As a student, finding a good study spot is always high on my to-do list, and I feel like Allez Cafe checked almost all my boxes. From the yummy sando to the chill, vibey music, it's honestly such a great place to study. The music wasn't too loud (which is a must), there was a decent amount of seating, and they had a really nice balance of drinks and food options. I've been twice now and enjoyed it both times. Food-wise, I tried both the breakfast sando and the fried chicken sando. The fried chicken was my favorite, it was crispy, flavorful, and super tasty. The only thing is the coleslaw-to-bun ratio feels a little off, so it gets messy fast. Still worth it though. The breakfast sando has great flavors too, the eggs were thick and silky, and the combo of Gouda and jam worked perfectly together. The hash brown, unfortunately was way too greasy for me. It kind of overpowered everything else and made the sandwich feel heavy. If you're sensitive to oily food, I'd definitely stick with the fried chicken instead. read more

Egg soufflé was super soft and wouldn't expect anything less from a place that everyone raves about. Now for the very pricey cookie, I was apprehensive of trying it but I wanted to find out for myself. The size of the cookie is like 2 Levain's cookies it's huge. Obviously not as thick as a Levain cookie but it's huge! It was a little overcooked and too crispy on the edges but the center of the cookie was perfect. It was a standard tasting chocolate cookie. Came in on a Saturday morning right when they opened - I've seen long lines outside of this place in the past but it was cold out so only a few people were at the door. We ordered 2 breakfast sandos, a Turkish coffee, cream top americano, pistachio croissant & miso chocolate chip cookie. It was expensive so be prepared. We spent $60-70. Prob could have split the sando and not left so full. The inside is cute and probably has seating for ~15 or so people. Loved the sweet and savory of the breakfast sando. The hash brown was really crispy on the edges but got soggy in the middle. The aioli was delicious and enjoyed the texture of the egg. The Turkish coffee was also delicious and had really unique flavor to it, would definitely recommend! Along with the pistachio croissant. Miso chocolate chip cookie just tasted like a brown butter chocolate chip cookie I wasn't getting any miso in it. The major downside was the service, several customers were asking questions or interacting with the staff and they were all giving vague / dry responses. I love how their menu is super simple with basically 2 items on the menu which were the fried chicken sandwich or the breakfast sando. The breakfast sando was very oily, but the hash brown was super crispy along with the jam that gave it a bit of a kick every time I took a bite of the sandwich. I ordered the rotating cream top which was pandan and enjoyed it a lot. They had some small tables and one long table in the cafe. Line/Service was super quick. I ordered the cajeta latte which was made with goat milk caramel. It tasted exactly how it sounds. I enjoyed it but be warned it does have a strong goat flavor and smell. Food: 8/10 We ordered the Breakfast Sando and an almond croissant. The almond croissant was what I would expect both in looks and taste. To say the almond croissant was anything short of flaky, sweet perfection would be a damn lie, but to be honest, I have never met an almond croissant that I didn't love. Now lets discuss the star of the show.... The Breakfast Sando. I truly see what all the hype is about. The egg is fluffy, the hashbrown is a perfect square with great crisp, and the sauce glued everything together. The sandwich was a rich delicacy and everything comes together in harmony. Upon one of my first bites, I think I mistook the unique richness of this sandwich for a "fishy" taste, but in the best possible way. Many would have considered this overwhelming, but all I could see was a small business that has truly outdone themselves. To be fair, it can be a bit of a burden to get a seat in the small area, but anything larger would take away from the café's small/comfy aesthetic. Definitely don't show up under the impression that you will be sitting at a table right away. Likelihood of Return 8/10: If I'm in the area in the future its an absolute yes, but I don't live in the direct area and there are dozens of other Chicago breakfast sandwiches that I would like to try.
