the passion fruit and chocolate mousse desserts were good but not really memorable. Nothing wrong with the prep, just not a fan. SERVICE (3.5 stars): The host was not friendly and seemed to be annoyed when we arrived. She refused to supply us with a wait time to sit indoors, as we found it to be too cold out. She stated she needed to check her floor plan, but only supplied us with "it will be a long time" once she returned. Jessica, our server, was wonderful! She was wedded for most of our experience, but that was not really her fault. She was quadruple sat when we got our table, the initial greeting took 11 minutes, and it was an uphill climb for her. She recovered the best she could and was lovely to have tableside. VIBE (1 star): We sat outside, and it was cold. The heaters were nice, but not enough to keep our entire party comfortable. Tables inside were very tight. They definitely did all they could to maximize seating capacity. RESTROOMS (5 stars): Clean, stocked, and smelled fresh VALUE (2 stars): Most portions are quite small, so be prepared to order extras. 'SHOULD'VE STAYED IN THE BAR'. I really loved this place. Great food, great wine, nice ambiance. The bartender is superb and a lovely person. I've been there many times and have met some wonderful guests and servers. My friends and I have been frequenting the bar area. We've never been turned away. Just the other day after an extremely busy time at work, I really wanted a glass of wine and a good meal. We made a table reservation. I have never experienced their table service. I arrived early and was given a hearty greeting from Electric Bleu's ace bartender. I savored my French vino and waited for my pals. That's when I met "Gen Z" host who told me there were (2} tables becoming available. The host pointed to a table by the center window and another table on the far end near the bathroom and kitchen (under a large mirror). The table by the mirror was apparently ready, however I told this employee that we'd prefer the table by the window. At this point, the host gave me the most expressive eye-roll that I have ever seen.. ending with a "lid-flutter" that could not be faked or ignored. If there was an academy award® for a "sighing scowl", this performer would definitely walk home with the statue. I found it over-the-top and I mentioned it to Gen Z in a joking manner. My friends arrived, and a nano-second later, this same host approaches us, but this time Zeroed in and starts talking to my friends directly, completely ignoring me.. staring right through me with an icy disposition. I was completely blown away by the lack of respect and defiance. Once again, this host was pushing my party to the table under the mirror, and I let her know (again) that we did not want it, but she kept at it with my friends, completely ignoring me. Honestly, it was rude and obnoxious. BTW/ I've worked in many restaurants and I know how important it is to be friendly and professional. This person did not get the first answer that they wanted to hear, so they focused on someone else in the party. Completely ice cold. This led to a fight with my friends because I was annoyed, so I ended up leaving. I wrote to Electric Bleu with this complaint. The partner/owner wrote me back with what seemed to be an anthropic® type of response. A milquetoast "PC" response that you might expect. I wrote back to this owner telling them I will not be returning, and I will warn my friends (and community) about the lousy service that I received from their snotty, rude host. This is how they treat a returning patron who has shelled out quite a bit over the past year. It's too bad, because I really liked the place, but I should have stayed in the bar area, and not dealt with the other staff and proprietors who don't seem to know how to handle their employees or guests. Food was amazing. Service was great. Ambience is unpretentious. Highly recommend the lamb with fennel.

Good but not great. Pâté is tasty and authentic but some of their other dishes are forgettable. Servers are on the older and slower side which makes this place feel more traditional than hip/vibey. The 80s music also doesn't help. Would recommend citrin if looking for a French spot. read more
