My favorite congee place. I always order the octopus kimichi congee. They give big portions and I usually have some left over to take home . However, kinda expensive for porridge. Most of their items are about $16-18 I believe. I've tried making my own Korean porridge but it's never tasted like how they make it . Therefore, I always come here when I crave porridge . read more

They r amazingly tasty BUT very very pricy for a bowl of jook. I only get them whenever we go n visit our grandma but never when i crave some jook read more

Definitely eat in if you can. I got my food to go all the time. But eating here elevated the porridge experience. Served hot in their fancy bowls, side dishes seasoned and cut intricately with intent, perfectly complimenting the porridge, along with the classical music! Certainly appreciated the food on another level compared to eating it at home in a container. read more

Bonjuk - Octopus Kimchi and beef mushroom! Remedy any loss of appetite - Korean Near Me - Flushing, New York

This place has always been my go-to spot for whenever I need a pick-me-up. Whether it be because I'm sick, the weather is uncontainably cold, or I'm just have a craving for some porridge, this place has always satisfied with their consistent good taste. My favorite would be the Ginseng Chicken Porridge (Samgye Jook). It carries a much more refreshing taste than any of the other porridges in my opinion. I feel as if it's slightly more flavorful than the other porridges that come off much more subtle in taste. If you're into Chinese congee or even American wild rice soups, I would highly recommend giving this place a try. The ambience of this place is always relaxing and quiet. Most orders are called in for take-out, always assuring a nice table for your visit at any time. read more

Friendly advice: Go during winter. You can go during summer too but winter is the best time. The porridge will hit the spot. It's hot and very flavorful. But keep in mind the portions are huge so make sure to go with if appetite :) read more

Jook/Juk - Rice based porridge. Definitely my go to spot for winter warmth eats. Usually get the Nakji/Kimchi (Octopus-Kimchi) version. Usually get this when I'm sick or if anyone in the family is sick/unable get a proper meal. Others that are more desserty/sweet would be the red bean or pumpkin or pine nut versions. Not much side dishes here. read more

Came here on a very cold winter night with my family because we wanted something other than tofu-pot to warm our belly. We've always passed by this restaurant to go to BCD tofu house and always wondered when we will come & try Bon Juk. It is very quiet inside.. almost zen like atmosphere for a Spa, which I absolutely loved. Bon Juk is a restaurant that specializes in rice porridge (or congee). And it is unlike the Chinese watery congees that you get at Chinese restaurants. We all tried to select different type so that we can get a taste of everything. The one that stood out the most was the abalone, and it was amazing. The Juk here are served in these really big bowls and it's so flavorful and thick, you are definitely going to get full. Not to mention the individual side dishes that comes with your Juk so you each have your own portion and not have to share (if you're that selfish with your food like I am). At the end of our meal, they served us a cup of puree drink.. not so sure what it was, I'm going to guess it was sweet potato? but that was also delicious. Oh the waitress was really nice & attentive as well. The juk here might be on the expensive side, but they make up for it with the quality ingredients that were used. read more

I love this place. The juk is just delicious. Really hits the spot on a cold wintry day or whenever you're sick. Love the chicken ginseng and kimchi octopus juk. Only wish I could make it to be as delicious at home. It is magical. read more

They have really good congee here, and portion is pretty big too. I usually get the beef seaweed one. They give u kimchi and shredded beef on the side also, which I usually add into my congee to make it more flavorful. They're a bit on the pricy side though, comparing to other chinese places, but I think it's worth it. I had the real bonjuk in Korea and they taste about the same, which is pretty good. It takes awhile for them to cook it, so remember to order in advance. Parking here is just street parking, so it might take awhile to find a spot. Definitely my go to spot when I'm craving for congee or when I'm sick. read more

This is the place to go if you want juk/congee. I always go here when I'm sick or my husband is sick. Very nutritional and tasty at the same time. It's the only place I can get abalone juk or samgyejuk. read more

For me this is the type of food you eat when you are sick. But the different variety of jook that's offered here definitely brings me back even when I'm not sick. I wish the side dishes with these just had a little bit more kimchi. The only reason why it's a 4 star is because I see other people's side dishes being refilled automatically which is a bit disappointing to me since the servers walked right by me.... read more

Excellent Bunjik although the non-seafood varieties are limited for non-seafood eaters such as me. Regardless, the service is great, the chicken Bunjik is delicious and I'd come here again... read more

Being on northern blvd during rush hour it's hard to find parking... called to see if they can bring it to the car right outside in front of the store and rude receptionist said we must park and go inside... really you just lost a customer thanks for your service or should I say no service. read more

Omg defiantly a must come place. Where should I start. Didn't feel well cuz of this capricious fall weather and found out this is an amazing place to have authentic Asian style rice soup. I ordered chickens with ginseng and finished the gigantic bowl along with other pickled cabbage and radish. It soothes my stomach and my running nose was gone. Sweat a lot and definitely gonna come back. Had orchestra music as BGM and it's a quiet place. Will definitely come back . read more

I remember when I was a child my mom would make me juk if I wasn't feeling well. I've always loved juk and I'm so happy this place exists! My husband and I tried the sam gye juk and the beef & mushroom juk. Both were excellent. I love the way the place is decorated, and I even like the little trays with side dishes that come with the meal. I'll be back, for sure, in sicknesss and in health! read more

I got the Samgae congee (chicken with oriental flavors). I thought it was really good. Whereas my friend got a beef and seaweed one. We tried each other's and agreed that mine was the better one. Mine was more flavorful and somewhat reminded me of chicken pot pie. My friend's was so overpowered with seaweed. I had a small bowl of it and didn't enjoy it at all. The atmosphere is very nice too; very quiet and traditional looking. I'd come here again but I would not order the seaweed congee. read more

Bonjuk - Korean Near Me - Flushing, New York

Yes it's more expensive than Chinese Jook, but each portion is more than enough for two. Service in ok, the lady handles the phones, the takeout and has to serve. So when it's busy expect to wait. read more

Casual spot for some comfort food. All they have is congee, but the best Korean congee I've ever had!!

Just had a bad experience with waitress and no additional side dishes provided. Furthermore she asked minimum twenty% tips for lunch. BS.

Bonjuk is my favorite place to get porridge. Although its not really a place to go eat every week or so but when you're really a little under the weather nothing cheers you up like a big bowl or porridge. The veggie is honestly my favorite. Yum~ thinking about it now makes me want to go get bonjuk right now~ the store isnt too big and parking isnt good but the porridge makes it worth it read more

My favorite place when I'm sick!! All their jjuk is pretty good and they give you a huge amount! It is pretty pricey for a porridge. My favorite will have to be kimchi seafood porridge but when I'm craving something sweet, pumpkin juk is good!! The store is pretty big, and never packed!! read more

This place is a specialty korean restaurant which means the only thing on the menu is jook which is korean tradiational porridge. They have like 10 different types and each porridge has a different flavor. I tried the seafood combination one, the bon juk which has abalone in it and is really popular in Korea, the vegetable bon juk and the oyster and mushroom porridge. I liked the bon juk and seafood one the best. It is a good meal especially when you are sick or older people love it because you don't have to chew as much and it tastes good but for me, it's good but not my first choice because I am a meat eater and I like crunchy or chewy meat with my meal. It's also kind of expensive... $13-15 for porridge is kinda steep but they do give you a nice big bowl of it along with kimchee, and some side dishes. I think my parents really like this place and it is a pretty healthy meal. I recommend this place for those who want to try something different, if you are sick, have problems digesting food, elderly or just got some dental procedure and can't chew. read more

Yummy! I have just discovered this place last week and now I am hopelessly addicted. For me it is between the two flavors - sweet pumpkin and black sesame. They're so warm and creamy and comforting. Just so you know, the porridge with the mix-ins is much grainier than the creamy kind, which I prefer. The prices ARE rather steep for rice with flavors, but I think it's worth it for the love they mix in there and the fact that they specialize in juk. I have not been able to find a similar place elsewhere in NYC. read more

sheesh everything to me lately is a four star review, maybe its because my friends know where to eat or maybe because ive been deprived of so many good foods after being in asia for almost a year but anyhow, bon juk deserves this four star rating. on a cold day, me and my friend were wondering what to eat and thank god instead of pio pio she took me here. i got the octopus kimchi porridge and she got the chicken. the octopus kimchi was so good and just the right amount of spicy. porridge tastes so healthy and warming on a cold winter day, and i gobbled up the three banchan that came along with our trays: pickeled meat, kimchi and some shrimp paste kimchi that we kept asking more for. even the tea was so good, it wasn't the traditional barley tea they usually serve at korean restaurants in flushing, it was way better. however, i felt so bad because there was only one lady working and it got pretty busy so we had to wait to flag her down numerous times. next time instead of bcd, give bon juk a try people read more

Healthy and very filling. I got a huge bowl of red bean porridge that filled me up for the whole day. The staff IS friendly and I didn't realize how nice and cozy it was inside. I was expecting no frills decor but they have a nice sleek look inside and it's nice a peaceful. read more

Excellent juk! I wouldn't recommend another place for this sort of food. Great variety, delicious and fresh. Cons: inconvenient parking, women with bad attitudes at the desk, cheap with banchan and their bags (weird). read more

Comforting, soothing, and tasty, always! Plus I love the little sides that accompany the jook. My favorites are the veggie and the pumpkin.

Came here for the vegetarian congee. It was huge, hot and delicious. The dining room is very peaceful and nicely decorated. Good service as well. With your congee you get small side dishes of panchan. Everything was good, I will be going back often. read more

Delicious hot bowl of congee that's great for the winter! Very flavorful, can be a bit of a wait, but well worth it. I think 1 order would have been good for 2 people. read more

Boyfriend ordered a chicken congee for me and brought it over since I'm rotting away in bed because of this stupid cold. But the congee has uplifted me and gave me this warm feeling inside. It was creamy and savory and I even tasted it through my bland taste palette due to my cold. read more

Hearty congee! Everything is cooked after you make an order. They have a variety of selections here. I had mushroom and beef congee. It tasted great! My boyfriend had pumpkin and it was more like a smoothie/soup and did not have rice in it. Unlike some other restaurants that use overwhelming sauces and condiments, this place brings you simple yet delicious food. read more

This is the go to place for yummy hearty Korean congee....love it! been coming here for years and will continue.

Pretty good congee Korean style. The place is small and very clean. I would definitely go back again. Many selections to choose from

Although a bit on the pricey side, the congee here is nutritious and tasty. Decor is very neat and clean and the service is outstanding, as if I was visiting a five star restaurant. Great place, I always stop by before visiting someone who is sick. Congee is the Asian remedy for common health issues like a cold, kind of like chicken noodle soup. If yur on a budget, stick wit a can of chunky's chicken noodle but if yu wanna show yur deepest concern and wish for their well being, get them one of these and they will love it. I always stop here for a warm bowl of congee on a cold day, or to get some for my parents who love them very much. read more

This is a chain in Korea that I wish they had more of here in the states. Hearty, warm, full feeling when you eat this juk. Great for when you are sick, or need a filling hangover cure. The seafood and the abalone juks are both hits. Highly recommend. read more

We came here on a night we were trying to experience as much Korean food as NYC (and queens in particular) had to offer. This was one of the most heartwarming soups I have ever tried. The octupus bonjuk was fantastic. I would come back and try other options as well. It had the usual korean sides, pickles and the like, as well as some sides to cool off the palate, and delicious tea. I found the food first rate. I am comparing this place other soup and comfort food locations. The fact that they don't put MSG, and really offer a clean porridge with quality ingredients, makes all the difference for me. If I lived close by, I'd probably come once every week or two. You may ask how I could give this place, a small soup shop, the same 5 star rating as another top of the line expensive restaurant? The food here was food rate, and ultimately, that's the most important. I also agree with another reviewer that it had a zen like quality inside, quiet and serene, perfect to match the soup. Good work NYTimes review! read more

best congee place ever!! loved everything except the pumpkin congee~ will come back many more times and try everything on their menu! beef mushroom/kimchi octopus/ seafood / everything read more

Amazing congee. I can had two bowls, recommending . Please only try salty one. Not everyone can handle the sweet congee in there place.

Terrible experience today. Ordered a takeout 45 minutes early. Arrived and did not put my order in. Ordered again and accidentally gave my order to another customer and left with it. Then waited again and messed up my order when I went home. I'm done with this place. And messed up my plans because she kept messing up my order. read more

Ordered the chicken and ginseng juk without scallions; however, still got scallions as part of my order. Regardless, I ordered the juk for my friend who had food poisoning and it was very good. The consistency of it was a bit too thick, but the flavors are there and the addition of the soy sauce beef, kimchi, and paste on the side works really well in the bowl. read more
