Twice in one day I witnessed two separate staff members go out of their way to help people in ways not required or expected of them. In the afternoon, one of the staff very subtly and respectfully gave a homeless woman who was clearly having a difficult time a pastry and a drink and later that same day, another staff member helped walk man in crutches up the street who wasn't even a customer. WINES: The wines are well made, complex, and tasty. I'm not usually a huge fan of sparkling wines, but their '23 Extra Brut is amazing! Per bottle prices are reasonable for the quality of the wines. Unfortunately, the way the payment situation was handled completely changed my experience and is the reason I would not return. When we first arrived, the host was extremely nice and welcoming. The restaurant had just opened and there weren't many people there yet, and he allowed us to sit at a four-person table so we could have a little more space. I unfortunately didn't get his name, but I definitely want to give him credit because he was very kind and made us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in. Our original waiter was also very attentive and friendly in the beginning. We ordered two margaritas, a pepperoni pizza, and wings. The food was actually really good, and we had no complaints about it. The issue came when it was time to pay. Our bill was somewhere in the $60 range, around $62-$64 from what I remember. When the payment tablet was brought to our table, it was already set to a specific tip amount. We had cash with us and planned on leaving our tip in cash, so we declined the tip on the card and completed the payment. After we signed and paid, the young woman who brought the tablet took it back and stood off to the side doing something on it. We weren't really sure what she was doing. We waited because we assumed she was going to bring back a final receipt, but we never received one. We stayed for a little while afterward because the restaurant is really nice and we were taking pictures and enjoying the atmosphere. Then we noticed that our card had been charged $74 and some change, which was more than what we expected based on our bill. We asked another employee if we could speak with someone because we were confused about the charge. While we were waiting, we could see the young woman who had brought the payment tablet talking with our original waiter. Something about the situation just didn't feel right. Our original waiter eventually came back with the payment tablet. Instead of showing us a final receipt explaining the charge, the tablet appeared to be back at the payment screen, with a tip option again. We showed him that our card showed a charge for $74 and some change, while he said that on their end it showed that we had only paid somewhere in the $60 range. At that point, his attitude was noticeably different from when we first arrived. He became more defensive and started speaking louder, and we honestly didn't want to go back and forth or cause a scene. We asked if there was some type of additional fee that could explain the difference, and we were told there wasn't. So we left it alone. About an hour and a half after leaving, we noticed that the $74-and-something charge had been refunded. That made the entire situation even more confusing. Based on everything that happened, we were left with the impression that a tip may have been added or changed after we had already completed the payment, although I cannot say for certain exactly what happened behind the scenes. My biggest issue is transparency. If a customer declines a tip on the card because they are planning to leave cash, the payment should be left as authorized. If something needs to be changed, it should be clearly explained and a final receipt should be provided. I would strongly recommend checking your card statement and asking for a final receipt before leaving. I later noticed similar concerns mentioned in other reviews, and I honestly wish I had read those reviews before coming. As for the employees: the host was wonderful, and the food was good. The young woman with the glasses, black hair, and beauty mark seemed irritated throughout the interaction and could have been much more professional and pleasant when handling the payment. I understand everyone can have a bad day, but customer service still matters. And to our original waiter: you were wonderful when we first arrived and were very attentive. Unfortunately, when you came back to the table later, your attitude was completely different, and the way the payment situation was handled left a very bad impression. I really wanted to like this restaurant because it is beautiful, the atmosphere is nice, and the food was enjoyable. But when it comes to someone's money, there needs to be complete transparency and professionalism. Unfortunately, this was a one-time visit for us. I won't be returning, but I do hope the restaurant takes situations like this seriously because the experience could have ended on a completely different note if the payment had simply been handled clearly and honestly.
