    Steak bowl
    Kay F.

I have heard great things about Bovine but had only recently been able to make it out for a visit due to the fact that they are only open during lunch time during weekdays. I finally found myself in the area and knew that I had to try this place out! They have a very limited offering (mostly rice bowls) but what they do - they do unbelievably well! I got the steak bowl and found that the meat was so unbelievably juicy and delicious. There is a constant lineup when they are open but I found that it moved quite fast. They are only takeout but they do have two tables outside that you can sit and eat at. It is now a must visit for me if I'm ever in the area when they are open!

The regular steak bowl was a good portion. The flavour was okay but not great. I couldn't chew through half of the steak pieces because they were too tough. Overall not impressed. The fried chicken sandwich was not bad, but again nothing special.

Congratulations on your 3rd year Anniversary! @bovinevancouver You don't want to miss this Anniversary Special Hokkaido Bowl ($24) They have limited to 10 bowls a day until June 18, 2021. They only open from 11am - 3pm. All premium seafood and steak in 1 bowl. It has Signature Steak topped with Shredded Rock Crab meat, Prawns and Yuzu Hollandaise, Torched Scollops and Ikura on hot rice Yeah, the rice bowl is still hot after taking lots of photos. The steaks are medium rare and perfect. All premium seafood are fresh and prawns are firm. They go very well with the rich, creamy Hollandaise with a hint of Yuzu. My taste buds are in heaven . The portion is filling and put me into food coma They also have Roast Beef Bowl on special for $8 for this anniversary promotion. Roast Beef Bowl

I love ordering from Bovine - it's super to my office and their portion sizes are ample. I typically alternate between their roast beef bowl and curry bowl. Every time I get the roast beef bowl, it's SO tender and flavourful. The egg - is perfectly cooked - not too runny or overcooked. It feels like I'm eating at the restaurant versus just takeout!

A new addition to the downtown lunch scene! I got the Roast Beef Lunch set - Roast beef, 64 degrees egg, onion sauce, white sauce, rice and topped with salad and choice of drink for $15 (I got the Philips Orange cream soda!) Staff were helpful even though it was busy during the lunch rush. I took my bowl to-go and it tasted great. The roast beef was tender, the sauce was onion-y and the egg so oh so goo-ey I really like this bowl, but would consider to see what other feature bowls they offer This is pretty much a to-go place, they only have seating inside for 2-3 people but they offer a water station, which is a nice touch. So far, Bovine offers mainly beef rice bowls, but they also offer a feature bowl (so for those who are looking for plant-based meals, might have to ask if Bovine can make modifications Doesn't look like they have a website yet, so checking out their Instagram page might be helpful to see what their feature bowl is #iloverice

Health and deliciousness in a bowl! Got a steak and eggplant bowl during their dineout special ($15) - was a pretty decent amount of food, with a good balance of proteins and greensss. Would recommend if you want some healthier lunch options in the downtown Vancouver area :)

Bovine is probably one of my favorite lunch spots in the city! They have the best rice bowls with premium quality food at an affordable price! I ordered food delivery to my work for their slow roast beef bowl.. And to be quite frank! It didn't taste like delivery at all! The beef was so tender and so soft and flavourful they slow roast their beef overnight! I love their egg as well although I usually prefer my egg yolks to be a bit runny it still works and has great texture with the rice and beef. The sauce with the rice is also very delicious with super umami flavours. Everything about this bowl is just right!

Visited: March 19 2019 I took advantage of Ritual's $1 food festival and decided to give their roast beef bowl a try. I place the order when the restaurant opened and the food was ready in less than 1/2 hour. The pickup was easy and seamless. I like that they have the option to replace the rice with salad and that's what I did. The roast beef was absolutely delicious; very tender and full of flavour. The roast beef's texture was almost reminiscent of pulled-pork because it was so juicy and tender. I was afraid that I wouldn't be full but the beef portions were overly generous. I finished the salad and there were still tons of beef leftover. The salad was lightly dressed and came with a 64 degree egg, caramelized onion sauce and a white sauce. I will definitely come back again to try their other bowls.

I had been eyeing this place on my walks to Fujiya ever since they were under construction... then balked a little at the price of their bowls. When Ritual offered the $1 foodie week I desperately tried to place an order, only to be rejected as their system was overloaded with orders... finally I decided to make the plunge and ordered their Roast Beef Bowl and boy was it delicious! The poached egg was perfectly cooked with a runny center that mixed perfectly into the rice bowl. The beef was flavourful and tender and worked really well with the rice and sauce. I asked for the white sauce on the side and they were able to accommodate that as well. Although a bit steep in price, you can tell they take pride in their food and every bowl is carefully assembled. I would recommend anyone to give Bovine a shot!

4.5 stars Personally I think this shop has a good concept and heading towards great success, as most of the ingredients are probably cooked sous-vide allowing for a perfect cook every time as well as fast preparation which is perfect for those who work downtown. Decor is chic and modern. Very fair prices at $12-14 a bowl. The beef is amazing and melts in your mouth, I tried both the ribeye roast beef and the steak. The egg is nice, however I personally prefer the yolk to still be runny. The rice however could improve, it's quite hard. Could also use more sauce which was tasty. The portions are good and I am comfortably full afterwards. They also have limited seating outside and some tables for 2 outside. Would return!

Roast beef bowl half rice half salad

The roast beef bowl was good, but not because this place is good - it's because it's REALLY hard to go wrong with roses beef, rice, and egg. As long as these ingredients are at least so-so, you're gonna end up with a pretty tasty bowl. The roast beef was good but there were clumps of it strewn all over my bowl. In their pic there have it beautifully laid out on top of the rice. It's a big difference. The egg is a little over done. If they are supposed to be a Japanese roast beef bowl place, it's supposed to be a little runnier. Also, if an egg is an essential part of a dish, eggs with a darker, more flavorful yolk would do wonders to the dish. Way too much sauce. I didn't actually taste much roast beef, I tasted the sauce and felt the texture of meat. The staff was really nice and efficient. When I asked for half rice, she said she can toss in salad for the half rice. I appreciate stuff like this. So yeah, I liked it, I'll definitely come again, but this place could be even better, and so much better!

This is the second spot I'm trying out thanks to an app offer for a $1 serve - here it was a Roast Beef Bowl. It's a tiny, but gorgeous little spot that's looks set up very much as a takeout nook with limited communal table space. I think I was just ahead of the lunch rush when I walked in to pick up my order, there were a number of people waiting for theirs and a counter with a healthy stack of open orders. My surprisingly substantial bowl was handled to me with a smile, and niceties sent me on my way. My photo really doesn't really do this dish justice: the roast beef was perfectly seasoned, cooked just under medium - a hint of pink, tender and so Ono! Accompanied by that excellent egg, fragrant caramelised onion sauce and a tasty mystery white sauce and fresh pea shoots ... all the deliciousness. The only thing that I didn't love was the rice, it felt a little stodgy to me, even for short grain, like it was cooked with just a bit too much water. Doesn't mean I didn't eat more rice from that bowl that I needed though - the sauces... so moreish! So stoked with this find, and at a bargain today too! While a substantial lunch like this won't be an everyday thing, I'm looking forward to trying more from Bovine Rice Bowls.

Are you a corporate slave occupying a little desk in one of the canopies of the Bentall concrete jungle? Are you sick of the options (or lack thereof) available to you for lunch and dinner? Bovine changes that. Jeremy and Peter, the visionaries behind the first outpost of Japanese cuisine inspired rice-bowl fare, presents balanced and varied bowls of premium rice topped with lovingly prepared protein and delicate greens and umami-rich sauce. The anchor menu items come with a perfectly poached luscious egg prepared in their shells, inside a cutting-edge vapor oven. The bowls come in two sizes and range approx. $12-17, which is great value, given the premium ingredients and generous protein portions. There isn't anything quite like it in Vancouver so it is definitely worth a try and don't blame me if you get hooked.

Steep as it is, I decided I wanted a "quick little sushi lunch with a view", and a quick little sushi lunch with a few is exactly what I received. Although I don't recommend it, I walked right in from the street, no reservation, and was seated at the bar (in pretty casual street clothes I may add). I enjoyed a premium sake flight (which was fine...just fine), an old fashioned served with the perfect accompanying dark chocolate, and a good amount of sushi including their signature aburi style sushi in flight form and nigiri tuna flight (bluefin, chutoro, otoro). After visiting Japan last December, I'm a bit of an otoro snob but I have to hand it to them, all three of these cuts were perfect. The accompanying rice, perfection. The quality of the fish, divine. The view was the cherry on top of this experience. This will certainly be a spot I revisit next time I'm in Vancouver.

Maybe it's an American thing to linger and enjoy a dining experience. To stay longer than needed to…read moresoak up the ambiance and give a good moment some extra time for memories. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

Me, I know nothing about Izakaya or what is or isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, so this review is coming from someone with zero knowledge or expectation of any specific foods or experiences. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).

Every guest is seated around the bar where they can watch the rolls being made fresh. Upon being seated you place your order by marking a piece of paper. We started off with cocktails: kaiju en neguroni and peach pafekuto and they were both refreshing. We each ordered a few rolls and my fave is the unagi hand roll. The unagi was flame-torched right in front of me. Prices are on the expensive side with small portions, but everything tasted fresh.

We picked up the 16-piece Premium Cut Rolls (toro, yellowtail, scallop, and truffle lobster), and the quality really showed in the taste. Everything was clean, fresh, and well-balanced -- no heavy sauces, no distractions, just really good fish. The toro was rich and smooth, the scallop was buttery, and the truffle lobster added a nice depth without overpowering the roll. Pickup was quick and seamless, and the food was packaged well for eating on the go before a flight. Portions are standard, but the flavor and quality are absolutely the highlight here. If you care more about how sushi tastes than flashy extras, Hello Nori is a great choice. Would happily come back next time.

Even on a Thursday night, the restaurant was nearly full, which speaks to its popularity. I ordered the Tako Sunomono and the Premium Chirashi Don. Tako Sunomono: The octopus was perfectly tender and the vinegar dressing was refreshing--exactly what I needed to wash away the fatigue of the day. Premium Chirashi Don: The presentation was stunning and immediately worked up my appetite. Every piece of seafood was incredibly fresh and of high quality. You can really taste the difference here. If you're looking for healthy, fresh, and beautifully presented Japanese cuisine, Shizenya is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
