Bovine's was recommended to us by a friend when we first started vacationing in Surfside Beach in 1995. It quickly become one of our family favorites and was usually one of the first restaurants we went to when here. We sometimes came twice during our 2 week stay, because we could count on having a delicious meal. We especially liked the Pizza. However, I feel as though the quality of the food has gone downhill in the last few years. The pizza is nothing like it used to be. It's unfortunate because the location is great and has a nice ambiance. Given the fact that there are so many other restaurants in the area, we will probably not be coming back. read more

Cool place with a great location at the marshwalk. We went on a Friday evening at 6:30, so we were surprised to get sat with no wait. Decided to have a couple drinks and share some plates. Drinks were ok, salad bar was ok, meatballs were 'eh'..pizza was good. Service was friendly and laid back.. a little too laid back when we were waiting to cash out. The draw of this place is definitely the location. Nice to grab a drink at one of the outside bars and walk the pier, listening to one of the live bands many of the spots seem to offer. The place being empty at dinner hour should have been a sign. Salad bar is fresh but limited in choices. I had shrimp and grits which was swimming in sauce. With so many restaurants up and down The Grand Strand, and more tucked in the narrow highway in Murrells Inlet, it's easy to give up and settle for just any one. But if you should make it to Myrtle Beach, definitely take a drive along Murrells Inlet (Mickey Spillane has a house there). There, the 2-lane highway is shaded by large oak trees, and charming mini-mansions and houses tucked alongside restaurants. Most restaurants have a view of the marshland. Bovine's always garner a visit from us when we are visiting family and friends. Given its namesake, definitely have the steak. However, it is the signature side of their corn pudding that gets my visit pumped. Custard-smooth corn pudding that tastes so sweet. Heaven. read more

Food was nothing like it used to be ! Way overpriced and filet was terrible ! Wood fired salmon was terribly small portion. Salad bar was disgusting and a mess ! Hadn't been in years but will not be going back or recommending to others ! Snow Crab was way over cooked and tough and dry ! No bibs for eating crab or lobster , crackers but no picks ! We had a party of 8 and service was actually one of the worst experiences we've had in Murrells Inlet. With all of the many restaurants to choose from, drop this one!!!!! Keep walking, go to Dead Dog, Claw House, Wicked Tuna anywhere but this place. Reservations were for 6:30 and at 8:15 we left, no food.... we were hungry! Manager is junior league and isn't accommodating, would rather argue with you than make things right. We're done. Don't argue when the customer is hungry. So called " owner" told us if we weren't happy "leave"... Really?? So we did. 8 of us returning customers were so turned off by this experience, it's over. We usually have a wonderful experience here and make it a point to come at least once a week when we come here for vacations, however, this time wasn't very good. The food wasn't very good, the server was three days new and very overwhelmed with tables, he forgot one of our dishes, our drinks took 20 minutes, one of his tables walked out in him and we heard him get reamed out by another table. BUT the manager was super awesome and came over and gave us a gift certificate, took off my moms meal since she didn't eat it (shrimp and grits she said it tasted weird) and the waiter was apologetic. Not sure if some of us will give it another chance but I think I will considering we've been going for years and this was a fluke incident! My suggestion is order the STEAK. The clam chowder was more like bacon chowder with a couple clams. Mediocre. Wife had the filet and lobster tail. Filet totally lacked flavor, had a very poor sear, but was cooked to the right temperature. The lobster tail was chewy and bland. I had the BBQ-chicken and ribs. The chicken was ok. The ribs were bland, had zero smoke flavor, zero smoke ring, and the BBQ sauce was the ONLY flavor involved. The vegetables on the side were bland. I ordered the Caesar salad, and it seemed to be iceberg lettuce, dry croutons, and salad dressing that tasted like bottled dressing. Server was neither knowledgeable nor efficient. We were Able to walk right In on a Saturday evening. Probably not a great sign when every place else had a wait. Took one bite of the corn pudding and left the rest on the plate. The catch of the day was red snapper it was good. Shrimp and grits were runny. Smoked oysters were ok, a couple of them tasted "funny". I don't even know where to start, i know that i would neverrrr want to eat here again. My husband and i rarely go out for dinner, this was our big cheat meal, so needless to say i was excited to eat lol. The appetizer my husband and i received.. cheese fries was literally a baked potato cut into quarters with nacho cheese all over them . I got the special, sirloin with vegetables and what i thought was a seafood mix. Our waitress explained as a lobster, crab side. My steak.. was ok. The vegetables, a mushy disgusting mess, i don't know how anyone could eat that. And my 'side' ... first i said to my husband, i don't even know what this is.. it looked like it was a week old, perfectly cut square of idk what. After picking it apart to investigate, it was a slab of pasta, hard pasta. I took one bite to try it... and good god, it was my seafood side. I don't know how this place isn't embarrassed to serve something like that. As a waitress i would be embarrassed to put that in front of my customer. Do not go here, waste of your money! read more

We didn't eat there so I have no opinion on the food. Short story- rude service!! Long story- I stopped by with three of my girl friends to get a drink. Half of the bar had people sitting at it and the other half was completely empty. We grabbed a seat on the empty side and took a look at the drink menu. The bartender seemed to know the people on the other side of the bar so was busy talking to them and didn't walk over for a bit which was fine. When he did we asked him about the prices and about the area. He seemed annoyed to be answering questions instead of taking orders and when there was a pause in the conversation walked back over to his friends. He finally came over a while later and asked to check our IDs. He seemed so annoyed and I asked if it was a busy night glancing around to the half empty seats around the bar. He responded saying he was swamped and when we glanced to check the name of the drink we wanted to order he walked away again. I got the sense he was annoyed that we were on the younger side and just wanted to tend to his friends. After he walked away the second time I was done with the rude service and left. I felt he was unnecessaryily rude to us because we weren't locals or his friends that he took shots with. read more

The people that work here are very sweet, but the food is mediocre at best. When I am down south, I expect big meaty portions and well-seasoned food. This place charged a lot, gave very little food and the food wasn't good. This place is trying too hard to be an upscale joint. They should focus more on presenting a high quality food product. read more

I'm on the fence here people... The negative reviews seem to be consistent. I made the mistake of reading through all the reviews AFTER this place was decided for my mom-in-laws birthday. I think it dampened my experience, because I found myself looking for all the bad while I was there instead of just enjoying myself. I ordered the Island Style Pizza because I like Hawaiian pizza. It was very mild and not exactly popping with flavor. I think I failed to read the description that it was coated with oil, not tomato sauce. The spinach and artichoke dip we ordered was very good. My other family members enjoyed all of their dishes - so our food was fine. The best part was the decor - it was right by the water with a nice view (despite the large boat in front). The wood fire smell really gave it a nice warm feel. So take all these reviews for what they're worth - Like any place, there's good experiences and bad. This place certainly isn't a dump... The steak was absolutely amazing, and that's what has saved this review. The salad bar was ok just enough to call it a bar. The food was amazing. The servers were friendly. The waiting area was super crowded and a hateful old women hit me as I was carrying my 3 y.o daughter outside and caused me to break the toothpick holder, I tried to help pick it up but ended up getting glass in my hand. Absolutely the best, juiciest, flavorful, tender steaks my husband and I have ever had! Cowboy ribeye for both of us! Every bite was amazing! Decided to dine here twice this year! Went for the prime rib special on Wednesday. Price was ok but the prime rib was mediocre at best. Smallish cut and not much taste. Probably not usda prime cut. Salad bar had the usual fare. You get one trip with the special. Looking at menu saw the steak was expensive so hope the cuts were better than the prime rib for that price. We had oysters as an appetizer and didn't finish the half dozen; can't explain the taste but it was horrible. Highlights were the service and the desert. Even don't know what to start from - everything was PERFECT!!! Food was delicious. They have really reach menu to choose from. My wife got NY strip, which was properly cooked. I've got "Bovines Deluxe" pizza. Seriously , guys, the pizza I've tried there was probably the best pizza in my life!!! They also have really huge salad bar. Had a burger for lunch. They didn't ask how I wanted it cooked. It came out overdone for my taste, but nicely seasoned. Service was great. A great view for lunch at the water and they added a lot of outdoor place. Same night I took home three different small pizzas. Very disappointed. They tasted like bread with some toppings and sauce. We almost didn't go after reading all the poor reviews but decided to give it a try. Glad we did! The atmosphere is nice with a great view! It's a place that you can go casual but also can dress up a little if you want. The hush puppies they bring you when you get seated are addictive!! Sweet and moist. We had the steak egg rolls which were delicious. Got 2 pizzas which we both liked and another had steak tips. Couldn't finish any meals after all the apps. Service was fabulous! Bovines is located in Murrells Inlet at the first stop of the Marshwalk. You can park right in front of the restaurant or across the street. They have plenty of seating so its good for groups and they do take reservations. Most of the tables have views of the water. If you sit in the bar area they open up the garage doors to bring in some fresh air and the deck is so nice overlooking the water. You can then hear the live music at wahoos when they have it. They start the meal with complimentary hush puppies with sweet butter and they have a salad bar too that most of the entrees include. Meals vary from Pastas and salads, to seafood and steaks so there's something for everyone. I normally get a steak here. They have a wood fired grill inside next to the salad bar and anything on that grill comes out tasting delicious. They also have a brick oven for pizzas but I've never tried them. Though one of my family members enjoyed their buffalo chicken pizza. The steaks come with 2 sides and the salad bar so its plenty of food. Get the mac and cheese as a side. Its so yummy!! The salad bar is nothing to write home about but it hits the spot. Its fresh and has plenty of toppings for your salad including tuna salad and things of that nature. Perfect place to have dinner and then walk off your calories through the marshwalk when you're done. read more

Food is not good for what you pay for. Drinks are expensive and food is bland. Staff is never happy.

We've eaten here before, but this time is for a visit we walked out on. Before I start, please know that we are not cheap. We spend alot of money on eating out. Because of this, and the fact that there are so many restaurants to choose from, I hold these restaurants to a high standard, including pre-meal experience. We looked up the menu for bovines online. Nothing sounded terrific. I wanted something different from the same old steak and baked potato or seafood entree. I narrowed it down to two choices. They had an interesting meatloaf dish that sounded interesting, and they had a great selection of wood fired pizza, which they are known for. I looked and on the online menu, I could get a pizza for $13, and add their salad bar for $6 (their salad bar is average. Nothing to brag about, but still a decent salad). So we drive the 1/2 hour to bovines, and when we're seated, I notice that almost everything on the menu is $2 more than online (?). I then notice that there is no meatloaf (upon my asking, waitress said they took it off the menu. Apparently not the one online, though). So I went to my second choice- pizza and salad. I looked and saw that even though online said $6 to add salad, the menu said $10. Now you might say it's only a $4 difference. But it's the principal. They are deceiving the public. They are advertising a small pizza with salad for $19.95, but when you get there, it's $24 (again, for a small pizza and salad). We decided they didn't deserve our mone. We left and we won't be back. We headed over to socastee station and had a huge chicken quasadilla (at least an inch thick) for $5, awesome nachos for $6, and a FULL rack of ribs for $11.95. Washed them down with $2 drafts. Not as much atmosphere, but I felt like we got an honest meal. Shame on you, bovines! read more

The family ate dinner here one evening. There were a lot of people there but because of the multiple rooms, it was very comfortable and not noisy. We were seated looking at the harbor. Everything was very prepared, starting with the excellent hush puppies. The steaks were very good. Mussels were in a very tasty broth. I will say I prefer a broiled seafood, and they only offered fried. Salad bar came with the meals and it was very fresh. The only negative was our waitress was not very prompt in servicing us. This place is out on the marsh, so if you are expecting a "gorgeous waterfront view", you might be a bit misled. The service was excellent and attentive. Drinks from the bar seemed a bit watered down. Our meals came with a salad bar, and the portions are HUGE. My ribs were a tad dry, but my spouse's steak was amazing. Very disappointed. We sat for 10 minutes and still no server. Finally went and asked at the bar. Turns out the hostess hadn't bothered to tell anyone that we were sitting outside. Took another 5 minutes before our waitress showed up. The steaks had no flavor and were not cooked to order and we had to send back. The wings were just okay. The pizza tasted like a frozen one. We were greeted with southern hospitality the minute we arrived. The view of the inlet was stunning. Known for their steaks still grilled over a wood stoked grill gave the tenderloin a wonderful natural flavor. The sweet iced tea was the best I have had since arriving in SC. Food FINALLY came after another 40 mins! The food was OK, but nothing to write home about. The server was condescending and basically rude. She was much better toward the end of the meal, but first impressions..... The bartender acted like we were bothering him when we went up to order our drinks (since we waited so long for our order to be taken at our table), and didn't want to tell us about the drink specials.
