I was in the area for a yoga class, and Oud Coffee & Cafe was recommended to me by the instructor and students. First thing that drew me in was the glass case of baked goods. There was a variety of sweets and savory items, and everything looked delicious. The banana bread pudding cinnamon roll and oreo cinnamon roll looked insanely good. I didn't have an appetite for food, so I will have to come back. I appreciated their expansive latte menu. They had a whole lot of specialty lattes to choose from. I went with an iced vanilla rose latte. When I stopped by around 9:45am, I found the place was busy. That said, I got my order in less than 5 minutes. Now the moment of truth... the latte was a fine vanilla latte, but where was the rose? Didn't get the flavor at all. read more

Oud is a really interesting drink and dessert cafe! The only reason I took off a star is (1) it's super crowded all the time, i.e. no tables available in the middle of a random weekday afternoon; I ended up sitting with some strangers who had an extra chair -- they were nice though! And (2) they give a 20% discount to students and despite me showing my grad ID at checkout, they said they'd give me the discount but didn't -- I didn't realize it until after I paid and looked at the receipt, and when I asked about it they said they couldn't do anything about it. Oh well. Re: the food and drinks, I had the Oud latte which was just fine, tasted like a pretty standard sweet latte without any additional flavor. What DID surprise me very much was the saffron milk cake -- this was VERY unique, and VERY delicious. I love floral flavors and the saffron gave it a distinct taste that I find slightly floral, and quite unlike any cake I've had. It was almost like the consistency of tres leches (which I also love), but the cream on top has a little more substance/firmness than that, as does the cake itself. The slice was $10 but it was pretty dense. I'd planned to just eat half of it but it was so tasty I finished it! I would come back to this cafe the next time I'm in Chicago just to have this saffron cake again. They had a lot of other unique and interesting desserts as well but I couldn't try that much sweet stuff at once. With a plethora of delicious-looking Palestinian baked goods, Oud was high on my cafe bucket list for a while. I was super excited to stop by recently, but unfortunately this experience missed the mark for me. It's usually pretty packed and on the loud side, so something to keep in mind if you're banking on snagging a spot or getting some work done. The staff seemed a bit stressed, but it was more understandable given the steady crowd. I ordered the lemon berry scone and a drip coffee. The scone was $7 and arrived ice cold as if it had been pulled out of the freezer to thaw. It was dry, unsweet, and had the overwhelming flavor of freezer burn. The coffee was a bit watery as well. I couldn't eat more than a couple of bites before tossing the pastry. $14 later, I left hungry and in search of another shop to satisfy the pastry craving. Given the other positive reviews and interesting looking menu offerings, I hope this visit was a fluke and may give this spot a round two in the future if my wallet is feeling lucky. read more

My favorite Palestinian cafe in Chicago! The interior is decorated beautifully with traditional Palestinian art and decor. There is usually music playing which depending on the day could be Arabic music, instrumentals, or popular music today. There is free WiFi and lots of tables to sit at. The food and drinks are 10/10. There are a lot of food options reading from breakfast sandwiches and wraps to salads. There are also items that are Palestinian or Palestinian inspired that are very good. The pastry chest is beautiful and I always try something different everytime I god. You can get cakes, tarts, cheesecakes and more. They also sell Dubai chocolate bars which are the best I've had compared to some other places. The lattes are good. My favorite is the Spanish latte and the Oud latte. Been hearing about Oud and had to try while I was in Chicago! First off, Oud lattes are popular here and are an espresso milk based drink with cardamom and fresh mint leaves. Would give this a 4/5, felt like the depth of the flavor fell short against the milk in the drink. I would try one of their flavored seasonal lattes if I wanted something different here, but if it's your first time go for the Oud latte. Henry, our barista, was awesome. We were hoping to try the dark chocolate raspberry covered date, but they had supposedly run out. But after a couple minutes of thinking, Henry went to the back and brought back a box where he found exactly one left which we got to try! Amazing service!! The date itself was underwhelming, but worth trying if you're around. The dessert that's a must try here is the creme brulee croissant, 5/5- served warm, crisp! Slid by here around 3pm on a Wednesday. It was lowkey kinda full of people working late or needing an extra boost to get through the rest of the day. We ordered the: Oud coffee iced. Maple cardamom latte. The maple won. Both weren't sweet but the cardamom had a deeper flavor profile and as much as I love caffeine, I want a rich experience in which I can taste what it's being mixed with. Both were iced and 20oz which ran about 7 dollars for each one. Also ended up with a white pistachio cake which cost about ten bucks. It wasn't my favorite but the table liked it. This was one of the better coffee spots I've tasted in the city. So relative to the others, I gave it a four star. Although the cashier serving us did not seem to be happy to be there. Plenty of seating inside. Maybe enough for 30 and another 10-15 outside in their small patio on the sidewalk. read more

Oud gets busy on weekends, so if you want to do some work, I recommend bringing noise-cancelling headphones and coming in with the possibility of waiting for seats to open up. Gave Oud a visit after my sister strongly recommended it to me and I AM A FAN! I love a good cafe, but I feel like it's so hard to find one that also has a good working space and Oud managed to master both! The ambience was super cozy, with floral touches throughout, but also spacious enough to bring a laptop or book. Food and service were equally incredible. The staff members were very sweet and helpful (thank you Noura- I hope I spelled that correctly), and the food was so so so delish. Here's what I ordered (literally loved everything which is pretty rare): - Maple Cardamom Latte w Almond Milk: Loved that these were the two immediate flavors I tasted when I took my first sip. Not too sweet if its the only thing you're consuming (Oud by default uses less sugar in their drinks which I love), however it may be too sweet if paired with other yummy treats. - Tuscan Chicken Ciabatta (jaw was basically on floor. SO flavorful and creamy, with a delish pesto flavor) - Rose Milk Cake (as a baker, I strongly believe soaked cakes are an elite form of dessert, and this was such a unique take on it. Fragrant, soaked (personally would maybe prefer a lil more soaking), and perfectly rose milk flavored. - Dubai Pistachio Milk Cake- TEXTURAL HEAVEN! Think Dubai bar (crunchy pistachio butter + chocolate) on top and soaked chocolate cake on the bottom. I was afraid this would be too sweet, but the soaked cake was so mild and not overpowering. - Focaccia Breakfast Sandwich (vegetarian): SO SO GOOD- eggs, avo, chipotle mayo, greens). I love this cafe!! I've been a few times and we usually have to wait for people to leave to get a seat. It's very popular on the weekends so keep that in mind if you're trying to come with a group. If you're able to find a spot tho the ambiance is great to sit and chat or get some work done. I usually get a chai latte or a decaf latte here and they are both always perfect. The first thing I did when I landed in Chicago was look for Palestinian-owned businesses. After this year of lifestreamed Nakba, it's really amazing that Palestinians have taught the world so much about who, what, and why Palestine will always have liberation in their DNA. Plus Chicago has the largest Palestinian community, but because I couldn't make it to Bridgeview, I had to get my slice of Lil' Falasteen downtown. Luckily, Oud Coffee was close to my hotel so I walked over one morning and was so happy to see all the things that remind me of the Levant. Wifi is strong and service is quick. Even during Ramadan, there were already people inside doing work or ordering to-go. I enjoyed a hot honey lavender coffee, and as a primarily tea drinker, I thought it was on the sweeter side, but very calming. I'm allergic to nuts, but their namesake pistachio cardamom latte would've been the one I would've liked to try. I didn't get any of the baked goods, but they looked yummy. I can definitely see Oud being a great place to study or get some work done, there's tons of seating options and outlets. Music isn't loud, and you know you're in good company. We came her at 10 on a Saturday, it was very busy but we were able to get a seat. The line was long but it went relatively quick. I got a cold brew (gives a Turkish coffee / Arab coffee flavors). It was strong and the large is quite big. I also got a chicken Caesar wrap. It was good, not traditional, it was pressed, warm chicken, lettuce (maybe some spinach), Caesar dressing (very good), crunchy croutons, and a plain wrap. It was very well seasoned. I enjoyed it. My partner got a ginger turmeric latter and enjoyed it, as well as the focaccia breakfast sandwich (circular sandwich, very cheesy, said it was good). We got our child a bagel with cream cheese. There were no other children inside but it was a child friendly place. We also got a baklava tray which was incredible. It's a cool place with "unique" options for coffee and pastry in River North. The people working there were nice, but everything is just okay at the price they are charging. When I went it was $15 for the Dubai Chocolate and $8 for a pastry, which I would say is a bit outrageous. The people who work here are so sweet! 2nd favorite thing here is their Dubai chocolate bars! Now let's get into the bad. The Dubai chocolate bar is $12.49 it's so good but so expensive! I read in the yelp reviews that people also love the Dubai cookie. It was a big no for me. Every time I've come here, I've tried a new drink and unfortunately the drinks are just not good. The most recent time, I tried the matcha marshmallow cold foam top. The matcha flavor was so light and you can tell it's not a good quality matcha that they use. Unfortunately, I think I won't be frequenting this shop anymore. But come and try it for yourself.
