    Cool neon signs

I'm glad my daughter is a big fan of good matcha! She found this GTB and boy am I happy she did. She took charge of ordering our drinks while I got to soak in the vibe. It's simple and clean with accent custom neon sign messaging on mounted on a few walls. The clear drink cups creates a clear canvas for the colors of the drinks to shine through. Aside from drinks, GTB sells products for making amazing drinks like matcha. My drink actually contained real orange pulp and and orange slice that looks like had been burnt a little for that unique flavor... I could be wrong but it sure looked like it! Perfect for a summer thirst quencher.

This place hits the spot! I was craving literally Hojicha and black sesame which they had surprisingly enough! Though the matcha drinks looked really good though! I can't wait to come back and try them! Anyways the hojicha was perfectly made but they only had oat milk available for non dairy option. Hojicha tea went so well with the black sesame! You can really taste that black sesame. I can drink this all day! Service was quick! They have kiosks to order from. Ambiance- chill vibes. It does get pretty busy here!

    Mango Matcha CREAM

Tried the mango matcha cream drink at Gathers Tea Bar and it was honestly a solid pick. Nothing super over-the-top or crazy, but just really well done. The matcha had a nice smooth flavor without being too bitter, and the mango added a good amount of sweetness that balanced everything out. The cream on top tied it all together and gave it a nice texture. Overall, just a really solid drink I'd definitely get again if I'm in the area.

The Strawberry Matcha Cream was easily one of the best strawberry matcha drinks I've had. The strawberries tasted fresh and natural, and the earthy matcha cream balanced the sweetness really well. We ordered it at 50% sweetness, and it was perfect. Definitely a 9.9/10 for me. The Assam Black Tea was just okay. 6/10 The tea flavor was a bit too weak for my taste, but I really enjoyed the boba and jelly toppings, which added a nice texture to the drink.

Quick trip to Chicago and we wanted tea... wow, Gathers was an excellent choice. They have a big menu and the drinks are really refreshing. Space also has some seating area. Street parking available in front of the store. We didn't pay since we were going to be in and out, I grabbed the sesame hochica latte and the peach oolong. I am a fan of real flavorful tea Please come and create your own adventure.

Gathers is always a great choice! For matcha, jasmine green milk tea, hojicha....they have a revolving menu of seasonal orders that I am always nervous to try but have heard great things about. The boba is always perfect and drinks can be customized to your liking. The store is aesthetically decorated and great for pictures (except for the crowds of people). I love that their cups have illustrations by a local artist. It's a must to try!

Theee BEST strawberry matcha latte I've had this far. Matcha was high quality and very green in color. Sweet but not too sweet. Oat milk alternative and different boba and toppings available. Customer service was excellent. We were greeted by multiple staff members upon entry. Street parking available. We'll definitely be back. Recommended.

The matcha powder I bought (pictured) is really good both by itself as a hot tea as well as in iced lattes with whipped cream. It makes an excellent bright green foam. I will get another container soon.

not a fan of their matcha. we got a black sesame matcha but we tasted the matcha itself before mixing. it's very vegetal and tasted so much of grass and spinach. it has slight umami and bitterness, but just didn't sit well with the black sesame as well which was very grainy

Came here on a Saturday around 4pm and we were able to find parking quickly. We waited roughly 20 minutes to order cause it was decently packed inside. Definitely order the cream version of the matcha latte. It's soooo good. I ordered 2 drinks: strawberry matcha latte with oat milk and a mango matcha latte cream with oat milk. The regular matcha latte has a stronger matcha flavor and the color is a dark green while the cream has a lighter cream color but the matcha was perfect amount. The cream is so much smoother. I will definitely be coming back and trying the strawberry matcha latte cream version.

Gather's Tea in Chicago was amazing!! The drinks were really delicious, and I loved the vibe too. The mango matcha cream is so good!! I really love it and would definitely come back again heheheh

I loved this cafe! The matcha was so good. It was the perfect amount of sweetness mixed with matcha. I ordered through a kiosk so I didn't have much interaction with the staff but they made the drinks well. The drinks did take about 20 minutes to come out but they were really good. I would definitely come back.

My family and I decided to try Gathers Tea Bar for their matcha while visiting Chicago, and I can honestly say that they're more so a boba spot than a matcha one, which is understandable. We ordered their matcha latte and strawberry matcha latte, and the matcha flavor is subtle and almost not there. Their staff is friendly and welcoming, and there is a good amount of seating inside. I'd recommend this place as more of a boba place rather than for matcha.

Ask the Community - Gathers Tea Bar

How many grams of matcha do you use for the lattes? Does the larger size have the same amount of matcha and just more milk?

Hi Kim, our 16oz lattes have 2 tsp (~5-6 grams) of matcha. Our 24oz lattes have 1.5x more matcha and milk.

    Do they use powdered milk?

Hi JJ, to keep with authenticity, we create our drinks based on the origins of how it was created. Our Japanese matcha lattes use a whole milk and our Taiwanese classic and premium milk teas use a non-dairy creamer.

The only downside to Tuesday's visit was that we came around 8 and they had run out of golden boba for the day.

They have plushies sitting on the couch in the waiting area and a little floral Instagram wall that's clearly meant for photos. We also very much appreciated that they have a bathroom, which isn't always guaranteed in Chinatown spots. I got the large Fruity Party drink and loved it. It had slices of citrus floating in it plus a rainbow of fruit jellies at the bottom. It was both super refreshing and really pretty. I'd absolutely order it again. My sister got the medium kumquat lemon seasons tea. It was super strong and concentrated, which is just the way I like my tea. I learned that I liked kumquat kumquat so that's a fun bonus. We'll definitely be back next time we are in Chinatown.

DaBoba? More like DaCustard!…read more Wanting a little sweet treat, I stopped into Daboba for a Roasted Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Tea. I initially attempted to order at the kiosk, only to discover doing so comes with a 3% fee vs. ordering with a human. It's not about the nickels, it's the principle of the thing! I instead placed my order with the clerk - less ice, less sweet. Though it wasn't very busy at the time, the drink came out relatively fast. The service overall was friendly, too! Now, about this beverage... if I'd asked for a "surprise me," I'd be happier. This is because on its own, it was respectable and unique in its custard-like consistency. However, given that I'd ordered a milk tea, where neither the appropriate consistency nor tea notes made an appearance, my happiness and satisfaction levels go down. To give some credit, the beverage I received wasn't too sweet, and had a slight velvety mouthfeel. It was unique and interesting, unlike anything I had ever had before. Final verdict: there is no shortage of boba tea shops around, especially in Chinatown. If you're going to do something different, power to you. However, don't say you sell one thing, and sell another.

There aren't many seats available so it feels like a semi boba shop as well. To sum it up, I would say it is ~70 to 80% authentic, which is not bad in my opinion. Braised Pork Over Rice 招牌滷肉飯: The presentation was beautiful and the flavor was actually pretty good. In Taiwan, this dish is usually more on the sweeter side, due to the sugar and shallots added. Here, it is more peppery and savory, and the flavor was actually really good. The beans and the mustard greens were very delicious as well. Even though the flavor profile is slightly different, this was well made and something I would come back for. Noodles with black pepper sauce 胡椒鐵板麵: traditionally this dish is called蘑菇鐵板麵, which uses mushrooms, black pepper and other sauces as a base. The flavor was good, but I wish that there were more mushroom and sauce to balance the black pepper. In my opinion, this dish tasted very different from what I used to eat, but it is not bad on its own. 2/4 Fried pork chops: the meat was fried very well, and it was pretty peppery and crispy. However, I think there are different spices and flavor missing, including white pepper, msg, garlic, Thai basil, cayenne pepper, and more. I wished that the savoriness and spiciness popped up more, and I thought the spice blend and the marinade could definitely use some improvement. 3/4 Beef noodle soup 牛肉麵: I thought the bone broth was pretty good, but I believe the flavor profile should be wider, like tomatoes, five spice, 豆瓣醬, soy sauce, and more. It was a stripped down version, and I wished that is reflected in the name of the item (renaming it "clear soup" etc). Also, the amount of meat they gave us was a little bit pitiful (there were like four pieces), and there were two pieces of bok choy. When Taiwanese people eat beef noodle soup, we definitely expect more. 2/4 Additionally, I wish the drinks were made with some fresh ingredients (not just syrup or creamer), as standard/good quality boba shops from Taiwan try to make drinks as fresh as possible. That is high ask, but I just wanted to note that as a suggestion for improvement. Overall, I thought the food was pretty decent. Would I say it is the most representative Taiwanese restaurant in Chicago? No. The staff was actually Chinese loll. But I do think it reminds me of some flavors and food I grew up eating in Taiwan. If you like popcorn chicken and pork, it is likely a good place for you.

Solid, tasty taiwanese food!…read more We enjoyed a mix of dishes (chicken bento box for me, beef noodle soup for my boyfriend, as well as fries with Thai seasoning and a boba tea for me). The green beans came as a side with my bento box and were amazing. The ordering system is a little clunky and annoying but we got through it. Vibes in the space are fine, it's an efficient little cafe The biggest thing is that there's really an opportunity for more sauces! For the fries, for the popcorn chicken, for example, a sauce would make a big difference to dip it in. I like this place and expect to be back
