Okay this is our bad because we came here after Dudley's and already had wine, so we did not actually try what they are known for - that being said, do not come here for dessert. The chocolate soufflé was cold on the inside and served with a strawberry and a half, which was not the fresh mixed berry assortment I was expecting. I'm not sure what the watery chocolate drizzle around the plate was, but it was not a necessary addition. Pretty bummed by this dessert, but again, I got a cake at a wine bar so that's on me! My friends said their sparkling water slapped (once the lil bug was removed from their glass) and the vibes sitting outside were so good! I don't know why it's taken me so long to leave a review but this is hands down my favorite local wine spot. First, every time I have come here, the staff is super nice and knowledgeable. I've done wine tastings here as well as just stopping in for drinks with friends and each time, it has been great. The inside and outside has a cozy local feel to it. The wines are delicious and everything I have had has an amazing taste to it. Today was the first time I tried their orange wine and it was so refreshing and tasty. On my previous visits, I've had their pizza and charcuterie boards which was as equally delicious as their wines. Today, I came during brunch and while I didn't get to eat there, I loved how they had a grill outside the restaurant where you can see the food being cooked. It smelled so good! Came on a Friday night after an early dinner and didn't have to wait for a table. Had two wine flights of four one ounce pours each - one with three whites and one orange, One all red. Not a fan of the orange wine. Ended up getting a glass of Tempranillo- best choice of reds. Didn't enjoy the Bordeaux nor the cab. Lovely set up with a cozy patio and great benches with heat lamps. Perfect place to go if you want to feel unwelcome. Place was pretty empty the waitress / hostess ignored us. After repeated questioning she said we could sit in the back. We said fine. Then she ignored us again for a solid 20 mins. After 4 requests she threw a hockey puck at us, cough, here is our menu. Never once asked how we were, never once tried to make us feel welcome. Never once told us anything about the menu. Now please note we are POCs and the others who came in that were of a different disposition racially speaking were treated far better than we were in my opinion. $30 for 2 glasses of sub par wine later and we had to yell to get the check at which point she gave us some snied comment and feigned last ditch pleasantries just before the check came. Super cute place that has a unique vibe and lots of different seating options. We sat at one of the high tables right next to heat lamp which was great! I ended up ordering the Sour Beer they had and my friends all got wine. The service was super fast and for a Wednesday night it seemed to be pretty busy. Great idea...and I really wanted to like this place, but when our server told us that the Rhone wine was a blend of Pinot Noir and Merlot...well, that was all I needed to hear. I like the way that this part of the Venice area has come along. Oscar and crew have done a great job with Venice Beach Wines. The neighborhood is a cross between urban latino families and beatnik hipsters. Yes, very descriptive, I know. VBW clientele is more the latter, however. Don't believe all the people saying this place is small. It's smaller! Cozy is a good term that may seem overly used but, is justified in this case. Might even go as far as calling it snug. Especially in the summer when they have a band. But, its appeal is unparalleled. The seating accomodations force you to be neighborly if not downright familial. You pretty much have to share everything. From the makeshift tables to the lint in your pockets. All in a good way. The menu is very tapas-esque. Small plates of traditional french/italian bistro faire. Savory cheeses, delectable meats, and hearty dips. As well as finger foods and paninis. All done with the utmost care. The wine selection is extensive. Oscar seems to bring these cases in every hour. And he still has time to chat with the locals. I actually prefer the beer selection they offer which is equally, if not more so, impressive. I like the Arrogant Bastard ale. I do also fancy the white sangrias they make. This is one of those reviews that's a personal love/hate for the simple fact I don't want this hidden gem to be found out and overcrowded. This is my favorite wine venue in all of Los Angeles, and this is why: Venice Wines has a very knowledgeable staff that can answer all of the questions you or even I may have about the wines they sell. By the glass or buy the bottle You really can't go wrong. Hungry? Grab a charcuterie and cheese board with a rotating selection of gourmet meats and exotic cheeses. Personally I'm a French red wine guy that loves a stinky cheese, but my pallet is always open to experiencing new things and Venice Wines has a wide variety to choose from. So go on in and ask your server to help you choose what will be right for your taste buds. If you are more of a beer connoisseur, don't worry, they have a great selection of craft beers on draft and by the bottle. I want nothing but more years of success for this business and hope the next time I make it down to Venice that I can sit down and have another savory bottle of wine to enjoy. Hello, I recently visited your wonderful establishment, after not coming for a few months. I've always loved the wine selection and atmosphere. However, when I simply asked "Robin" the manager (or so she told me) what the hanger was as for the body part specifically in the cow she just kept saying "hanger" I told her I am not a butcher and just wanted to know where the exact cut of meat came from. She then got visibly angry. She said I was being rude when I just was curious as to what specific body part the hanger came from. I am unfamiliar with meat cuts and Robin took her mask off (Which is against california code) and asked me to leave and was very rude. Her actions were very unprofessional and also against Los Angeles hospitality regulations. I personally felt attacked and belittled by Robin's actions. I would greatly appreciate if you could speak with her and let her know some people need more explaining of the menu. How she treated me was unacceptable.
