a variety of different types of sushi
    Jennie Y.

Good quality sushi option in the area! The fish was very fresh. Slightly more expensive than most places for the quantity, but I guess you can do that being the only sushi place in the neighbourhood. They don't do the "special" rolls like some other places do if that's what you're after. However, they still offer an extensive menu of the classics. We tried the following: Assorted Aburi - $20.95 (5/5 stars): This was our favourite choice. It came with two pieces each of the tuna toro, salmon toro, saba, and wild salmon. They were gently torched on top for that lovely smoky flavour that I love about aburi sushi. Spicy Tuna Roll - $6.95 (4/5 stars): Good quality, however it was not very spicy at all. Spider Roll - $10.95 (3/5 stars): I love soft-shelled crab so we gave this a try. The crab was delicious but I'm giving it 3 stars for the value. $10.95 is just over-priced for what you get with this roll. Agedashi tofu - $5.95 (2/5 stars): Not my favourite agedashi tofu, the exterior needed to be more crispy.

Chicken Karage - although it was hot but too much fat in the chicken

If the only reason you came here for sushi because it is "convenient" since it is situated in Champlain mall, then think again. I live in the hood and this is only my second time seating in. I usually order to-go. What a disappointment today. The sushi tasted bland and unfresh. It was sliced so thick (my biggest pet peeve) and what's with the extra mayo on the Alaska roll. And don't get me started on the chicken karage. The colour looked absurd. How many times did they reuse the oil? I honestly don't remember it being this bad. We had so much leftover that we didn't even bother packing it because we know we will never eat it. If you're hungry and want to have sushi, go a bit further and try Hyoga or Shima-Ya.

The first time I dined here I was surprised at the system. You order at the counter then either take it out or find a seat. Good food. Clean establishment. friendly staff.

Yucky nigiri with dried blood in it.
    Muriel L.

I loved this place so much but the quality of the nigiri in my to-go box was horrible. So chewy. Cut wrong and had specks of dried blood in it. They should never have served this in the nigiri. I even called to complain about it and they said that the tuna was fresh but I highly doubt it. Even if it was tuna they got the day of, the shouldn't have served this. Poor quality. The dragon roll was so soggy too and I got there within 15 minutes of placing the order which is how long they said it would take. I'm pretty sure they served me one that was sitting around for a while.

Speaking only to their BEEF BENTO box here. My taste buds were pleased! They stick to a more Japanese style of preparing menu items. Starting with the MISO SOUP, it had a generous amount a of tofu. The BEEF TERIYAKI was the highlight. Real pieces of beef that were not too fatty but graciously tender without all that sweet teriyaki sauce on top. Bonus of red candied ginger sprinkled on the side. The two pieces of NIGIRI were tasty. The Japanese salad, which had spinach, lettuce, cucumber and radish, used the proper (and delicious) SESAME dressing. Finally, the CALIFORNIA ROLL is not he kind that has a ton of mayonnaise. Not a lot of sitting space, but definitely worth checking out if you're in he neighbourhood!

Cute little local place actually run by Japanese. Good vegetarian options. Service is a bit slow but overall I was quite impressed.

    Dynamite roll

Ok so I've been here a couple of times, because it was close to my work at the time. I recently stopped in after the longest time and I still have to say that my review is just a 3. The restaurant is small and service is always a little cold. I always find the cashiers to be rude and impatient. I found that my sushi was good but not great. I had the avocado roll, California roll and dynamite roll. They were all ok. As well I've noticed that their brown rice is always warm. It kind of makes the sushi grosse. No one wants a warm avocado roll etc. So I don't understand why this is a constant problem for this location but not other sushi restaurants. There is complimentary green tea and the service is quick enough but honestly even Togo in Oakridge mall is better than this. I won't be going back if I don't have too. There are too many great sushi restaurants in this city to go to this one. Sorry Sushi go!

I appreciated this and would much prefer this over expecting to have a table than being disappointed. We got lucky though and were able to get seated right around 9. Service was very prompt and we were able to order, eat, and get out of the restaurant pretty quickly. Overall great experience even though I didn't absolutely love everything we ordered House roll: 3/5 this was ok. It sounded good initially but I think there was just too much going on Spicy chopped scallop roll: 4/5 presentation wasn't the best but it still tasted good Red dynamite roll: 5/5 their most popular roll for good reason. I would def recommend this one Salmon and tuna nigiri: 5/5 I liked both a lot and this perfectly scratched the itch for my sushi craving

I counted maybe 36 seats. The interior is nice but generic enough to be just about any type of restaurant. The menu accessed via QR code. I ended up trying the following: - Assorted Tempura: Good. Light batter, but slightly overbrowned. - Miso Black Cod: Good. More elaborate presentation than most, but very small piece. - Salmon Belly Sashimi: Very good. Fresh and delicious. - Tom Special Roll Tray: Very good. A great way to sample all the different roll, all which are very good. I thought it was reasonably priced and could adequately feed 4 people. Service was very good. There are a LOT of staff, so we were constantly being checked on to make sure we were happy and got anything we needed. Overall a good meal. It doesn't classify as the best sushi in Vancouver, but I can see the quality-value ratio might be the best in the city. All the food was quite good and certainly not overpriced. I imagine the high staff count was due to the overwhelming amount of takeout orders. I would return.

My hubs and I vacationed in Vancouver a few weeks ago in late April. We had seen the long lines for dinner at Saku when we were here more than a year ago. So, we decided to give them a try for a late lunch around 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon. No wait. We got seated right away. We liked how spacious and airy the dining room was. Our wait staff were friendly and on point. They were considerate about answering our questions about the food and food allergies. I ordered the chicken thigh katsu ($26 Can) and my hubs got the chicken thigh curry ($28.50 Can). No dairy involved in either dish which I was happy about because I have challenges digesting milk protein. Yes, it's kinda pricey. Yes, it's totally worth it. The katsu is light, crispy, fried perfectly, not greasy, and comes with unlimited rice, miso soup, finely chopped cabbage salad, and an addictively delicious sesame dressing. My hubs' curry sauce was served on the side so he could pour out as much or as little as he wanted. All in all, it was a very pleasant and satisfying meal. Saku is top notch for katsu. You won't believe how good katsu can be until you try it.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

Service was really amazing with servers explaining each dish and drinks were always topped off…read more Food was good, but maybe this isn't quite my style of omakase compared to the other ones I've tried. This is a more theatrical style so expect louder music and a more theatrical experience (eg one of the servers played the flute for the guests celebrating birthdays). I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.
