Very friendly staff and meals are decent portion and price but appetizer is still way to pricey for its portion and quality. The miso soup is alright, but the rice is well cooked. I'm not a big fan of the katsu don sauce but some people might like it. Nothing wrong this the specific bbq/balsamic sauce but I just personally don't like it on my katsu as it's a bit too acidic. The sashimi don is great though. The miso cod is way too oily , small, and even with the miso you can smell that it's a bit fishy. Tastes alright but if I can smell it when marinated, the fish is not the freshest. Parking lot right outside and Skytrain/bus across the street so it's a very convenient location. Not my go to sushi at all but not the worst either.

In the MOOD for sushi... I tried their Burnaby location a few times when it first opened and had mixed experience with it. In Port Moody and this place seemed to be the only sushi place around opens till 11pm during the weekend. This place is located on St. John Street, right beside McDonald's. There are parkings available on the side and back plus street during certain time. Inside has a simple yet trendy decor to it, making the experience quite casual. After being seated, here were the food I ordered; 1. Ebi sunomono. It was a generous portion, but I find the shredded purple cabbage was a little too excessive and in the way. And taste wise was a little on the bland side. 2. Black cod miso sake yaki. Nice presentation and taste but it was half meat and half belly. One thing about grilled or bbq black cod belly is they have that chewy crunchy texture that I am not a fan of, certain people enjoy it, just not me. 3. Assorted sashimi (3pcs salmon, 3pcs tuna, 3pcs sockeye, 4pcs chefs choice). Pretty fresh but a bit disappointed with the chef's choice, 2 slices of tako and 2 pieces of hokkigai (technically 1 hokkigai that's been halved). That was weak and another reason why I never like "chef's choice or selection" on the menu. More often than not it's never good. I usually ask but forgot this time, therefore, ALWAYS ask to ensure no lame ducks are being served! 4. Spider roll. Had its little own flair but overall pretty basic. 5. Ikura, toro, saba, chopped scallop nigiris. They were fresh, pretty basic standard sushi. This is a decent little Japanese restaurant located on the busy Port Moody strip, easy location to get to and find. The service here was no wow factor but it was okay. As for the food I ordered, the price was decent in terms of freshness and portion wise. But the ingredient selection wise, certainly have room for improvement. Nevertheless, I think I already tried all the restaurants along the beginning of this strip to the end of Poco?? Next time maybe give Sushi Mori a revisit when in the MOOD for sushi...

We love Sushi Modo on Edmonds and was excited to see that the opened up a new location in Port Moody. We popped in for lunch to check it out. As soon as you walk in you will notice how bright and beautiful to the restaurant is. Be prepared for a very large menu! We didn't know where to start because everything looked amazing. We ordered a bento with sushi and sashimi and wow it was HUGE!! Definitely you get the bang for your buck! Salmon oshi was a must and was delicious. If you love salmon sashimi try salmon belly it just melts in your mouth. If you don't do raw try the salmon kama, for $7.50 you will be surprised how big it is! To top things all off the service was amazing! Will be back!!!

NEW LOCATION. Sushi modo has finally opened a new location in port moody. Their known for their aburi sushi, and speciality rolls. Here were some of the things we got. * Mango tango roll ~ one of my fav speciality rolls we got, super delicious and not to mention it's huge! 10/10. * Scallop motoyaki roll ~ yummy the presentation and taste was good, loved the scallops on top. 9/10. * Volcano roll ~ that garlic chip on top complimented the entire roll so well. It was fresh and the sauce was good with it too. 8/10. * Tuna tataki avocado salad ~ presentation of the tuna and salad was good. Refreshing and worked well to cut some of the heavier rolls. 7/10. * King aburi sushi combo ~ perfect set to try a variety of their aburi sushi. Super delicious and each bite was good. 8/10. * Black cod sake miso yaki ~ cod was soft and tender, I wish it was more infused with the miso and sake flavour but overall super soft. 7/10. * Oshi sushi platter ~ the oshi here is good, my fav is their salmon and saba. 9/10. * Mentaiko cream udon ~ ultra creamy and thick! The noodles were nicely cooked and the sauce paired well with the noods 9/10. * Aburi popping roll - one of my fav rolls here, the jalapeño on top really adds a nice flavour and kick to the delicious seared roll, 10/10. * Deluxe sashimi ~ stunning, presentation was 10/10. Good variety it was fresh too! 10/10. * Overall the mango tango, aburi popping roll and deluxe sashimi stood out the most. (I still prefer the Burnaby location) but I'm glad to know there's one in Port Moody as well. *

Can't believe the last time I came here was almost 6 years ago! The food is still amazing. I love…read moreAburi so we ordered beef Aburi and simple Aburi set as well as a roll set. We probably over ordered a bit. All the rolls are great. Some of the Aburi rice is a bit loose but the flavor is good. I am happy that they have mini udon on the menu. It's like they know what kids like. I love all the Ghibli posters as decor. It's a fun and inviting place for family and friends.

They just implemented a new takeout menu for a quick reasonable lunch if you're in the area. We ordered: Donkatsu $17 Deluxe negiri and beef udon $25 The pork katsu was well seasoned and juicy for such a lean cut of meat. It comes with miso soup, shredded cabbage and rice The sauce wasn't the typical tonkatsu sauce but a more mild version of it. I think it was well priced for the amount of food. The Deluxe nigiri came with 7 different pieces of fish, including squid and ebi. 2 shrimp tempura and a vegetable one. The beef udon broth was flavourful with a soothing mix of dashi and beef. We were very full after all of the food and the service was good. The only negative is probably the parking. Pay parking around the area or maybe park at the mall and walk over. Over all a great meal!

We have also ordered: Aburi Negi Tuna Oshi Aburu Unagi Oshi Both Aburi Oshi are absolutely delicious and nice plating. Sushi Mori Tower Layered with the freshest salmon and tuna tartare, avocado, shiitake mushrooms, and real crabmeat, all drizzled with ponzu sauce, aioli, and a touch of honey lemon dressing, it was an incredibly fresh and decadent treat. This place surprise us with its exceptional Japanese cuisine, paired with a curated selection of beers. Orion Premium Draft: A classic from Okinawa, this is a Japanese Rice Lager that's clean, crisp, and incredibly refreshing. It was the perfect start to our meal. Echigo Premium Stout: An award-winning Dry Stout from Niigata. This dark, rich beer with notes of roasted malt and chocolate was surprisingly smooth and offered a delightful contrast to the lighter seafood dishes. Echigo Red Ale: Another gem from Niigata, this Red Ale is a wonderful choice for those who love a balanced beer. It has a beautiful amber hue and a slightly malty, complex flavor profile that paired well with the richer flavors of the aburi. Echigo Koshihikari Rice Lager: This unique lager, made from the famous Koshihikari rice, has a incredibly clean and crisp taste. It was an interesting and delicious variation on the traditional rice lager. They are all good but I personally love light beer which Orion is my favorite and it brings me the memories of my Okinawa trip in Japan.
