We ordered some great cocktails to start and a Cajun BBQ Shrimp Appetizer. The cocktails were great and unique, but the BBQ Shrimp was amazing. It's not like being in New Orleans, but it's pretty close! And you better believe that plate went back to the kitchen spotless!!! That BBQ sauce was bomb, which means good apparently. For some reason, we switched out waitresses halfway through, which made tipping awkward. However, each was funny and friendly in different ways. That's always a plus when you've been on the road for 10 days or so and are feeling the wear and tear on travel and bougie food. For Entree's, he ordered a salad which looked amazing, and I ordered the blackened redfish and swapped the sides for fries and carrots. The fries were absolutely amazing, as was the redfish. So good... I wish the carrots were mushier (more mushy?). That's a personal preference. Waitress #2 highly recommended the carrot cake and assured us she wouldn't pass judgment on two dudes sharing dessert. I'm glad she did as it was one of the lightest and best carrot cakes I've ever had. And the carrots WERE mushy here. Then she had the entire kitchen staff come out and laugh at us for sharing (ok, she didn't, but that would have been classic). I enjoyed my time in Bend and this place would be on my list for a repeat visit if I'm ever here again. Loved it!

Good news…read more Bad news first is this: The Drake has been sold to new owners and TONIGHT, APRIL 12, WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF SERVICE at The Drake with the original owner and the current menu. So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

Outstanding, excellent, creative, exceptional are all descriptions of my meals. I love the ambience and service too!! Josh, Nathaniel, And Jason were all helpful for our menu selections, gave us taste of wine to select the best one, and were attentive to every aspect of our dining experience. I can't wait to go back. I'm already dreaming of the zucchini appetizer, the beet salad, the caesar, the filet and seafood platter(lobster too), the scampi and linguine and the best prepared steelhead with vegie ragu. Brickhouse I really want to like eating in your restaurant, but I just cannot see a reason to dine there when there are 5 other restaurants that have similar pricing for a significantly better overall experience.
