It is a chain, but I am glad this new store is in Chicago. Nothing new, more long lines. The interior when you walk in is modern looking, you don't see the kitchen (where they make the drinks) you only see a small opening in the wall where they put the drinks on. Seems like bubble tea chains are popping up all over Chinatown, and this is the latest one. The line wasn't too long when I went. It was well moderated and went quickly. The interior is really beautiful and luxurious. I heard that many of their flavors ran out during opening but I didn't have that issue. My friend recommended the cloud jasmine tea, and I enjoyed it! Boba was fresh and good consistency. Pricing is consistent with many of the other new chains... About $8-10 per drink, so not cheap. Overall, it's good to have more options in the area! read more

The hype was real for this bubble tea shop that recently opened in Chinatown. I saw on social media that the lines were wrapped around the block and that customers were waiting for 3+ hours. The first time I went in on a Tuesday after opening weekend and there was a wait for about 10 people around 11:30AM. I was disappointed to learn that 6 of the popular drinks were already sold out and the shop had only opened 30 minutes! I ended up getting the crisp grape boom. It was icy and sweet, perfect for the summer time heatwave. My second and 3rd times, I was very fortunate to not have to wait and I was able to get the two drinks I really wanted. The coconut mango boom is my favorite. The mango puree was fresh and sweet and the sago was chewy. The best part of the drink was definitely the silky coconut pudding. I've also ordered the kale boost tea. The tea is sweet and it doesn't taste like kale at all. I was pleasantly surprised by the chia seeds that is in the drink. The cup is also reusable too. Very good. Grape bloom had chopped up, crisp grapes - very refreshing. Didn't taste super artificially sweet. Matcha latte was creamy, strong matcha flavor, and not too bitter. I've had the mango bloom before in a different location, my friends loved it so it sounds consistent. Jasmine milk tea was solid and also consistent No issues with service. I was here on Friday morning. There was no line, but they were out of all the matcha drinks and fruit drinks. They only had milk tea. I was disappointed because I saw a lot of people lining up during their opening weekend. I really wanted to try their drinks. I ended up ordering Pistachio Cloud Jasmine Coconut and the Yingde Cheese milk tea. They were both ok just normal milk tea. The decor was nice, but I don't think you would want to sit for long to enjoy it, like at a cafe. Service was fast. I would come back to try their matcha and other drinks. HeyTea, at this time, is the newest boba spot in Chinatown, so we had to give it a try! I really enjoyed the coconut mango boom since it was sweet, refreshing, and packed with toppings. I definitely want to try their milk teas or matcha drinks since they seemed very appealing and popular as well. The service was decent, but I just wish there was a way to look at the menu while waiting in line or be able to order at a kiosk. You get to the cashier and have to look at the menu right then and there. The ambiance was very simple and modern; you don't actually see them making the drinks since it just comes out of a tiny window on the side. I don't really get the hype. Waiting 3 hours for this would be tough for me personally... Cloud Longjing Milk Tea (+ Coconut Jelly): This was easily my favorite drink. The matcha foam on top was delicious, and the Longjing tea had a unique flavor that I hadn't tried before. It tasted distinct from the usual tea options and was really enjoyable. 9/10 Matcha Cloud Jasmine: This one was just okay. I prefer a stronger jasmine flavor, like what I get at Molly Tea, so this tasted a bit lighter to me. Because of that, it came across as somewhat watered down, even though I don't think it actually was. 5/10 Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back unless there was a specialty drink that really caught my attention. Stopped by to try Heytea after they opened in Chicago. I was expecting an insanely long wait, but the line actually moved pretty quickly and was much more manageable than I thought. The interior was beautiful and had a clean, minimalist modern vibe that I really loved. It felt spacious and well-designed. We ordered the Crisp Grape Boom and Mango Cloud. The Crisp Grape Boom was refreshing and easy to drink, though the grapes themselves were a little on the sour side that day. The Mango Cloud was decent as well, but it wasn't particularly memorable. Overall, the drinks were solid and refreshing. I've had Heytea in China before, and I thought the drinks there were a tad better, but I'd still happily grab a drink here when I'm craving something refreshing. Oh how much Heytea has me on my toes...I love everything about it. We came in at a lucky time where there was no long line (waited about 2mins in line before ordering), and the staff were all so friendly! I was especially impressed how the staff was showing the price very clearly to me for each drink and how much the total would be. I wish they had their online ordering available with the app, but unfortunately since they are so new, they most likely have to wait until the hype gets a bit lower so staff wouldn't be too overwhelmed with orders. The interior is very nice! I love how they have a seating area away from the waiting area for drinks, and there were different seating options. But don't expect to stay here like a cafe since seats can get filled up quickly! We tried the Coconut Mango Boom and the Crispy Grape Boom. Both were so delicious and full of flavor. The Coconut Mango Boom was a nice creamy mango drink, similar to a Mango Lassi but more so with greater hints of coconut. I like how the Coconut Mango Boom had sago pearls too, so it was like dessert in a drink! The Crispy Grape Boom was such a refreshing drink. The grape flavoring had a well balanced level of sweetness and the little grape bits inside the drink made it feel more authentic to a fruit slushie. I especially loved how this was a slushie, so you could have that satisfying ice crunch each time you took a sip. I have always loved Heytea. I am so happy there is a spot in Chicago now! I've been so excited to try Hey Tea since all my friends always rave about it. It's only been in New York and California so when the first Chicago location opened in Chinatown, I knew I had to go. I went with a friend around 1:30 PM on a weekday (not grand opening day), they've been open for a few days. Parking in Chinatown is always a struggle. It's pretty much street parking only, so plan ahead or just take public transport. The inside is very different from your typical boba shop. It's minimal: stone walls, all gray and black tones, very clean. Seating is limited, maybe 10-15 spots max, so it's more of a grab and go situation. The drink making area / kitchen is hidden in the back. Bonus: the bathroom was super clean, single stall/private. When we got in line, there were maybe five people ahead of us. We were told that matcha, grape, AND mango drinks were all sold out. These are what they're known for. This wasn't even opening week, they'd already been open, so I feel like they should've anticipated the demand and stocked up. I was pretty disappointed because that was the whole reason I came, long drive from suburbs. We ended up getting the pistachio cloud jasmine tea and the brown sugar boba. I like pistachio by itself. I like jasmine tea by itself. Together though? Not really my thing, but if that combo sounds good to you, go for it. The black sugar boba was good though. Overall, I left feeling a little let down just because of the stock situation, but I do think this place has potential. I'll definitely be back and hopefully they get their inventory together by then! TLDR: Super hyped, a little let down. Sold out of matcha, grape, and mango = big bummer. I don't think the longjing cheese milk tea I got was worth that wait or the price paid. The drink came in a regular sized cup but was ~$8 after tax. The quality of the tea was good--it felt most similar to Molly Tea if I had to compare boba shops (though HeyTea does not cool tiny straws that Molly has lol), but overall I think I like Chincha best in the area. Sleek and modern design but the layout makes it tight for large crowds. There isn't a lot of space to line up from the counter to the doorway so it gets really crowded around the entrance after a few people are lined up waiting to order and as people wait for their drinks. HeyTea is my favorite bubble tea shop in the US, but this location is too busy (the queue is over an hour long during weekends and holidays), and too new. They're out of all the drinks I want on the menu for two weeks now and so I just went with my second favorite, Jasmine Cloud Tea with light ice and no sugar. The cheese cloud is creamy and lightly sweetened. The tea is strong and frangrant. It's a great drink and I hope it can get to a place where we can place online orders like in NYC and avoid the wait. However, the Supreme Brown Sugar Boba Milk Tea was amazing and honestly one of the best milk teas I've ever had. Because of that, I'll probably come back again to try some of their other drinks. Suggestion: I also think they should stock up on their ingredients and popular menu items more often. We went on 5/28 (Thursday) at 11:07am. Waited in line for 25 minutes only to find out that they were out of anything matcha, grape, and mango. That ruled out all of the drinks that we waited months to try. No signage on the door or announcements while queueing that they've been out of stock. Mobile app also did not allow pick up orders or have any notifications that they're low on inventory. I asked for the sweetest drink available and was pointed to the pistachio cloud jasmine coconut. The employee handing out drinks literally tossed the straw onto the counter and immediately turned away to chat with coworkers. I literally have the note on the drink saying I need it to be packed and it's not. Seeing lots of people complaining about their service but it's always the same employees and even the new ones are rude. What I don't understand is that there are so many reviews complaining about the customer service, yet it's always the same employees working the front counter. Even the new employees at the front seem just as rude, so nothing ever seems to improve. The drinks are good, but the quality control is inconsistent. You never know if you're going to get the same drink twice. I sometimes crave their drinks, but then I remember how rude the staff are, and it completely kills the urge to go.
