We enjoy grabbing sacks of whole bean coffee while traveling and after reviewing their selections online this made our list. Two sacks stuck out the most with our palate. NIGHT SHIFT: -- online tasting/sniffing notes: full body; deep chocolate; malty notes; dark chocolate; peanut butter; caramel; toasted marshmallow -- for me I noticed this more on the nose than the mouth, and especially when I "buried my beak" in the grounds after brewing -- the taste is nutty, smooth, nothing sour or bitter to speak of, caramel and light PB with some dark choc coming through...marshmallow only on sniff I believe RATING = A COLOMBIA (house drip): -- sack to be reviewed at a later date, too many sacks in the house right now STAFF were polite and efficient. A great spot for coffee! I stopped by here twice during the visit to Chicago. I love the oatmeal and the miso latte. I also bought say that the walnut coffee cake was divine ! Egg and cheese sandwich was a bit too greasy for my liking, also lacking in any flavor, the top of cookie was a bit too, baking soda heavy for my taste. While on a trip to Chicago, I happened to walk past Big Shoulders Coffee--and ended up doubling back because I had to try it. The place is adorable, with equally cute merch you can buy. They had some really fun flavor options, including a Horchata latte I'm still thinking about. I almost tried it, but the marshmallow latte won me over--and honestly, I'm glad it did. I was browsing yelp for coffee places near me and came across the toasted marshmallow latte and knew I needed to come here and try it. There is street parking and at 7:30am on a Thursday there was plenty available nearby. The interior is kind of small but there is seating with a number of tables. The bar is beautifully set up and you can watch the barista prepare your drink. The marshmallow on the latte was perfectly toasted and the latte itself did taste like toasted marshmallow but not too intense or artificial tasting. I also got the bacon cheddar scone which was also great. Nice and soft and the perfect size little bits of bacon. read more

Came here to grab a bag of beans as a Chicago souvenir and one of the famous Toasted Marshmallow lattes. Neither disappointed. Some lattes hide the flavor of coffee too much, but in this latte you could taste the quality of the coffee but also the sweet and creaminess you want in a latte. Took the beans home (Night Shift), ground them up and we have been loving a cup of it every morning. The employees were really friendly and it was a nice spot to drink my latter while I had some time to kill. Around 9:30 on a Monday and they were already out of the cheddar scones. Big shoulders coffee on state st is a small coffee shop with big coffee flavor. My friends and I came here to try the marshmallow latte and blueberry muffin. The atmosphere was very cute but very small with no more than 6 little tables in there. But the service was friendly and quick. You could taste the quality of the espresso in the latte and I loved the roasted marshmallow they put on top. However if you didn't tell me this latte was marshmallow flavored, I don't think I would have guessed. It was sweet but the marshmallow flavor was lacking a little. The blueberry muffin was good but nothing spectacular. I will have to come back and try another coffee and a breakfast sandwich! I went by while walking to the bank. Wanted to grab a drink and snack. It was busy but not too crowded. I was able to place my order quickly. I ordered an iced chai latte and breakfast burrito. The drink was ready much faster than the burrito. I thought I was going to be gone with my tea before hand. It was good and flavorful. The burrito overall was okay. It was suppose to have eggs, Turkey sausage and cheese but it seemed like there weee other things in it like salsa or beans. I did enjoy it. BE WARNED - they make the tea WAY too hot here and it actually burned my tongue. Had to return the Hibiscus Spice tea . It's actually dangerous how hot they are serving the tea here - even after they had steeped it , it was insanely hot How was someone supposed to drink and enjoy that tea ? It would have taken like a half hour to cool down. I actually have an ice cube in my mouth now. It's dangerously hot tea. My friend did enjoy his Cortado and his Pumpkin muffin which was nice . My mom got an almond milk iced chai and I got a cold brew with oat milk and vanilla. I was tempted to get the marshmellow latte but they did let me know that it's just a vanilla latte with a toasted marshmellow on top so I got the cold brew instead. We both really enjoyed our drinks! I was able to get a window seating which helped mellow me out to get down to studying. The street view was pleasant and good change of pace from staring at a screen. It looked like a small place but there was a lot of room. The window seating was great for long sitting as it had multiple food holds and rest to help keep active or adjust the body.
