Food and service were very good. I wasn't that hungry so I got the crab claws and Lyonnaise salad. Some of the best fried claws Ive had. Better than the Lighthouse IMO. Good portion and had a tempura-like breading that was light and crispy . Wife had Jambalaya and it was tasty and hearty. We have leftovers for tonight... Cat our server was personable and attentive. Hate that we have to say no. We drive through this location twice a year and always sit at the bar. This particular evening at 6 they RESERVED even the bar. They would not seat us even for a drink. The only restaurants ive seen turn away business don't last long. The location was unique but if you turn the wrong way it's questionable. SHORT VERSION: Liz our waitress was awesome, new silver for each course, have not seen that in Mobile until tonight, love it!, every course was full of flavor, and very creative, and prepared perfectly. Chef Jim Smith came out to the tables to personally say thank you. LONG VERSION: Located in a home neighborhood is a vibrant gem of a restaurant with a small bar. A few seperate dining areas throughout. We were seated just ahead of reservation time. Liz was around when we needed her and not hovering. She was very helpful all night. You can order a 5 course meal with choices or ala carte. We ordered beer and wine and biscuit service with 4 biscuits in a cast iron pan, with whipped butter, dark cane syrup and smoked sea salt. Ok, amazing flavors and perfect biscuits, wow. Next oysters and the chilton county Peach and heirloom tomato salad. Next she ordered the Sicilian shrimp and grits, I had the Alabama blue crabcakes with rice grits, sweet soy butter sauce and brown beech mushroom salad. The entire meal was awesome every dish was prepared, executed, and delivered excellence. Now, you know we had to have dessert, we got the pineapple upside down cake, cooked to order so, it took some time. Just wow. Chef Jim Smith and his team, knocked it out of the park for us. This is a hidden gem in Mobile Al. The venue is located in the historic antebellum home district. Beautiful drive to a sleepy little neighborhood. The food is very good with the whole fried mangrove snapper seasoned with a little heat and peanuts that definitely has a Caribbean undertone with no hint of fishy smell and a clean white fish taste. The crab cakes are also very nice with a clean crab taste and loaded with lump crabmeat. The jambalaya was very tasty and also loaded with premium seafood and andouilles sausage. Overall a nice surprise that delivered very good food in a quaint area with an elegant atmosphere. Careful, the bartender will hook you up with powerful cocktails. This is an absolutely fantastic dining experience. The service was over the top and the atmosphere was quite comfortable. The real star of the show is the food though. We had crab claws as an appetizer and they were fantastic. They came out hot and the batter was quite tasty. The braised rabbit was very tasty and nice and tender. The Conecuh butter / sauce was infused with the flavor of the famed Alabama sausage. The crab cake was light but packed with pillowy crab meat. [Edit] Questionable customer service. Website indicates open until 10:00, arrived at 8:55 and was refused a table. No manager available, however an employee told me that they work on a reservation system which 'normal' people use. I pointed out what the website indicated, and I was told 'there's the door'. After speaking with the owner by phone the next day, I was informed that they do indeed close at 10:00, however, they stop seating at 8:30ish. The owner did apologize profusely for how the situation was handled by the employee. I am sure that the food is delicious, and that the offer a wonderful dining experience, however, I don't know if I will give this restaurant a try next time I am in town, but if I do, I will be sure to make a reservation. read more

I came in here cautiously optimistic as I normally do when I go into fancier, high-end restaurants. I came out a firm believer and a satisfied customer. "What did it for me?" you will ask. The answer: Conecuh Braised Rabbit & Grits with Eggplant, King Trumpet, & Spiced Chow Chow. There is a lot to say about this dish, so I won't be able to capture it all, but I will do my best. First off, the rabbit. Don't think I've ever had it before. Here, it was braised. It had a really smooth texture that didn't have a gamey taste. Both the skin and the meat kind of reminded me of duck, but the meat had nowhere near the fat content of duck. Secondly, the grits were gritty yet very rich, creamy (I can't stand "grits" that aren't gritty), and filling. Third, I really liked this dish because it had southern cooking roots, but it also had a lot of Asian components too. Thus, this dish is unofficially in the Asian fusion realm, and it is basically a microcosm of myself - an American Born Chinese (ABC). The creamy grits and Conecuh sausage are definitely staples of the south, but the spiced chow chow (cabbage), eggplant, king trumpet (mushroom), and green onion garnish really reminded me a lot of fantastic Chinese dishes I grew up on. This dish was just a great, organized amalgam of flavors and textures. From the smoothness, savoriness, and slight saltiness of the rabbit meat to the sweet, creamy grittiness of the grits. To the fibrous bitterness of the eggplant. To the fresh earthiness of the king trumpet. Then to the slight spiciness AND sourness of the slightly pickled, spiced chow chow. Last but certainly not least - this was a hearty dish. They weren't trying to scam me on portions here. A great portion of protein, fiber, and carbohydrates - all tasty. All in all, this was one of the most creative and well-executed meals that I've had!!! read more

We had a really nice brunch here the other day. The atmosphere is great and one thing you really take away from this place is that they really want you to enjoy your time there. The entire staff was so kind and engaging, including the chef who came out to check on us. What a nice visit. The fried green tomatoes were just terrific. Some of the best I've had in a long time. The unique topping was a nice treat as well, it was something different and fun. The jambalaya was very good but the big piece of fish was a bit overcooked. The biscuits breakfast was terrific but the biscuits were a bit overly crispy. Overall a few minor quibbles but a very welcoming and tasty experience. I like the tucked away little gem. The biscuit service is very good. The oyster bisque is so delicious. A nice complexity of flavors with plump little oysters. The crab cake was a let down. I think the delicate lump crab was overpowered by strong, salty soy sauce. It needs more balance with the flavors. I would go back and try the soft shell. The food was delicious, cooked with perfection and not overly seasoned or overcooked. I forgot to take pictures of my food before I started eating as I was starving. LOL. I had the grilled oysters to start along with a delicious salad; entree was grilled fish, selected field peas and mashed sweet potatoes (white sweet potatoes that I love) as my sides. One of my best friends was visiting from out of town that love oysters and I knew this was the place to go. The atmosphere here is welcoming, friendly starting with the Hostess. I had to place the seafood on the salad plate and can respect that; entreè integrity yada yada. Also, charred shishito peppers and eggplant w chili oil, benne seeds, and lime.
