Nice spot for a takeout meal under $15. Portions are very reasonable. Tempura is nice and tasty over a bed of rice. I got the nori box and really liked the egg, croquette and prawn tempura. Comes with miso soup. There is no room to eat so truly take out to go.

I came across this place randomly since a lot of stores and restaurants are closed on a Monday / boarded up in Chinatown? I got Karaage Bento (#1). It was a good portion of rice and fried chicken. Except it needs sauce! For the chicken, plain rice (not vinegar) and plain cabbage. Miso soup was a good touch. Also, there's nowhere to sit. It was a bit suss in this neighborhood.

Chinatown has a fair share of tasty Chinese food available street to street but who knew tucked along one of those streets is Manpuku! They serve Japanese bento boxes to go and they are made to order. We ordered the Beef Curry w/ Karaage + Syake Bento. The beef curry was my favourite! It's nice and thick with little pieces of beef and gives off that homey feeling! You can choose to include add ons too that range from karaage, tonkatsu, fry ebi, croquette and more to your beef curry. All the menu items are reasonably price. This is an easy new favourite for take out when I'm the area!

Great place for quick Japanese takeout! We got the Tonkatsu bento and the karage bento to go and it was prepared quite quickly. There was more than enough Tonkatsu and karage and we were so impressed with the flavour. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back!

Manpuku always has a huge line up, and for good reason. They are super good value and the food reminds me of supermarket bentos in Japan. I ordered the Mix Fry Bento which included chicken karaage, tonkatsu and fried hoki (fish). On top of a bed of rice with some cabbage. I recommend adding the tonkatsu sauce and salad dressing into your bento before you leave their place. Service is self sever, and they have a standing bar area where you can enjoy your food (before Covid). But honestly during lunch time there's a really big line up that I don't think you'd enjoy eating at the bar. You get a number once you order and pay, and they call out your order when it's ready. I think it's very efficient. Their food is very solid, and feels home made. I would definitely go back again if I'm in the area, but I won't necessarily drive all the way to visit the restaurant.

Cheap good Japanese food?! Sign me up! This shall be a short and concise blurb. I was pleasantly surprised with the katsu and curry, it was nice. Nothing spectacular but hit the spot. The karaage was a large portion and well done, super crispy.

The boyfriend and I happen to be in Chinatown and stumbled upon this hole in the wall and decided to give it a try. We were a bit early as they open at 11, so we decided to wait for it to open. We were first in line but as soon as they opened, there were 3 others behind us. I ordering a beef curry on rice and added karaage and the boyfriend tried the beef curry on rice with tonkatsu. Our plan was to enjoy it in the comfort of our home but we gave in to the temptation and pulled over to the side of the road to eat. The portion was good and the taste was soooo delicious. It even came with free miso soup. A meal for under $10! This is really a gem and a bang for your buck! I can't wait to go back and try the horse mackerel on rice. Value + taste: 10/10

This hidden gem in Chinatown is known to many to works in the area. Excellent bento take out place. Reasonably priced, highly recommend the fried fish bento box and the fried chicken bento box. There is also daily specials that the place make. Pastas are great too! They do Get very busy during lunch time so they don't always pick up their phone. If you order at the restaurant then prepare to wait as they need to freshly make a lot of the food. Must try!

Definition of hole in the wall!! Super friendly couple usually working that own this place. Very small restaurant, basically no tables/chairs, but little popup board you can eat over(standing) if you want. Prices are super affordable, and portions are good. I would say, that if you just get something like chicken on rice, its kind of dry. Would really recommend curry rice + chicken or pork, which is what i got yesterday . Also it comes with miso soup!! Had the curry rice + add piece of chicken kaarage. The curry has bits of onion, beef, carrots in it and is a nice mild spicy, very very mild and more than enough to cover all your rice!! The chicken is a nice crispy fried chicken, though not the juiciest. The additional piece of chicken karage is really big which was nice. The miso soup it came with was alright, some onions, carrots in it and nothing too special, though not as MSG filled as some others which is nice. All in alll, it was less than $9!! The curry is super delicous, plenty of rice, and the chickens pretty big for the addon. They also do a special of the day? Week? Which is nice to change things up

Been awhile since I visited Chinatown so a nice surprise to see this tiny hole-in-the-wall serving up simple Japanese bento boxes. Cheap, with good flavour, this tonkatsu lunch set will fill you up without breaking your bank account.

Does this place get a star just for having meals under $10? The place is minimal in nature but their food is something to call home about. This is not a dine in place but great it you are able to grab it and eat else where. The Chicken Karaage Bento hit my craving for crunchy breaded chicken to a tee. There were three big pieces/ chunks of chicken on top of a generous portion of rice. Did i mention this Bento cost less than $10?

Every time I come, I can feel the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff. From seating to ordering, and then to the care during the meal, everything is done with great finesse, making me feel comfortable and at ease. The unique politeness and meticulousness of Japanese service are naturally reflected here. The food is also a reason I want to come back. Whether it's the freshness of the ingredients, the presentation, or the taste, you can feel the attention to detail. Japanese cuisine emphasizes the quality of the ingredients themselves, and Miku presents this refinement beautifully. Every dish is pleasing to the eye and has a layered flavor. I also love the ambiance. The overall design is simple, elegant, and has a very comfortable Japanese aesthetic. The lighting, seating, and spatial layout all create a relaxing atmosphere without feeling overly decorated; instead, they have a high-quality feel. As for the atmosphere, I think it's what makes this place so special. Elegant and quiet, yet not too formal, it's suitable for dates or enjoying a good meal with friends. Sitting there slowly eating and chatting makes the whole dining experience particularly comfortable. After several visits, I still feel that Miku is a restaurant worth returning to again and again. I made reservations about 4 months in advance. Upon arrival, one of the hostesses opened the door for us, and asked us to wait in a very ornate waiting area. We only waited a couple of minutes before another hostess seated us at the main seating area. The space is very dark, and only lit with candles while the rest of the diners trickled in. During that time they take drink orders, which is limited to sake, wine, beer and a few non-alcoholic drinks. Of note, they don't provide a drink menu, so we were a little surprised by the cost - the yuzu sake and the plum wine were $30 each. My non-alcoholic drink was $12, but a fair size. The theatrical portion started a few minutes later than the official start time - closer to 6pm. The shades lifted, the lights turned on, and the chefs introduced themselves. And from that moment on, they immediately went to work preparing our meal. They operate like clockwork to show the ingredients whole to the diners, and then preparing them, and serving them. Soon as the one dish was completed by all the diners, the next round came shortly after. Over 20+ dishes, there was very little wait time in between each. I thought a few items were very average, most of them were very good, and a select few were truly outstanding. Most of the ingredients are imported from Japan, so I would imagine that it's part of the reason it's so expensive. This is definitely a splurge meal. I think half the diners at our sitting was celebrating a birthday. On the most part, the food is very good, watching the chefs at work is part of the entertainment, and the service is excellent.
