I love good German food. If a town has a German restaurant, I try to check it out. Brewhaus is Chattanooga's more famous German places, maybe it's Chattanooga's only German restaurant? Since it's in downtown, it might be hard to find parking. There are some spaces outside, but it's a small lot. You would have to find street parking somewhere. The place looks small. But they have a decent patio. You can sit yourself when you come in. For being a German restaurant, they didn't have too many German beers on tap, and they seemed to rotate. They had more selections of German bottled beer though. They didn't have my favorite German beer on draft. But the one I had was pretty good. For the food, I tried the Veal Schnitzel art. For my sides, I chose the Potato salad and the Spatzel. The Veal Schnitzel was pretty good. It was 2 pieces, pounded and breaded. The breading was nice and crispy. The meat was tender and juicy. It was a good Schnitzel. The Spatzel came creamy. I'm not sure what was on it. It made it too heavy and creamy for me. The potato salad was good though. It had good chunks of bacon and potatoes. It was a lot of food. I was stuffed with just this 1 entree and 1/2 liter of beer. If you check in with yelp, you can get a free pretzel. I would've loved to try their pretzel, but I don't think I could've eaten it. The people there are cool, and the food is good. I suggest checking this place out to hang out or to eat some good German food. read more

Question: What kind of bar makes a grown, clearly thirsty adult male wait 20 minutes standing at the bar, with no line, just staring at him, without asking for his order? Answer: The same kind of bar that makes the same still-quite-thirsty man wait another 20 minutes WITH AN EMPTY BEER STEIN without asking him if he'd like another. Look, I'm very generous with my reviews. I normally only write notes of glowing praise. But you need to know a little about this place. Do not walk in here if you want good service... You won't find it. They were not crowded when I visited; it was like 1:30pm on a Saturday -- not like it was the night crowd. There were at least three people behind the bar the whole time, yet every one of them seemed to be making an effort to avoid eye contact. When my amusement ended, I finally asked the oldest and most responsible-looking woman if they served beer in this place, she answered, blankly, "Yes." So, after essentially forcing them to serve me a beer, I finished it. Then it got weirder. I sat for another 20 minutes with an empty glass in plain view. Bone dry. Finally, I took a long shot: I saw the other responsible-looking woman walk by, and I said, "Excuse me, are you the manager?" She said yes. I said, "I thought you should know that I'm having an extremely difficult time getting served a beer in your bar." She laughed and laughed. "I'm so sorry," she said. "The bar is not my section today. What can I get you?" What? My inference: These people are not being paid enough to care. Or, they just pathologically don't care enough to try. As to the merits: it's a nice setting. That's it. Basically a balcony with a bar area. In addition to lacking service, you know what else they don't have? German beers. They have exactly two German beers-- 2 -- on tap. A Weihenstphaner Hefe, and a Rathaus Pilsner. Then, two more German bottles. That's all. So, what kind of "German-American brew pub" is this? In my experience, not much of one. I'm sure the food is fine. How bad can you possibly screw up a sausage and some sauerkraut? Wait ... I'd better not ask ... this staff might try to show me. read more

I feel like if you're a starving things can go either one of two ways.. When you eat it could be absolutely orgasmic because you haven't eaten in a while and your body is craving anything. Or it could be totally terrible because maybe the last food dish you had was spectacular or you were holding out for the best of the best. Unfortunately my experience at Brewhaus was option number 2. We had driven a lot, hiked a good amount, and swam to cool off then our stomachs were ready for a killin'. A couple local friends said this was a must visit and at the first view of the menu I was stoked off my rocker. We all ordered different beers and got the free pretzel with Check-In! The beers were average and not worth it for such a high price but the pretzel was the best thing I had all not. So doughy and warm yet solid and crunchy in all the right places - Not to mention it was HUGE. I ordered, what I thought to be a big hot dog with cherries, potatoes and mixed veggies but came to the table as fried chicken(?) with dried cherries on top and the sides to match. It wasn't the worst thing in the world and most likely my fault for not understanding the menu correctly, but I could only eat half then switched back to my pretzel and finished off the night there. Definitely not worth the cost at all. Most expensive meal I had while in Tennessee and unfortunately also the most not worth it. The staff were extremely on the ball and there whenever we needed it which was awesome but almost to the point where it was a little overbearing and not too friendly. Big fan. Came here once pre-pandemic while visiting Chattanooga, then again on a return trip a month ago. This time we sat out on the side/front patio with the dog. I had schnitzel with potato cakes and spaetzle, fiance had a brat with sauerkraut; all were spot-hitters, just what we needed after a day of hiking. That, plus a liter of hefe. Props to our server for bringing out cold water for the dog, and for coming out to check on us frequently despite us being the only people on the side patio. Much appreciated. read more

Really good, I mean, really really good! Stopped in early afternoon for a quick lunch and brew while on vacation. We got the sampler appetizer, which included a giant pretzel, brat sliders, and the deep fried kraut balls. Pretzel was crisp on the outside, tender in the middle - delicious. The kraut balls and beat sliders were equally tasty. Went perfectly with the Octoberfest beer I had. It's a small place, and was definitely not busy when we were there, it was around 2:00pm on a Tuesday. It was definitely one of the top places we ate at while in town and we'll be back whenever we're in Chattanooga. read more

North Shore Gem of a spot, Sit on the back porch overlooking the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge eating the best German food around and drinking a giant beer. Indoor seating and the side patio is mainly beer garden style bench seating. Great for family and friends to get together and also a great way to meet new folks. I recommend the Bavarian Pretzels and the Jager Schnitzel Weiner Art with Spaetzle (German Egg Noodles) or the King Ludwig. Small location with outside and inside seating; rustic but quaint. They have a few parking spots in front but you will need to find street parking in most cases and of course that usually cost $ during the day. Staff is friendly and the food is very good, especially if you like sausages. Had the "nachos", which I highly recommend: potato patties, sausage and or chicken with cheese and lettuce. Also the deviled eggs are tasty. They have a full bar and draft craft beer (+1). The covered porch seating overlooks Coolidge park and they have plastic covers they put down for bad weather. They also have some picnic benches outside (not covered) and as well as inside seating, bar, tables and high tops. Service is friendly and food is good... a great meeting place. read more

Not a great experience. We waited for 35 minutes for potato cakes (we ordered just a side for our toddler daughter and were trying to get her fed as soon as possible). They clearly forgot our order and when we had to remind our server they came out cold. read more

UPDATE 1/2021: Okay. We love Brewhaus. Love, love Brewhaus. We've been coming here almost since they opened. My husband is German. You can see my previous glowing review. The food is still delicious, and I know times are hard right now; COVID has affected everyone. But... Their menu is missing a lot of favorites. It doesn't match what's online. BUT I still wasn't upset: Understandable, considering the pandemic. Supply chains are crazy and it's difficult to keep everything stocked. I get it. However, they are still charging $16.50 for entrees - and you're getting literally 1/3 of the food you got, pre-COVID. The side veggies used to include broccoli, carrots, zucchini - huge pile of gorgeous vegetables. Last night, I received 3 pieces of grilled, unseasoned zucchini. Small pile of spaetzle, maybe 1/2 a cup. Everything served in paper baskets, plastic utensils. You used to come here and leave with a huge plate of stick to your ribs food. I don't eat very much; I actually take a to-go box every time, but for $16.50, I'd like more than 3 tiny pieces of zucchini as a side. If they're going to downsize on portions THAT noticeably, they need to downsize on prices. We always tip very generously and we eat out a fair bit - it has been a very, very long time since we've felt like a meal "wasn't worth it," truly - but that happened last night at Brewhaus, sadly. We spent $100, and it wasn't worth it. We love this place. We will be back once COVID is gone, in hopes that they've gone back to their usual ways. Right now, it just isn't worth it to us. OUTSTANDING food. This is a place that we've been meaning to try for years, and glad we finally did! Casual, bar-like environment. If the weather was nice, like on the day of our visit, the back will be open to allow access to the deck, which has a nice view of Coolidge park. There is also a beer garden outside, where smoking is allowed. First of all, get the pretzel. It's great. They are fresh baked, then warmed up prior to serving. They are served with three house-made mustards, but pay the extra to get the pimento cheese. It is outstanding. I had a "King Ludwig" sandwich, which is schnitzel with bacon, sauerkraut, and apple butter. It was great, the sweetness of the apple butter is great with the kraut. My wife had the "Haus Nachos" which are "Nachos" made with crispy potato pancakes topped with sliced bratwurst, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. Odd sounding, but incredibly good. I had a side of Spätzle with my sandwich, which was excellent as well. They offer this as an entree, which I might have to try next time. They had a pretty extensive beer list, both draft and bottles/cans, but I'm not a beer drinker, so can't be too informative about that. There is a VERY small parking lot in front, during busy times you're probably going to have to find parking elsewhere. This is a place that we'll be going back to again for sure! read more

The poor bf and I didn't know this so when we told our waiter we were splitting the jager schnitzel wiener art, the food came out on two filled plates. Brewhaus - SEHR GUT!!! Wow oh wow - when my man said he wanted to try this place I was a bit hesitant being a vegetarian. I thought there was no way in hell that they'd have anything for me but a salad, but he wanted to go so I can't always get my way! Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!! They had some great options for me. Several in fact which it made it tough to choose! As I deliberated over my decision, we ordered some brews from our very sociable bartender. They had a long list of beers and quite a few on tap. She let us try several different options until we found the one we liked. My brew was even local and come with a glass and some other trinkets! As all this was happening, I checked in on my Yelp app and another great surprise came up - a FREE Bavarian pretzel! Sweet!! So onto the food - I was in German comfort food heaven when it arrived. I opted for the veggie spaetzel with a veggie brat! So freakin good this dish was! Creamy, perfectly cooked noodles (kinda like pasta, but texture of gnocchi) with tons of fresh veggies! The brat was cooked to perfection with grill char and all. This food made me happy and I would so come back and eat it again. I wasn't crazy about the cabbage, but it was OK. And the pretzel was also just a flawless creation. Soft with a crisp outer crust and so scrumptious! But that mustard ... I dreamt of that mustard all night long. I couldn't pick a favorite of the three and so wished they'd bottle that stuff up so I could take it home!! (I hear that's in the works). My man got the half schnitzel with German potato salad. He really enjoyed his as well. This place is great! I'm sure when the weather's nicer, it's pretty fab to sit out on the patio as well. Still love this place, and the view from the patio is spectacular. Came in on an early fall evening and watched the sunset from the patio as the brilliantly orange sky faded into the mountains and the Tennessee River. Really beautiful. I'm trying to eat a keto based diet and while the pretzels and potatoes and spaetzle are off the table for me, there's still plenty of things to choose from. Sausages! Did someone say sausage? I had the combo plate with 2 brats and some braised red cabbage and a dinner salad. It worked out perfectly and I didn't feel like I was missing out (much). Though that HUGE pretzel tried to tempt me, I refrained. I did order a Bloody Mary and it was probably the strangest tasting Bloody Mary I've ever had. It was sweet. Ummmmm. What? Yes, sweet. I kept adding salt to it and hot sauce but that just made it worse. I couldn't drink it. I told our server I just didn't like it and she took it away. Not long after, the manager came over to apologize that I didn't like the drink and could he do something else for me. I appreciated the approach to this. He didn't try to shame me or make excuses, just great customer service by acknowledging that I just didn't care for the drink. No big issue at all, and it was taken off the bill. Now that's how you handle your customer service business. I have great respect for that. Wife and I came here by accident! By it was a pleasant treat! I got the sausage platter, with vegetables and spaetzle. It came with three different kinds of sausage: Bratwurst, knockwurst, and smocked sausage. All of them were great. The vegetables were broccoli and cauliflower, and very good! The spaetzle was also great! My wife got the pecan chicken salad with home fries. Both of those were great as well. Service was quick and friendly! We've been here quite a few times before. So my Fiance and I came into the restaurant looking for a good Sunday afternoon Fall meal. We ordered a pretzel appetizer, and shared the Spaetzle with the brussel sprouts and potatoes. This dish was flavorful and had great color. The pretzel had a crispiness that made it practically melt in your mouth. There were three types of mustard for dipping, each with a unique flavor. I think we could have eaten just the pretzel and been happy. The beer we had was the Paulaner Oktoberfest. It was light and was a good match with our food. Oh how we loved the Brewhaus! We lucked out parking wise and were able to park right in front. We were given a choice of inside or out....it wasn't too hot yet so we chose outside. Service was great and the menu has a lot of food to chose from! (check in with yelp and get a free pretzel!) My husband got the two sausage and sides....not 100% sure which two he chose but I know the sides were spaetzle and sauerkraut. Nothing left of the plate! I had the Jäger Schnitzel with spaetzle and cucumber salad. What little was left was inhaled by my husband. This is a rarity! We can't wait to go back in November! read more

Outdoor German band Tony and I love the Northside of Chattanoogna. We were drawn to this Brewhaus by the lovely Polka music we were hearing while strolling the sidewalks and the parks on the riverside...so we went to investigate and found outside "OOMPA PA PA BAND" on the sidewalk area of the Brewhaus...wish they had been in Coolidge Park and more room to enjoy than a wide opening on the sidewalk in front of the Brewhaus..but it was enjoyable.. Making me wishing I had went to the Volksfest in Nashville...hummm...I will go to that event on Sunday...lol !!! We enjoyed the atmosphere and great music.. Tony ordered a mug of New Belgium Beer that they were selling..sort of dark but good and full body tasting..I enjoyed a soda..I am the driver back to Nashville...lol !!! and when I checked in on my YELP app on my smart phone I was rewarded with a check in gift...a free Bavarian Pretzel...YEP...thanks to YELP..I am a winner of a great Pretzel.. with some awesome German Mustard...thanks YELP....Just what I wanted and Needed.....some great salty goodness... Traveling from out of town and spotted this great local German restaurant. We split the pretzel and the schnitzel, which were both absolutely delicious. The potato salad was warm, which was surprising, but it was fair. The spaetzle was so, so good. This place is the bomb. Seriously, what's not to love about authentic German food, great service, fun atmosphere, and oh yeah DELICIOUSNESS. So, first of all I have to admit, I've been to Germany and this food wasn't quite the same. But where is it in the states, you know? Mine just had more of a chargrilled taste than I ever tasted over there, but nonetheless it was super super good. And all the german menu items I had seen in Berlin! Very cool! I got the spaetzel (and free pretzel thank you Yelp) and it was to die for. A huuuuge portion too, I couldn't eat it all. I love that stuff, and they did not disappoint. The pretzel was so hot and soft and amaaaazing... and the beer I tried was great too! I had a lighter brew and totally forgot the name of it. They were all a hit at our table, though.
