Overall, I'm swinging between 3.5 to 4 stars. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. They are byob and have fresh squeezed oj or grapefruit juice, which is a major plus! I ordered the chilaquiles that everyone is raving about.... it was good, but not the best I've had....nor did it really live up to all the hype on Yelp, unfortunately. I like how there were a variety of ingredients in it, but I thought the eggs were a bit too "eggy" and the flavors were too subtle (became one big mush after awhile). I'd love to see more zing come through the beans, corn, guac, chorizo (which I barely tasted). My husband got the chorizo hash, which was also highly rated on yelp... the potatoes were NOT crispy at all! Just boiled :( Perhaps next time we will specify for a super crispy sear. Pancakes were ok, not the best but not the worst. They serve it with store-bought jam and butter packets, along with the standard syrup. If in the neighborhood again, we may stop by, but I don't think we'd drive exclusively to eat here, IMO. read more

Great affordable breakfast joint in this community that was family friendly and satisfying. The service was quick & efficient but friendly and warm. We were easily able to bring our 1yo and they had high chairs. We felt fully welcomed as a family!!! Food was good - had the chorizo hash (for which they are known) and it was clearly made with fresh product, very tasty and the chorizo was crispy without the addition of chorizo fat drowning the dish. My wife had crepes which were certainly not crepes, but rather thin pancakes (yes there is a difference in texture because they must of used some sort of leavening agent to make these) - although tasted good. The rest of our guests had dishes they were happy with as well. Finally, and certainly high on the list of importance in a breakfast joint, the coffee was intelligentsia with a decent strength -- a good cup of coffee is a must!!! We got there early enough to not suffer any wait time (probably arrived like 9-930 on a Sunday am). All in all really pleased. read more

Never dined in, only carry out for Breakfast House. But I can tell you, their food is ALWAYS FRESH, FLAVORFUL AND DELICIOUS. Vanilla pancakes with strawberries and bananas has to be my favorite. The breakfast hash is good too! I wish their chicken and waffles had chicken strips instead of breasts and thighs, but that's more of a personal preference. The chorizo hash with potatoes was good, not great. Chicken and waffles was decent, chicken was on the dryer side. Maple syrup is really tasty. Chilaquiles are good but, again, not great. I'm guilty of being a bougie brunch person (that is, a sucker for nice ambiance and "inventive" dishes and cocktails with ingredients I can't pronounce). Breakfast House is not that. It's diner food, but the best kind. They're well known for their chilaquiles and chorizo hash, which were both really good and homey. The best thing though was their corn cake -- definitely get this. Coffee was strong. Service was prompt. All around a very enjoyable time. read more

My first time visiting this place will be my last time. After placing an order for breakfast, paying for it and then tipping 20%, I proceeded to take one of the seven empty tables for two, sit and wait for my food to be prepared to go. There were two other parties in the place eating, plenty of room, as I suppose it should only take 5 minutes or so to prepare a breakfast burrito. By the way, a breakfast burrito with two drinks is $25, plus tip. The man working then walks up within 20 seconds of me sitting and says "this table is for customers". I responded "I am a customer, aren't I?" He says, "but you're getting this to go". I said "okay, wow, that makes me not a customer?!" Then I proceeded to wait outside for my food, standing up. Funny that I had just walked two miles to a job I was working a block away from this place. I guess I'm not worth their seats. As I waited for my food, only one other person walked in, and they did not sit either, just picked something up to go. This place needs to take a lesson in customer service and tact. Probably the worst dining experience in the past two years read more

The absolutely worst experiences I think ever had at a restaurant, at least in my last 10 years of living. We sat down we were greeted very nicely. We are mediately given water. We then waited over 30 minutes to have our order taken, my wife even asked for the server and she said she be right back. We had a little baby girls too, so now she doesn't get to eat for another hour because we wasted over 30 minutes just sitting at a restaurant! Cozy little restaurant that sits in a residential area of Chicago. It's close to downtown, but far enough removed that you can escape the grind a bit. It's a small place, so get there at the right time to avoid standing outside. The food was delicious! I had the French toast with apples. No complaints. Their pineapple buns and egg tarts are her favorites as well. Saint Anna has also been part of our daughter's childhood. When she was little, my husband used to bring her here before or after Chinese school in Chinatown on Sundays. Her go-to breakfast items were the Butter Bun, Ham and Macaroni in Soup, and Diced Ham and Corn in Cream Rice. As she got older, Curry Chicken with Potato became her favorite. She especially loved the potato cubes soaked in the delicious, mild curry sauce. She would always ask for more potatoes and less chicken, haha! I've had the pleasure of dining at Breakfast House three times now for brunch, and each visit has left me with a delightful experience. This cozy little spot has become one of my go-to places for a satisfying brunch. One of the standout features of Breakfast House is its menu. It strikes a perfect balance between offering a variety of options without overwhelming you with choices. Whether you're in the mood for classic breakfast fare or something a bit more adventurous, they have you covered. I appreciate that I can explore different items on each visit without feeling like I've exhausted all my options. The food at Breakfast House is consistently delicious, and while it may not boast particularly unique flavors or presentations, it certainly doesn't disappoint. The quality and taste of their dishes are dependable, and I've never left feeling unsatisfied. From fluffy pancakes to hearty breakfast plates, they excel in delivering classic brunch dishes with a delicious twist. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and intimate, making it ideal for smaller groups or even a peaceful solo brunch. However, if you're planning a gathering with a large group, you might want to consider other options as the space can be a bit limited. Nevertheless, the charming ambiance adds to the overall appeal of Breakfast House, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a leisurely meal. read more

I came here with some friends for the first time after checking Yelp and I just want to pass them by another review. Here's how my meal went here-- I started by ordering my typical orange juice, my friend had a water. The juice wasn't fresh it was machine, but that was expected - most places do this so no real complaint there. After looking at the menu I ended up getting sausage egg & cheese with a side of homefries and fruit. My friend had poaches with a side order of homefries. Now for the food ratings-- Sausage egg & cheese - 5 stars, I'm so glad that they didn't hold back on the sausage. I REALLY hate when places give you this thin piece of meat and you're just eating bread with ketchup on it. Breakfast house did not let me down. Homefries - 5 stars, the chef makes some great potato dishes and doesn't let down here at all. They were just slightly crispy with a yellow and white middle. PERFECT! Fruit bowl - 5 stars, sugar top, fresh fruits, awesomely sweet. Poached eggs - 2 stars, poached eggs are a little tricky because of the water, it may have just been a simple error but it looked like they were a little too wet in the cup don't think I'm going to try these again but the rest was great. All in all 4.5 stars (not if only I could give that rating...) read more

I ordered the Mexican omelette with chicken sausage, and it was easily one of the better omelettes I've had. The eggs were exceptionally fluffy, while the fresh vegetables, melted cheese, and well-seasoned chicken sausage created a satisfying balance of textures and flavors. The homemade ranchero sauce was the standout--bright, flavorful, and the perfect complement to the dish. What impressed me most was the execution of something seemingly simple. Every component was fresh, properly prepared, and thoughtfully balanced, proving that when quality ingredients and technique come together, simplicity can speak for itself. The pancakes were equally impressive--light, fluffy, and cooked to perfection. Overall, The Breakfast House offers a well-executed breakfast experience with quality at the forefront. A restaurant I'd be more than happy to return to. read more

I love this spot! I went to High school right around the corner from this place and there food is to die for. Family run as well! Love to support a local chicago business! But today I probably had the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The table was not clean and it was sticky. It smelled like dirty mop water in the restaurant. I waited 35 minutes for my food when people at other tables sat down after us, ordered after us and got there food before us? After waiting 35 minutes for my food they managed to cook a steak unevenly? Half of it was medium rare and the other was medium. I didn't even know that was possible. They also don't know how to use visa gift card for payment which is pretty pathetic. Sad to say I won't be going back and I advise that if you don't have 2hours+ to waste at a restaurant, don't go here. read more

Man, swung by Breakfast House last weekend and the Paris Omelette might be the best thing I've had in ages. It's three eggs folded with shaved Virginia ham, gooey Gruyère and Dijon butter, served with house potatoes and toast--total comfort vibes. Staff were super chill and refilled my coffee quickly, don't even gotta ask. The place has that corner café energy, and if it's sunny you can snag a sidewalk table and feel like you're kickin' back in Lakeview. Honestly, that Paris Omelette hits creamy, buttery, salty and every bite felt like I knew what I was doing. If you're craving a solid, no-nonsense brunch spot, this is it--solid value, killer flavor, and a real Chicago brunch vibe. Easy 5 stars. read more

I ordered from Grubhub 2 similar dishes: the 2 eggs with sausage links, a side of potatoes, and rye bread. The only difference in the dishes were how the eggs were cooked. When I received my order, I found a melted bread tie hidden under the potatoes. When I called to ask for a refund, they only refunded for the one dish and not the two that I asked for, despite the fact that the other dish would've been cooked in the same batch of potatoes. Poor customer service, food was nothing special, and will never order from here again! read more

Drool. All I can say, after finding this small hidden gem on yelp, My wife and I decided to treck through the snow. Easily one of the best decisions that I made all day. The food was hot, cheap and delicious. I tried to eat healthily and get the egg-white frittata, seeing as my recent fitness test showed how fat I am. My wife, on the other hand, made the right decision and got the Chilaquiles. Those were far and away one of the best breakfast dishes that I've had in Chicago. Going back soon, I promise! read more

I've come here a couple of times on the weekend for breakfast/brunch, and I've had a great experience each time! Everyone that works here is so friendly and accommodating! This place runs like an efficient machine without making your time here feel rushed. And the food! Everything tastes so fresh and is prepared perfectly. The Chilaquiles are one of my favorite things. I usually get the weekend specials, so note that these rotate and will not be on the menu every week. Both locations are worth it. read more

I had a little wait for food to be served. The place was cool and the inside felt welcoming, with nice seating and greater when we walked in. Excellent food recommendation from a kind server. Excellent breakfast options were available on the sizable menu. There are so many delicious meals there. I'd think it's worth a go. The beverages had a pleasant combination and were quite chilled. The French toast and breakfast burrito taste good. It tastes good and is generously portioned. Fantastic pricing! read more

The Breakfast House makes me wish I was in that movie Groundhog Day, so I could wake up every morning and eat their delicious food. Service: prompt and courteous. Food: delicious and perfectly proportioned Price: $8-12/plate. Worth it. BH isn't the fanciest place you'll ever eat at, but it's clean, comfortable and worth every penny. The perfect place at which to become a regular. read more

Don't listen to the low ratings, they're spoiled with having 2 minute fast food all their lives. If you're looking for something cozy and delicious come to this place, like they said, the waffles and chicken are amazing. The waiters are friendly and offer good suggestions. Went in at about 11 and wasn't very busy at all. Try it out, I'm sure you'll have just as good experience. read more

Racist people with horrible service. We made a reservation online through yelp and when we arrived as a group of 5 black people they told us they didn't have a table available and that someone with my same name had just come in and got my table. Racism is alive and well at this place. We ended up leaving as we were not going to spend our money here. Avoid at all costs. read more

Unassuming yet awesome! Crepes and fried chicken sandwich ... nuff said. This little diner/restaurant has amazing food at reasonable prices. Portions are large and everything tastes amazing. Terrible service. Ordered food that was never delivered waited over 2.5 hours. Then they took their phone off the hook, lol. If you can't handle the volume then let your guests know so it doesn't ruin their day. Especially on Mother's Day. We could have just ordered from another spot. Lost a new customer, first impressions are everything. read more

I ordered the much lauded and upvoted sandwich, and ordered a Black Sesame Latte. The whole experience was fantastic, and my mouth is already watering at the thought of a return visit. They take the classic bacon, egg, and cheese, and elevate it way up! The use of the perfectly cooked and crisp hash brown bestows a magical, delicate crispness. The real magic, though, came from the sweet-spicy jalapeño jam. A little heat, a little sweet, a lot amazing. Allez hit the superfecta, just the right amount of sweet, salty, savory, and spicy! The Black Sesame Latte was similarly wonderful. It wasn't too sweet, and the black sesame notes carried a delightful savoriness, rounded out by a little salt. This was one of the more flavorful lattes I've had yet! When it comes to the service, the folks behind the counter were very friendly, welcoming, and polite. Food and coffee came out fast too, despite being moderately busy at the time. As for the prices, while they run higher than Dunkin', you do get a far superior product.
