    Assorted sushi!

Had my moms bday dinner here. It was pleasant atmosphere and the service was decent. I would say that the portions are a little small (but not for me...but definitely for some people I know ) Overall not bad at all and worth a look.

    Veggie roll combo

Had a wonderful dinner here the other night! Ordered dinner box A and the veggie roll combo, both came with miso soup. The portions were great and the food tasted amazing. We could tell that the sashimi was really fresh. The only downside was that the yam tempura roll was cut up little bits of yam tempura and was mostly the deep fried batter which wasn't that appetizing. I wouldn't get it again for that reason. On the plus side, the service was really good, I would definitely recommend to check out this hidden gem!

    Dynamite rolls

I ordered this evening from here and it was objectively the worst sushi I've ever had in the lower mainland. The "dynamite" rolls in my dinner combo were extremely old, brown avocado, disintegrated when I tried to lift them. I couldn't make out any tempura in them. Absolutely disgusting. The chicken teriyaki was flavourless. The tempura and the gyoza were only ok.

    Set up.

As you can see from the picture, plates, cups and utensils were provided with speed and were very clean. I liked how they brought us a small pot of tea, so we did not have to have contact with the server more than it was necessary. I also noticed how their wasabi was not molded by hand, but scooped. I liked it more for sanitary reason. Initially, I wanted their kamameshi(?) rice pot on the menu, but was informed that they do not sell it anymore and their menu was just not up-to-date. Instead, we ordered zaru soba, some nigiris and rolls. Everything was amazing. Ingredients were fresh. I would highly, HIGHLY, recommend their tamago nigiri(that's the two egg sushi on the third picture). They make their own tamago, unlike lots of other sushi restaurants. It's huge, soft and fluffy. I almost don't want to recommend it as I don't want it to sell out before I get my share. I was going to give four and a half for their menu not updated, but four did not seem to do justice for the quality of food and service I've received. The female server was very friendly and professional.

Mika Sushi was our go to place for an early-dinner recently - a first time dining experience there. We (senior couple & daughter) arrived shortly after 4 pm, and easily-found parking on the street outside the restaurant. We received a nice "welcome shout" from the staff upon entry, and a server showed us to booth seating on one of the side walls - once seated, a teapot of hot tea, mugs, and menus arrived at our table. Yeah, we were now left to browse the menu, and enjoy some tea! Service to our table was mostly ok - our server always had a nice smile, and kept our teapot full. But when ordering, I did find her knowledge and help with the menu sure seemed limited. With this being a first time dining experience there, I had hoped for a touch more help in assessing 'particulars' on some dishes I was considering (mostly an observation though, and only a very minor complaint). What was ordered and shared -- Appetizers: ika karaage, deep fried oysters, and agedashi tofu -- Tempura: yam and prawn -- Sushi & Rolls: deluxe assorted sushi & roll combo - nigiri sushi (red tuna, ika, salmon, hamachi, amaebi, hokkigai, chopped scallop, massago, and uni roll sushi (tekka, salmon). Rather nice presentations -- dish portion sizes though, a touch on the small'ish side -- but very fresh-looking, flavourful and tasteful ingredients, and all well-prepared. A big yum!! We enjoyed our first dining experience at Mika Sushi. Note for next time: order more!!

Bill for 5 people on a Sunday for lunch!

I came in with my family, party of 5, on a Sunday at 1:30pm. The atmosphere of the store is very traditionally Japanese and appears to be very clean. Not noisy, and not too quiet either. Staff greeted me immediately and was very friendly! For $58, everyone was full and very happy with the food. The quality of the sushi is fantastic and the prices are very fair! I go to get sushi in the greater Vancouver a lot and this is one of the better spots for the price. I would definitely come back again :).

Used to be Nao sushi, now Mika, owners changed in April 2017. Clean place, good prices, fresh food. Food is coming out a bit slower than expected during dinner time. Servers seem not to know too much about their menu. But food is all good. Lots of parking in front too.

    Hike in prices :/

This used to be Nao Sushi before. I used to be a regular there (1-2x per week). The new owner changed the staff and also increased prices. That would be ok if the quality of the food stayed the same. But it didn't. Sunday was our last visit. We won't be coming anymore. We were a party of five, came during a dead period (not lunch, not dinner yet) around 4PM. It was empty and yet the service was terrible. My friend didn't get a cup of water he had asked for numerous times. My food came the last when everyone had already finished theirs. Spicy Aburi Roll had a weird aftertaste and didn't have enough good spicy sauce. Everyone was kinda dissatisfied with the food and we all agreed it was mediocre and overpriced.

They just implemented a new takeout menu for a quick reasonable lunch if you're in the area. We ordered: Donkatsu $17 Deluxe negiri and beef udon $25 The pork katsu was well seasoned and juicy for such a lean cut of meat. It comes with miso soup, shredded cabbage and rice The sauce wasn't the typical tonkatsu sauce but a more mild version of it. I think it was well priced for the amount of food. The Deluxe nigiri came with 7 different pieces of fish, including squid and ebi. 2 shrimp tempura and a vegetable one. The beef udon broth was flavourful with a soothing mix of dashi and beef. We were very full after all of the food and the service was good. The only negative is probably the parking. Pay parking around the area or maybe park at the mall and walk over. Over all a great meal!

The restaurant is spacious and cozy. For each table there is a tablet for ordering. I ordered a Soy Chicken Karaage Donburi as it looked delicious on the menu pics. The rice bowl came with miso soup. The donburi looked good with sufficient portion for a strong man. It was tasty, however as I kept eating the soy chicken karaage got more and more salty. Finally I couldn't have anymore. I finished the rice and it was well cooked. I drank two cups of tea after having the donburi. I didn't try other dishes, perhaps I will give them a try when I come here next time. I do hope the chef could make it less salty. Apart from that, service was fine and the ambient was quiet and tidy.

An absolute A+ to Chef Keith and Chika for their mastery of perfecting a great omakase experience in the tricities. They are reservations only (and for a good reason!) and this can be done on their new online portal!! by controlling the number of seatings, Chef K and Chika are able to interact and share their craft with patrons in an intimate and personal way. There is no hustle and bustle or fakeness that would otherwise follow some restaurant vibes. There is purely passion for fish, customer service and, of course, metal music! I urge you to dine at the chefs bar and let Chef K tell you his extensive and wonderful background from catering some A list bands, to being on tour, and changing restaurant models all while being fed an amazing feast. The fish is sourced from Japan and screams quality and flavour. He knows exactly what he's doing with all the fish profiles and pairing them with a variety of notes like shiso, yuzu and ginger. Between the 14 unbelievably mouth watering and satisfying dishes, Chef K and Chika's kindness shared the spotlight easily. Humble beginnings have led to an extraordinary and legendary journey for SKK. Some of the special highlights were the blue fin tuna, South American jumbo prawn, Spanish mackerel and the scallops. I cannot wait to bring my omakase/metal loving friends and family here to join in on the greatness because sharing truly is caring and this gem is too awesome to keep to myself!
