He recommended that I try the syrniki (the Russian/Ukrainian cheese pancakes), and we also ordered the cream cheese & garlic donut, Napoleon cake, a "Bumble" (orange juice + espresso), and a pistachio latte. Everything was delicious! I especially loved the cream cheese & garlic donut -- perfectly baked on the outside and filled with garlic-flavored cream cheese. So savory and satisfying! Decided to come here with a friend to catch up over a lighter breakfast and some coffee. Super glad we did because the staff was very friendly, the place had a lot of seating and was cute overall, and the food and drinks were delicious! I came here two days in a row lol - I'd been meaning to check this local spot out for a while. First day, my friends and I had breakfast - I got the regular syrniki, a burrata danish, and we shared the honey cake. The honey cake itself should be five stars and this Central Asian-run local spot has great vibes and ambiance including workers with warm smiles. However, I thought the syrniki was a wee bit small for the price and also just okay. I came back the next day because I was in the area and hungry and I did enjoy picking things out of their pastry case: this time I got a potato pirozkhi &cream cheese and garlic donut. I read a review describing the latter as an everything donut. Both were good, as was the burrata danish from the day before, but I only think the honey cake is a must try. Went on a whim Sunday morning for breakfast since we've been seeing Sweet Moon pop up on social media. The interior is quaint and welcoming with good natural light. Seems like it would be a good place to work too. The menu is extensive and has some unique options. We opted for the pastries at the counter and they did not disappoint! We got the garlic and cream cheese donut and the burrata pesto danish. We also got both hot, which I highly recommend. The garlic + cream cheese donut was so delicious! The perfect mix of creamy and garlicky. Similar to a bagel, but less heavy. The danish was also fabulous! I love all the savory flavors and the dough was flaky and crispy. I would definitely get both again. For drinks, I got the strawberry matcha, a seasonal offering. I loved the addition of the strawberry for a nice hit of sweetness. I heard about this new place and finally made it out. It was so dreamy. First of all the decor inside is absolutely gorgeous. Second of all the selection is amazing, from drinks to pastries to actual full meals. I got a peanut butter RAF and it was absolutely dreamy. My friend and I came here after a Friday morning workout at the local gym since it was recommended to us by another friend we were staying with while visiting for the weekend. The food and drinks have been very good. They mostly serve breakfast foods (omelets, waffles, crepes, etc) so keep that mind. The portions aren't the biggest but the quality is good. I've gotten the mushroom omelet twice. I really like their desserts - they served my basque cheesecake with warm chocolate and it was soooo good. My goodness. Sweet Moon is not even a mile away from my home and I've never been to it before today. I must confess, there have been many restaurants that have flitted in and out of this and the space next door, so I don't even always know what might be here at any time. And I never seem to see people in the restaurants along here so I hesitate to get attached. But I hope that Sweet Moon bucks the trend! They've been here for two years and I'm keeping my fingers crossed they are here for many more. Their food is great. I met some friends here and their chai was really good, and if it is made from a concentrate I couldn't tell. It had a subtle flavor, but also didn't taste watered down like is often the case. They also have pastries and small bites as well. I got a sausage roll and mashed potato... thing (I don't know what it was called) and both were really good. Well, so was the potato! They also had a few free samples out so we tasted a raspberry donut and mango. The mango was ok but not my thing (maybe because mango isn't a fruit I generally choose; I'm fairly indifferent) but the raspberry was so good. It didn't taste like a sticky jelly the way most filled donuts do; this was more like a raspberry gel or cream or something Fuller flavor and more true to the fruit, in my opinion. Next time I'd buy a full sized raspberry donut. I can promise it won't be another two years before I stop in again. Went to this place based on some recommendations for best bakery in Chicago, and so glad I did! The chicken samsa and garlic cream doughnut were excellent. The donut tasted like the best crab Rangoon with garlic. We also ordered the salmon sandwich, which was very good, and the breakfast sandwich, which was excellent. Don't sleep on Sweet Moon! For the looongest time I would walk past here and lament that they were never open when I was in the neighborhood. And then they expanded their hours sometime not too long ago! Hurrah! I had also confused this place with Sugar Moon. No, this is not the place with the cookies and big pastry assortment (their pastries do seem fine though). The honey cake ($6) I tried was REALLY good and everything I dreamed it would be. Graham crackery and creamy and rich and not too sweet. It's also beautiful and something I could never pull off in a million years. I also tried the cappuccino which was solid, and their eggs Benedict, which was very unique. Instead of an English muffin you get waffles, and it includes smoked salmon, avocado, and a nice side of potatoes ($17). Big portions, too. Alas, if only I lived closer. The interior is really nice and roomy, too, and a good place for working/studying. Service is casual and you pay up front, and there's a self-serve water station in the back. Overall highly recommend for their unique menu and good food, and will definitely be back if I'm in the area! Especially for that honey cake. read more

Outstanding!!! Can I give 6 stars? Great, cozy cafe for one or many with outstanding unique food and great drinks. The portions are quite large for the plates but so worth getting to try lots of different things. Mushroom omelet was full of fresh veggies with a balsamic glaze on it. Potatoes, asparagus and some bread-- yum. And the salad was great however a bit dressed. Probably only critique is to have the dressing on the side. Breakfast plate has all the great things, meat, eggs, veggies, bread and cheese. Waffle has ice cream!!! Enough said! I loved this quaint unassuming cafe. The food was excellent. The deserts are scrumptious. The service was awesome. My boss took me and some other staff members here after attending a training. Sweet moon is a cute little cafe spot on Lawrence. There's street parking, they offer pre order on their website which if you're picking up food other than pastries I would recommend doing the pre-order so you won't have to wait for your order to be ready. You walk up to the counter to order/pay and they bring your order out. The seating area is super cute if you decide to dine in. It's picture friendly but if you're in a group they have limited seating. I tried the salmon sandwich it's got a strong dill flavor and cream cheese but over all a light sandwich. The pistachio raspberry cake is the best thing we tried and second is the flat croissant. I was surprised by the honey cake I've never had one before and it won't be the last time. The pain au chocolate is super flakey and had a good amount of chocolate. I want to try some of the drinks next time we visit. They have a cute flower wall which has now become a typical for cafes. I am obsessed with this place. I loved pretty much everything I tried. I order their iced vanilla latte with oat milk every time I go there. My favorites are their macarons (must try!), ground beef crepes, farmer cheese waffles (come with lot of sauces so sauces on the side for me) and syrniki.
