The Listening Room is truly for LISTENING. For a small donation of $20 you are allowed to listen to artists perform in a intimate venue. Prior to the concert, the owner Jim Pennington, informs you of the rules. To paraphrase Jim, "If you want to talk, drink and be rude, go down the street to a bar." I ADORE this concept of "no talking" while someone is performing. How often have you been to a venue where you couldn't hear the performer due to all the background noise? NOT happening here! Jim is the consummate host, selling assorted beverages and CD's of the performer with proceeds going to the artist. I highly recommend this venue to anyone in the Mobile or surrounding area. I do not live locally, only visiting once a year, but TLR has become a "must do" for our trips to Alabama.

I was told that the Listening Room is special in this way, because people go there to listen- not to talk or stare at their phones. The set was almost 2 hours, but it felt much shorter due to the small and intimate space the music was being played in.
