Salmon Sashimi ($6.95) and California Roll ($3.75): both great choices and great value!
Jack W.

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE You've got my vote for 4 or 5 stars when good food is available fast and at a good price, payable with credit card (i.e. not having to worry about pesky cash)! === 2. FOOD This is the only option for sushi in the Aberdeen food court, and that's not an issue! We enjoyed on this visit: - Salmon Sashimi ($6.95): Smooth, buttery salmon that fatty in a good way - well worth the price of admission for five pieces! - California Roll ($3.75): Don't let the low price fool you - you get 8 pieces of maki at this price and they're good too! - Hawaiian Roll ($7.95): Having just moved here from Hawaii, I had to try this (it doesn't exist as far as I know in Hawaii). As it turns out, it's ahi/tuna, avocado, imitation crab and fish roe wrapped in thin slices of peeled cucumber. Like a California roll with a twist. I like. :) - Lemon Tea ($1): Order any menu option and it seems like you can get up to two large lemon teas for a $1 each. That's a sweet deal! (pun intended) === 3. SERVICE Well...the lady assisting was alright, but less helpful when inquiring as to what it is in the Hawaiian roll. She didn't know and seemed almost reluctant to find out and focused on trying to sell me more expensive rolls. Apart from that, the service was alright and the food was prepped quickly. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's the Aberdeen Centre food court, which was bright open environment, welcoming for many and those with wheelchairs and baby strollers too. Parking is plentiful as usual in the Centre's parkade.

Spicy Combo

Never thought I'd be ordering sushi from a very Chinese food court but that's what I wanted haha Surprisingly not bad. I had the Spicy Combo for $14.50 which comes with a spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll and chopped scallop roll. It was not bad for the price! Also the rolls had more filling than my recent visit to Sushi House which is nearby.

I'm really not sure how they have such a high stat rating on here but everything from the cheap single use plastic serving dishes they use to the uneven chopsticks that look like they came from the one-off factory (too thick, can't grip noodles) was just awful! I came back to ask for a cup of water and the woman asked me if I had my own cup. Why in the world would I ask for a cup of water if I had my own cup?! The food was prepared quickly and the seafood ramen I ordered had a bunch of small previously frozen shrimp and a couple pieces of fish cake along with canned corn. the ramen broth was bland and unmemorable. Worst of all were the unfresh, packages noodles. I have better ramen noodles sitting in my pantry at home right now. I actually left most of the ramen behind when I finished the meal. Biggest waste of $11+ even if it is CD and not USD. Save yourself the misery!

Salmon Bowl w/ Rice

Pros: Delicious salmon bowl with rice and ice lemon tea; conveniently located in Aberdeen Centre (food court); relatively inexpensive; fast and friendly service; would highly recommend/return to try the sushi (which was also fairly inexpensive) Cons: Miso soup was on the saltier end, but came complimentary with meal

Located in the food court on the third floor of the Aberdeen Centre, this place has a variety of food stalls. You most likely can find something that suits your taste and there are plenty of tables around.

Tofu & Rice, plus tempura, California rolls, salad, and fresh made ice tea and a miso soup. $12

Yummy. Affordable too. Quick to serve and high tech gave you an electronic tag so you didn't have to stand at the counter to wait for your food. Bento boxes are about $2-3 cheaper than outside at other places. Adding an fresh iced tea was $1 so that was a steal.

I ordered the spider roll and it's probably one of the best I've ever had! Will be back again.

Beef ramen

I've been here numerous times and I like the food they offer. Sushi quality is passable but the ramen is a different story. This review is based on beef ramen I got for lunch. For a low, low price of $6.95 (before taxes, ma cherie), you get a good-tasting, kotteri-looking broth along with well-done, shredded beef. Corn and menma pieces and a boiled egg complimented the beef. And all of this, garnished with scallions and a large piece of nori. For a non-authentic Japanese eatery, the presentation is spot on. It's totally pretty good for the price. Oh yeah their $1 lemonade is so good, sometimes I just come to the place just to order that.

Ok am I a lunch slut or a gossip whore? That's my question of the day. AC texted me yesterday to come down to Richmond to have lunch with her. In Richmond? Like wow I have to drive an half an hour to eat a 20 minute lunch? Does that make sense? Maybe it was the holiday boredom, but I decided to make an adventure out of it and I went to the Michael's in Richmond too. The eating part of lunch ended in like 20 minutes, but AC and I sat in the mall gossiping for another 3 hours! Ok... I'm a gossip whore! Haha We decided to meet in the food court in Aberdeen Mall. It's a bit pedestrian, but I find that there is a wide selection of Asian dishes here so why not hey? My next question is does it make sense to choose a Japanese restaurant in a Chinese mall food court? Well I didn't have any cash (and I don't like borrowing money from people) so I had to interact my transaction. Surprising how many Chinese places take cash only! I don't want it to sound like this but one of the main reasons I settled on AJI Hana is that this place takes interact! Well the food was a bit common.... I had a bento box. I would say that whole things was rather flavourless. Certainly nothing distinctive about this food or this entire meal. Would I come back? Hmmm..... Not likely! Next time I'm out of cash I'm going to borrow money!!!

We randomly ordered the unagi don from this place. Definitely not a regular customer cause eating Japanese food in Chinese food court is not my thing. But to my surprise, this was actually good! First, it's only $12.5 for the unagi don and $1 extra for cold lemon tea. So much cheaper than restaurants. And then they gave us lots of unagi. You can see it fully covered the surface! And with the full rice bowl, I could barely finish it myself. The unagi tasted normal, just like any other Japanese restaurant. Now if I crave for unagi don and don't want to pay a lot, I probably will come back. :)

We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. The food was average and the prices were too high for the quality and amount of food received. We did not enjoy the anime that was playing and we were glad that we were not sitting in the main dining room. Overall, we feel that there are better options for a Japanese meal.

Sashimi and sushi were just ok, a bit below average. Tempura was decent. Chicken skewers were too salty. Fried rice was also ok, pyramid style presentation was good. Cheese cake was half frozen. Overall, food was below average. However, IKEMEN cafe event was excellent. It was a lot of fun and service was great. I will revisit IKEMEN cafe event if they offer in the future.

However, Saku may have won me over with their sharable combo set. My friend and I came in for dinner last Wednesday. It was quite busy for a weekday and we waited around 30 minutes. I loved the interior of this place! It's clean, but warm toned, and stylish. We opted to share the Zenbu set (comes with variety of pork, chicken, cheese, seafood and veggie tempura) and realized we could get refillable rice, soup, and salad for both of us. This was awesome! I was pleasantly surprised by the chicken thigh. I normally always order pork katsu, but the chicken was tender and juicy. The scallop was huge and not rubbery at all! There was more than enough food for the both of us and we even both had leftovers for lunch the next day. We also ordered the lobster croquette, which was fun to try. Like any croquette, there was a lot of mixed ingredients apart from the lobster, but it was still tasty and fun. The staff were attentive at refilling items and were easy to flag down. This is definitely a place that I would return to again and again when I'm in the mood for Katsu.

The food is not too salty and the broth was perfectly seasoned for my palate. My boyfriend also ordered an espresso romano which I had never tried before. The foam on top was surprisingly refreshing with a tart aftertaste of lime. The prices were also very fair with most sets averaging around $19-20 before tax. When I first walked in, we see the setup is very traditional Japanese style with small dividers and booths. The waitress took me to our booth, and left the tablet for me to use to order food. It came with 7 pieces of different kind of Aburi sushi. We like how they torched not only the tipping, but also the rice. It added so much flavor to it. The Taco wasabi was also very refreshing. My first bite had a kick to it, then I got used to the wasabi. We also got to try some of the bbq dishes, such as the Gyutan (beef Tongue) and the Ton Toro (pork belly). The Sukiyaki beef nabe was delicious, however, it was very salty, and ot was over killed by salt. The Foie gras fried rice was suppose to be one of the most anticipated dish, however, it was a little underwhelming. We could find a lot of foie Gras, which was a bit disappointing.
