My friend and I made a reservation online for a weekend evening. The restaurant is basically a rustic tavern. Great ambience, and it doesn't feel like LA at all - kind of European feeling? The burrata and the salad were both good, but my favorite was the tuna tartare. I had the branzino for my entree; it's good if you have a lighter appetite. I preferred the bolognese that had al dente pasta with a hearty sauce. The rigatoni was the vegetarian friendly option and was solid. For dessert, I liked the opera cakes which came with two small pieces. This spot is good for date nights and I suggest opting to sit outside. Street parking available. Came for their DineLA menu which was 55 per person for a little date night. We ordered the Pan-seared scallops, Parmesan fondue, and shaved black truffle, Crudo di Orata Tiradito (aka sea bass ceviche) Tagliolini Rossi Con Ragu' Di Quaglia in Fonduta Di Taleggio (aka the infamous red beet pasta with quail ragu, Tortelli di Ricotta ed Erbette which was ricotta tortellini with a brown butter sage. For dessert the panna cotta with berry sauce and tronchetto which is a chocolate mousse with a hazelnut crunchy bar almost like a Ferrero rocher My favorites of the night were definitely the pan seared scallops with truffle with red beet pasta. The truffle shaved on top gave it a deep truffle flavor which hits right after you take a bite of the scallop coating your mouth. It was so fragrant. I wasn't personally loving the ceviche because there was definitely some chopped cilantro but I really don't like cilantro but the Aji chili dressing was amazing! The ricotta tortellini was also not my favorite since it was so sage heavy but if you love sage you will love the tortellini. The tortellini was also not made fresh since parts of it were hard where it was folded. The best thing was the Parmesan fondue sauce which was amazing!! Just pure Parmesan cheese cooked and reduced down with only a bit of heavy cream. Service was also great with the waiters and staff being super attentive. I didn't even know I had dropped the napkin that was on my lap and they had brought me a new one. I would definitely come back for the appetizers and the pastas. read more

Very disappointing experience. This restaurant is extremely exaggerated and, in my opinion, does not live up to the reputation or hype surrounding it. The portions were too small to the point, we had to go to another restaurant after that. For the prices and the way this place is promoted, I expected much more. The atmosphere and service is phenemonal. There is valet in the front, but lots of street parking with a short walk. I went on a Wednesday night so it wasn't too crowded. This restaurant is essentially a little remodeled house, we sat upstairs. It felt incredibly homey with very eclectic decor. I came here on a recommendation from a friend, we started with bread which came out warm and delicious. Then we had caprese, one of the specials for the day. It was so refreshing and delicious. For the entrees, I had the Tagliolini Rossi Con Ragu' Di Quaglia in Fonduta Di Taleggio. The pasta was delicious, tasted incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked, but I believe it was the sauce that destroyed my stomach. It was noticeably quite oily, but shortly after dinner my stomach was in pain for most of the night. I'm not sure what it was as none of the ingredients have ever had this adverse effect. I did eat the leftovers the next day because the pasta was so good, but again stomach pain shortly after. Overall, the waiter was attentive and funny. We didn't feel rushed and had an incredibly pleasant time dining, but after the disappointment with my entree I am not sure if I would come back. read more

My mom and I just had dinner here for Diana in LA. I've been here many times and the food is always delicious. All I can say is wow! The Bronzino was delicate, flavorful, and the vegetables with it were also delicious 5/5. The beat pasta with quail was also good but a bit cold 3.75/5. The scallop appetizer was delicious 4.75 as was the Crudo 4:25/5. Service was definitely an issue. Our waiter knocked my mom's purse down and didn't apologize. Barrique is a true hidden gem in Venice. A shabby chic Italian restaurant tucked inside a charming little yellow wooden house. I'd heard about this spot years ago from a coworker, so it had been on my list for a while. I finally got to try it for my surprise birthday dinner, and it was such a memorable experience. From the moment you walk up, the vibe feels special. The entrance is lit with a little fire stand, setting a cozy tone. We were given the option of indoor or outdoor seating and chose indoors. They led us past the kitchen and upstairs, where the space had an attic-like feel with wood beams ceilings. It was intimate, softly lit, and perfectly romantic , just know it's a small area, but still comfortable. Drinks: They don't serve cocktails, only wine, which honestly adds to the charm. My partner chose a Paso Robles cab (and another red pairing for the steak), and both were excellent -- smooth, rich, and perfect with the meal. Food: Bread & Olive Oil: 2/5 Offered for a charge, but I'd pass. Unfortunately, it wasn't anything special, just plain bread, not warm, and basic olive oil. Starter - Octopus: 3.5/5 Flavor-wise, the grilled taste was fantastic, but the texture was rubbery and a little tough to chew. It came over arugula with a light aioli-style dressing, which worked well. If it had been more tender, it would've been a standout. Special Pasta (Shrimp & Scallops in Tomato-Butter Sauce): 5/5 Absolutely delicious. The sauce was rich, velvety, and full of flavor. Probably my favorite of the night. Ribeye with Mushroom Sauce & Mashed Potatoes: 4.5/5 The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly -- juicy and packed with flavor. The mushroom sauce was a nice touch. The mashed potatoes, however, were on the salty side, but the veggies balanced it out. Overall, the ribeye carried the plate. Dessert - Trancetto: 4.5/5 Think of it as a refined version of a Kit Kat. Crisp, chocolatey, and even better with the fresh raspberry and blackberry on the side. A great sweet ending. Service was warm and attentive. Between our servers and the bussers, we felt well taken care of the entire evening. Barrique is a wonderful choice for a romantic date night, intimate, cozy atmosphere, great wine, and flavorful dishes (with a few minor misses). We sat upstairs in a dimly lit and open room. Though it was fairly packed with tables, it still felt intimate. We came on a Monday night, and sadly, a lot of the dishes I was excited to try were already sold out. TIP: Go early so you can catch the good stuff! Appetizer: Burrata, prosciutto, and arugula Very simple and very tasty. The quality was clearly high, but it's also something I could probably recreate at home--though I might add some dates for a bit of sweetness. That said, the proportions felt off. As much as I love salty meat, there wasn't quite enough burrata or arugula to balance each bite. I had the duck breast on a bed of onions--phenomenal. Sweet, tangy, and savory all at once. TL;DR - I used to love Barrique. But they served me a partially raw/cold scallop (I'm pregnant) that I had to spit out. They insisted they'd remake the dish, but instead just properly cooked the remaining half scallop and gave it back to me. - 7-8 years ago I left a 5 star review for Barrique (not sure what happened to it). It was and still is some of the best food I'd ever had, I nearly cried. Since then Barrique was our favorite restaurant, even though we no longer live nearby, we come back for special occasions and even had our wedding reception here. Over time our opinion of Barrique has evolved - when they're good, they are FANTASTIC. But when they're having an off night, it's just meh. Unfortunately tonight we ordered the scallop appetizer. I cut off about a third to a half of the scallop to eat and it was cold in the center. I spit it out because I am pregnant and must be careful about undercooked protein. We immediately flagged down the server, who said they would *remake* it. My husband even said, "oh let me eat my scallop and see if it's fine (so you don't have to remake two scallops)," but the server insisted it was fine and the dish would be remade. When he returned, it was the same half-ish scallop, just cooked properly. He said, "they warmed it up a little longer." It wasn't even a whole scallop. Maybe it's the pregnancy hormones, but I feel so disappointed by this experience. Why insist on remaking it when you weren't? We wouldn't have even minded if he came back with one scallop as long as it was a whole (fully cooked) scallop. It feels cheap and tacky. They're still great when they're good. And we'll honestly still probably come back. But I think it'll be a awhile before we do. read more

I chose Barrique for an important celebration (a post engagement dinner) purely based on photos I saw online, and it was even better than I had hoped! The vibes are perfect -- a super intimate space, staff speaking Italian, a candlelit dinner in an old house. And the food... incredible. We started with the pan-seared scallops (my fiancée's favorite) and it did not disappoint. The parmesan fondue was so good and unique, and the truffle was a nice touch without being overpowering. For our main course we shared the duck breast and pappardelle with rabbit ragu, both of which were fantastic. We also got the bread basket (also great) and shared a bottle of champagne. We were stuffed but it was a good amount of food for two people to share. For dessert, we shared the tronchetto, a hazelnut cookie crisp with white and dark chocolate mousse, which was phenomenal. I had called ahead and asked if they could do something to mark the special occasion, and they brought the dessert as a surprise, with a candle. A very nice touch! If you need a *nice* restaurant (it's pricey but worth it!) to celebrate something special, this is absolutely a must-try. My only complaint would be that we waited around 20 minutes for our waiter to return at the end so we could ask for the check. This place is a hidden gem for food enthusiasts or lovers stealing away for a romantic evening. Firstly, world class food with tasty and savory dishes featuring rabbit or wild boar. Then there are the traditional fine dining options like barramundi and filet mignon. The restaurant is very small, very dark, and very intimate. I'm guessing you can't get in without a reservation. Parking would be impossible but they have a valet for $16. The dining area and bathrooms were very clean and the easily viewable kitchen was spotless. The place was packed when we went with no empty tables. Also, there weren't any people waiting for a table which means whoever is running the front of house has some real restaurant experience. This place feels a lot like someone's passion project. You can tell there is a lot of feeling and love poured into it. It lacks the youthful brightness of a corporate restaurant and in this case that's a very good thing. The staff is warm, friendly, and grown up. Sadly the prices are high but I want to stress that it's absolutely a good value if you're looking for high-end, delicious food. Keep in mind the portions are on the "fit & trim" side of the spectrum. My wife and I each had an entré, bread & oil, finished everything and while driving home joked about getting a cheeseburger. What we should have done, indeed what you should do, is to order appetizers and plan on getting dessert. Another thing comes to mind; I no longer drink alcohol but I used to be really into wines and this place has a wonderful selection of wines. And if you're sober like I am, then you'll love their selection of mocktails. All in all this place is a rare find that's too expensive for daily or even weekly eating but one of the best places in all of Los Angeles for a romantic evening with someone very special. We had dinner at Barrique last night and it was one of the best meals I've had in a LONG time. The food was incredible and the wine was so delicious. Our group of 4 started off with the carpaccio - it was the best I've ever had. So light but so flavorful and the truffle on top made it incredible. I would go back just for that!! My husband and I split the short rib and prosciutto vodka pasta specials. They were both SO GOOD. I loved everything about the meal!! We sat outside on the terrace which was very nice. We were seated upstairs just at the top of the stairs and we have a nice view of the restaurant and the people and were well taken care of. The owner also came by to say hello -,Was a nice touch. The restaurant looks like a house--there are seats inside (we didn't get to go inside), on the patio, and in the "backyard" on the ground floor. I was recommended to try to wild boar ragu from my friends, and my friend was recommended to try the quail ragu, so we got both. Both the pasta were rich in flavor, and the wild boar ragu tasted a little like meatballs. I found the quail to be more tender (thinner spaghetti) and sweeter, so I liked my friend's pasta better than mine (which was slightly unfortunate for me). The branzino was seared well with juicy and tender inside. The portions weren't too small either, which was a plus. I'll be back for more of the quail ragu!
