I feel this is always a good, safe choice when craving Japanese. I happen to come at a decent time of the day on Friday, around 5pm and their was actually a good amount of parking and no wait time. Prices ofcourse inflated due to inflation but quality is still good and fresh. Our tea cups were never empty and staff always to checked ro see if everything was good. If it stays like this, I will always come back.

tldr: SO GOOD i ordered it as takeout two days later! As a recent visitor to the world's best kept secrets, honestly not sure what it is about Canada but yelp reviews just aren't poppin lol. Anyway contrary to most, I actually really enjoyed all the offerings here! My friend and I arrived around the same time as the usual dinner rush and we were seated promptly. We then ordered: spicy salmon sashimi (half order), crunch calamari roll, alaska roll, and two others I forgot the name of LOL. All were up to my standards, the spicy salmon sashimi being the star of the show. Although we ordered a half order, both my friend and I felt it was definitely a full order. We even made note to check the bill to see what was charged; indeed only a half order- maybe it was just our luck, or they increased portion sizes. Either way, I'm not mad at it! I will admit, the inside of the establishment is on the smaller side, with fewer waiters than deemed necessary, but our teas and waters were always filled. Compared to what's available where I'm from, the Bay, this place wins hands down; definitely will be back again!

I ordered a spicy tuna roll, sockeye salmon maki and ebi sunomono. Spicy tuna roll : plain tuna and just spicy sauce topped on top. I wish the hot sauce was mixed in. Just felt like it was a very lazy way to do it. Ebi sunomono: overall flavour was good. It was definitely a bit cheaper than the other sushi restaurants. Not the best but also you get what you pay for? I don't think I would go again.

The good quality sushi and cheap prices are just as consistent as the Broadway location, but Coquitlam's Sushi California has better service! I loved how they present all their items and they just overflow the nigiris I ordered with delicious ingredients. Every time I'm back in Vancouver, I always make it a point to stop at a Sushi California!

I asked for NO ginger, extra wasabi, this is what I got!

Manager gave me a credit but they seriously need to hire a higher caliber of staff, there is no excuses for the lack of s**t that one girl gave who took my order.... and I think she lied when I was on the phone with her when she told me she talked to her manager. .

Sushi California is one of my favourite local spots for fast & cheap sushi. They have a large selection of special rolls at the cheapest prices. Their most expensive special roll is around $10 (cheaper than other places), also their portion size is big. Fast service, a little cramped if you eat inside. There is always a wait to get seated but takeout/delivery is super convenient. More on my blog: https://sincerelyloewe.com/sushi-california/

Do you love sushi and happen to be in the area? Go to Sushi California and order the Salmon and Tuna Don. Or the Salmon. Or the Tuna. Or some rolls. Or sashimi. Or nigiri. It doesn't matter - it's ALL good. We found ourselves in the parking lot on accident and only lingered because my iPhone picked up some free wi-fi. SUPER USEFUL! The outside didn't look very enticing, but we noticed it was packed and a lot of the customers were Asian. I glanced at the Yelp reviews and saw that they were quite good. So we headed inside and waited about 5 minutes for a table. There were a lot of servers working (mostly female and Asian) and they were very, very efficient. They came by to check on the status of our cup of tea about every 5 minutes! As for the food, the food was... oh my goodness good. I ordered the tuna and salmon don, and the pieces of fish were thick and tasted exactly like they should. PERFECT. We also got a spicy tuna spring roll (or something like that), and that was tasty and beautiful. (See photos.) I really liked the little green "trees" that made the roll look especially pretty. I didn't have any of the avocado roll because I was full and really don't like avocado, but that was a SUPER avocado roll. So much bigger than we expected! The person that ate it said it was a bit overwhelming at first, but still enjoyed it... and enjoyed the leftovers even more about 2 hours later after it was briefly refrigerated. Upon tasting the salmon/tuna, my dining partner said "People I know that love sushi would say this is what good sushi is supposed to taste like." Total for two miso soups, one salmon & tuna don, a veggie combo or something like that, an avocado roll, a spicy tuna spring roll, and probably 10 cups of (complimentary) tea was about $28. Two people got very full and the food was fantastic, so the price is definitely good!! The dinner was great and left me thinking that I'm both sad and relieved that I don't live in the same city as Sushi California. I'm so glad I found this place on my brief visit!

Sometimes hit or miss, with sushi rice being too hot or portions being too small but high quality overall.

The restaurant is spacious and cozy. For each table there is a tablet for ordering. I ordered a Soy Chicken Karaage Donburi as it looked delicious on the menu pics. The rice bowl came with miso soup. The donburi looked good with sufficient portion for a strong man. It was tasty, however as I kept eating the soy chicken karaage got more and more salty. Finally I couldn't have anymore. I finished the rice and it was well cooked. I drank two cups of tea after having the donburi. I didn't try other dishes, perhaps I will give them a try when I come here next time. I do hope the chef could make it less salty. Apart from that, service was fine and the ambient was quiet and tidy.

sometimes the best dinners are the ones you don't plan…read more our party of five ended up at mika sushi on a saturday for an impromptu dinner and a chance to catch up. the restaurant was lively without feeling chaotic, with a bright, modern dining room, high ceilings, warm wood finishes, comfortable booths, and an open sushi bar where you can catch glimpses of the chefs at work. it felt casual, welcoming, and easy to settle into for a relaxed evening. the hardest part wasn't finding a table...it was deciding what to order. the menu is extensive, with pictures of a variety of sushi, sashimi, specialty rolls, bentos, noodles, donburi, and plenty of vegan friendly options. i spent far longer than i'd like to admit staring at the menu before finally ordering the "my favourite combo." for $24.95, you get to choose four items, which turned out to be a great value. i went with the tuna sashimi, salmon sashimi, dynamite roll, and a negitoro cone. my order initially came out with negitoro maki instead of the cone, but it was quickly corrected with an apology, which i appreciated. everything arrived looking fresh and nicely presented. the tuna and salmon sashimi were thickly sliced, buttery, and fresh, exactly what i was hoping for. the negitoro cone was generously filled with chopped tuna and green onions, and the nori still had a nice crisp snap to it. the dynamite roll was probably my least favourite of the four. i was surprised to find a slightly soggy piece of yam tempura tucked in with the prawn tempura, crab, and avocado. i'm not sure if that's normally part of the roll or if it was added by mistake, but it wasn't something i was expecting from a dynamite roll. i also would have liked the prawn tempura to be crispier. it was missing that satisfying crunch you'd normally expect from a dynamite roll. it wasn't a deal breaker, and i didn't mention it to our server, but it just wasn't the standout dish for me. one thing i appreciated was that the portions were generous without being over the top. i left feeling comfortably full and never once questioned whether the combo was worth the price. with such a large menu, there's something for just about everyone, including plenty of vegan friendly options, making it an easy place to bring a group with different tastes. unlike some japanese restaurants where everyone shares dishes, mika sushi feels more like a place where each person orders exactly what they're craving. between the fresh sashimi, generous portions, reasonable prices, and relaxed atmosphere, mika sushi delivered exactly what we were looking for that evening. was every bite perfect? not quite. but the food was fresh, the value was excellent, and spending a few hours catching up with family made it a night well spent. sometimes the best dinners really are the ones you don't plan.

An absolute A+ to Chef Keith and Chika for their mastery of perfecting a great omakase experience in the tricities. They are reservations only (and for a good reason!) and this can be done on their new online portal!! by controlling the number of seatings, Chef K and Chika are able to interact and share their craft with patrons in an intimate and personal way. There is no hustle and bustle or fakeness that would otherwise follow some restaurant vibes. There is purely passion for fish, customer service and, of course, metal music! I urge you to dine at the chefs bar and let Chef K tell you his extensive and wonderful background from catering some A list bands, to being on tour, and changing restaurant models all while being fed an amazing feast. The fish is sourced from Japan and screams quality and flavour. He knows exactly what he's doing with all the fish profiles and pairing them with a variety of notes like shiso, yuzu and ginger. Between the 14 unbelievably mouth watering and satisfying dishes, Chef K and Chika's kindness shared the spotlight easily. Humble beginnings have led to an extraordinary and legendary journey for SKK. Some of the special highlights were the blue fin tuna, South American jumbo prawn, Spanish mackerel and the scallops.
