Brick and Spoon is a place the Mobile Brunch scene has been waiting on, this is evident by the fact that every weekend a yelper is in there enjoying a meal, having a Bloody Mary, snapping pictures and usually adding some kind of killer praise for Brick and Spoon! The restaurant has a modern flair with contemporary looking tables, chairs, and colors. They have a room at the front of the restaurant with open a garage door front that opens to allow a bit of outside style dining experience! The restaurant also does something interesting, it seems to advertise its own cuisine on the walls are pictures of biscuits, grilled cheese, etc that make you want even more food than you planned on! The full bar has two televisions which seem to show football or other sports most of the time and the bartenders are fantastic. For starters we had beignets and the biscuits for two! The beignets are cooked to perfection and definitely the best I have had outside of New Orleans! The biscuits are made from scratch and are hot and flaky, the honey butter is something you wont want to miss! For entrees we had the adult grilled cheese with parm truffle fries and I had the bananas foster french toast with breakfast sausage and the grits! The grilled cheese is always super well cooked without being dripped in butter, and the fries are something you will not want to miss. The french toast is absolutely the best french toast I have ever had! Light and crispy with amazing flavor but not overwhelmingly sweet or doughy. The breakfast sausage is phenomenal, smoked to perfection and super enjoyable, moreover the grits are the highlight of the meal! All in All, I really like this place. The wait can get out of hand on the weekends average wait times can be 45 min or so and be careful with those awesome bloody marys because as good as they can be, they can get a tad spicy! This is my third time at Brick and Spoon and I must say they never disappoint. The food is always flavorful and cooked with love. I had the stuffed French toast with blackberry compote and it was awesome. It wasn't too sweet but just the right balance of savory to make it a great dish. The creole seafood omelette was the best item on the menu, packed with the taste of fresh gulf coast seafood. Our hostess, Sidney, our waitress, Gaynell, and the manager, Greg, were simply on point and made me feel at home. I ate with a party of 20, but was taken care of like a party of 4. The food here is just okay and there are better brunch spots around town. I had eggs Benedict today and the poached eggs had obviously been sitting around for some time. They were cold and the yolks were not runny at all. When you slice into eggs Benedict, you expect a nice runny yolk and that's not what I got today. We tried Brick and Spoon this past weekend. I am glad we did! It was very busy, but there was almost no wait. The staff was working fast to get you seated. I had a cheeseburger, had bacon and avocado. Sorry, but I don't remember the name of the burger. It also had pepper jack cheese. This may have been the best burger I've ever eaten in a restaurant. My wife has the shrimp and avocado sandwich, and it was also delicious. I highly recommend Brick and Spoon. They have a large menu, so everyone should be able to find something they love. read more

Great Food, but service needs work. Anxious to try Brick and Spoon after passing it several times in Orange Beach, my girlfriends and I went for a casual Saturday brunch. We arrived at 12:45 and only had a 20 min wait. The hostess was very pleasant and welcoming. She quickly added us to the list, then let us know we could order a drink at the bar. We stood at the edge of the bar for about 20 mins, but were never acknowledged by any bar server. Finally 3 stools opened up and we took a seat at the center of the bar. It was then that the same servers who saw us standing at the end finally told us they would be with us in a moment. The servers were definitely busy making drinks, but there was time to speak to give us an update on taking our order. Once seated we ordered four house Bloody Marys. The make their own BM Mix and it was great! I also liked the Spice rum on the glass. Close your bar tab before taking a table seat. Once seated, our server introduced herself. She was nice, but did not seem happy to be there. During our visit we had to request cutlery, napkins, more drinks and a time frame on our orders. I understand everyone has off days, so the lack of service will not stop me from returning to B&S. The food was definitely worth the 20 min wait for it. Between all of us we ordered the Crabcake Benny (B+), Chicken Florentine, Banana Pajamas (I recommend), Pancakes (A-) and Shrimp and Tasso MAC & Cheese (A). Just got here but the ambience and coffee is amazing already. Brick & Spoon is an amazing restaurant with great food that seems as if your mom is in the kitchen cooking! The ambience is amazing, but if you wanna get in PLEASE BE EARLY cause there is ALWAYS A WAIT unless your early. I got there early so we walked right in. Took a little while longer than I like to get service started but once she actually got there she was ok. Since it was my first time there I would have appreciated if the server would have recommended an entree or a drink. I saw they had special bloody Mary's and all day Mimosas but since the server said nothing I didn't order. That's just me, if your own staff won't recommend I'm definitely not gonna try it. But other than that the food was TO DIE FOR!!!! And if you go you must try the roasted corn grits and the biscuits! I enjoyed every bit of it and it was so much food we had to take it home. My family finally got the opportunity to visit the restaurant this morning for the first time and it did not disappoint! We went at around 9am and there was no wait, we were seated right away. Our server was very attentive and made sure we had everything that we needed. She checked on us several times during our visit! I wish I could remember her name, but she was tall with blonde curly hair that was pulled back into a ponytail. I ordered the Bananas Foster French toast and it was AMAZING It was three half slices of THICCCK toast and the foster sauce was so decadent and dreamy! My husband ordered the Breakfast Tacos and he said that it was the best breakfast that he'd had in a long time! First impressions are everything! JUST left and had to write a review. So I came in a party of 10 around noon. We were told there would be a wait of 45 mins. We actually waited maybe 30 mins, I Dont know because I was busy enjoy a tasty mixed berry mimosa at the bar. It was soooo good! Let me just say... The hostess did an amazing job accommodating us. We ended having allll these other people show up to join us, annoying yes! Even though the hostesses were trying to see what they could do to help us out, we all worked it out and they had a good attitude about it. I went around the table and asked every person how they enjoyed their food and EACH person said it was wonderful!! Yep, you should try them. The menu had a good variety but not too large. We ordered simple items, two pancakes, 2 strips of bacon, scrambled eggs. I ordered the fish and grits. The potions were huge! My friend enjoyed his pancakes, I did not enjoy my shrimp and grits. We didn't mind the wait (they were short staffed). My husband went to the bar to get two mimosas while we waiting. One of them was incorrect. When giving his change back, they did not include the change and gave no explanation. The food was ok but pricey. My husband decided to test getting his change with the waitress and the same thing happened. He spoke with the manager and explained how if you don't have change or there is a reason the business doesn't handle change, an explanation should be given. I neglected to inform you that I'm in Cardiac Stent town, Mobile, AL. The food is delicious but it's subjected to a ton of butter, bacon, cheese and everything is fried. This eatery can be feasible to vegetarians and probably the best you'll find in this part of town. People need to know if it's fried or processed DON'T eat it. read more

The best part of my meal today was the cold, lumpy grits that came with my dish. It started off rocky with the way the hostess seating us wasn't accommodating. Husband has a post-surgery shoe and his grandmother was joining us for the meal, so the high table she brought us to wasn't comfortable. We asked to sit at a low table towards the front. She snapped that the front was closed. We've never been here before so that wasn't clear. There was a low table open NEAR the front-- not inside the sun room area that was closed off-- that we asked for. She again snapped the area was closed, yet other customers were seated in the same area... Whatever, chick. I ordered the "Killer Creole Omelet," and it was disappointing. This dish is the omelet with shrimp, cheese, bell peppers, Creole seasoning, and onions, but I had them hold the Hollandaise because I ain't about that life. Anyway, I had the equivalent of 3 medium sized shrimp in my omelet because I counted 6 HALVES of shrimp. (They say they use Gulf Shrimp, but these shrimp were the most pitiful "Gulf shrimp" I've seen in a long time.) The "Creole seasoning" tasted like that which is used in Mexican cuisine as my omelet was riddled with the taste of cumin... I picked through the omelet to eat some of the cheese, some of the egg, and all the tiny pieces of shrimp. My grits were cold (barely room temperature), lumpy as hell, but had a decent flavor. What was interesting was that the grits had kernels of corn in them. Nice texture contrast when you weren't chewing through the lumps. Totally not worth the $15 price tag for a mediocre omelet and a small bowl of cold grits, though. If they gave half a hoot to improve the consistency of their grits (we're in the South, for goodness' sake), it might have earned them a third star from me. But poor customer service, subpar food, and high prices that don't reflect the quality of food you're getting is enough to keep us away. read more

Looking for a great Bloody Mary....this is the place. You want great service...they offer it! You want a twist on brunch, they have many dishes to choose from. My coworker don't like grits...but he sure ordered the shrimp grit!!! My pancakes came out 10 minutes after my meal because they are so popular...that's ok not mad...I'll wait! To sum it up, we have voted hands down that this is our favorite spot in Mobile to have brunch. Just order via DoorDash. Cobb salad had hair in it and the spring mix has old slimy lettuce in. Called the restaurant and was told that their cook is bald so she has no idea how the hair got in the salad and that the lettuce is supposed to be this color. Update in response to owner's response: sorry but this lettuce was mixed in, mainly towards the bottom of the bowl, not right underneath the chicken breast. We would have gladly accepted a remake or refund, however the excuses given instead of owning up to the issues over the phone and like now in your response is unacceptable. I was told over the phone that the lettuce is supposed to be this color and now you're saying it's because of the chicken? No thanks! read more

Disappointing. We probably would have enjoyed it more had we opted for bloody marys and mimosas. My friend and I were so excited to try everything when we were looking at the menu, but would soon realize the excitement stops there. The food is meh and most is store bought, frozen stuff. Altogether, we ordered beignets, ham and cheese omelette, farmers market benedict, side of sausage, side of bacon, and parmesan truffle fries. The omelette and benedict also came with fire roasted corn grits and hashbrowns. To start, the beignets were good fried dough covered in sugar, but dense. Not airy and light like a real beignets. Tasted like they just took some biscuit dough, cut them in chunks, and tossed them in the fryer. But I'm not complaining about fried dough. The "marmalade" accompaniment was just a watery puree of very very tart berries. I have no idea why they are calling it marmalade because that isn't marmalade. When the rest of the food came out, we were left very underwhelmed aesthetically as well as with taste. The omelette, while big, looked very sad. Hash brown side was just frozen shredded potatoes. My farmers market benedict with "seasonal" veggies came with a frozen medley of carrots, squash, and green beans. Nothing against frozen veggies but if you boast seasonal veggies I expect fresh and especially for $15-20 entrees don't serve me something a broke college student whipped up with what was left in the freezer. The poached eggs were overcooked and rubbery and there was barely any hollandaise on my plate which actually didn't taste remotely like hollandaise. It almost tasted like a cheese sauce. The fire roasted corn grits are nothing great either. Just basic grits with some corn kernels thrown in. The side of bacon was blah too. The first piece I picked up was so chewy and hard. The second piece had crunch but was also hard to chew, and the third was a bit of both. It was getting to the end of service by the time our food came out so maybe they just tossed me the leftover pieces of bacon. The sausage was just a frozen sausage patty like what you would get in a jimmy dean breakfast sandwich. And lastly, the parmesan truffle fries came out so soggy and limp. All of the fries were stuck in a clump and it was hit of miss if you even got a slight hint of truffle oil on a fry or no hint at all. I feel like this place is like someone watched too much top chef and decided to open a restaurant and throw fancy words together hoping no one would realize they were just making stuff up. Call the food what it is and stop using culinary words that do not describe what you are serving. Needless to say, this was not worth $50+ brunch for 2. And that's without any alcohol! read more

Hit or miss. Service is rarely good, and do not ever think that sausage gravy is real gravy. THe mimosas are the only plus.
