I stopped in with a few friends on a Saturday afternoon around 1:00pm. Chicago Waffles wasn't my preferred destination, but I went along with it because one of my friends enjoys the south loop location. We walked in and were greeted promptly by the host. She seated us in a quiet spot in the corner near the restrooms. Our waiter was attentive and funny. For me, he was the best part of the entire experience. I don't care much for breakfast food, so I had the American burger. I prefer my burgers well done but ordered it medium well because I didn't want the cooks to burn the patty. The burger was very greasy, and not very good. It also had a slight off-putting smell that made me worry about becoming ill. (Thankfully that didn't happen) It tasted okay, but I can't say that it was enjoyable. It was edible, which isn't saying much. The waffle fries were nothing spectacular either. I was disappointed with my food. I also had the mango smoothie, which was decent. My sister had the corned beef hash, eggs, toast, and potatoes. She really liked her food, especially the corned beef. My friend Shannon had the French toast flight, but she didn't eat much of it because she said it was too sweet. Our other friend had the eggs, bacon, and potatoes, which he enjoyed. I wouldn't visit Chicago Waffles again, but everyone else in my party said they would so take that for what it's worth. The restaurant was busy, but the staff did a great job running the show. Never again. I wanted to love this place, but alas the food is medium and the service is aggressively bad. Do your self a favor and avoid. The Pancake House is a block away. Less than a mile away is PQM and Breakfast Club in opposite directions. I brought my wife and young daughter there. We were placed at the heart of the restaurant. I earnestly feel that the staff was playing a game of who can bump the chair the most. If it were one, two, or even five times I would chalk it up to servers hustling to get people their food. But it didn't stop at 5. After we hit 10 times that a server had run into my chair, I literally had to move furniture behind it. And this was after I had put my backpack on the back of a chair so there was no way that it was them. Simply not seeing me. I will never again go back to this location of waffles so long as I live. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and the waitstaff quickly seated us at a 2-top short table. Our waitress stopped by to greet and recommend some options. We both went with shack skillets...I decided on the short rib, scrambled eggs, no cheese, w/ a pancake and she went w/ the meat lover. I prefer hash browns vs home fries so I didn't have high hopes; boy was I surprised. We got the Fiesta Avo Toast, Mediterranean Shakshuka, Fresh Garden Skillet, Casa Chilaquiles, Dubai Chocolate Crepes, Waffle Flight, and Pancakes. Everything was really good. I was very excited to try this place for brunch with friends, but overall it did not meet my expectations. Good: service was prompt, they were always checking on our glasses of water and coffee. They were never left empty. And the coffee was delicious. Not good: my matcha waffle was deceiving to say the least. It didn't taste like matcha at all. It just tasted like plain waffle batter... What was more disappointing was the overwhelming, off-putting artificial green color. It was more like Green Lantern 's green, and it's everything Matcha is NOT. It's an insult to matcha lovers. We arrived at 12:05p and had a 10 minute wait for a party of 6. We were sat quickly and the server arrived promptly to take our drink & food order. Sadly after getting our drinks and food orders in, we didn't see our server for quite some time after. About 40 minutes went by after placing the order and we began to question where our food was. The food came out at 1:20p and here's an overview of the items we had. Lemon blueberry Waffle - was a 7/10 the blueberry cream cheese topping was light and fluffy, along with the whipped cinnamon cream. The waffle itself was a bit dry and didn't have much flavor. The breakfast tacos - were a 6/10 they were very filling but didn't come with the cilantro and were a bit thrown together The espresso martini was a 7.5/10 it was a on the creamy side, a good pour and not overly bitter. Yummmm is all I have to say! I went in on a Saturday morning and made a reservation on Yelp, but it wasn't necessary. I saw many parties come in and get seated within 5-10 minutes. However, that's not to say that a reservation could be helpful, since you can't predict how busy they'd be. The service was great. We were given waters and what we wanted to drink within minutes of seating. I had the berry smoothie which tasted sweet and fresh. The food was definitely the star of the show. This morning, I left the house without eating anything I was starving and running on empty. I was on a serious time crunch and needed to be at work in just 20 minutes, but I still wanted to grab something real to eat. When I called Waffles, I mentioned my situation, and Erica immediately stepped in with such care and professionalism. She didn't just take my order; she made sure I was taken care of from start to finish. Came in for lunch on a thursday, not too busy. I decided to try the short rib and cheddar waffle (the short rib is on top/on the side of the cheddar waffle) rather than my usual chicken and waffle. I do regret that decision as the short rib portion was very small and also kind of weird tasting. However, the waffle was pretty good and so was the banana cream waffle.
