While in the West Loop on a warm weekend I was craving a refreshing drink. I did a quick Yelp search and Matcha Cita came up. When I arrived I was amazed at how large the space was for a matcha shop. The counter to order was very long and there were plenty of tables of chairs available and they weren't cramped close to one another. The menu was located on the far back wall and the font was small so it was hard to look at the menu while ordering at the counter, but fortunately nobody was behind me in line while ordering. I ordered three drinks to try different things. First was the Pink Señorita with strawberry, pitaya, matcha, and coconut milk. Second was the Pistachio Honey Latte with pistachio, honey, and choice of matcha according to the menu, though I wasn't given a choice of matcha. Last was Bluetiful which included blueberry, blue spirulina, collagen, matcha, and vanilla almond milk. Pink Señorita was probably the more flavorful drink of the three although something about it the strawberry gave off an artificial taste. The Pistachio Honey Latte had a nice pistachio flavor that didn't overpower the matcha. Bluetiful was the least favorite drink since it didn't taste like anything at all; it had an interesting blue color but other than that it tasted like heavily diluted matcha with no hints of blueberry or vanilla almond milk or anything at all. All of these were ordered in 20 oz cups and I felt the price of $8.95 was a bit steep for each of the three, especially considering that the drinks didn't all taste quite as expected. By no means are the drinks from Matcha Cita authentic Japanese style matcha drinks, but they provide a bougie twist on classic matcha similar to other higher priced smoothie and juice shops. I did notice it was unsanitary for the barista to touch the garbage bag behind the counter as if she was about to throw out the trash, take my order at the register, and then start making the drinks without washing her hands, but I didn't want to make a scene and call her out on it; at least she wasn't touching the ingredients directly with her hands, I guess. If you're craving a unique type of drink on a hot day in the West Loop, Matcha Cita is an option but it may be better to stick with the basics and try to watch the barista making your order behind the counter to ensure proper food handling practices are performed. read more

The following review concerns their loyalty program through toast: So I reached 100 points which would make me eligible to receive up to $25 in product. However I just redeemed a portion for a drink and noticed that points had been deducted and now I need to amass another 33 points to reach $25. Had I known would have just chosen $25 worth of product. Why couldn't I eventually just use the points up to $25 until I reached 0. This seems to be pretty scammish The above is what I asked the AI agent at Toast. The following is the response: That is expected behavior: loyalty programs are set up and controlled by each restaurant, and they can choose how points are redeemed (including whether a redemption "uses up" points and reduces your balance). So if you redeemed points for a drink, the points are deducted at that time, and you would need to earn more points again to reach the next redemption threshold (like $25). If you want, you can ask the restaurant for their specific redemption rules (what counts toward the $25, and whether partial redemptions are allowed). Guess next time I better read the fine print. Thought this was a pretty decent business until today. read more

The cutest, girliest cafe ever! I instantly thought of a bunch of my girly friends I need to bring here, because Matcha Cita is just the cutest aesthetic. Matcha Cita uses authentic matcha sourced from Japan, so on top of being a super cute backdrop for your photos, the drinks and quality is there. I ordered the iced purple haze matcha, made with lavender, ube, matcha, and oat milk. This was so yummy! I'm not usually a huge fan of lavender, the the ube balanced it out so nicely, and the oat milk made everything super creamy. I also got the grilled cheese panini which warmed me up on this cold day. Wonderful cafe!!!!! My new favorite!!! I love matcha and they have a fantastic menu with so many choices. I loved the iced rose matcha latte! The rose petals on top made my day. Really delicious baked goods too. The pistachio croissant was so fresh, flaky, flavorful, and Crystal heated it so it was nice and warm. Crystal is fabulous and provided excellent service. She really went above and beyond to give recommendations and answer questions. She was so kind and it was clear she loves working here. Gorgeous cafe!!!! I love the pink and matcha green decor. This cafe is so adorable and Instagrammable, I just know the owners planned the decor well. From wall to wall the decor was on theme and fun to look at. But also, there are space heaters spread throughout the cafe for this winter visit as well. My wife and I love matcha drinks so we were excited to visit the cafe. To people visiting Chicago - note the street parking! We ordered the Purple Haze drink that already has oat milk so that works perfect for me but my wife ordered the cookie butter matcha latte but subbed in oat milk. THE MOST IMPORTANT NOTE: THEY USE REAL MATCHA AND NOT INSTANT. They even have custom and adorable pink bowls for their whisking. Anyway, I really liked both drinks - loved my purple haze order more though but that's just because I'm a huge fan of Ube. I usually don't like cookie butter drinks but I liked this one which is a great sign. We also got a hazelnut chocolate croissant and it tasted really good! My wife didn't like the actual hazelnuts in it but I loved that it added an extra crunch element. Also the service? 6/5. Shoutout to the barista working this day, there was a group of 8 then a group of 2 there before us. And she seemed like the only person working and got all orders correct and kept up the energy even with all the work and even apologized about the wait. The service here was awesome, there was one worker serving and helping everyone who visited. She held it down by herself for like 10 guests that came in while we were there. I got a golden immunity smoothie which had my two favorite ingredients tumeric & ginger. I did think the matcha was a bit too faint but could be due to the milk alternative used. Matcha Cita Latte - I was recommended vanilla almond milk so that's what I went with! However I think it takes away from the matcha entirely. I couldn't taste any matcha. Not sure if it was a one-off, but I probably wouldn't recommend flavored almond milk as the vanilla was quite dominant. They don't carry soy milk, but have all the other typical options of 2%, oat, and coconut which usually pair better. read more

Great music playing and the ladies behind the counter are so sweet and friendly. I was undecided on what to order from the menu. My first time visiting and trying Matcha. The young lady behind the counter gave me a few samples of the Matcha. The taste was terrible so I just ordered a raspberry tea. I wasn't a fan of the purple haze or the pink senorita. I saw Matcha Cita's Instagram page and got immediately excited as a matcha lover. So many different types of lattes, teas, coffees and even pastries. Located on Lake Street where there is plenty of metered parking around, I think the Fulton Market is the perfect location. The decor on the inside is SO DARN CUUUUUTE!!! From the colors on the walls and tables, the flower decor etc. Very welcoming and made me want to sit inside all day. I enjoyed a berry matcha iced latte with oat milk. SO GOOD and perfectly made. From the cute floor entrance to the ceilings and little shop 10/10. This is a cute place for IG worthy pics forsure . We tried out the pink señorita & purple haze matcha drinks, but were not impressed. The pink señorita tasted like extremely watered down . You literally could not taste the strawberries nor pitaya. The purple haze on the other hand did taste sweet , sort of a fruit loops taste. You could not taste the matcha on the purple haze which was disappointing. I'm not even a huge matcha fan, but this put me on. The matcha flavor was light and perfect mixed with the sweet cinnamon flavor of the horchata. It was a little grainy, but still delicious. I came back a second time because it was that good! I got the matcha chai, although I will say it wasn't really my cup of tea. The chai flavor seemed sour and didn't match well with the matcha in my opinion. There were also powdery matcha clumps at the bottom of my drink that weren't whisked in all the way.
