Okay, this sushi place is literally across Sushi Wow. I've been to both of these restaurants and I could tell you that this joint serves bigger rolls. Now, I only order the same type of basic sushi almost every time I go to a sushi place: the avocado roll. The avocado roll quite big, yes, but not as big as Samurai's rolls. Sushi King has decent rolls, though. I like that the wasabi was not at all touching of any of the sushi because I don't like wasabi at all. I don't like that feeling in my nose and tear up a little. That sensation is not for me. Decent customer service. I'm always in the area so I will come back again. read more

Portions are generous, prices are good, but quality is just okay. I ordered 6 basic rolls and the total was ~$34. Avocado roll, spicy tuna roll, Alaska roll, BC roll, beef teriyaki roll, and yam tempura roll. The avocado roll was my favourite despite being plain. The Alaska roll had too much artificial crab IMO, and the BC roll fish skin was too chewy. It was too much food for 2 people, but leftovers are always nice. I ordered in person and was told 15 minute wait, but it ended up being closer to 25 minutes. They do not accept credit! Debit or cash only. read more

Generous portions, for the price can't complain about much. Quality is fine too, the staff are so friendly and the restaurant is clean and cozy. Would definitely return when in area. My kids love this place. We like the tempura batter they use because it's very thick and crispy. Large portions and cheap prices. Don't expect fancy. There's always seating and the service is fast. Always enjoy going here. read more

The sashimi was very delicious and fresh. Thick cut !! The salmon fats were perfect! 100%will order more sashimi next time. Bento box was ok, but with 4pc of sashimi and its only $10. I think it pretty good deal. The one thing should be improved is the sauce in the teriyaki chicken and sauce for salad. Slightly sour and greasy taste is not good, and it ruined the food. I feel simply with mayonnaise or wasabi mayo is better. Or I will order "no sauce " for my salad and rice. read more

The 5 stars still stand, but don't get the Spicy Crunch roll. It supposedly uses cooked tuna, but honestly it tastes like Spam. I had this roll twice. Yup, definitely Spam. If I could, I would reduce the review to 4.8 stars because of this small black mark on an other flawless record. The toro is quite decent, as well as their ikura. The uni is quite fragrant (better than Samurai), and is quite the deal for the size of the piece. read more

do not eat at this restaurant! I've reported them to Vancouver coastal. they are serving food that are not fresh!! and they refuse to acknowledge their ingredients being bad. paid 76$, 6 dishes, only 1 were kind of edible. the scallop they served on the sunrise sushi, had a funky taste you know it's gone bad. chicken teriyaki had dark grey colour to their meat!!! not safe to eat. their server kept speaking in Cantonese asking how to deal with me lol. I already reported to Vancouver coastal. this restaurant not safe to eat at!! read more

Probably the worse sushi I ever had. Huge rolls, not properly cooked rice, just terrible. Don't go here!

I am super annoyed just because they don't care if you have an allergy... I told the server if I can swap the Cali rolls since I'm allergic to imitation crab/crab, I told her I don't mind changing it to yam tempura roll or tamago... and she said no... I go to a lot of Japanese restaurants and they are very careful with allergies.. so I'm pretty much disappointed. Our server seemed like she's annoyed with working... even though the only customers in the restaurant was my party of 3 and a family of 3.. Food was okay, tuna wasn't fresh at all, so watch out for that. I don't think I'll come back or recommend it to anyone sadly. read more

This rating is based on benchmarking it against other basic independent, non-native run, a step up from a hole in the wall type of restaurant. The 4 stars come from price for quality. For a $40 take out, I got ten a la carte rolls. None of this combo A or combo B. 4 of us could not finish the food. There was enough for two more. Nothing spectacular, but you won't be hungry after this read more

My favourite restaurant! I can't emphasize enough how lovely my experiences with Sushi King House has been. First off, the staff are incredibly friendly. But what really makes Sushi King House special is the size of the portions! Im not exagerating when I say that their sushi rolls are nearly double the size of your average sushi restaurant. They use quality ingredients, are quick to serve, and reasonably priced! I live in the area, and I grab lunch there at least once a week. Best place for lunch in Marpole! read more

Honesty first: (being on the west side of the street having gotten off the bus) I went to their competitor "Sushi Wow" first. Walking up to that business one can almost taste the oil in the air (not awesome) and their tiny establishment was uber packed (double not awesome) - so i went here instead. This restaurant has 8 or 9 mostly four seater tables with 5 tables occupied. Beside me on the left - their food arrived - the table of three persons - four heaping plates of wonderful looking food - wow. (They ended up taking at least a untouched dish of leftovers home) Beside me on the right - the table of four guys are chowing down on miso soups. I arrived after the table to my right but had my order taken before them (When hungry I'm a quick decider). (I felt bad somehow) I ordered combo #65 with the choice being dynamite sushi with an order of spicy agedashi tofu (took photos). Wow hunk-a-chunka tofu each piece about the size of a jumbo marshmallow with the "spicy" sauce on the side (I ended up asking for more sauce which they didn't charge me for - score!). Although such massive pieces end up more goey than I personally prefer. The sushi was great although the thinner sliced dynamite rolls were hard to chopstick manage when soya sauce dipped. The prawn tempura tasted more fishy than i would have expected but still ok. Service was more prompt than ever noted in a sushi spot. Wow read more

New favorite place!! Great sashimi and BC rolls. Good pricing and quantity is excellent.

If you ever wanted burrito sized sushi and sashimi, this is the place for you! I think one of their sushi rolls equal at least two rolls elsewhere! But if you want fine Japanese dining, this is not for you. Loved their huge sushi but I personal thought the sashimi was too big. My wife, on the other hand, said bigger the better! (Which also means if wife was writing this review, she would give this place 5 stars!) read more

We have take out from here as the price is very reasonable and the Sushi is fresh. My lunch box 3 is so good, I have to add it in this review. The Gyoza skin is thin and nicely pan fried with flavorful pork inside, with sashimi, beef teriyaki don and salad, this is a value meal for $8.50 We usually order 1/2 order Salmon Sashimi Maki Combo A - Tuna Roll, Salmon Roll and California Roll Alaska Roll All the above is enough for dinner and left over for lunch the next day. We used to come for dinner and ordered the Prawn Tempura but we don't like it any longer as I think they change the batter for it so now it taste heavy and oily and not the panko batter like before. The Gyoza is still good, very thin skin with flavourful pork inside. read more

Possibily my new favourite Japanese Sushi restaurant. Came to this place on recommendation by my colleague, and I'm so happy I followed through on it. Not only does the Sushi King have an extensive menu, it seems like everything that is on it is of the up most superior quality. My wife & I started our order off with a plate of Salmon Sashimi & the appetizer Tempura, and in all honesty, if I was served that Tempura in a 5 star restaurant for $35, I would have been happy to pay it as it was that good. Then we moved on to the spicy tuna crunch roll, which was not my personal favorite, but was still very flavorful. After that we ordered a Mango Paradise roll which was basically a California roll will salmon & mango on top. Spectacular. Overall I must say go go go to this place... Amazing quality, taste & the price is very good. read more

For food quality, this place is good, although not outstanding, but the prices are fine.. The owner / manager maybe ?/ possible owner? is extremely gruff and comes across very stressed and as if she hates her job. The approach is rude, really, and when we spoke to her about it, she became very defensive. We could tell that she did not understand our points and was very closed off to our comments. Bad customer service from her unlike the two other younger people who sometimes serve there. Also, one time, she was extra loud with co-workers in the back, plus they put on the television ! OMG! When I politely asked her if they could be a bit quieter, her expression looked as if I was asking her to gauge out her eyes. She looked quite upset and pouty after that. This lady NEVER smiles ! She makes customers uncomfortable. In addition, she replied with a grunt "no" when I asked for Ramen noodles instead of Udon noodles for the special - really? Not even that much flexibility at this place? I heard her doing the same with another customer who actually had food allergies ! read more

Size is what matters when you come here. They claim to have the largest sushi in Vancouver and I believe it! Don't make the newbie mistake and order too many rolls thinking they are your run of the mill 6 piece affairs. No no no my friend. Especially do not make this mistake with the house roll. It looks like the size of a loaf of bread. You've been warned. read more

It was yummy and good deal. They prepared our take out super quickly. Their house roll is so big and yet delicious. Portion is huge too! I would go again for take out. read more

Massive rolls and large pieces of sushi! You would be paying the same price for something half the size at your typical Japanese restaurant. The size and value if their sushi do not detract from the taste and quality of the food. The SALMON and TUNA sashimi are tasty, and the MACKEREL nigiri is one of the best in town. I would highly recommend the BEEF HOUSE ROLL, which has teriyaki beef, oshinko, spinach, crab meat and inari all in a jumbo roll. Their UNAGI ROLL is fantastic, as well. The servers have been infallibly friendly, too. :) read more

Not sure on what planet this joint deserves 4.4 stars over 191 reviews on Google... Its very suspicious. Came here 7/12/18 with 3 colleagues and had party tray D. We ate less than half of it before we decided it was not worth killing our taste buds for. Every item has a slight off taste to it. Rice is very sticky and dense, salmon is tasteless (weird, BC has amazing salmon generally...), lots of items had a weird sweet taste, spicy tuna had the most awful texture... Avoid.... read more

Sushi King is like the McDonald's of sushi! I come here when I'm looking for a quick bite at a low cost. I prefer this location over the one at West Boulevard cause it seems like they put more care into making their sushi here at the Granville location and their California rolls taste significantly better. Decent prices for massive rolls, nigiri and slices of sashimi (try their salmon) although I find some of their special rolls overpriced. Salmon & avocado roll (6 pieces) is $3.95 when Philadelphia roll (5 pieces) is $8.00 when it's essentially the same roll + cream cheese .... So I stick with the generic rolls :) I recommend the salmon sashimi, Alaska roll & House roll! read more

I ordered tuna sashimi as part of my order. The tuna pieces were served to me frozen. I mentioned this to the server who I believe is also the owner. I am so upset with their service I was speechless after I shared with one of the server that I felt the tuna did not taste very fresh today. Our table order assorted sashimi, three rolls, two salmon combo and appetizer. Other things tasted good and normal but two other friends at the table also felt the tuna tasted fishy. When we told the server about this, she said no one else complained about it, and raised her voice and asked if anyone else feels the same way, she made a scene and walked across the room to another table who was having dinner and asked one of the gentleman if he found the tuna not fresh, the customer shook his head, by now the whole restaurant was watching us. We are four adults with three kids, it made us feel so uncomfortable and angry the way she treated us. We still couldn't believe what just happened. They did not apologize or offer to take the dish back. Horrible dining experience, would never come back or recommending this to any decent person. read more

Used to live right by the Granville location, and was I ever grateful. Nothing special about its location or design, it's small, a little tired and bare bones in way of decor, but THE SUSHI IS GREAT. THE PORTIONS ARE FRESH, GENEROUS IN SIZE, AND SO INEXPENSIVE. If you're looking for unpretentious, tasty, giant, affordable sushi, the exact antithesis of any sushi in Van city centre, this is the place. You even get 5-10% off, if you pre order. "Bigger is not Better". Yesterday I intended to have sushi at Sakanaya Seafood and Sushi, however to my sushi sadness they recently closed down after 26 years of business. I knew a block away there was a Sushi King so hey why not give it a try. It is noted on their website as being the "Biggest Sushi in Town", lets see what the hype is about. First: let me set the tone: my expectations were generally low. When I looked at the menus that adorned the window walls, this to me felt like this was going to be a "Utility" sushi experience. I define Utility sushi by having several of the following characteristics a) low cost and b) being low to mid quality rolls and fish, c) likely getting a combo or bento box, d) large volume and generally good value. I had the Maki Combo (B) which consisted of the following: House 1/2 Roll, California 1/2 Roll, Spicy Tuna 1/2 Roll, Kappa Maki 1/2, Salmon Maki 1/2 General thoughts: Seriously lacking quality ingredients. I hate it when a California roll is 99% imitation crab and one sliver of avocado. The rice was so hard packed it felt like the sushi roll was pressed through a sausage maker. My biggest (pun intended) complaint was how ridiculously large the house roll is. It was as large as a beer coaster. How is it even possible to eat this in a normal way. To eat it, I had to dissect it and eat each individual part like it was a salad. I felt like I was the friends whom I was making fun of back in the 90's when I was introducing them to sushi and they would hack up their rolls. I felt so much sushi shame. The sushi here is not fit for a king, nor a prince, nor a pauper. But hey, much like the movies, you sometimes have to watch a really bad movie to really appreciate the awesome ones. read more

Had a craving for sushi while in the area. Normally I go to Sushi Wow across the street, but thought I would try something different this time. A lot of the reviews here mention how big the rolls are, so I was careful not to order too much. Decided on the Bento Box A and 2 rolls for lunch, which filled the 3 of us perfectly. Miami Heat Roll: The jalapeño was a nice touch. Never had that on sushi before. The roll had a bit of heat; I expected more going off what was in it, but it was a good balance. The crunch on top was super crisp and fresh. The mango was delicious and refreshing. Probably the best thing we ordered. New York Roll: Pretty standard with cream cheese. Not bad, but there was a bit too much cream cheese. Nothing really stood out about it. Bento Box A: This was disappointing. The California Rolls and BC Rolls were fine. Not particularly good nor bad, just standard. And they were not as big as I was expecting. Which is fine, I don't rate sushi based on the size of the roll. It just wasn't what I expected. The box also included tempura and teriyaki. The tempura was way too thickly battered and the shrimp/yam inside was mushy. The chicken teriyaki was pretty awful. All in all, it was okay. I liked the Miami Heat roll a lot, and I like the decor--simple but clean--but everything else was either average or below. Glad I tried this place, but I will probably keep going to Sushi Wow instead. read more

this place has become my fav jap place... we always do take out here at least once a week... i just love their house roll... what's not to like about it... huge pieces of salmon and tuna sashimi within... and it's so unbelievably cheap... i also love their tamago unagi roll... it's so very good... one advice though... do not get the SSSR... coz it's pretty plain... other things to recommend is the party tray A... it cost 20bux and it's good for 2 people... love their scallop sushi in it... as well as the California roll... and it has a half order of house roll... as for their plain sashimi order... tuna is the best... it's so thick (over an inch) and tasty... i also tried their toro... and for some reason my last order of toro was extremely oily... read more

I ordered 6 different types of rolls for pick up and they were okay. The futomaki was huge. Prices are similar to another sushi place across the street. I bought my own reusable bag which is easier for me to carry the food home. The fella charged me for a paper bag. He said I should have mentioned it when I placed my order but the lady hung up on me before I had a chance to tell her I will bring my own bag. He refused to reverse the charge. I will not be ordering from here again. The service is much friendlier across the street and I never had an issue with bringing my own reusable bag. read more

Background: I'm from Vancouver and I know sushi. Food: We went on a quiet afternoon and shared one of the sushi combos. The House Roll is grotesquely large (the size of the palm of my hand) and impossible to eat without destroying completely - but it's essentially not bad. Tuna was ok. Salmon was ok. The quality of everything here was just average, the size was jaw-droppingly large for a roll. Ambiance: Tiny worn dining room with about ten 4-seater tables. It ain't the prettiest restaurant. Service: Fast but not noticeably so. Pricepoint: $10 a person should have you loosening your belt buckle. Overall: If you're looking to just EAT OK STUFF this is great and the quality is not bad. However it's certainly not sushi the way it was made to be eaten, and I wouldn't recommend it if you care. read more

I think the food is pretty decent. The last time I came here, I actually forgot to take my take out with me after eating inside. But a server ran after me and reminded me about my take out.
