When I arrived, the whole place was empty, but it did fill up with a crowd shortly after I got there. They have self-serve kiosks, so it was really easy to order. My tea was ready for pickup quickly. Not sure why it took me so long to check out Molly Tea. The moment I stepped in, I felt like I stepped into mainland China. The order dashboard, the takeout bags, the efficiency, the consistency of mask wearing reminds me of the coffee/tea chains in mainland. Wow, I'm just so surprised to see it here. The shop is small but still had a lot of people. What's crazy was that the queue is so long from online orders. The efficiency is just like China tho, the queue moved quickly. The options and customization is so detailed. Honestly had no idea what I would start with, but the "popular" tags sort of helped me decide. I got a premium Jasmine milk tea hot with lowest sugar, tongmu lapsang salted cheese milk tea hot with lowest sugar, and pistachio jasmine coconut iced with lowest sugar. All of which had really good and strong tea flavor. The jasmine was the most noticeable, a bit more than I'm used to but really good. All of the drinks were good but not as creamy or thick or heavy as other places-- this is probably both a pro and con depending on how you like it. I didn't like the salted cap, not sure why it's green and tasted like matcha, shouldn't it be for the tongmu lapsang? Perhaps I should order it inside and have them put the cap in the drink. Overall, really happy with the flavors. I would definitely try out some of their other ones in the future. So glad to this Shenzhen chain having a location in Chicago. read more

To say it's crowded is an understatement, it is packed!! You can either order at the kiosk or with a staff member (some items can't be ordered on the kiosk, so keep that in mind). The line/order moves pretty quickly, considering how busy it was. As for the drinks, the tea flavor is strong, and the creaminess isn't overpowering like many cheaper stores, you can really taste the milk tea. Personally, I like it slightly sweeter, so next time I'll add a little more sweetness. It's definitely not cheap, but considering the quality, I'd say it's worth it. I enjoy the milk tea here, and just realized they have an oat milk option, so I won't have to limit my intake any longer lol - I've tried the apple, jasmine, and the osmanthus milk teas in San Mateo - by far my favorite is the Jasmine, and the flavor is consistent between the locations - and I like pearls thrown in though it does change the flavor of the milk tea a bit. As a disclaimer, all their drinks kinda have a floral-y type base so if you're not fond of those flavors and subtle sweetness this tea shop may not be for you. I like Molly tea because their base is not too sweet. Both drinks were easily sippable and had great flavor. I didn't feel like I was hit with a sugar bomb drink. If you have kids and or are looking for a classic boba tea spot with fruity flavors, popping boba, etc. this may not be the place for you. A basic standard for determining how good a boba shop is by the quality of the boba - and in this case, I was sorely disappointed. The brown sugar boba pearls were hard, which was very unfortunate and made it difficult to finish the drink. On my second visit, I ordered a premium jasmine matcha milk tea, another top seller. I really appreciated the option for foam on the side, which allowed me to add the quantity I wanted and ensured that the drink wasn't already all mixed together by the time it was delivered to me. I've been meaning to try Molly Tea ever since they opened but haven't been able to since it always seemed so busy but I was lucky enough to drop by last weekend when I was in town and omg! Their white champaca matcha milk tea was devineeee. I got it at 75% sweetness as recommended and I absolutely loved it! Not overwhelmingly sweet but creamy and a little bitter. It tasted heavenly! As someone who can take a whole day drinking just one drink, l'll tell you right now that it only took me a few minutes to finish my milk tea. I also got to try the white champaca oat milk latte and their jasmine milk tea which were also delicious but so far nothing beats the matcha milk tea. Moving on to the actual space, it's a small milk tea shop. There's a few tables and chairs to sit at but even if you were lucky enough to snag a seat, there's just way too many customers and too much chaos going on to really sit down and enjoy your drink so if you were planning on going there to sit and catch up with a friend or to maybe do some studying, I would recommend picking up a milk tea there instead and then get a nice dessert at the Paris Baguette next door to pair your milk tea with! read more

Delicious unique floral milk teas. Gardenia, white champaca, and jasmine oat milk teas are all great. However, I did notice Gardenia wasn't very strong in flavor. White champaca and jasmine were noticeably more floral and earthier, so I'd opt for one of them next time. White champaca is my personal favorite and is a bit sweeter than jasmine, which is slightly earthier/more bitter. When you walk into the shop, you can smell a hint of floral scents in the air, which is nice. However, it's definitely much weaker than the one in Toronto (where we first discovered this shop), so we were a bit disappointed with the lack of an "authentic" smell in the air. We came here on a Wednesday night. It was busy. All the tables in the seating area were taken. There are two kiosk machines. You can order from the kiosk machine or at the register. I ordered the snowy jasmine which is topped with jasmine whipped cream and sweetened roasted pecans. You can pick the level of sugar and ice which is perfect.
