The Madison location was a welcome sight among chain type eateries. As a rule I steer a wide berth when seeking food and recognized icons selling factory line vittles. Bonefish is my favorite exception. Around 10 years back I first joined some friends at an interesting looking restaurant in a Chicago northern suburb, Northbrook. The town my wife grew up in and she had family and many friends that we'd visit several times a year. The first visit I recall two great items aside from great drinks. Bang Bang Shrimp, an appetizer that I've since enjoyed in varying forms to lesser appeal. Crispy lightly battered shrimp with mildly spicy dressing. To date it's still the first thing we request, along with cocktails naturally. As I think, the Tuna Sashimi was also a very nice appetizer. The other was the salmon. Sides vary. Mashed potatoes were likely what I had since I always like to indulge in the starch that delivers butter well! That was then. I'm uncertain if that place is still in operation since I haven't been there now in at least a few years. But thankfully, around the last time I did eat there, the chain moved into my region and are just a short Uber ride home for the times I have to leave my car to save my vip parking spot for the following day. Last time I ate there I had Chilean Bass. OMG! Not a budget friendly meal in my world, but well worth every one of the twenty-eight hundred or so that plate set me back that evening! That particular eve we enjoyed the nice outdoor seating, and the entire family was well pleased with each of their equally well prepared meals. Today is my wife's birthday so tonight I'd planned to take her there for dinner, but this year instead she's joining a friend of hers (who coincidentally was also the very one who first introduced us to Bonefish all those years back!) for a work paid for trip to the Bahamas for the next five or so days. Leaving me to tend to the offspring. I'm tempted to load those two little whiners to accompany me as we ourselves enjoy an order of bang bang shrimp. But in second thought, they'd much rather get ice cream for dinner from Culver's, and this dad has no major issue with a nice vitamin I and D loaded bowl of vanilla and caramel cold stuff if the moms not gonna know about it. I'll hit Bonefish Grill next week when my wife returns and wants to tell me all about the lovely warm weather down south. read more

Went to Bonefish in Madison, WI. I was here on business and need to find dinner. I hadn't been to Bonefish in a while and used to have the rainbow trout which I orders this time with mash potato, and asparagus. The meal was just average. I asked for lemon caper sauce but the fish was very dry. I asked for mor sauce but it didn't help. The others in the group had different dishes but nothing to write home about. I can say the service was great and the atmosphere was nice. read more

I returned for my second trip in a week with a party of 6. Everyone ordered something different so I had the pleasure of seeing and tasting more dishes. The lobster fried rice is out of this world good! The lobster bisque was fresh and flavorful. This is being said by someone who does not care for lobster and I would certainly order both dishes. I ordered the basil fettucinni with salmon. It had a bit of a citrus flavor. Just a tad bit too much, however, I added some cracked pepper on top to calm down the flavor and it helped. Dish was still great. And of course, the bang bang shrimp were still bangin'! What would make this a 5 star would be adding more to their menu. It's fairly small. That being said, I do think there is a payoff to that which is better quality food with smaller ticket times. Larger menus can make this a bit problematic. Still, adding more variety of seafood, maybe some steaks and one additional kind of burger along with their Kobe burger would be ideal in my opinion. I will be a regular diner. read more

Went for dinner last night. 45 minute wait to be seated, after being told 20-30. Arggg! I have no patience, so a 45 minute wait really made me unhappy. We made a dinner out of appetizers. Bang Bang shrimp, pot stickers, tuna, calamari, ceviche. Chocolate brulee for dessert. Pictures aren't the greatest, but oh well. Shrimp - very good. Hubby's favorite. Pot stickers - ok, nothing fancy. Not worth the price. Tuna - pretty good, don't know that I'd order it again. Calamari - OUTSTANDING. My favorite of the night. Ceviche - hubby loved it, I hated it. Dessert - delicious! We will be returning! read more

I had a gift-card for Bonefish Grill from Christmas, so we decided using it over the weekend was in order. The restaurant is large with multiple rooms and plenty of tables, not too mention ample parking. A hostess greeted us at the door and we had only a short wait until we were seated. Our waitress was friendly, efficient, and knew what she was doing. She clearly described the specials and suggested we try one of the customer favorites: the Bang Bang Shrimp. We ordered that and drinks and then continued to peruse the menu. For drinks I had Bonefish Grill's version of a Moscow Mule. The copper mug was on the smaller side but they made up for it by including candied ginger. This was very tasty. I also tried the white sangria. It was super-sweet. I left most of it at the table as I was unable to finish it. Unless you enjoy Moscato and sweet fruit juice I would stay away from this. We also enjoyed a margarita and a craft beer. Nothing special, but decently made. When the appetizer arrived I ordered the Pecan Parmesan Crusted Rainbow Trout and my partner ordered a grilled fish from the specials menu. The Bang Bang shrimp was a pretty pile of popcorn shrimp bathed in a creamy, slightly spicy sauce. I would have preferred a sticky sweet and spicy sauce. This was a heavy mayo-like consistency and strongly reminded me of Hibachi Yum Yum sauce. Just about the time we started to wonder where our entrees were, they arrived. The trout was cooked perfectly but didn't have much flavor. For sides I had the sauteed spinach which was also cooked perfectly and the garlic whipped potatoes which were creamy and flavorful. The two sides were actually my favorite part of the meal. My partner was disappointed with the size of his fillet, especially considering the price and size of mine (my trout was a decent size). He said the flavor of the fillet was very good. He had the spinach and Potatoes Au Gratin and like me, he thought the sides were the best part of this meal. I'm not opposed to going back to Bonefish Grill. I wouldn't mind trying some of their other dishes. However, at that price point, I think there are other, more consistently tasty options in the area. read more

I reallyime this place but the last time the meet was dry and the shrimp overcook too!! And overall high price

As we walked in we had to wait around for around 5 minutes for anyone to come seat us. There were only 6 other people in the place eating. The atmosphere was amazing but the service was horrible. The server didn't ask if we would like anything to drink. They bring a smaller glass vase of water but never brought anymore. The prices for the portion size wasn't good at all. We left there and ended up having to go to McDonalds to get full. read more

I love this place so much. The food is amazing; the decor is lovely and comfortable. My favorite dishes are: Bang Bang Shrimp, Thermidor Gnocchi, and Fish and Chips. read more

This restaurant was amazing. The food was so good and the owner came to our table several time to make sure we were taken care. The red sangria was amazing. You have to try the bang bang shrimp for an appetizer. We ordered it and had to order another one because it was so good. Highly recommended to try this place. read more

What can I say, but what a great place that takes care of their customers!!! Brought wife here for here birthday. All meals were great but the fish. Fish was good but ours ended up over powered by the burning wood. Our fish ended up having a very strong Burnt Wood flavor. Management found out and bent over backwards to make it right. They ended up comping our entire meals. With strong customer service, I will be back. read more

First time visit with my parents. Loved the atmosphere and the layout. Noise level was good as was the ambiance. Wednesdays a local radio station runs a 98 cent wine promotion for happy hour, which is a great deal. Unfortunately, the service and the food didn't measure up to expectations. We had to wait a long time to be served and 2 of the 3 dinners missed the mark. Might be worth another visit, but this one was a bit disappointing. read more

No matter what location, Bonefish does not disappoint. The service and the food is top notch.

Since most communities have independently-owned upscale restaurants,.the idea of dining at an 'upscale restaurant chain' such as Bonefish Grill often eludes me. Nevertheless, we had a better-than-expected time dining here. The ambiance set a great tone and high expectations for the night. We kicked off with seasonal cocktails and I appreciated that the Grapefruit Basic Martini was 'fresh and grapefruity.' It featured the 'bitter' side of 'bittersweet' which really hit the spot after cookie-filled holidays. The meal began with fresh-based bread and seasoned dipping oil. It was tasty, but it wasn't inhaled as quickly as the coconut Thai Shrimp appetizer we ordered. Both the Shrimp bisque and shrimp/scallop entree impressed the 'SeaFoodie' in our group. I enjoyed the Sirloin and Crab Cake entree. The crab cake was loaded with flaky crab meat and the sauce that accompanied it added flavor to the crab cake, my steak, and the bland crab-fried rice side dish. Service was excellent. When they brought the wrong taco entree to a guest at our table, they replaced it quickly with an apology and a free dessert. Bonefish Grill doesn't compare to the best high-end local restaurants, but the food and drinks are good -- as are the prices. On Tuesday, they offer a variety of three-course dinner options for less than $20. read more

update--still great food--and now greatly improved service. Servers are upbeat and friendly and check back to ensure satisfaction. One important suggestion: Please consider changing out the loud, teeny-bopper type music. With an elegant menu and more senior crowd, select background music that is not deafening and promotes the overall ambiance: classical music would be relaxing and appealing to all ages. The current tapes make one feel like they are dining in a roller rink on teen night. Thanks for your consideration! read more

I came here back in summer for a Yelp event and wanted to come back for a regular dining experience. Protip: They do have a happy hour menu (I believe it's pretty close to ~4-6p M-F) that is available outside of the bar area. We had to specifically ask for it, so do so. Overall, very nice experience and decent food. The only thing I would say in the negative, is that the lighting in the dining room vacillates drastically between very harsh to low light every few feet. What I tried: Cod sliders- Great little nibbles. These are on the bar menu, and are definite worth it! Cod Imperial stuffed with shrimp, scallops, crabmeat, Mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses and lemon caper butter- I love this one. It had lots of things going on that went together great. The lemon caper butter sauce you harmonizes everything. Yum! blueberry lemon drop- This one is sweet and tangy. Very nice flavor balance. Also a winner. read more

I don't normally frequent chain restaurants but this location is close to family and they have treated us really well over the last five years or so. The outdoor area is pleasant, the food is consistently good, the bar can mix a drink well and it's really several steps above any other chain I can think of. Additionally, the service is efficient, on point and friendly. The bread and pesto is a nice touch. And now, during COVID, the family bundles are a fun and tasty value. Curbside or inside or on the patio, Bonefish is surprisingly tasty. read more

I made reservations here for 2 on NYE. I wasn't super impressed with the service upon arrival - we had reservations for 6:15 and walked in at about 6:12, the manager at the host stand seemed super annoyed and asked for my name, and told me that it would be a few minutes since we were early. He then seated us in the bar area which I thought was kind of strange. Luckily, our waiter was fantastic and got our drink orders in ASAP. We got the Bang Bang Shrimp as an app and thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered the salmon which was cooked perfect, and the sides I got with it were both great as well. I'd definitely eat here again! read more

My girlfriend and I went here to use our gift cards and to celebrate an interview. I started with the seasonal cocktail- White Winter Cranberry Martini. This was a dangerous drink! It was a good balance of sweet and tart, and could have easily turned into 3 more. For meals, I had the wood-fire grilled shrimp and scallops with a side of green beans and jasmine rice. My girlfriend got the house salad with wood-fire grilled shrimp. We both loved the shrimp, and I like the chimichurri sauce I got with mine. The scallops were not bad either. I think I'm still getting used to scallops, which is why I did not enjoy them as much as the shrimp. I wish we had room for dessert, but that will have to wait for another time! Again, the service was excellent, and we felt well taken care of. The gift cards did not cover drinks, but that was not noted on the card. Not a big deal, but would have been nice to know! read more

Very disappointed in our meal last night. I ordered the grilled shrimp with pineapple glaze over a coconut risotto. When it was served the food was Luke warm. I asked that it be heated. No problem. It came back slightly warmer, though the dish was hot to touch which told Me so so e put the whole thing in the microwave. Oh well. The risotto was a big clump with very little coconut flavor. The shrimp were nicely grilled though did not have the pineapple glaze. The side vegetable was broccoli which was from frozen not fresh. A thorough disappointment. read more

I returned this year to be even more thoroughly impressed with the staff, service, and food at Bonefish Grill! Our server was attentive, friendly, and prompt. The highlight of the meal was the personal service from the culinary manager, Rod (maybe Ron, sorry!!). He greeted our table and when he discovered it was my boyfriend's birthday, he made sure to check in on us several times and even prepared an incredible dessert free of charge! He was absolutely amazing and made our experience so special. I have nothing but praise for the staff and for their amazing food. We will definitely return for more special occasions, if not more often! read more

We have been fans of Bonefish Grill for years. Today, because we could not get together with the family, we ordered curbside pickup. Curbside delivery was prompt. The food was very good, although they had broccoli, which I did not order. But the Mahi was tasty, the grilled shrimp was perfectly cooked. Everything else, salad, bread, dipping sauce, salsa and mashed potatoes was yummy. Huge portions, so we will have left overs. Not quite as good as eating in the restaurant, which we love, but under the circumstances this was the way to go. read more

Food was mushy and no flavoring. Never coming again the new cook is not good. Top of it got charged for the meal that I didn't eat.

I very rarely feel strongly enough about a restaurant to leave a review, but I just felt so disappointed with this place that I had to write something. My wife and I went out for our anniversary this afternoon at around 4 p.m., so it wasn't quite dinner time, but that's just what we do. Anyhow, we ordered the pot stickers for an appetizer. They were okay, nothing special, although I'll admit the pickled vegetables that came with them were good. My issue is that before we even touched any of the food, my wife found a hair on one of the pot stickers. We're not usually the type to throw a fit over that, so we just took it off, looked for others and ate the food. Fine. For my entree I ordered the sirloin steak and lobster tail, which was $27.90. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium. When I cut into my steak, it would be generous to call it medium well. There was almost no pink left in it. I figure, it's no big deal. I'll just send it back. Again, I rarely do this, but I paid nearly $30 for my meal; so I figured I'd at least enjoy it. The server happily took the steak back to the kitchen. When they brought it back out, it was nicely seared on the outside but nearly raw on the inside. I'm talking rare. At that point, I said nothing. I wasn't about to send the steak back a second time, because it almost seemed vindictive how undercooked it was when all I asked for was a medium steak. I just ate it and asked for the bill as soon as we were done. All that said, our server was very good. She was friendly and gave us the right amount of space and attention as we needed it. I was just disappointed in the food, especially for the price. From other reviews, it seems like my experience may be an outlier. Maybe we went too early. At any rate, I just wanted to share my experience. read more

Great place! We hosted a post-funeral luncheon for 70 people at Bonefish Grill. Disappointed with my time at this restaurant. First we walk in to like 7 people at the host stand and not one person greets us until we stood and stared at them for like 30 seconds. Weird. The tables were covered with weird table clothes and paper on top. It looked awful and was annoying to hear all the servers walking around crumpling paper everywhere. My boyfriend and I ordered the Norwegian salmon. His was with spinach and lump crab on top.. except there was literally no crab on it. Why pay the extra $5 when all they did was throw leaves of spinach on top? Also our server checked on us only one time when we first got our food and I had to flag down someone to get a box. Finally she came with the check after a long time. She didn't seem to really care about her work. She was short and had an attitude. read more

Saturday morning brunch with my hubs! Thankfully we investigated Yelp, as this was and is not Closed for lunch! Very thankful too! Great atmosphere and service, made this unexpected date fun and relaxing. Had a very knowledgeable waitress, who did not mind communicating with the chef to confirm what I wanted to eat, did not have anything on my food allergy list. Yep I am that customer, but a foodie and appreciate the help through the menu! Ordered Steak and Lobster Eggs Benedict with Grits! Steak was served, as order and mouth watering. I have eaten at the Bonefish Grill in the west side multiple times and I like the food so today when I decided to treat myself to a cheat meal I placed an order through Ubereats. I was confident that my food would come as it has multiple times before...good, hot and aesthetically pleasing, I was sooooo wrong. This is not a bash review though because what started as a horrible experience ended with a smile. I order the sirloin and shrimp, steak medium rare on the rare side, bacon Mac and Kung POW Brussels sprouts along with crab cakes and cheesecake...did I get what I ordered you might ask...hell no. I called and spoke with the owner and he offered to make it right and although I was weary because anyone that has had to send food back knows that you are always skeptical of your new meal but I must say the new steak was cooked to perfection, the shrimp were extremely good. I want to thank the owner for his ability to listen without deflecting or being defensive or dismissive , for taking ownership of the situation and his promise to make the situation right. The wine was delicious too btw, if you happen to read this read more

I've been to Bonefish Grill 3 times now. Food was amazing, the bang bang shrimp is hands down to die for as well as the Chilean sea bass and lobster stuffed shrimp. I was on the fence of giving 5 stars but the customer service is out of this world for a chain like restaurant. My first two experiences were great. Food and service was on point the whole time. The last time there were a few small issues that left me a little less than satisfied. I sent a message to the company and the JVP of Bonefish reached out to me personally to make sure everything was handled. I was very happy with the prompt customer service, and thought the situation was handled better than I expected it would. Please give Bonefish a try. read more

This place is excellent for happy hour! $4 wines, $5 cocktails & $6 apps. And obviously the bang! Bang! Shrimp is to die for. They put the crunchy flavorful shrimp on a bed of lettuce for that freshness. Everyone at the bar ordered it. On a personal note, we were there celebrating my besties last day of chemo. We let the bartender know.. awhile later the manager came out and made a big deal about it, gave her a candle with chocolate, and said her candle lights forever. it was very sweet. Nice touch Bonefish! read more

My grandma just loves this place and I am glad she does because it gives me a reason to splurge on myself. While the prices are a bit steep for me to eat here regularly, I will say that the food served is worth the price. Now, you are just plain cheating yourself if you do not try the Bang Bang Shrimp. Try them as an appetizer or in the tacos. Whatever you do, just try them. If you have this year's Bucky Book, you have no excuse, as there is a "Complimentary Bang Bang Shrimp" coupon when you purchase an entree. Outside of the Bang Bang Shrimp, I have tried the crab cakes, lobster stuffed shrimp, the Wagyu burger, truffle mac and cheese, and the spicy tuna bowl. My tastebuds have not been disappointed once by my selections. Ok. Ok. So the food is AH-MAZING. What about the service and ambience? Well, the decor is very light and elegant. The lighting is dim and romantic. Every server I have had has been attentive, helpful, and patient. They know how to train their staff for sure! Tonight the manager even stopped by our table (I believe he said his name was Casey) to make sure we were enjoying our experience. It is always refreshing when management makes themselves apart of the atmosphere and chats with tables, rather than just coming around when there is a problem. Bonefish Grill for the win! read more

My husband and I have been here multiple times and have never had a bad experience. Their food is always amazing! We typically go on Tuesday nights which is their deal night that for a 3 course meal it starts at $16.90. We always get the steak and it is so juicy and flavorful! And since you are at Bonefish Grill you have to get an appetizer of Bang Bang Shrimp which is just $6 instead of the regular price when you order it with the dinner special. The cocktails here are also very good. This is just a great place to grab dinner with friends and/or family that isn't too overpriced. read more

I can't get enough of this place! I want to try everything on the menu! The price is very reasonable! I had the chocolate Creme brûlée and I must say its the best in town! Bonefish Grill has a lot of potential it doesn't tap in to. It has a good location on the west side of Madison and a good exterior/interior appearance. However, each time I visit it gets close to impressing and then fails to do so. We dined at Bonefish this past Saturday evening. Once we were seated it was immediately noticeable that the music was far too loud. Not only was the music far too loud, but it was also Techno music. Given the restaurant's clientele I don't think their music volume and music choice is the best idea. Most of the diners were middle aged, some with children in tow. For being a Saturday evening, the restaurant was half empty. Perhaps, that is reflection of the fact that the restaurant is just ok for the price you pay. Our waitress was friendly. When the lobster tails we ordered arrived, they were served without melted butter. After finally flagging down an employee to inquire about the butter, she stated the kitchen had been out and was making more and implied we should have known that already. Strange. My Moscow mule was tasty. The bread and olive oil dipping sauce was also good. Once the butter arrived the lobster didn't disappoint. However, I find that their sides are lackluster. They are just ok, nothing to write home about. For dessert we tried the homemade donuts with whipped cream and salted caramel sauce and they were by far the best item of the evening. In summary, I recommend if Bonefish wants to retain and gain new diners they should turn down the music, select more dining appropriate music and amp up their entrée sides. This would ensure the dining experience you get is more in line with the prices they charge. read more

HERE. WE. GO. * Mahi Mahi: starting off with my least favorite--the mahi mahi was pretty dry. Even though they advertised it to be fresh and grilled to perfection. The seasonings that came on it, just weren't quite enough to supplement how dry it was and I didn't really care of it at all * Bang Bang Shrimp: I was expecting a bigger bang, but it was quite good. The portion of this dish was bigger than I expected, so theres a plus! The flavors were pretty good, but bordered along the line of popeyes shrimp with sauce on it. Not saying it's a bad thing, but I think I was expecting something a little different from the dish as a whole. I would probably order it as tacos or with a starch side because the flavors get to be a little much. * Sea Bass: so first of all. I LOVE seabass. Make it miso seabass and I'm in heaven. Bonefish must have seen me coming because this dish is what really won me over. It was moist, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend and I know I'll be back to have it. Overall, this place's food was good, not great, what really did it for me was the service! We had started at the bar and were readily attended to. I got a mule which was a bit sweet for me, but my friend got a cocktail and it was pretty good (forgive me for not remembering what exact drink it was). We made some small talk with the bartender and he was very gracious to keep refilling our water and getting our check promptly once our table was ready. The waitress was really great. I need to start documenting their names, but blonde hair and super happy. She was amazingly attentive, gave some great recommendations and added to our conversation a bit she was very sweet and made our night at bonefish. Overall, I've been to a good amount of places in Madison. For Seabass, I will definitely return and if not for that the service and the people. happy eating! read more
