Did the "killer creole omelet" on my way home form a trip to the area it was 8:30AM Friday, restaurant was less than half full, but there was a warning at the front that because of staffing shortages you might have a longer wait than normal. After 30 minutes my server stops by to say the omelet went to the wrong table, they were going to fire it and it would be right out. 15 minutes later, I find the server and let him know that if the food isn't ready now - cancel it - he brought the food right out, but it wasn't what I ordered. I had heard so many great things about this restaurant But I'm not so sure of their opinions. Horrible food I have never had a charbroiled omelette until my experience here. After ordering waited almost 45 minutes for food after receiving food I asked for my ticket I could not eat anything. After looking over receipt there is a charge for a cocktail that I never received ordered but never received after the first initial visit to table. This new Brunch spot in Mobile is a must try. After church one Sunday my family and I decided to see what the hype was all about. At 11:45 a.m. (my church gets out early ) Brick & Spoon was already jammed pack. The hostess said there would be about a 45 minute wait but we were seated in about 10 minutes. Brick & Spoon is so bright and beautiful. They have a bar and regular seating tables. We sat at a table. They have a make your own blood Mary menu. There are some flavored mimosas such a as mango and blackberry. The menu items are brunch/lunch items and I wish I could've tried them all. I ordered the Bananas Foster French toast with eggs and bacon. It was the best Bananas Foster I've had in a really long time. The sauce was so yummy and rich. My family ordered pancakes and regular French toast (the usual brunch items). Which all looked tasty. The only gripe was a few pieces of our bacon was under cooked (a big no-no). My boyfriend and I stopped by this place at 9 AM on a Sunday, hoping we'd get seated pretty quickly. Lucky us, we did! We were seated almost immediately. Service was very quick. We both shared the breakfast fries, which were very sizable. Truthfully, it alone made me full. It was so so good. French fries topped with bacon, hollandaise sauce, and a fried egg...how could you go wrong! Having eyes bigger than my stomach, I also ordered the chicken florentine Benedict for myself. My sister came to town with her grandkids, and we decided to have brunch together. I had heard that Brick and Spoon was a good place for brunch, and I am happy to say that we weren't disappointed at all. Our party consisted of 10 persons, five adults and five kids ranging in age from 22 months to 17 years old. Upon arrival, we noticed several people waiting, so I asked how long it would take for us to be seated. The hostess said it would be 25 to 30 minutes, and although it did take slightly longer than that, at the end we didn't mind the wait because our experience turned out so well. Our server was Russ, who did a superb job. Initially, I had thought that we would, in order to go easy on the server, get one check, and divey up the payment between all of us. But, in the end, I was overruled, and Russ had to split the bill into four checks, which he did without complaint, or error. I was very impressed. I was also impressed that he got everyone's order taken, and served without error. The food was very good and the menu had some very enticing selections. I had the Killer Creole Omelet, my wife the Breakfast Tacos, and my sister had the Shrimp and Grits. My daughter had the Bananas Foster French toast, while my other daughter had the Cheeseburger. Everyone was pleased with their selections, including the little ones, and appreciated the quick delivery after ordering. Again, Russ was superb with his order taking and delivery, and the cook staff did an excellent job in the preparation of the food. I noticed when we were all finished eating, that all the plates were empty, quite an accomplishment given that some of the young ones can be quite picky eaters. I was particularly impressed that we had arrived later toward closing time, but the food was as well prepared as if each was the first of the day. My wife, a person who can sometimes be severe in her judgement of food establishments, agreed that our first trip to Brick and Spoon was well worth it, and has expressed a desire to return someday soon. Popped in here for breakfast today, and I am so glad we did! I had the Bananas Foster French Toast and it's big enough to share, but I have a chubby soul, and ate it all by myself. No regrets- it was amazing. My husband got the pancake, and it huge. It takes up the whole plate. The bacon was great. Just the right amount of crispness and flavor. Our friends had the omelette, cheese grits (which has corn in it, by the way) and bacon. I didn't take photos of their food. My husband got a Bloody Mary and loved it. You get to totally create your own, so just the experience of that alone was pretty cool to him. Our server was excellent. The atmosphere is cool and casual, with loud-ish music playing. So we are out of town here on business and I decided to try something based on yelp reviews. The food was just all right it was nothing to write home about!!! I don't know if it's more of a state type of thing but the cheese grits had good flavor the only weird thing was is it had corn in it it was either corn that was canned or corn that was frozen. We decided to also order a French 75. The drinks were really good! Refreshing and strong. For entrees, we ordered French toast with grits, fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and a crab cake. It took awhile for us to get our food, especially since we saw other tables that came in after us, getting their food before us. We even had to ask another waitress because our waitress never came back after bringing our drinks out. Shortly after asking, our food was brought out. Unfortunately, my French toast were cold, so I had to get Laney to bring out some fresh ones. I've been to this location a couple times and it's pretty consistent. There is typically a wait, so be prepared for that, but it usually does move pretty quickly. I went for brunch today so I could use a $12 off $30 coupon that was about to expire. The wait was about ten minutes and the service was great. I ordered a pasta dish, which I rarely do when eating out, but I knew it would be at least 8 hours before my next meal so I wanted something substantial. I asked the waitress if she had a recommendation between the tasso and shrimp mac&cheese or the crab cake and shrimp penne. She said the Tasso makes the mac&cheese a little too salty so I went with her advice and ordered the one with the crab cake. My daughter loved the pasta. The temperature was inconsistent though. It was really hot in some bites, but other bites were luke warm. The shrimp were cooked nicely and tasted fresh. The crab cake wasn't bad - it had a good flavor, but don't expect any lumps of crab meat. It also seemed like it could have been cooked a little longer. The outside had a nice crust, but the inside wasn't hot at all. We also ordered a kids pancake and the bananas in pajamas to get to the $30 mark. The pancake was good. The bananas in pajamas were over fried for my liking. I've had them a few times and these weren't the best order. They come with a chocolate dipping sauce but I prefer them with out it. The menu at this location includes tons of dazzling looking items for lunch and brunch lovers! Opening at 7 am and closing after lunch, this restaurant only serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. Pros: My Dad had the Eggs Benedict with hashbrowns and the dish looked worthwhile! I got the spinach salad with shrimp and loved it - as well as the vinaigrette recommended by the server. I will return for more delicious options!!! Cons: Pretty pricey! My salad was $16. I didn't order a Bloody Mary, but they appeared to start at around $12.50. But I had a coupon so that made the price better! I was there on my lunch break and our meal took about 35-40 minutes to come out. The server told us it was due to an 18 top that came in, but otherwise they weren't that busy and she didn't really apologize or act sorry when I told her I was on my lunch break from work. She just said "I know." She was nice enough but I would have liked a bit more attention. The manager didn't stop by our table to apologize for the wait and I didn't see one when I was there. We sat in the very front of the restaurant and the chairs were extremely loud and disruptive as they scraped across the floor when people sat down or got up. There was no music in the front room so I felt like the other guests could hear everything I was saying. Great breakfast spot! We did have a 45 minute wait at 11:30am on a Saturday but needed to run an errand anyhow. It's a very popular spot! The biscuits are wonderful and fluffy. The strawberry purée (it's isn't quite jam) is lovely. We ordered the custom bloody Mary's and they were excellent! Didn't get a great picture of that, sadly. I had the veggie omelet which was HUGE though the eggs were cooked a little more well done than I care for. It was still tasty and the veggies were very good. Arrived on a Sunday about 11:20. Being that it was Sunday, I expected there to be a wait time. The host quoted us 15 minutes for a table for 2 or to sit at the bar. We chose the bar due to being on a time schedule. Once we were at the bar, it took a moment for the bartender to greet us and get us menus. She gave us time to look over and be able to order everything at once. We chose very simple and easy meals. 3 scrambled eggs, bacon and grits; pancake and bacon. Ordered at about 11:35. Between that time and 12:08, the bartender came and told us the food was coming 3-4 times. At 12:15 we still had no food. Other people who were sat after us had received their bar drinks and food while we kept being told that the food was about to be in the window. 12:20 we canceled our order and left. This Brick and Spoon has a cool look to it and up to date features. However, that is where the pleasantries ended, at least for me. The service was ok but there was seemingly only one waitress trying to serve multiple tables, this was at 9:30 AM where they should be busy and have staff on hand and just getting my coffee took forever (the coffee was also way to strong and bitter). I ordered a spinach and Bacon wrap and as much as I hate to leave negative reviews, it was absolutely disgusting. The bacon was not even cooked. It tasted funny to begin with but it was also not put on a stove top for more than 3 minutes at best. I couldn't even take more than two bites without needed to pick away or spit out the bacon fat (which was 90% of the bacon in the wrap). I hear this Brick and Spoon is under new ownership/management but this isn't a great start. Whoever the cook is, please find someone new or send who you currently have to a cooking class before they get someone sick. This little gem was across from our hotel! They have so many choices and it really is a hard choice but everything I tried was great!!! I am not a big eater in one sitting so I have to choose well the first go around, lol. I had the Breakfast Fries, which had a cheese gravy, bacon, over hard egg Delicious would be an understatement, it was amazing and yummy going down. To had I had a mimosa flight, strawberry, pineapple and mango! Outside of my own meal I tasted the corn grits, which were extra creamy and amazing. Lastly, the pecan smoked bacon. I enjoyed my time at Brick and Spoon. I started with the large mango mimosa & WOW! The flavor was everything. I had the Deviled on the Bayou as an appetizer. The fried shrimp on top of the deviled egg was just the right amount of crispy and seasoned to perfection, along with the spicy sauce. For my entree, I had the crab cakes/fried tomatoes over a bed of cheese grits. The crab cakes were not as crispy as I would have liked them and the batter on the fried green tomatoes didn't have a taste. We also had the French toast. It was okay, however the batter wasn't as sweet as we would have liked. We tasted more bread than anything. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and we know how to navigate the menu when we come again. ATTN OWNERSHIP: I am currently seated at the bar at your Mobile location on Airport Road. You should know that there are two women here running your entire FOH under a great deal of pressure and they are killing it. Management is absent and this location is short staffed at the moment as some of the employees here have been pulled to your West Mobile location for some unexpected staffing issue over there. I am empathetic to staffing problems in the post-pandemic hospitality industry. So, let me be clear that I am not writing this to complain about service, ambiance, or food. In fact I'm not complaining at all about anything and I am not going to give you some tone deaf lecture about how you "need to staff up" as I know that is easier said than done. I am writing this to let you know that you do have at least two employees that are committed to getting shit done and doing with a smile on their faces. In spite of the challenges they are facing they have kept a professional demeanor and have been very attentive and composed under stress. However, everyone has a breaking point so I thought you should be aware of the situation here so that perhaps you can reach out to them to show your appreciation and support because good employees are hard to find and god knows we can't afford to lose anymore good ones to remote sales jobs, desk jobs, etc. The pancakes are great, the coffee is fresh, and the hospitality is on point. I've heard really phenomenal things about this restaurant and finally dined in recently! Brunch is a favorite but I don't get to enjoy it as much as I'd like outside my own kitchen. As a vegetarian, I surprisingly have a lot of trouble finding a quality breakfast that isn't just an omelette or pancakes. The Farmer's Market Benedict changed that mold! It was delicious, filling, and paired with thick, creamy corn grits. I was honestly craving a pancake too so I indulged! The veggies were perfectly cooked but I will say that next time I would request my eggs over medium as they seemed a bit boiled. Everything else was sublime, down to the biscuit it was grilled on.
