Stumbled upon Bread & Chocolate since it was walking distance from our hotel in Georgetown and it was a great find. Casual breakfast spot with baked goods to go and a relaxed vibe. The staff was very friendly and attentive, the cappuccino was good, and we enjoyed the scrambled eggs, hash browns, and quiche. Convenient, quick, with seating and clean bathrooms--perfect for an easy breakfast.

Good food, great coffee, amazing service. The location is close to the national mall.

Bread and Chocolate is somewhat of an institution having been around so long. I like that you can order and receive your drink on ceramic. There are some decent pastries as well. This is more of a table service pastry shop than a stand and order. The inside has an upscale vibe. Overall a decent choice.

Vegan scramble with avocado:)

Went here last week and was pleasantly surprised to see a vegan section on their menu - - big help for those of us not eating eggs or dairy. The service was super friendly. Dining room has quite a few tables. Food came out in good time. And the vegan scramble was pretty good.

Cappuccino and pastry. Why the to go cup? no idea

Right next to Kaiser, so came for coffee and a snack. The employee at the cashier greets and immediately asks you what you'd like to order even though the pastry shelves are deeper in. Hm. The pastries looked great, but I hesitated when I saw a few flies buzzing within the glass shelves and employees who didn't seem to care. ...still ordered a few danishes. They tasted great. Ordered cappuccino and that tasted good too. Good size. However, cashier didn't seem to want me to "dine in" for some reason. Kept pushing for a togo order. Ended caving but got a plate for my pastry. Then i accidentally knocked over my to go cup coffee while swatting at these malicious mosquitos. Knocked it all over myself and my stuff T-T This would not have happened if I had a ceramic cup, so I went in and told the cashier and all she could offer was a "I'm sorry". Ugh. So I ordered cappuccino because I have hours to burn and really do need caffeine but I didn't go back to their mosquito infested patio and just to Kaiser. Would've sat inside but the vibes were off.

They charge market prices for eggs. That was not mentioned on the menu or in person. So avocado toasts that comes with eggs is charges extra for eggs.

I forgot the name on the menu, but it had ham and cheese inside. :)

The best aspect of this place is the service!! Such a welcoming environment, smiles and kindness all around, which makes you enjoy whatever you order. The omelette was great, I had it with some side salad. Well presented and very tasty. Cappuccino was also nicely done. I had higher hopes on the pastries, but that's ok. Maybe it was the wrong day, maybe I'm just too picky. If I went back, I would just order the omelette :)

French Country

Wait I actually can't believe this place has such low reviews because I had one of the best diner-like experiences of my life here and the food we had was amazing. I can't say enough good things about the French Country egg sandwich. That thing is SO GOOD. The salty sweet combination of the ham/egg with the fig spread means so much to me. The bread was soft and contained the sandwich well, and I think about this sandwich every time I look back on the three days I spent in DC. We also tried the strawberry crepe, which came with this strawberry cream inside that I think was house made? It was just so unexpected-- I was really expecting just strawberries and whipped cream, but they took this to the next level. I was so impressed by the cream and it wasn't too sweet. I also ordered an iced chai, which tasted so similar in flavor to an iced chai I've had in NYC that is probably one of the best chais I've had. Not too watery and pretty strong and creamy. The only thing I'll say is that our waitress got our order wrong for both dishes. She came out with a completely different sandwich (we asked for a replacement), and we had actually ordered the blueberry crepe not the strawberry (we just didn't want them to throw the strawberry away so we decided to eat it). Not sure how the order got so wrong, but in the end it was no big deal. This will be a stop next time I'm here 100%

Online menu, not what I paid

I ordered two sandwiches over the phone. I picked them up and briefly thought the total seemed high, but I paid it and left. Later I checked the receipt. They charged higher prices than they advertised on their website. I filled out the website form to ask for a refund. They did not respond. Two sandwiches (chicken avocado and ham/brie) should not cost $37.50. Way overpriced.

Salmon salad

Solid place for breakfast/lunch or a pastry. Conveniently located near Georgetown. Fast, friendly service. Large selection of pastries. I had the croissant which was flaky and buttery. Salmon on the salad was a nice sized portion.

Nice place for a quick breakfast or brunch. They have variety of pastries and service was good. The employees greeted us right away and brought the menus quickly and didn't have to wait for long for ordering. You can sit outside or inside. The place was not loud and we felt welcomed and really liked the food. Prices are not bad for the area and compare to other places.

Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful staff, and delicious food -- definitely a spot worth putting on your brunch list. My date made the reservation for us, which turned out to be a very good idea because the restaurant was hopping! Definitely recommend making one ahead of time. We were both in the mood for a cocktail, but decided to explore the mocktail drink menu. He initially considered going with another coffee since it was still early, but ultimately went with an espresso martini. I tried the French 86, and both were great choices. The espresso martini was smooth and well made, while the French 86 was beautifully fruit-forward. And I have to give my date credit -- a man who isn't afraid to try my fruity cocktail! For food, we decided to share the avocado toast to start and added an egg, asking for it to be cooked a little more rather than very runny. We were glad we did because the toast was loaded with greens! It was definitely a little messy to eat, but in the fun, "this is actually delicious" kind of way. Nothing embarrassing... thankfully. He ordered the chicken and waffles, which he completely demolished. The sweet-and-savory combination was a big hit. I went with the French omelette, and it was delicious -- rich, flavorful, and surprisingly filling. I could only manage about half of it along with the salad! Overall, a wonderful brunch experience. The atmosphere is beautiful, the service was attentive, and there were so many tempting dishes coming out of the kitchen that we kept noticing things we wanted to try. I'd definitely come back to explore more of the menu.

The interior of the space is really vibrant with a lot of natural lighting coming in and the cute furniture. You almost feel like you've been transported to France or something. While dining here I was able to try their, +cinnamon roll (it's HUGEEEE, def a shareable- 8/10) + passion fruit cocktail (7.5/10) + breakfast sandwich (10/10 - I was surprised by how much I loved it) + pancakes (8/10) + kale salad (7.5/10) I didn't get to try the salmon benedict but it looks delicious. I have not been to the Tabard Inn for more than 20 years. No real reason, just found other…read morerestaurants to go to, I guess. But, this weekend, I needed reservations for a group and they had what I wanted, when I needed it. So, off to the Tabard Inn we went. The restaurant is charming, quaint and old. It leans heavily into its unique character and not without some success. I felt like I was walking into the past. Old worn wood floors, old upholstered furniture that had seen better days, heck, the place even smelled old. But, rather than turn me off, it was comfortable and inviting, kind of like going to your grandma's house where everything looks like a museum but you know you're gonna get some love there. The staff could not be nicer, better, more friendly. They know how to "do" hospitality and do it well. The food was good, very good. I had the pork shank. I am telling you that I could only finish about 1/3 of it because the serving was so large. And the meat was fall of the bone, cut with your fork, tender. The flavor was rich and intense. Great job! The lamb chops looked fantastic. The fried chicken was just okay according to my spouse. Is the Tabard Inn the best restaurant in DC? No and, guess what, it's not trying to be. It is just trying to satisfy the diners. There is no haute cuisine here. Tried and true dishes, prepared very well. The other thing about this restaurant is its flexibility. You want to dress casual? Do it. You looking for a dress up, old fashioned sort of dining room? Yes, that works too. Romantic dinner with your special guy or gal? Absolutely! They seem to satisfy everyone here. And they definitely satisfied me. Will I go back again? Yes absolutely. Do I recommend the Tabard Inn? Of course!

The weight was super busy, but we were able to meet a couple on the way in who had a reservation. When we got up to the front, we noticed that the couple ran to the counter at the bar and got seats. When we asked the hostess, how long the wait for a party of two would be she said one hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes. I had to catch my flight so we definitely could not wait that long. Right when we were about leave and walk away, the very kind and nice couple (Montez & Alayna) that we met walking up, told us that they had secured bar seats and that we could take their breakfast brunch dining reservation. THIS WAS A BLESSING! I purchased their first round of drinks because they were generous with their reservation. There are great people in this city, thanks! We were seated right away at a dining table, and the place was packed, as usual. Our server was wonderful. I believe her name was Alisha or Aisha, and she took care of us very well. We ordered: Naan Bread Appetizer, Blueberry Pancakes with Mascarpone, side of chicken sausage, Creme Brûlée French Toast, side of scrambled eggs, and side of Hash browns. For beverages we had coffee and apple juice plus water. Our food came out within 10 to 12 minutes and everything was delicious and amazing. We were so stuffed and really enjoyed our time here. At the end of our reservation the restaurant Manager approached us (named Derek or Ryan) with the gentleman from the couple who gave us his reservation. They surprised us each with a decadent dessert! This was in response to us buying their first round of drinks. The customer service of our server was AMAZING, the food was DELICIOUS, and the surprise desserts were FABULOUS! This is definitely our go-to restaurant in DC.
