Want to hear about my bizarre experience? Ordered. Paid with credit card. Waited 10-15 mins for BEEF teppan rice dish. My number was called, found a seat. Sat down ready to finally eat. Wait a minute. Realized... This is CHICKEN, not beef? I paid for beef. I want beef. Brought it back and asked if this is incorrect. Cashier apologized, took my dish back, then asked the chef. They talked for a while and cashier told me sorry I'll give you a refund because the CHEF SAID SHE DOESNT WANT TO COOK BEEF right now. What? Why not tell me that before I paid?! I asked if it could be refunded to credit card my original payment but they couldn't and needed to give me cash, which was not preferred since I'm a traveler and will be leaving Canada soon anyway. Ok I'll take the cash if no other choice. But i spent all that time waiting and I have no food now? What? It wasn't the cashier's fault and she was apologetic and put in an uncomfortable situation. Aberdeen center was our first stop in Canada so we decided to have lunch at the food court. We decided on this place as its something not common in Washington. We got the chicken teppan and the mini poutine. The chicken was super tender and good and the rice was flavorful and cooked perfectly. However, based on other pictures and review, I was expecting a little more, like corn or other things. All it came was rice and chicken for $13, so I feel it being a little pricy. The mini poutine was ok. The fries was super crispy on it's own and I would be eating that by itself, but with the cheese and the gravy, it became very soggy very fast. And it got salty. Definitely a fave whenever we go to Aberdeen food court in Richmond. My go-to dish is the NY steak with rice while the hubby always gets their smoked salmon pasta. Price is fair and portions are good. Consistency is a bit all over the place especially with their pasta - we noticed because my husband orders the same thing all the time. Definitely a REPEAT on my food list. Be careful, the hot plate is very hot. Please return to that specific restaurant in the food court when you have consumed your food. And the tray goes back to the tray return station. This was at the Aberdeen Mall food court on the 3rd floor, accessible by elevator and escalator. If going there by escalator, it is far left and beside the mall washroom. I highly recommend this place if you like milk tea and pasta, and also Salmon! Teppan kitchen at Aberdeen food court was my go to! I really like that they serve your food on a hot plate! Makes it more legit and aesthetically nice, not sure if it really keeps your food hot but it's more of a look and I loved that experience! A friend recommended me to try out Teppen kitchen so i decided to try it for dinner. There are 15 equally delicious-looking dishes available, which, for a first timer, can be overwhelming. After a couple minutes of deciding, I ordered the "A grade rib eye beef teppan rice" because I was told it was ordered often and it sounded tasty to me. Cook time took about 6-7 minutes which is a little slower than I thought it would take. At the time there were about 3 or 4 customers ahead of me, so it's understandable. Some of the other customers ordered the same dish as me in fact. I opted for the combo which includes a choice of drink and miso soup for only $1.50 more which i think is worth it. I got the milk tea. I also added 2 extra toppings of cheese and egg for $1.50 each. When the dish arrived, I thought it looked delicious with the food still sizzling on a hot iron plate. The food on the plate was arranged so the beef forms a circle and a mound of rice with a brown sauce in the middle. The egg was put in the corner and the shredded cheese was sprinkled on the top of the rice mound. As for taste, the dish was surprisingly bland as a whole unless you put a lot of the provided sauces. I added several small cups worth of a thick flavored broth and the chipotle flavored sauce that are available at the front of the stand. (They also have a bottle of Sriracha chili sauce if you like spicy stuff.) The dish tasted much better after I added the sauces. The egg was still crispy by the time I ate it and added a little more flavor to it. The shredded cheese barely added any taste to the dish. The beef was alright based on taste. They could add more seasoning on it. The beef was rather more pink than i thought it would be but I assume that is what medium rare beef looks like in contrast to the dark colored plate. The miso soup and the Milk tea tasted alright. Portion wise, as a whole, they could a little more toppings for a $10+ dish. I appreciate they give you a hot plate instead of styrofoam plates you get at many food courts. The hot plate kept my meal hot the entire time and it looks good on the table for those instagram likes. All in all, It's really not a bad value for $10-12. You might have to put a lot of their sauces at the front if you want more taste otherwise it could be a little bland like mine did. Because I got the combo, the addition of the large drink and miso soup after the large plate of food makes you pretty full at the end. I planned on having bubble tea later but canceled it because I was already full. If you are a fast eater, don't drink too fast afterwards or you'll have a bad time with your digestion. (Trust me on this.) I'll try another of their 14 other dishes someday the next time i'm at Aberdeen centre for a meal. 3.5/5 rounded up to 4. read more

We ordered the 'A' Grade Rib Eye Beef Teppan Rice. We were shocked that they cooked the beef for us (so the beef was well done) because this is not Japanese style anymore; this is HK Style. Also, the customers would not be able to tell the grade of the beef if it was fully cooked. We went back to talk to her because the picture was misleading. The cashier said that the picture was before covid-19. I told her that we ordered the dish because of the picture. She blamed me for speaking up by saying the picture was a long time ago and that they needed to cook the beef due to covid-19. If the food does not resemble the picture, then they should either change the picture or have no picture at all instead of deceiving customers. She was not apologetic at all; she told the chef to make another one 'roughly' for us. They did not really make another one for us; the beef was still cooked and there was not much sauce on the rice which was salty and nothing special (the msg was too much because it made us thirsty). They charged the same price as Pepper Lunch which is a restaurant. It was totally a rip-off and absolutely unethical. read more

The quality has extremely gone down since the last time I've ordered here. Not sure if they changed ownership or what, but the previous operator (Brian) took care of each and every order. He made sure that, even if it was a take out order, the food is presentable and contains all of the ingredients it normally contains. Today, I ordered the standard Rib-Eye on rice and inside my container was the most under whelming meal. Lackluster portion of barely cooked beef on top of cold crusty rice And 2 kernels of corn. Not to mention they forgot my drink. Where's the sauce? The drizzle of spicy mayo and the green onions and a reasonable portion corn? Where is the care and the attention that I know Teppan Kitchen Is capable of. Anyway, this latest experience is a complete waste of time, expectation and money. Very similar to Pepper Lunch that I've tried in Hong Kong. Ordered the rib eye beef teppan rice and it was a huge serving of rice with some beef, corn and a delicious egg! Usually I like to have Saboten in that food court, today I wanted something different. I ordered smoked salmon pasta with citrus cream sauce. Taste of sauce was good. I like that they added citrus so the sauce won't be that greasy. However, the sauce was watery like soup. Portion was small. I expected they gave me more pasta. what a nice meal on a sizzling plate! always been a fan of this place... tried the beef and chicken entrees....beef was thinly sliced and placed raw on the plate allowing the hot sizzling plate to cook the beef to perfection. chicken was already cooked with a good touch of ginger teri sauce..,,leaving the chicken juicy and succulent. rice was cooked perfectly as well and a good portion of vegs compliments the meal. add $1 for a cold drink makes a meal come out to $10. better choice than hot pepper lunch as that place is stingy and an entree cost around $13-$14 no drink yet! 4 stars coz i think they could've been a littlemore generous with the meat... but service was fast, food came hot and fresh! taste was all there! even came with miso soup! happy eating! read more

I was craving some rice for lunch so I decided to give this place to try. I'm still a little bitter that this place took over my beloved egg puff shop but... I've cried my river, built the bridge and I'm slowly getting over it. I ordered the grilled spicy sausage and it was very flavorful but a bit on the salty side probably due to all the sauces they drizzle on top. I like the fact that you get to mix up the rice yourself to spread the flavor around as you like. It was a good amount of spicy and the portion was just right. Your rice comes with a side of miso soup and you can add a drink for $1. The order came out quickly and presentation was really decent for food court food. Probably about time I write a review for Teppan Kitchen. I've probably had their Lunch Special (AA Beef on rice with Miso Soup and Drink for $8.50) 3-4 times. The slices of beef come thinly sliced and raw in the middle but the hot plate will soon cook them up to a tender taste. The rice is topped with corn, green onions and a drizzle of Brown Sugar Soy Sauce and Ginger Soy Sauce. If you leave the rice undisturbed on the hot plate, it caramelizes into crispy rice - one of the main highlights for serving rice on a hot plate. It's very similar, if not the same as Pepper Lunch, but the only difference is the lack of excessive pepper. The miso soup is a little too salty for me. The drinks are a good size and I like the Milk Tea for its decent tea flavour. They have lots of other options like Chicken, Unagi, AAA Grade Beef, Ribeye, and even Fish & Chips! They have all the typical asian drinks to choose from like Ribena, Lemon Tea, Milk Tea, Green Tea, Lemon Water, etc... But honey costs 50 cents extra! If they're not at peak times, the meal comes within 5 or so minutes. They accept credit cards. Overall, a decent place to grab some lunch or dinner. read more

I have gone here a few times, usually getting the daily special which is a beef teppan on rice with miso soup and a drink. I usually add an egg and if I feel like it sometimes some cheese. Averaging about $10 for the meal with the add ons. They serve their meals on a sizzling hot platter where you can choose to leave your beef on it to cook more or simply have it the way it is. One thing I don't like about this place is they inconsistently are able to serve me a hot platter (always a different person making the dish). Nice, innovative solution to food court food. There is a suggested way to eat this food, but anyway you like it is the best. Hot plate food in a food court conveniennce and at moderate prices. You get more rice than meat, but if the meat is top quality then maybe it's not so bad afterall. However, you don't get much meat. but do we really need that much meat? For me, I can't really eat here. I can't eat rice. Too bad so sad. I'm Asian and can't eat rice. It's my drug, my alchohol, my crutch. Yes, so sad. I love rice in more ways than one "wink wink" I love Chinese rice "wink wink" OK now that sounds pretty dumb. So what am i getting at hear? I like this place. I like the concept, but it's not for me. My friend likes it, but then again she can eat rice. The sauces are pretty good too. In a western food court this will do well. In an Asian food court? maybe not as well with the competition providing items bigger, more meat for the same price or less. Mind you. ingredients are probably not the same and the car and consideration in prepping the food is not either. But in a place like Aberdeen's food court, time will tell to see how well the consumers will adopt this new style of food court foods. I think it's the way to go. One of my go to places at Aberdeen foodcourt. Very consistent and it's similar to Peppers lunch except it has more options with the sauces and different variety of combinations. Also it has Hong Kong style drinks like milk tea, iced lemon tea etc. I usually get the featured beef combo that comes with a drink and miso soup. The price is fair under $10 and its good value for how much you pay. The Hong Kong style drink is a bonus for me and I really enjoy it. I never know what to eat at the Aberdeen food court, and I tired out teppan kitchen because my friend told me it was super good. We both ordered the lunch special (AA beef + rice + miso soup + drink) and I was pretty happy with it. I think it's a really good value for about $9. I decided to add an egg because I love eggs, while my friend added egg + cheese. It was definitely filling, but I felt like there was more rice than beef. It doesn't taste super peppery like pepper lunch, and they give you sauces as well. The miso soup was just normal, but the honey lemon tea was really good. It's not that sweet which is exactly how I like it. Overall I do think pepper lunch is a little better? I feel like they give you more meat and I do like the peppery taste. This place has become my favourite place to eat in the Aberdeen food court. Prices are decent and the portion will definitely fill you up. There's different daily specials that includes a free drink. Their drinks are just typical chinese restaurant drink choices, nothing impressive but not bad either. Miso soup always comes with whatever you order. Wait time is not too long. One thing I must say is that I find that I need to stir the rice and meat around quite a bit, to get the meat all cooked as it isn't well done when it comes to you, and the rice needs to be stirred so the teppan doesn't make it too sticky and gritty. Some people like that though so I guess it's a personal preference thing but I get real pissed off when food gets stuck on my teeth n then i spend an hour poking at it with my tongue to get it off after... other than the stirring effort i do love the food very much. I've had the ribeye and the pork which were both just delicious. They do put cracked pepper over it and I find that if you ask for a bit extra it has better flavouring. You can also get different kinds of sauces from the counter if you'd like. I've never had any of the sauces because I like my food more on the plain/original flavouring side but a lot of people do take them so I am assuming they don't taste nasty.. I've also had the linguini (?) their one pasta dish and it really was just mediocre. Tomato saucy with some small scallops and shrimps here and there..I think the rice dishes are better but if you want something different this is not bad but not anything impressive. I never feel bloated or thirsty after a meal My favourite is the wok fried udon with spicy chicken and sausage!!! I had to share it last time with the boyfriend that's my only complaint lol. I did not even see anything like that in Toronto. The price is cheap. We order 2 hot plate beef one with rice, another one is with linguini. Each cost $7.5 plus tax with $1 extra for linguini. Although it is in the Aberdeen Centre food court, each set lunch comes with an 8-9 inches tall drink that there are many kinds to choose from. Each dish is served with a hot metal plate sizzling all the way. The store is thoughtful enough to have a 2 inches tall paper wrap around the teppan. After eating the rice, the bottom is burn to form a rice crust that is another delicious food item. It is a nice lunch. read more

I have had a good experience there with the quality and quantity of the food so I expected to have the same experience at this location. I was disappointed. I ordered the A grade rib eye beef teppan rice combo, which comes with a miso soup and a drink ( I ordered the lemon ice tea. ) I have had this dish at the Downtown location and it is my favourite. The Aberdeen location had significantly less beef given in my dish than I had experienced at the Downtown location. The beef was also EXTREMELY fatty, so they clearly were cheaping out on their product. I would say 80% of the beef given to me was fat. The dish itself was still good however I was very disappointed in the quality and quantity of the dish. It really felt like the typical Asian place that is trying to cut corners which in the end cuts quality. To make up for the lack of beef provided, they gave me an bigger serving of rice. I really dislike restaurants or establishments that try to "trick" their customers into thinking they are getting what they paid for by using fillers such as rice and vegetables to make their dish look big. This place reminds me of a chain in Asia called Pepper Lunch, except the chain in Asia has really perfected the art of fast teppan steak lunches. Teppan Kitchen, offers pretty much the same dishes, but they need to work on the flavor and preparation. The presentation and aromas from the dish were alluring, but the flavor was underwhelming - just didn't pack a punch. Also, the iron plate should be piping hot to give the rice on the bottom that nice crunch. A little less sauce might help, by the time I sat down the rice was a little too soggy-squishy...that shouldn't happen! In this case, quantity killed the quality..besides they have a bottle on the counter for those who want more sauce. I've been here twice, so I can't say I just had a bad order that one time. Sadly, it is the only place of its kind that I've found here so far. So I really mean it when I say, I hope they pay attention to Yelp comments. I miss my Pepper Lunch. read more

My friend wanted something hot so I suggested to get the hot plate or the hot pot and she chose the hot place at teppan kitchen. She chose the A grade beef with added cheese combo with one drink and miso soup ($10 plus tax). Service was quick despite orders coming in at a gradual pace. I was off to another vendor at the food court so when I came back I had some of her plate and was not impressed. It smelled a lot better than it tasted. Not entirely sure what was the huge turn off but I did not want another spoon and remembered a better experience at pepper lunch. #1 Beef Teppan 4/5 stars I've tried the Spicy Sausage teppan before, and this one is just as good, if not better! I opted to add egg, cheese and garlic chips for an additional 0.75 each! The beef is served to you still partially uncooked. You cook the beef on the hot plate yourself by mixing the rice together. There were about eight pieces of beef. The beef was nicely sheared, flavourful and very tender. The rice itself has bits of scallions and corn. Once mixed together, the flavours of the beef, egg, and cheese go really well together! Don't forget to add their sauces! My personal favourite is the garlic butter soy sauce. Each teppan comes with a complimentary miso soup. The miso soup was alright. It was a little too water downed. On the plus side, it didn't taste like MSG. read more

Absolutely loved the sauces that were in the rice and on my tonkatsu. The fact that they let you add more sauce if you need is a nice plus too! I really enjoyed the meal since I usually don't expect much from the food court, but it's great that the teppan (iron plate) let's me eat slowly and still have my food nice and warm. :) If you want a nice filling meal at this food court, I'd so go for some teppan!
