Be cautious going to this location for any work, as they are rude and incompetent. I made the appointment for here then felt a little nervous when I saw some of the reviews. I do find it intimidating sometimes going for auto repairs not knowing anything about cars and what might be necessary and have definitely found people who will over charge and add things in the past. I was pleasantly surprised when I came in asking for my brakes to be changed getting a call asking why I wanted them changed, saying they would but it's not necessary as I have 70-80% left. They went over something else I may need, explained it, and told me the price (which was significantly less that I called and priced it). They were super nice, fast and efficient. It has been over two weeks since my visit, and I have heard nothing from this company. Below is the email sent, and attached are images to back up my claims. ________________________________ I called for an estimate on some brake work and was encouraged to bring my car in for a more accurate quote. At the time of the call, I knew I needed some basic brake work maintenance, but what your service rep recommended was news to me, which caused me to pause and further look into a second and third opinion. To be honest with you, that's pretty standard when you've experienced as many deceptions and scams as I have in this male-dominated industry, and being a female. At the end of the inspection, I was told that not only did I need both rear brake pads, but I also needed one caliper that had worn unevenly. I listened to their advice, took the estimate, and began doing my research. If you know anything about brakes and calipers, apparently, it's highly unlikely that a vehicle as new as mine would need such a repair. Anyway, obviously, I didn't figure that out until after taking more time off of work to get an additional inspection. As you may have figured by now, the Honda dealership that I went to told me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my caliper. After learning that I had been lied to, I started replaying the visit to your location in my head, and I believe the manager of that location, Jamie, set up the young associate, Jadon, to deliver the information to me and try to convince me to get the repair done with urgency. I was at a different mechanic a few weeks back for another service and was told I needed work done on my brakes and was given a quote. I don't usually accept work unless I've fully researched and vetted what needs done, if it's a good price and if it's really required. As I didn't hear the warning sounds yet, FYI, brake pad manufacturers build in a strip of material that makes the classic whistling sound to warn you that you need to replace your brake pads, I knew I had some time to call around and get quotes. After making 5 or so calls to different shops, I came in to Brake Masters for a second opinion and quote on brakes + rotors. Over the phone, I received a quote for front brakes and rotors which was half the amount of what the first shop quoted me. After their inspection they confirmed that I *only required brake pads as the rotors looked good without any blemishes, discoloring or warping. I purchased their lifetime brake pads, which means you don't pay for pads for future brake pad replacements, only for the labor. This is a great deal if you'll be keeping your vehicle for a while, but it does not transfer with the vehicle, the lifetime service registers to the owner for the specific vehicle and not the vehicle itself. I've been driving around now for about 2 weeks and am happy with how the brakes feel when stopping! Overall, I'm happy with the price and quality and ended up spending $200-ish for their lifetime brake pads and service since I did NOT need to replace rotors also. Had I gone with the first shop simply because I was there, well, I would have spent $1200+ on that work. I can't explain any better than saving $1,000 on this job to describe just how important it is to do your own research and be your own advocate when it comes to every expense in life, no matter how minor or major that might seem. read more

I stopped by and asked the older guy White hair (wish i got his name) for a break quote. He asked what kind of car i have. I told him 2001 C320 Mercedes. Immediately he was like "oh man mercedes im not sure about that" He proceeded to say Mercedes have special parts and it would need a extensive inspection. It was clear he did not want business and i started to walk away. But he kept mumbling on and on. I feel he was just to lazy to do work. Your a brake shop!! This is what you do. I stopped at a mom and pop shop down the street Jacks auto shop - alignment & Brakes. 29th st Thomas. I walked in ask for a quote. They were extremely nice got online looked up parts for my car and handed me a quote. All in matter of 10 mins. I told them about my bad service at brake masters. I'm not your typical girl, in the sense that I don't like shopping, shoes, clothes, etc. I am your typical girl who knows nothing about cars, except for what I've learned via the Fast & Furious franchise. I depend on the experts to tell me what I need to do with Betty (my vehicle). When the dealer gave me a jaw-dropping quote, I turned to Yelp for alternatives. After reading the reviews, I decided to go with this location because, 1- it was near my job, and 2- when I called with questions, the employee who answered (Steve, I believe) was extremely helpful and patient with me, so I decided to give them the business. During lunch, I dropped off my vehicle for front end brakes. Steve called me and told me I needed rear brakes too, along with some sort of flush. I knew I needed those rear ones so I agreed to just do them all. I got new lifetime (honestly, I'm not sure what that really means yet) brakes on the front and rear of my vehicle for 1/2 the cost the dealership was going to charge me. No upselling, just good work done at a fair price. I'll be using them again for my next brake service needs. FYI Special financing available to help with those unexpected repair needs. The gentleman decides to scold me for not buying their overly expensive routine maintenance package! Offering your services is one thing, but scolding your customers for not buying into your outrageously expensive services is another issue! I've been coming to this break masters for several years now for my oil changes and the guys here are always working super hard and are extremely nice. They are very straight forward and get the job done. Sometimes they get backed up with their appointments and walk ins but they still always go above and beyond. (however always try to make an appointment!) Be patient and be kind, as in my last visit I witnessed a customer yelling at one of the workers and he still handled it with such class. There are not enough words in the English language to describe the levels of incompetence at brake masters. It started out well enough, the manager was normal and agreeable. But it got substantially worse from there. This was in March of 2019. I initially brought my truck in for an alignment and to diagnose a brake him. They said a full alignment and got everything fixed, and identified the brake issue and resolved it. Great! So I got my truck back and started my commute home. On the freeway o realized the steering wheel needed to be at 11'clock to drive straight. Plus when I almost got home the brake hum was back. With the added bonus of brake pull to the right. I called, left a message, and got another appointment for the next day. This time when I came in, they said they weren't comfortable working on lifted trucks (were not talking a mammoth lift here, it was 2" from stock). So they copped out on the alignment. His "best tech" couldn't identify what the brake issue was. So they gave the truck back and I went somewhere else. The other shop said the alignment was way off, and the brake pull was due to an issue with the brake line on the front left side. We replaced the line but I ended up needing to replace the caliper too. They identified the source of the hum and fixed it. I held off on the alignment because it was only off by a little bit and I was getting ready to replace a steering part anyway. About a week after that I was driving down the 10 in rush hour and one of the wheels came off my truck. Thankfully no one was hurt, but it further underscores how awful this place is. Fast forward to two months ago. I brought my car in for work and had an alignment done. They said it was completely out of whack and every single setting was way off (camber, toe, & castor). It ended up doubling the cost of the alignment at the new place to fix. Now fast forward to today. I went in for a tire rotation (less than a year and 4K miles later). My back tires are in great shape at 9/32". The outer part of the front tires are also at 9/32". The inner part of the front tires is at 5/32". The shop said it'd be dangerous to rotate them and said I needed two new tires to the tune of $450. I just can't tell you how angry I am. The self inflicted pain comes from me waiting too long after they screwed up the alignment to get it fixed. But how the hell do you get an alignment so far off? It's also ridiculous a place literally named "brake masters" can't diagnose brake pull. The other shop found it almost immediately. The wheel coming off was absurd, but if it doesn't come off on your way out of the parking lot don't even try to pin them on it. Bottom line, if you like paying for the worst of the worst service and want to pay even more for their screw ups down the line, this is the place for you. Otherwise, literally go anywhere else. You'd be better off driving your car into a ditch than taking it to brake masters. read more

One of the workers who works here Gocean did everything he could when I called and told them the situation. The other guy there acted like he didn't want to help me get it fixed because it was there fault for not closing the hood all the way . Nice guys but poor service. Inaccurate info on when my car would be completed. When it finally was done, the interior was a mess and grease all over the seats and carpets. How do I even know if they changed all the fluids if they don't care about my car? Update. Cliff the GM called me. As I said, nice guys and we discussed this and he was very kind. The absolute nicest manager. I called to see if he was able to get two cars in for an oil change since I had gone to another location and they were not able to squeeze me in. When I called he said absolutely and to head over. When we got there he had them on it right away and it was done so fast! We did not have enough time to get the tires rotated so I made an appointment for a few days later. When we came in for the tire rotation he remembered us and said that he was going to take care of the tire rotation for us since they did not have the time from the previous day! I have gone to this specific Brake Masters for 8 years now and they first helped me with my Grandpa's 1994 Toyota Camry (which I always appreciated because I loved that car). Once I finally traded it in for my 2014 Ford Focus, I continued to come here for a few reasons. I really enjoy the comfort of calling and having either Jamie or Steve pick up the phone, I'm always able to set an appointment asap, and the feedback I get on my car and what should be repaired is always honest and the pricing is incredible compared to the Ford dealership. Jamie and Steve are always kind and helpful in explaining any extra details I need and oil changes are always quick. I definitely feel taken care of and never taken advantage of. The decision to pay for a repair is always up to me and I'm never strong-armed into paying for expensive repairs when I haven't had time to think it over. Sign at entrance said masks required. Lead salesman (perhaps mgr?) wasn't wearing a mask. Several other staff were not wearing masks. Including the mechanic that worked on my car. I was quoted a wait time of 1.5-2 hrs. At 112° outside i had to sit in waiting room for over 3 hours. Salesman dealt with numerous customers in that time. Never once did he don a mask. Great brake service at a fraction of dealer price. I took my car here for front brake pads and installation of rotors I purchased on my own. The manager test drive the vehicle to confirm that it needs the services and then told me how much it would be to do brake pads and rotors on the rear. Cool thing is he didn't try to sell me services I didn't need and followed my directions to do the fronts with installation of rotors I bought. A lot of places won't install customer purchases parts. 45 minutes they are done and my brakes no longer shake when I need to stop. I was happy, they took their coupon and I saved on parts! I'll be back next week to do the rears. Happy as a clam. read more

I have had prior good experiences here but not this time. I had made an appointment to bring in my 2007 Dodge Dakota 4.7L 2WD to have the brakes checked as I knew there was a leak somewhere. Having to add brake fluid every few months made me think a caliper or wheel cylinder was leaking. A brake job usually costs about $150 with the shop fees etc. I was given an estimate close to $1000.00 I was told a caliper was leaking and would have to be replaced in pairs. I was also told that they would have to replace both rotors and the pads. To Remove & Replace both Calipers was $96 Labor and $340 for two calipers My problem is the markup is about 200% on parts. I asked if they could just rebuild the caliper which involves a little cleaning and replacing some seals. A caliper rebuild kit costs about $20. I was told No they don't do that because it was almost as costly as replacement of the caliper. This is misleading to the uninformed public and wrong. The rotors were quoted $191 for two which is also a huge markup generally speaking there should be no extra labor involved in putting the rotor on as it is removed when you do the brake job anyhow. I however asked to see the rotors which appeared to me in good condition and serviceable. I do not believe the salesman had the tech measure the rotors with his Micrometer to see if they were serviceable. The coupon price for a Lifetime warranty premium brake job is $130 including labor, premium pads and resurfacing the rotors. however my invoice quotes me $113 for front brake service labor and $102 for Centric Extended wear brake pads. Again a huge markup on parts but this should have been $130 combined not $215. The other part of the recommended work was a brake fluid flush for about $64. This service isn't a necessity but just another recommended service to boost profits of the automotive service industry. If your brake fluid system has not been contaminated by anything chances are you can avoid this service with no dire consequences. At this point I told the salesman to just finish the oil change and tire rotation and I called a friend of mine who was an ASE Certified Mechanic on his thoughts. He agreed the prices seemed awfully inflated. Mostly on the parts and somewhat on labor. The salesman then had the rude audacity to tell me next time I bring something in for a free brake check and I have my own mechanic they would charge me. I informed him that it wasn't that I had my own mechanic but that there was no way I had $1000 to do my brakes that I was expecting to get everything taken care of for about $300. I've been bringing my truck here for more than a year for my oil changes. I've always paid for the full service oil change just to make sure all my fluids are topped up. Well I took my truck here for its latest oil change and left it to run accross to the shipping center accross Thomas. I guess I should have stayed.. Like I usually do.. Here it is not quite two weeks later and my truck started making unusual noises.. Come to find out my oil filter has not been changed, I'm down more than 2 quarts of oil, my radiator is empty and my transmission fluid is gunky. Suffice it to say I will not be coming back and I will be looking into filing a complaint with the BBB. So my advice is that if you want to bring your vehicle here, make sure you stay and watch what they do to your automobile. As for me, I'm looking at having to have my engine completely cleaned of burnt oil and transmission fluid and hope I won't have to get a new transmission or engine. read more

I had an awesome experience at the Brake Masters on Thomas and 38th st in Phoenix. I had 2 cars serviced there today, one was an average oil change, in and out in about 30 minutes. My second car "I was told by the Chevy dealer needed motor mounts, of course the dealer was the most expensive. I tried 2 other full Service shops to compare prices both on THOMAS and both near this Brake Masters. Well I'm still waiting for both to call me back with their quote. It's been over a week, no call. Brake Masters took my car in and within the hour had the problem diagnosed. To my surprise none of the mounts were broken. Rocky recommended to bring it back in 6 months and he would look again to see if they had gotten worse! Rocky and Brake masters has my highest recommendation. Rarely do you find someone this honest. I kept getting suckered by the coupons, but I've stopped going here since whenever they "fix" something, I often find myself at 25th St Automotive a few weeks later getting it permanently fixed. But, they do free brake inspections and if you make sure they install OEM brake parts instead of advertised specials which WILL squeek badly then BM can be a good option. I've taken my 2007 Prius to this location for oil changes for the past couple of years. They've always taken an overall look at things and they've never identified a problem outside of worn tires and brakes that would need to be replaced sooner rather than later. The past two times that I've gone, they've had a different person at the desk. When I went for my oil change last week (there was a different person at the desk this time), they told me that I needed to have my struts replaced (~$900) and an alignment (~$150). I couldn't have the work done that day, so I left, planning to bring it back another time. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to take it to the shop where I had the hybrid battery replaced earlier this year. They treated me well and, I figured, why not get a second estimate? They gave me a price, which was right in line with Brake Masters, but the tech also offered to put it up on the lift and check things out. When he brought me over to look under the car at the struts (and the shocks, too), he told me there was nothing wrong with the struts and, in fact. thought they looked really good. He said he really couldn't sell me new ones in good conscience. Maybe it was an honest mistake. Maybe they were working off the fact that the car has 107K miles on it and probably needed them instead of an actual inspection. But needless to say, I'm really glad I got a second opinion. read more

I have had nothing but good experiences here and thats even after paying $3800.00 for a repair on my truck! I took my truck there in a dire emergency when I ran from another Brakemasters down the road(a younger less experienced crew), the difference here is much more than the location. the difference is that the crew and staff here doesn't B.S. or Sugarcoat, they are actually committed to repairs and improving the situation you bring them, whether its a oil change, brake change or numerous other things, they are the ONLY Shop I will bring my truck to. I appreciate Chris at the front desk and the crew he has in the bays. They all helped me fix my issue and get back to work. Initial problem: contaminated brake system locked up my axle and nearly destroyed my truck, talked to Chris and ordered the correct parts and let them get to work, after 3-5 days they returned my truck to me repaired and in complete working order. the problem today: I needed a oil change and after my check oil light came on I realized I needed to get it changed due to the fact I did not have the time to change it myself, took it in, Spoke to Chris and had the, change the oil, Hung out inside and had a friendly chat with him and the patrons inside. Please note: the one thing i always hear when I'm inside, other customers stories about how they came from another shop that messed up their vehicle. Yes you can take your vehicle to another shop but this shop has hard working people that actually do their job and take pride in their work. After having my oil changed at a shop down the street that quoted me in excess of $400 for a myriad of recommended repairs, I asked Brake Masters for a second opinion. First and foremost, the customer service was phenomenal. The wait wasn't long to inspect and clean my brakes, flush the transmission fluid, and replace my air filters. The team communicated often concerning their findings and the cost was much less than the first shop. They saved me a brake job, power steering flush, money, and more importantly, time. So I'm new in town and needed a oil change. Went here and am soooo glad I did. After calling around this place charged a whole %50 less then everywhere else i checked. I drive a smart and the oil changes for it are normally more expensive then most cars cause it requires a full synthetic oil cause of its super tiny engine. So before i knew any better i used to pay like over $100 for oil changes cause auto shops kept scamming and taking advantage of me. I now work in the auto industry and deal w/ estematics, so now I finally know what its supposed to cost and went in this shopping for a oil change battle and ready to fight, auto bodys are notorious for scamming women, so i wasnt about to let that happen this time. Well i didnt have to here They were honest, friendly, clean, charged fairly on the oil and had a fair labor rate. Was in and out in 30 minutes and they even gave me a lil coupon. This place had a very nice guy helping at the front, however, when I went in for a basic oil change, my tires were in dire need of air. So, as this is standard with any oil change, I figured they'd correct the pressure. As I was walking to my car, I could tell there was no air put in my tires, so I started my car and the air pressure light came on. After going back in, TWICE, they finally had the guy come out and check the pressure. He LIED to my FACE and said everything was good to go. Because the tire pressure light was still on, I drove a few blocks down the road to Discount Tire and had them check. ALL TIRES but one was at the correct pressure. DO NOT GO HERE!!! The answer i got from the shop attendant was: "You will have to replace the entire fuel pump assembly with the total cost of $770." LOL I'm very much offended that they tried to con me.
