FRESH FRUIT PARFAIT
Kevin J.

Stopped in at noon on a Saturday in August and was sat right away for a table of two. Both indoor and outdoor seating was available. Food was excellent. Way better than expected from a low key environment. We would highly recommend coming for a great, easy brunch on the weekends. Meals ran around $15 each.

Perfect breakfast and lunch spot in West Town! Super friendly staff and the food is amazing in this cozy spot. They have a very large menu with all the breakfast favorites as well as long list of lunch items! The place is small but does not feel overcrowded. Come for the food stay for the hospitality! Pro Tip: order a single pancake on the side to try them, so good!

HUEVOS RANCHEROS
karina k.

The huevos rancheros was good...just wish for $13.50 plus tax and total $14.96 I got a side like hash browns or potato's or something on the side. Otherwise the food is good and not salty and seasoned just right. Street parking only on a busy street. Free unless it's M-F 4-6pm. See sign. And the food was ready for pickup in 10-15 min as promised.

Amazing breakfast food! Every time! Love the Intelligencia Coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice.

OMELET

I have often heard good things about Breakfast House and have been wanting to try for some time. I just now realized there are multiple locations as I came on Yelp to write this review. My first experience was via Door Dash order in which I've done twice. I first ordered the Croissant Sandwich which was really good! It includes virginia ham, white cheddar and scrambled eggs on a grilled croissant along with a side of roasted potatoes. Its a nice size as well...like shareable! I also ordered the egg white omelet in which it was ok...also came with the side of potatoes and could be shared. I actually came by to check out the actual restaurant and its your normal everyday diner. Staff is very nice and gives menu tips if asked. I got the Breakfast House Hash and was very excited about it. Unfortunately it lacked the flavor I thought it would have. The dish includes two poached eggs atop a mix of chicken sausage, andouille sausage, roasted potatoes, onions, and red peppers. I had to douse in hot sauce and it helped but still didn't really do it for me. Big enough to be shared. I would come back and try again but would definitely bring someone as portion sizes are very big.

Cornmeal cakes with scrambled eggs and fresh fruit.

First time visit. I was intrigued by the Cornmeal Cakes on the menu. The place was packed, but I was able to sit at the counter. Service, food, coffee and vibe was great. I will be back.

Breakfast was phenomenal... the Eggplant soup is a must try! 10 out of 10.

BREAKFAST BURRITO

Solid breakfast spent at Breakfast House. We went around 9:15 on a Sunday and got a table immediately. Friendly staff. Fresh squeezed OJ: 5/5 Breakfast Burrito: 4.5/5 (the sauce on it is delicious, but I would suggest getting it on the side so it's not so hard to eat!) Pancakes: 3/5 (just very average)

I'm BACK! Here for another conference had to stop in in-person. It was amazing as I expected it to be. The service was fast and hospitable. The location was situated nicely and very clean and fresh. The food was again a 10/10. I brought my son and he left no crumbs on his huge Nutella waffle plate. You guys are amazing.

The Breakfast house is a quaint little place on the corner of W Grand and N Wood. The meal I had was delicious. The service was prompt and everyone is very pleasant and kind. I recommend this place to everyone.

Hash

Amazing service and the food was great. One of the best pancakes I've ever had which says a lot since I have had many different pancakes from Chicago. The hash was delicious but a bit heavy on the sodium. Overall great food and will definitely be back

Sour cream pancakes are out of this world! I don't like fluffy cake-like buttermilk pancakes so I'm always on the hunt for something more like sourdough pancakes. The sour cream pancakes here are thin like crepes, super soft and mine were served piping hot! I got a side of bacon also. The berry compote served with the pancakes is good but I didn't finish mine as the taste of the pancakes reigned supreme! Ambiance of restaurant is great and service was quick and friendly. Sorry the photo shows them half eaten but I wanted to demonstrate the thinness of the pancakes. Again, these are more like crepes than fluffy buttermilk pancakes (which are gross anyway!)

Supreme Chorizo Hash, Side Buttermilk Pancake w/ Blueberries

While looking for a good breakfast while staying in the area, we stumbled across the breakfast house. We were worried about the wait but when we walked in we were able to sit in a couple of minutes! I would say plan accordingly because the line was looong when we left. The food here was amazing! I enjoyed the Supreme Chorizo Hash, that had literally all of the flavors and included guacamole (I love). With this meal you get the option to have toast or their fluffy buttermilk pancake. You know I already had my eyes on a side of pancakes so this combination gave me the best of both worlds. And I was able to add my favorite addition, blueberries! Not only on top as pictured but in the batter as well. Highly recommend it all!

Ask the Community - Breakfast House

Would we be able to bring in our own champagne on a Friday or is that option only available on Saturday/Sunday?…

As long as they are open, it is BYOB all the time. We have brought liquor and we have brought champagne. Enjoy!

Do they have mimosas?

They do BYOB, hope that helps.

Do they have parking?

Unfortunately it is a neighborhood spot, so you will have to find street parking. Right on Grand isn't too bad either East or West of the intersection. You can even try one block South, mostly business/warehouse.

They were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful with their recommendations. We opted in for the vegetarian tasting menu. Each course was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Nothing felt like an afterthought, and the menu offered an impressive variety of flavors and textures. We were super full at the end. The restaurant also prepared a special birthday menu with all the great dishes the chef made for us that day. Some of our favorites included the Cherry Tomato Tart, Smoked Turnip, Chestnut Ravioli, and Roasted Maitake Mushroom with Meyer lemon and black truffle. The Chocolate Tart and Elderflower Panna Cotta were the perfect finishing touches along with the birthday ice cream popsicle. Overall, Boka felt intimate, elevated, and impeccably executed. It was clear that tremendous thought went into every dish. This was a truly memorable meal, and we will be back :).

The bar seating itself wasn't super crowded - but every booth and table looked like it was taken, so that was interesting. On my way to the bathroom I saw their numerous michelin years of guide and stars. It's noticeably missing 2026 - and after having dined here, I kind of get why. For a drink I got the local Eris Pedestrian cider. We debated getting the chef menu ($195/each) , but we ended up ordering a la carte: chicken liver mousse ($9/each, we ordered two), roasted veal sweetbreads ($30), black truffle chicken ($43), and roasted dry aged pork loin ($51). We later ordered a financiers for dessert (forgot the price). We were full after eating everything that we ordered, but given the lack of quality of the cuts of meat, the small portion sizes, and the extremely high cost, it's hard for me to recommend this place. If this is what Michelin star-quality food tastes like (at least in Chicago), the Michelin evaluators here have either no actual taste buds, or are awarding stars for "vibes" only. The vibes are fine - don't get me wrong - but the food here isn't anything worth writing home about. Dish by dish: mousse was decent, the veal was kinda dry, the chicken was very dry, and the pork loin, while decent, wasn't as special as we thought it'd be. Financiers was kinda sweet but it was actually the only part of the meal I truly enjoyed the bites of. The post-meal truffle thing was too sweet for the missus so I ate both. The cider was... Pedestrian, as the name implies. Definitely the most fitting name for the drink. The bathrooms are down the stairs - so it's terrible for those in wheelchairs or that are mobility challenged. The bathrooms themselves are high-quality - which is part of the experience, but idk if it's "worthy" of adding stars to a mediocre food experience.

I want to preface my review with the positives, Londyn was our server & was truly so kind, thorough, and friendly. The restaurant itself is clean & all tables have clear views of the TVs on game days. Now for the room for improvement- the food was very underwhelming. Being from the Chicago area previously, I regularly advocate for the Chicago food scene, and this unfortunately did not meet those standards. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, buffalo cauliflower, wings, and sesame ginger salad: -Brussel sprouts: tasted like they weren't seasoned just air fried and drenched in balsamic dressing -Buffalo cauliflower: soggy, unseasoned, runny buffalo sauce -Wings: PERFECTLY CRISPY, but no flavor (we ordered lemon pepper & buffalo) -Sesame ginger salad: sloppy mix of vegetables tossed in an overly sweet sauce with no sesame or ginger flavor in sight If you're not going to eat, this is probably a great spot, but from a food standpoint, there is room for improvement.

Our server, Miguel, was phenomenal. She was attentive, fast, and gave us some spot-on recommendations. Per her advice, we ordered the deviled eggs with jalapeño, hands down the highlight of the table. The deviled eggs with paired with that subtle jalapeño kick was absolutely perfect. For the mains, the chicken and waffles were good, carrying that solid comfort food flavor you expect. The waffles were a bit soft for my taste. To drink, the sidecar was mixed perfectly, well-balanced, crisp, and hit the exact right note. Giving it 4 stars only because while the mains were good, the starters and the outstanding service from Miguel were what truly stole the show. Very hip and trendy, with a great atmosphere and a two-story layout. The upstairs area looked like it would be perfect for larger groups or private gatherings. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite match the atmosphere. We were a party of six and arrived before the big dinner rush, so it wasn't particularly busy when we ordered. Our server was very quiet and not especially engaging. I was seated toward the end of the table, and rather than walking over to take my order or answer questions, she spoke to me from across the table. I personally enjoy being able to have a conversation with my server, especially when I have questions about gluten-free options, and it was awkward trying to communicate across five other people. Our food took approximately 35 minutes to arrive after ordering, which seemed excessive considering how quiet the restaurant was when we placed our order. Interestingly, the staff assisting with clearing tables and refilling water were much friendlier and more personable than our actual server. The GF Fried chicken was good, crispy but lacked flavor. I did not care for the GF waffles, and the syrup was underwhelming. Others enjoyed their meal, the fish and chips and short ribs were well liked. One thing worth mentioning: Yardbird automatically adds a 20% gratuity for parties of six. We all had separate checks, and when paying through the QR code, the payment system also prompted for an additional tip. If you're not paying attention, it would be easy to tip twice, so definitely double-check before submitting payment. The restaurant is on the pricier side, although the portions are generous. Overall, I loved the atmosphere and appreciated having gluten-free options, but the service and overall experience fell a little short of expectations. I'm glad we tried it, but I'm not sure it's somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit again.
