    Nigiri Sushi
    Danielle B.

Highly recommend getting sushi rolls from the Chef's Recommendation. They're packed with flavour and have good portion sizes. Their nigiri sushi also tasted fresh. Their service was decent but could improve a bit. The restaurant is quite small yet cozy. While there are other good options for sushi around the area, I can say that this is one of the better places.

Hello foodie friends! Grayson and I never go out for lunch together because it just doesn't work out that way most of the time but last week we had the opportunity to do so in Coquitlam. Sushi Koo labels itself as a "fine Japanese restaurant" which can be interpreted as fine-dining but it is nothing of the sort. Their prices are moderate, their decor is homey and their menu is extensive offering a variety of items including nigiri served aburi style. Since we were here during lunch time, we opted to go for the lunch specials. Both of our orders came with a bowl of miso soup. Nothing too special but there were a few pieces of firm tofu on the inside.Grayson thought that his bento box wouldn't be enough so he also ordered a saba aburi nigiri and a tamago nigiri. Both were made well and the saba came with it's usual grated ginger garnish which helped cut some of the fattiness of the fish. The lunch bento A came with California rolls, tempura, salad, and chicken teriyaki. The chicken teriyaki sauce was lightly sweetened and they put just enough on top of it for it to lightly coat everything. The california rolls did not go light on the imitation crab and the rice was well seasoned as well. Grayson liked that the termpura came with a variety of things including squash, yam and shrimp. They were all crispy and held up to being in the dipping sauce. If you're a tempura lover you'd know about the dreaded situation that can happen when the coating falls off mid dip...

Ordered pick-up for my nephew birthday. I was randomly choose this place since it close to the venue. To be honest, I never tried it before, and you know what I LOVE ALL their sushi!! I couldn't remember what I order since I just ask their recommendation, but ALL of them are really delicious and fresh! they pack them nicely (in a party tray). Definitely will go back to dine-in with my friends! Service was really nice (we did pick-up order, but still). Location is super convenient too close to coquitlam centre!

Another sushi place in close vicinity to home! Also located literally next to 3 other sushi places, wondering what this could bring to the neighborhood of sushi! A small place with about 15 seats, we were luckily seated quickly. Service was friendly and looking at the menu, pricing is similar to sushi town, bonus! We ordered their lunch box, which was decently sized. The eel was quite delicious and the pieces of sashimi were big. The rice however, was not cooked through and too strongly seasoned with vinegar that it was overpowering. The aburi oshi was very thin with barely any fish, it was tasty, but again, the rice was undercooked. The White Dragon roll was saucy but I liked the combination of fish with the sauces and sear. The highlight was their deluxe chirashi don. Packed full of higher end sashimi, it was a steal! Their saba was also quite unique in that they pair it with an egg base, which made the usual sour taste to saba less intense. However, the Hamachi tasted off, perhaps not a very fresh or good cut. This was one of the dishes where the undercooked rice was more prominent and noticeably worse. The aburi salmon belly nigiri was deliciously torched, melty in our mouths! I forgot to take a picture of takoyaki, but this was a very disappointing dish. It tasted like one of the pre-made ones from T&T and only reheated in the microwave. Only one of us found a piece of octopus inside, the rest only had dough and more dough. Overall the food was decent, however lower quality. For the price though, I would understand. Servers were attentive but a bit opinionated. If only our waitress didn't make a comment of how we didn't order enough food for 4 people (we had just finished packing leftovers), I would go back. Considering its right next to 3 other great sushi places, I see no reason to suffer again any time soon.

We stopped by for lunch over the weekend. The restaurant was not too busy so we were able to be seated right away. Menus and tea were provided as quickly as we were seated. We ordered a Sashimi Box C, aburi toro, tamago nigiri, oshi salmon and chopped scallop roll. Food arrived soon after we placed our order. The aburi and oshi were alright for the price. It is not the best I have tried, but for the price it was passable. I have paid much more for amazing aburi and oshi but it was at a different price point so my expectations are lowered accordingly. It is good they offer aburi and oshi as many restaurants do not have have these items on their menus. The rest of the food was average quality. Overall, the service was good. The price was reasonable for the quality. It is worth a visit if you are in the area.

I use to go to Sushi Koo when they were in Port Coquitlam. Happy to know they are open again near by. The service has always been great. Its a family owned restaurant ( assuming). The best sushi for the price by far, and I have tries various locations in BC. I am not sure if I agree with some of the negative comments on here. I am not sure where you can find this quality for a similar price point. If your looking for amazing food with great service but dont want to travel to Van. this is your place

I'd give it a solid 3.5 stars but can see it becoming a 4 stars with some changes. The store is small so lots of people do takeouts. I still prefer dine-in unless it's just bentos. They have a few selections for drinks and food. Waitresses are very friendly and attentive, I'd say their service is amazing and respectful. Even when they heard my mom and I speaking Mandarin, but we spoke English with them, they respected that and spoke English with us. For a foodie who travels a lot and eats out a lot, I can tell you that that kind of respect is quite rare within our culture. The presentation is simple but they try to make it modern and the food is tasty. Some sauce are a bit much in amount and overpowered the fish or dish itself but I do appreciate that the sauce itself are usually not as heavy as some other Korean/Chinese owned sushi place. Some of their dishes like oshi or aburi can be torched a bit more so that the fish's fat is not overpowering it and make the texture and taste unbalanced. Their fish chin appetizers definitely needs to be fried longer and crispier, but other than that, their other dishes are good. The only biggest issue I had or a dish I'd definitely won't order again would be the carpaccio because it's one of the pricier dish and it's the lowest quality of all the other things I've had there. The quality of the dish is fine but I meant it's execution. The sauce is way too heavy that it overpowers the flavour and freshness of the fish, and the sauce is too salty (soy sauce) and a tad bit too sour. Seafood carpaccio needs to have a hint of sourness but not that much, and the knife skill could be much better on this particular dish..I've never had such thick carpaccio. Without some changes, it's not a place I'd travel all the way for or become a regular, but it's also not bad so if a friend wanted to try I'd go back. However, with some changes I can see myself going back more often and being one of the top in my list. Because the price is good, service is great, and the food isn't bad but it's just not memorable and with so many sushi places around the area being a competition, it needs to stand out.

This is a mediocre sushi restaurant in this area. Always excited for a new sushi joint in the area! We tried individual aburi pieces and as it turns out, each of them are done the same way - same taste so just stick with the basic and don't over order. The mayo is quite heavy on all. You get what you pay for. The quality and the rolls are all ok. Service is prompt. It's great if you just need a quick sushi fix for lunch or dinner. Nothing fancy.

Unagi Roll, Chopped Scallop Roll & Futo Maki (from left to right)
    Jocelyn C.

I wasn't feeling too hungry and lowkey only ordered three rolls for the picture LOL. But I feel like these rolls were sort of overpriced but whatever they looked pretty. The taste was pretty mediocre. I always like chopped scallops rolls and this place doesn't make them bad but there are places that definitely make them better. The unagi roll was just okay I didn't really like it. The price could be a lot better for the amount of unagi they put in the roll. But I understand that unagi is expensive. The futo maki was pretty mediocre too. I probably wouldn't come here again honestly. I don't know if the sushi didn't take too good because I wasn't hungry or because I actually don't think this restaurant is too good. ‍‍

Had lunch today with my wife at Sushi Koo. A tiny little place with about 5 tables but always busy. Lots of take out orders while we were there. We had chicken box A $13 and it came with miso soup. We also had prawn tempura at $2 each for an order of 6. All in all pretty good.

    Pink Lady Roll

On this lazy Monday afternoon, I decided to drag myself out of my bed and grab lunch. I discovered Sushi Koo, a new sushi joint which just opened today. I was recommended the Pink Lady Roll, and I ordered 6 different Aburi. The Aburi was succulent and melted in my mouth. The Pink Lady Roll was divine, the crispy tempura in the roll definitely went well with the seared salmon on top. Their menu has a vast array of options, even for vegans. They serve lunch boxes that start at $9.95 if you are around the mall I would definitely suggest to walk over. They do have a "happy combo" which cost $12.95 and you get to pick items from each section (39 items). A few things that stood out were the Chicken Karaage, Chicken and Beef Teriyaki, Sashimi. Think of this as a customizable bento box. This new restaurant would give the older more established ones a run for their money.
