Maguro A Ke Roll, Inari and Tamago nigiri
    Vic Y.

Got take out from here last night. I opted for the Maguro A Ke special roll, and two nigiri (small eater). While I see a few other reviews mentioning small portions I thought this was perfect for me, and their pricing for special rolls is actually pretty good. The roll was decent overall but I gotta say they are REALLY good at deep frying. Like I was floored by how crispy it was. Tamago nigiri was also decent, though they didn't quite put enough rice inside the Inari nigiri so I might not get that one again (the tofu pocket was all flappy lol). Anyways, I'll definitely come back to try more fried rolls here next time.

I didn't expect to be blown away by the little sushi restaurant at High Gate Mall, but I was a little disappointed. The fish in my maki rolls were barely visible by the time I got to my 5th piece. The middle pieces were normal, but the end pieces that the chef cuts off were mostly rice. Speaking of rice, it was a little hard as well. Fresh Box would be somewhere I would eat again if I was too hungry to drive another 10 minutes. I appreciate that they take Visa and MC though.

    Dynamite Tempura Combo

First time ordering from Fresh Box! I honestly never knew this plaza even had a sushi place, but the location is very convenient. Service was super fast, picked up my order in lass than 15mins. It was hot and fresh, I'll definitely be ordering again. Not sure about how their dine-In is, but worth it for take out. Rolls were big and filled quite well. Ordered a Dynamite Tempura Combo, Yam Tempura Roll and a Chicken Teriyaki Roll

Beef udon in soup. Not on menu item. Can be with chicken too. Simple and tasty.

Fresh food. Clean place. Friendly and fast service. Love their spicy tuna roll, special mango roll and chicken/beef yakisoba. Chicken/beef udon in soup is nice too.

Fine sushi. Quick meal and what you would expect at a small sushi place. 4 tables but mostly take out. I would recommend for a quick lunch.

She then left to let us peruse the menu. We took awhile to look so we were asked at once point if we were ready and we sis we needed a bit more time so the server was delightfully accommodating and said whenever we were ready to give a server a call. Later on when we were ready our order was taken by a male staff member. We ordered a decent amount. Miso cheese eggplant, chawan-mushi, fried fish collar served in some kind of broth, 8pc nigiri omakase, blue fin tuna&uni hand cone, another hand cone but I can't remember what was in it..wifey ordered it, vegetable tempura and a black truffle dynamite roll. The highlight for me was the black truffle dynamite roll, it's taste was perfect. The right amount of truffle used and not over powering like I've had at so many other venues. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. It was smokey, earthy and tasted wonderful. The miso cheese eggplant was delicious, slightly salty from the miso and wonderfully roasted soft eggplant. The fish colar in broth was light and delicate, beautiful flavor and texture. Chawanmushi was soft and delicate, excellently flavored. The omakase which had fish from Japan was delicious, super fresh and masterfully prepared! The tempura came with a green tea seasalt which was different but very nice. For dessert we had the green tea tiramisu which was very tasty. The restaurant itself is small but cozy and wonderfully decorated. My wife and I had a wonderful meal and I would go back for special occasions.

The staffs/owner were very friendly and made great recommendations. Had the hamachi carpaccio, so refreshing and appetizing. The homemade ponzu (lemony) sauce has a nice finish with thin sliced onions and veggies. The Engawa Arburi nigiri was recommended, and it was phenomenal. It is the 'fin edge' of flounder. Super delicate, with seared (arburi) flavor and melts in your mouth. Yum! The other highlight was the Wagyu beef cubes severed on stick. Two skewers 4 cubes each. The Wagyu was perfectly cooked. It melts in your mouth with every bite. We also enjoyed the 7 piece Omakase sushi set. The fish was very fresh and satiating. Love the lotus root chips garnishing. We loved everything we had but would likely skip the Omakase appetizer Platter. Perhaps we were spoiled by the hamachi carpaccio appetizer. We still enjoyed it but For the same price, we would prefer the sushi set. It had 9 small plates in a beautiful serving box including- tiny sashimi cube of salmon, tuna, tamago, and my fav is the komochi nishin (herring fillets ("Nishin") layered over a base of crunchy capelin roe), also included in the tiny plates of apps were, chicken karaage, baby taco, sliced taco, taco in red sauce, and seaweed salad. Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

This is a more theatrical style so expect louder music and a more theatrical experience (eg one of the servers played the flute for the guests celebrating birthdays). I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.
