Overpriced. Based on the advertised images and description, I was expecting much more. The food mediocre and so was the tea. Nothing that was extraordinary that was worthwhile. The service was impeccable and so was ambiance-elegant and peaceful. They had someone playing piano but it was not for long.

A very merry unbirthday to me Had the most amazing tea experience that was Alice in Wonderland themed (which is my favorite movie of all time) and I just want to go back and relive this over again! The second you walk in the ambience is incredible and the service was really sweet! We started off with champagne, the tables were decorated so nicely, you just felt like it was going to be a great tea experience from the start! The only thing you need to choose is the tea which I went with the mad hatter (of course) my sister chose the fruity paradise, both teas were very tasty. The rest of the menu the chef chooses, we had potions to drink, shortbread cookies with jam that came as bubbles, then the food was very delicious the savory and sweet were just amazing to devour, we were even surprised with scones that we didn't notice but we got to enjoy them with the butter and jam that was on the table. Overall, this was a very high tea experience that was amazing and I would love to have the opportunity to do this again! :)

We had a lovely time at the Defying GraviTea! The food, elixers, teas and bits and bobs were delightful! We also enjoyed the champagne and cocktails. We did wait almost 20 minutes to be served and were sitting staring hungrily at our lovely water glasses for quite some time. We had a table for 8 and there were other large parties there making it pretty loud. When the harp player was playing that helped buffer loud carrying voices, but the sound does really carry. If you are looking for a whimsical tea, this delivers! We were surprised that the decor hadn't been updated to fit the Wicked tea theme.

There are lots of hotels that do high tea but few that do an outstanding one. Whatever time of the year you go, the Pavilion will never disappoint. From the moment you walk into the restaurant you are greeted with beautiful decor and staff that cater to your every need. We tried out their Wicked themed afternoon tea. The offerings were outstanding from the choices of tea to the food. Normally, there's always something that I don't fancy. Not with this offering. Interesting, tasty and the outstanding wait staff only add to the positive experience. It isn't cheap but it was worth every penny.

One does so adore when an establishment recognizes that a hat is not mere decoration, but declaration. At the very threshold I was met by the most attentive door staff, who immediately divined my purpose--afternoon tea, of course! It was as though my attire whispered my intentions before I uttered a word. I was soon conducted into the Pavilion, a chamber adjoining a bustling lobby. From my vantage by the window--overlooking the ever-shifting waters of the Chicago River--I could both survey the world and remain delightfully cocooned in calm. Only a handful of tables partook of the ceremony that day, and thus the room felt like a hidden sanctuary amidst the din of downtown. My server, most amiable, guided me through the menu. I selected the Imperial Earl Grey, which revealed itself in splendid bergamot tones, subtle yet commanding. Alas, the cream I requested was long delayed, and by the time it arrived my tea had cooled. Still, I discovered that the Earl Grey required no adornment--it was, in truth, lovelier without. Alongside this, a sparkling rosé was included, light and charming, and I treated myself further to an Aperol Spritz, which lent a festive air to the affair. The savories arrived as though painted by the hand of a gardener-artist--so pretty I hesitated to disturb them. The Strawberry Fields, layered upon raisin bread, struck a surprising harmony of sweet and savory; the Lily Pad was delicate perfection; and the crab toast just bold enough without being overpowering. The English Garden was quite flavorsome, though it required a knife and fork--a slightly inelegant arrangement for tea service. As for the Evergreen, it offered a lovely tart crust and fine gouda, yet the asparagus and companions seemed shy, unwilling to sing as they ought. Then, the grand spectacle: the Tulip Garden. A cage of blossoms enveloped in curling fog, conjured by dry ice, like a vision from a dream. Within, a tulip of chocolate, decadent and rich. A most dramatic centerpiece, worthy of applause! As for the sweets: the Rose Macaron was unabashedly floral, perfume and sugar entwined--delightful for those with the palate for such things (and I do). The Battenburg Cake, a classic, was pleasing in its raspberry and white chocolate layers. The Daisy, unexpectedly a panna cotta rather than a cake, was a revelation--silken and refreshing. The scones, however, were merely adequate, and I found myself unenchanted by the buttermilk. Several dainties I carried home in a box, to be savored later. My particular favorites? The Strawberry Fields, the Lily Pad, the Battenburg, and the lovely Daisy. In sum: a most enchanting afternoon, though with opportunities for refinement. The tea cooled too swiftly (a warmer or second pot would not go amiss), and the Pavilion itself, while pleasant, could have been adorned with blooms and greenery to reflect its collaboration with the Botanic Garden. A pity, for such décor would have elevated the entire affair. Thus, I must declare: 3.5 stars for the tea, 4 for the service, and a gracious bow for the spectacle. Yours in tea and tulips, The Baroness of Ravenswood Manor

Great service, delicious sandwiches and scones, and nice view. Loved the harp player! However, the dessert/sweets were disappointing and the ambience was more low-key than expected, which could be a plus or minus depending on your preference.

I brought my parents to the Pavilion for Afternoon Tea, and it was a nice experience! Just note that you make reservations and pay in advance. Their tea selection includes Gyokuro Asahi, Cassis, Organic Pear Tree, Jasmine Pearl, High Mountain Oolong, Imperial EArl Grey, English Breakfast, Darjeeling, Amour, and Lapsang Su Chong, as well as offerings of tea blends, herbal tea, and infused tea. We opted for the Organic Pear Tree (an organic young hyson green tea with essence of ripe pears), the Silk Road Blend (white tea with aromatic jasmine flowers and pink whole Iranian rose-buds), and the Wedgwood Jasmine Green (jasmine green tea with fresh blossoms). Bites included savories, scones, and desserts, and we had some Veuve Cliquot champagne. Definitely for dessert-heavy, and I missed the tea sandwiches. There was a harpist that paid both classical and modern pop songs - she was great! Service was friendly and welcoming, but the handling of the food and the pouring of the tea was a little shaky. The hotel itself is modern, chic, and beautiful, and once you take the elevator to the Pavilion, there is a hostess who is ready to greet and seat you. A great spot for dates, get-togethers, or just to enjoy the views! Public garage parking and valet available. +located in the Langham +afternoon tea - advanced paid reservations required +live musician +public garage parking and valet available

This review is 5 stars for the gluten free experience of the Alice in wonderland high tea service, and it's about a 4.2 for the overall experience. I'll start with the latter: this is a beautiful tea experience perfect for kids and adults. It's really a lovely experience with exceptionally good service. It's reflected in the high price which I think is fair for the detail and care. I do think that the space could be more tailored to the Alice vibe. There are some amazing menu details which I'll get to, but they could do so much with lighting, decor, centerpieces, etc, which felt like I missed opportunity to take the whole thing up a notch. Incredibly, if you let them know you're gluten free when you make your reservation, you'll get an entirely customized menu and won't miss out on a thing. You'll have all your own items in the gluten free version. And they're quite tasty!!! The desserts especially are fantastic despite being gluten free. I was very impressed with how well prepared they were and how thoughtful they were about allergies. I don't think I'll have a reason to go back soon but I would recommend the tea service to anyone who's considering it.

Omg, who put less than 17 stars for this dining experience? I mean, definition of 5 stars. We had the most amazing time at chocolate tea today. And we were a super annoying table with a vegetarian, pescatarian and multiple allergies which we tried to downplay but our waiter/magician put on the front of his list. The food is amazeballs. Tea options so fun. Our 16yo guest - her birthday request - even got her own glass of sparkling non alcoholic wine which was fabulous according to us parents. No fancy grape juice here. The staff was on top of every single detail. And told the story of the meal with enthusiasm like it was their very first time. Issues? Yes. Too much food. Too much amazing food. We did take home a ginormous bag of creative treats which will take us at least a few days to finish. Maybe that is the cause for any less than a 5 star review... so much amazing food that you needed to carry it home in a shopping bag? Oh, lovely room. But it's the Langham, so duh. Need to pay in advance but trust me, it's going to be a way better value than what was charged to your card.

They have such beautiful ceiling decor, but unless you sit in the middle you don't get to experience the full view. The Tea Time experience was pretty but a tad overpriced - for $105 (per person) each person only gets three plates of small bites. I loved certain pieces from each plate such as the shrimp toast & pink swan, but other bites were just okay. Our waitress was lovely though - the food came out relatively quickly and she recommended their pear tea which was an amazing choice.

The place: Stunning. Gorgeously and meticulously decorated. You immediately are transported outside of the city. The harpist's notes permeated the air and we're incredibly pleasant. Service was attentive and helpful. The taste: for $170 a person (including 20% service charge and tax) I would expect to love everything. I think the portions were perfect. There was a puff as one of the first bites that was just a little lackluster - I believe it was a celery root related bite. Overall, the food was very good, somewhat innovative, but really the ambiance and service - those are hard to match. (To note, I've been to The Drake and The Peninsula, and I think I preferred the vibe here.) My face: I felt so fancy. $337 for two people. Mostly smiles, but also super zen, so went home and promptly took a nap.

Came here for some afternoon tea with an Alice and Wonderland theme. The service, food, and vibe was absolutely perfect!

Modern day tea party at its fanciest element. This tea time was extraordinary along side a variety of savory and sweet to enjoy. The dining room is very quiet and elegant so it's perfect for a weekend wind down. High ceilings, chandeliers, and five star service. Complimentary champagne as soon as you are seated too...Spoiled rotten! Our set incorporated an Alice in Wonderland theme. I recommend the Mango Oolong tea - it's golden color will make you feel like royalty !

savory bites; tasted old, lacked flavor & salt..which you need before enjoying mounds of sweetness to come.

Ask the Community - Pavilion at The Langham, Chicago

How to do you make a reservation for the high tea? Or is this only offered to hotel guest?

You can make reservations through Tock, search for High Tea Langham

For the first time this year we have moved our holiday tea to The Langham rather than the Lobby at the Peninsula. I have a daughter major health issues and with many food restrictions, wondering if they are as accommodating?

This shop totally wowed me. The variety of teas is…read moreincredible, and what surprised me is that they have many teas that aren't even visible on the shelves. For example, I was looking for a jasmine tea and didn't see any jasmine options displayed, so I asked about it, and they told me they have three different types. I asked for the strongest one, and they recommended the Royal Jasmine, and wow, I absolutely loved it. The flavor was intense, so I had to buy a bag to take home. I also love the fact that they sell tea by the cup. If you want to try several teas without committing to a full bag, you can simply buy a cup, which is such a thoughtful option.

After my companion greeted them they still did not respond but greeted the next patron, a white lady. Based on the prior yelp reviews I was very taken aback by this response. Will definitely spend my money with a business that can greet all customers. A very disappointing experience Edit - instead of being disappointed with my honest experience in your store you should be disappointed in your staff and take this opportunity to train and coach them. I'm sure you have cameras, I invite you to review them. May you have the day you deserve.
