Five levels! You heard that right! This Starbucks Reserve Roastery occupies more than 35,000 square feet, making it the largest Starbucks in the world. We stood in a fast moving line to enter this behemoth of a coffee shop, restaurant, bar and more. I was initially overwhelmed with the crowds of people and the options to eat and drink at this place. I was here with our group of 5 and we needed to maneuver between the multiple levels and lines of people here. It was an adventure and be ready to spend some time here to receive the full experience. We secured a table and stood in line to place our orders of coffee, matcha, savory and sweet delectables and more. Everything was delicious and service was fast and efficient here. Each level had its focus points. Too many to write about. I recommend checking out the website @www.starbucksreserve.com for details. Definitely a place to bookmark if you're visiting Chicago.

Brown Sugar Hojicha Tea Latte (Oat Milk)

Starbucks Reserve was high on my must-visit list for my Chicago trip! I've been to their Seattle location, so I was looking forward to coming here with friends. It didn't disappoint! We arrived on a weekend afternoon. It was super busy, but they usually are. The restaurant has four floors, each offering something different. The first floor is all take-out. Our group ended up on the second floor. There's a full bar, caffeinated drinks, pastries, savory items, and so much more. You need to experience it yourself! Service was fine. It's a bustling spot, so you don't get much interaction with staff, and you receive a buzzer for your items. I got their seasonal drink, the Iced Brown Sugar Hojicha Tea Latte with Oat Milk. This drink was really good! It was sweet, slightly roasty, and creamy. It was the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. My friends also got their seasonal drinks and enjoyed them. They also got some merchandise too. If I were hungrier, I would've tried their food. If you're a Starbucks drinker, visiting the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Chicago is worth a visit! There are only a few in the country. Find it off Michigan Ave. in the Magnificent Mile.

Salmon & Cream Cheese Toast: Seeded sourdough crust was HARD. Tough to chew. Don't recommend.

Came in at around 12-1pm on a Tuesday and it was pretty busy, especially on the 2nd floor cafe. Lots of people were trying to get lunch and the 2nd floor had the largest selection of food. The line looked long and took about 15 mins to get to the front. It helps if everyone knows what they want, but a lot of people didn't and took their time at the register. It would've been great if they had 2 registers to take orders. Idk why they don't do that. It'd be much more efficient. Some people have a million questions and take forever at the register, as if there's nobody waiting in line behind them, and some people take less than a minute to order. It's really infuriating to watch when you've been standing in line for what feels like forever. A second register seems like an easy solution to cut wait times. If you know what you want and it's available on a different floor, I recommend getting your food and drinks on a different floor. The 2nd floor was, by far, the most packed and longest wait. You can look on their website to see what's available on each floor. It could save you a lot of time if you plan ahead a little. It took about 15-20 minutes for our food and drinks to be ready and finding seating wasn't exactly easy. People pounced on open seats. If you're in a time crunch, I wouldn't recommend this as a place to get a quick bite. At least not on the 2nd floor. There are food options on other floors that would probably be quicker, just not as many options. Overall, it was a fun place to check out. Decent food and drinks, depending on what you get. MARGHERITA FOCACCIA: Soft, fluffy, and delicious! PROSCIUTTO & FONTINA CROISSANT: Delicious! Good balance of flavors. I felt like I could taste everything. Good ratio of ingredients. WARNING: This croissant uses "prosciutto cotto", which is just cooked ham, not the typical cured, raw-like "prosciutto crudo" that comes on charcuterie boards. It mentions the specific prosciutto on the website menu, but not on the plaques in person. Feels a little deceptive, honestly. Everyone thinks of prosciutto crudo when you hear prosciutto. This should've just been labeled as ham. I wasn't aware of this and was very confused when I got what looked like regular cooked ham slices in my croissant. It was still delicious, but if you want the raw-like prosciutto crudo, they use that in the herb croissant. I would've tried to ask for a substitution if I had known, but I'm not sure if they would even do it. Worth a try to ask if you care like I do though. SALMON & CREAM CHEESE TOAST: The bread is a seeded sourdough. Idk if I would've gotten it if I had known that, so fair warning to seed haters like me. The toast crust was also HARD. Like hard to eat. My jaw hurt from chewing it. The center bread was fine though. The amount of salmon and the bites aside from the crust were good, but it didn't make up for the unpleasant crust. I regretted getting this. And I usually love smoked salmon and cream cheese dishes. TIRAMISU LATTE (hot): Almost dessert-like, but we also asked for it to be extra sweet. You could taste a lot of bitterness, but it was still delicious and sweet. BROWN SUGAR HOJICHA TEA LATTE (iced): It reminded me of boba milk tea without the boba! I asked for it to be extra sweet though, so idk how it tastes normally. I liked it! PUMPKIN SPICE ESPRESSO MARTINI: Good for pumpkin spice lovers! You could clearly taste the pumpkin spice and espresso martini equally. It was well-balanced, but pricey.

Coffee madhouse! As if caffeine is not enough, once you step into this 4 story massive Starbucks, you'll be amazed, excited, confused, overwhelmed, impressed and filled with many emotions. Great attraction that's a must visit for all coffee lovers if you're visiting or in Chicago. Each floor is amazing in its own its own way allowing you to explore everything Starbucks has to offer and more. As a Starbucks on steroids, be prepared for long lines and wait times to get in and to purchase items. They offer an expanded menu with great food items. Coffee from around the world. Coffee with a liquor twist. Huge roasting machines. Only wished there were more seating options around as the store is nicely decorated and organized, but limited seating compared to the massive crowd you'll likely face! Foot traffic can be better organized as it can be hectic inside with large crowds. A must visit as it's not your typical Starbucks and it'll be an amazing to experience.

Roasted squash focaccia and black sesame matcha

I was in the area this week for work so I had to check it out! The service was prompt. Their web menu said avo toast was available all day, but that wasn't accurate. Due to this I settled for the squash focaccia and it was tasty(although lukewarm). Seating is tight here, it was super busy even at like 5pm. I tried the black sesame matcha also. I did wander to each floor just to explore. Unfortunately their rooftop terrace was closed for renovation!

I LOVED my pistachio croissant. So many specialty coffees to choose from, but perhaps my palette is not experienced enough to taste the difference between the coffee here vs the regular Starbucks locations. Service was great. Ambiance was impressive, especially the grand spiral staircase at the center. This happened to be the closest Starbucks to my hotel so I was happy to check it out. But, I would not go out of my way to make it here.

9.7.2025 1 French 75 and (2) Starbucks Souvenir Cups later, this place was absolutely amazing !! It's nestled along the magnificent mile and super busy! Great food and beverage options, classes to make cocktails and more offered! The decor is Starbucks Reserve trendy. Certainly picture worthy. Each floor serves a purpose. I enjoyed the oooo's and ahhh's of everything this place had to offer. My French 75 was pretty great !! Slow sip worthy. The atmosphere was a vibe. The novelty store section was great! A lot of everything associated w Starbucks Reserve for purchase, often in different styles. I look forward to returning back very soon !!

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery is worth visiting for the building and overall experience, but timing makes a huge difference. I think if you are a huge Starbucks fan even if it is busy it is for you. I first explored it on my own around 9:00 a.m. I did not order anything, but I had enough space to walk around, see the different areas, and take photos. The building itself is very cool and much more of an experience than a standard Starbucks. My partner and I tried to return on Saturday afternoon for the espresso martini flight, but the entire place was far too crowded to enjoy. The lines were long, there were people everywhere, and we ultimately left without ordering. The specialty bar drinks looked like they could be fun, but corporate coffee is not worth fighting that kind of crowd. I would recommend visiting early for the architecture, displays, and experience. I would avoid the afternoon unless you are prepared to wait and deal with a packed building.

I recommend arriving early -- or in the early afternoon to avoid the crowds. As the largest Starbucks in the world, there's plenty of foot traffic coming through. There's 3 floors -- each dedicated to a different experience. I wouldn't wait more than 10-15 minutes if I were to come back again; and I definitely wouldn't wait outside. I had the hojicha latte and I was a bit disappointed with both the color and the taste. I wish the tea flavor was much stronger. I didn't get any food (not because it didn't look good but because I saw a few flies in the cases, and that put me off completely). Seating is first come first serve so if you're with another person, it'd probably be wise to scope out the seating after placing your order.

Had a very fun experience trying alcoholic Starbucks drinks. This was so worth it and we didn't end up disappointed that we came. Super cool location with many floors and exclusive merch.

Matcha latte black sesame cold foam

I must have gone at a random time because that awful around the block line was gone. I waited outside for less than 5 mins and then I was in! I told myself if the line was long I wouldn't go. I got in line for the first floor to go area. You scan the QR code to check out the menu. People are busy walking around trying to buy merch to take home. The upper floors are for sit down service. The drink I ordered was so good. It was a matcha latte with black sesame cold foam. I think it's only served there because I have looked at the menu here at home and it's not there. I'm still thinking about this drink and going to look for it at a local coffee shop to see if it has something close to it.

We've been to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Tokyo, so admittedly the bar was set pretty high for us! While the Chicago location is massive and impressive, it just didn't quite measure up to our experience in Tokyo. The service wasn't as fast, the food wasn't quite as good, and the overall look and atmosphere didn't have that same wow factor. That being said, we were definitely glad we experienced it. Our travel buddies who went to Tokyo with us joined us here as well, which made it fun to compare the two locations. There are some unique coffee creations and food items specific to the Chicago Roastery, and the exclusive merchandise is really cool and gives you something you won't find at a typical Starbucks. For us, it was probably a one-time experience, but I would absolutely recommend it to any Starbucks fan. It's worth seeing just for the size, concept, unique menu and merchandise. One big tip: get there early! The lines can get long, and arriving early makes the experience much more enjoyable. Tokyo still wins for us, but Chicago is definitely worth checking out at least once!

I wasn't sure what to expect at the World's Largest Starbuck's but when I went there, I was amazed and impressed. Very interesting with the very futuristic decor, the 4 very different levels and the spaciousness. We spent an hour there because after looking at everything, we had to have a Starbucks coffee and a small dessert and relax. The wonderful smells get to you and you can't leave. The 1st floor offers a quick coffee and bite to go plus merchandise. The 2nd foor offers a cafe & bakery with goodies freshly made in their open kitchen. You can get sandwiches, pastries, breakfast, snaks, coffee , tea. That's were we stopped to eat. The 3rd floor offers different coffee creation to deepen your knowledge about coffee. The 4th floor offers coffee-inspired cocktails, beer, wine and sweet bites. We were there in June on a weekday and there was a long line out the door and a half a block back but it does move quickly. Inside it is packed with people but it was pretty orderly. We went to all 4 floors by escalator. There are lines for the restrooms also, as you can imagine. Some people were impatient and it was awkward being around them. I don't care much for huge crowds but sometimes there is nothing you can do about it. The Reserve is an experience that you want to have. We enjoyed it. You can buy delicious pastries and great souvenirs there. Their decor was unlike any of their regular stores. A must see. Bring money, lol.

Starbucks Reserve Roastery Chicago Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Starbucks Reserve Roastery Chicago

What time is the best time go to Starbucks roasters?

I used to live in Chicago and my friends would always want to go. The least crowded time I've seen is after 7pm.

Do they sell a decent amount of the straw type tumblers here or just a few select ones?

They continue to get a nice selection seasonally.

When is the best time to visit if we don't want to deal with the crowd?

Early morning, before 10 am or at 8 am when they open. There's no line or wait time. After 10 it can be very crowded and they limit the customers entry.

Do have any hard to find or exotic tumblers, or coffee mugs?

Local to Chicago yes, I didn't see any others that stood out.

Are the pastries and food prepared fresh in house?

Absolutely! This is not your neighborhood Starbucks, where the pastries come out of packaging before being warmed. Food is prepped fresh and on-site, and often within viewing. The ovens on the second floor crank out fresh-baked breads like a major…

Can you use partner discounts here?

What time does the cocktail bar open?

How long does it take to wait in line to get in on a weekend?

We haven't seen lines to get in for quite awhile

Are the upper floors open yet? They've been closed the past couple times I've tried to visit.

All floors were open when we visited in early December. Not sure if that's still the case with Omicron.

Do they accept reservations?

You may need reservation only for the rooftop bar. But otherwise, it is not a place where you'd need to make a reservation. On busier days they control how many people they let in but it is always first come first served.

Are they open for dine in yet?

Yes! As of today, May 7, limited seating indoor is available.

The check marks above are confusing it says No In Person visits but yes to In Person dining. Will this change by June 2021, which is when I will be there to visit? I am hoping by June, Chicago is in a better place where they can allow for it.

It's May 7, 2021 and they just opened limited seating inside--today!!

Is dine-in an option yet? I know many places have opened up for limited dine in, in the Chicagoland area. Thanks!

No, I just went in yesterday and it is not opened for dine in yet.

Can you dine now?

Not as of last week, but hopefully soon.

Is it open today for dine in (oct. 30)?

There is no longer dine in options in the city of Chicago as of oct 30th ..

What are the updated Covid guidelines? What's the capacity limit? Can you eat/drink inside seated or do you have to take to go? (Posted November 2020 for future readers) thank you!

At that moment, due to current health guidelines relating to COVID, there aren't any that apply for capacity, inside/outside seating or social distancing

Do you need a reservation to sit on the rooftop?

Yes you do need reservations for the rooftop.

Does still have lines to get in?

It didn't when I went on Feb 15 about 7:30 pm. But there were still the line guides outside. Maybe it was just too cold.

Is there a line?

There is usually a line but it moves very fast. Early in the day or late at night there might not be one.

What is the lien now?

GO NOW!!! No line

Shoutout to Maddy for being a great host! Recommend you ask for her area! Good food! My wife had the Belgian Waffles with cinnamon, strawberries, and Mango, Pineapple, & orange drink. I was a little surprised that the cheddar was white cheddar since back home I'm used to yellow, but it was good nonetheless! The price was fair, especially for such a good meal, but the service was by far my favorite part of the experience. Our waitress, Maddy, recommended the waffles, and honey, I am SO glad I listened! She was absolutely right about the streusel on top. Chef's kiss!! And trust me, I'm not usually a waffle girl, but I sure was today! We're in town celebrating my hubby's birthday, and Maddy remembered! She made sure he got to pick out a pastry, and those little thoughtful touches mean so much to me. It's one thing to have good food, but it's another to have someone make you feel welcomed, remembered, and taken care of. Whenever we're back in Chicago, we will absolutely be returning, especially to this location! It is so cute inside and out and CLEAN! I love seeing a clean bathroom in an establishment so kudos!
