H and I came here for lunch. I got the sashimi and sushi combo for $26.95. It came with 4 nigiri, 5 sashimi, tempura, Korean style gyoza (with vermicelli inside), salad, sunomono, dynamite roll and miso soup. This is the best deal so far for the price. This place is ran by Korean and yes they also serve Korean food as well. They have a screen that you can place your order or even request your server to come over. The food was delicious and prices are very reasonable. The restaurant has free parking and the restaurant itself is quite big. The seating are comfy. The decor was good. After visited Ricky Point Park in Port Moody, I was looking for a nearby restaurant for lunch. I found this Korean-owned Japanese restaurant on the St. John's Street which is just 5 min drive from the park. It was easy to find and there were plenty of spaces in the parking lot. The restaurant is spacious and cozy. For each table there is a tablet for ordering. I ordered a Soy Chicken Karaage Donburi as it looked delicious on the menu pics. The rice bowl came with miso soup. The donburi looked good with sufficient portion for a strong man. It was tasty, however as I kept eating the soy chicken karaage got more and more salty. Finally I couldn't have anymore. I finished the rice and it was well cooked. I drank two cups of tea after having the donburi. I didn't try other dishes, perhaps I will give them a try when I come here next time. I do hope the chef could make it less salty. Apart from that, service was fine and the ambient was quiet and tidy. read more

I came on a Saturday night with my dad and we were able to sit down right away since they had a few 2 person tables left but I noticed there were bigger groups still waiting to be seated since the restaurant was pretty full. The service was really nice but not super attentive - they took a while to come take our orders and we had to flag them down to pay. The food also came at staggered times which made eating a bit awkward. As for the food itself, I got the tan tan udon as well as a yam cream cheese roll and a shittake roll, and my dad got a miso soup as well as an oshi and special roll. The sushi was very good - the rice was perfectly cooked and everything was really fresh! The udon, while huge in portion size, was very disappointing. It was quite flavourless and I ended up adding quite a bit of soy sauce to it to make it taste a bit more salty. Lastly, the prices are more expensive than most places and they wanted to charge $5 just to add tofu to the udon which is crazy! Overall, I would come here and get the sushi rolls since the quality is great but prepare to pay for it! read more

Very friendly staff and meals are decent portion and price but appetizer is still way to pricey for its portion and quality. The miso soup is alright, but the rice is well cooked. I'm not a big fan of the katsu don sauce but some people might like it. Nothing wrong this the specific bbq/balsamic sauce but I just personally don't like it on my katsu as it's a bit too acidic. The sashimi don is great though. The miso cod is way too oily , small, and even with the miso you can smell that it's a bit fishy. Tastes alright but if I can smell it when marinated, the fish is not the freshest. Parking lot right outside and Skytrain/bus across the street so it's a very convenient location. I'm only really in this area during the summer and happily discovered Sushi Modo's new location. Highlight and lowlight: King Aburi Sushi Combo - 2.5/5 I enjoyed the hotate nigiri and my sister enjoyed the saba nigiri but we wouldn't order this again. Chef Roll ($16) - 4/5 A unique roll wrapped with rice paper. It was way too saucy unfortunately. But amazing. We ordered a few more rolls that fell somewhere in between the two. In the MOOD for sushi... I tried their Burnaby location a few times when it first opened and had mixed experience with it. In Port Moody and this place seemed to be the only sushi place around opens till 11pm during the weekend. This place is located on St. John Street, right beside McDonald's. There are parkings available on the side and back plus street during certain time. Inside has a simple yet trendy decor to it, making the experience quite casual. After being seated, here were the food I ordered; 1. Ebi sunomono. It was a generous portion, but I find the shredded purple cabbage was a little too excessive and in the way. And taste wise was a little on the bland side. 2. Black cod miso sake yaki. Nice presentation and taste but it was half meat and half belly. One thing about grilled or bbq black cod belly is they have that chewy crunchy texture that I am not a fan of, certain people enjoy it, just not me. 3. Assorted sashimi (3pcs salmon, 3pcs tuna, 3pcs sockeye, 4pcs chefs choice). Pretty fresh but a bit disappointed with the chef's choice, 2 slices of tako and 2 pieces of hokkigai (technically 1 hokkigai that's been halved). That was weak and another reason why I never like "chef's choice or selection" on the menu. More often than not it's never good. I usually ask but forgot this time, therefore, ALWAYS ask to ensure no lame ducks are being served! 4. Spider roll. Had its little own flair but overall pretty basic. 5. Ikura, toro, saba, chopped scallop nigiris. They were fresh, pretty basic standard sushi. This is a decent little Japanese restaurant located on the busy Port Moody strip, easy location to get to and find. The service here was no wow factor but it was okay. As for the food I ordered, the price was decent in terms of freshness and portion wise. But the ingredient selection wise, certainly have room for improvement. Nevertheless, I think I already tried all the restaurants along the beginning of this strip to the end of Poco?? Next time maybe give Sushi Mori a revisit when in the MOOD for sushi... read more

We love Sushi Modo on Edmonds and was excited to see that the opened up a new location in Port Moody. We popped in for lunch to check it out. As soon as you walk in you will notice how bright and beautiful to the restaurant is. Be prepared for a very large menu! We didn't know where to start because everything looked amazing. We ordered a bento with sushi and sashimi and wow it was HUGE!! Definitely you get the bang for your buck! Salmon oshi was a must and was delicious. If you love salmon sashimi try salmon belly it just melts in your mouth. If you don't do raw try the salmon kama, for $7.50 you will be surprised how big it is! NEW LOCATION. Sushi modo has finally opened a new location in port moody. Their known for their aburi sushi, and speciality rolls. Here were some of the things we got. * Mango tango roll ~ one of my fav speciality rolls we got, super delicious and not to mention it's huge! 10/10. * Scallop motoyaki roll ~ yummy the presentation and taste was good, loved the scallops on top. 9/10. * Volcano roll ~ that garlic chip on top complimented the entire roll so well. It was fresh and the sauce was good with it too. 8/10. * Tuna tataki avocado salad ~ presentation of the tuna and salad was good. Refreshing and worked well to cut some of the heavier rolls. 7/10. * King aburi sushi combo ~ perfect set to try a variety of their aburi sushi. Super delicious and each bite was good. 8/10. * Black cod sake miso yaki ~ cod was soft and tender, I wish it was more infused with the miso and sake flavour but overall super soft. 7/10. * Oshi sushi platter ~ the oshi here is good, my fav is their salmon and saba. 9/10. * Mentaiko cream udon ~ ultra creamy and thick! The noodles were nicely cooked and the sauce paired well with the noods 9/10. * Aburi popping roll - one of my fav rolls here, the jalapeño on top really adds a nice flavour and kick to the delicious seared roll, 10/10. * Deluxe sashimi ~ stunning, presentation was 10/10. Pretty good for middle tier sushi - think along the lines of green leaf or that sushi place in the amazing Brentwood food court! It is a bit expensive for what you are getting and it isn't authentic, but it is one of the better places on the Coquitlam / port moody area. A good meal and would be back! read more

Overall, verdict ? Very good! We live in the tricities and have visited most sushi places over the years. Most of them are Korean run, and quite certain they get them all from the same suppliers - you won't find any Japanese imported fish just fresh regular fare you're used to. I digress - so in a sea of options especially in Coquitlam, we tried out Sushi Modo. The decor is very and clean, the tables are almost booth tables so large and private. The sushi quality and size was good, and prices are reasonable (in today's economy). My litmus test is the BC Roll and it was good; all salmon skin and no fillers! Also had the beef yakisoba which was very good, no too salty, or oily. Probably the best I've had yet. Service was good, no complaints. Will definitely return. read more

this restaurant was recommended to me by a person who's judgement I trust - so before bringing my family and friends here, I slipped in for a late lunch one day just so I could get an idea what the food quality was really like - and I certainly wasn't disappointed: large pieces of top-quality fish and fresh seafood - exactly what I have been searching for in the tri-cities area for some time now, after moving here some years ago but with that being said, at this point I just don't see how I could possibly risk bringing friends and especially family here what changed? interestingly, it was a food delivery service that caused me to make a 180° about-face in regards to becoming a customer here for reasons beyond my control, it's been nearly impossible for me to take the time and dine-in, so a few times I made family-size food orders from Sushi-Modo.. and doing so seems to have exposed their utter lack of quality control and inability to provide edible food in their delivery orders every time I made an order for a delivery from Sushi-Modo via Skip The Dishes, there were at least a couple of glaring deficiencies - not only in the quality of the food, but also in their preparation of the food, and their ability to follow the simple food-handling guidelines one would expect would be required by local health authorities several times, human hairs were discovered in food orders provided by Sushi Modo by horrified family members who quite understandably refused to finish eating their meals.. twice I had to abandon these family meals at home and quickly bundle everybody into the car and head out to one of a few restaurants we use for dining-in at other times, their miso soup arrived at a stone-cold temperature - as if it had been prepared many hours before and then refrigerated, but for some strange reason, it was never reheated before being packed for travel... and yet, the correct flavour there every time! I have ordered many dozens of meals from a very few Japanese restaurants in this area via Skip The Dishes and NEVER once has an order of miso soup order ever been delivered at less than the ideal temperature for immediate enjoyable consumption - and yet, it's such a simple detail, that it beggars belief that Sushi Modo can't do the same the other worrying aspect in regards to the food supplied by Sushi Modo is the quality, sadly... and the items always seemed to be of the more expensive kind - salmon eggs and flying fish eggs often appeared to be a day too old to be served - an impression borne out by the flavour, which many times rendered the item totally inedible.. also, their chopped scallops seemed subject to being kept and served a day later than one would expect from even the most inexpensive Japanese food restaurants another food item that was shockingly poor in quality every time I ordered it was their tamago - which was nothing short of very off-putting - if a Japanese restaurant is incapable of providing this simple egg item in an edible condition - the way every other Japanese-style restaurant in the area has always done, then one can reasonably assume that any other item on their menu for delivery could be suspect - again, we never received a piece of tamago that seemed fresh and inviting to eat please don't assume that just because I've travelled Japan extensively over the years, that I am holding Sushi Modo to the same exacting standards as every single restaurant I have enjoyed in Japan - from the most excellent 250+ years family establishments to 100 yen bars or a quick meal off the belt - because it would hardly be a fair comparison, given our proximity to the quality food stocks and markets utilized by the Japanese - however, one of the most important aspects of Japanese food has always been the quality - no matter what the dish - which is why it's so difficult to understand why Sushi Modo would choose to provide such poor food quality for delivery, when dining in seems to be held to a much higher standard will I make a future visit to Sushi Modo in the hope of enjoying a positive dining in experience? I might - but I will never again risk exposing my friends and family to their delivery food, as I have yet to receive a satisfactory explanation as to why so many meals and dishes they've provided for delivery was of such abysmal quality read more
