A Friday night dinner with friends. It was a slow night. The food was excellent. Service was okay. The server was nice but seemed disorganized. On previous visits they brought really good bread with our drinks. We didn't get bread this visit. Halfway through the meal our server asked if we'd like some. We said yes but it never arrived. It's the little things. We stared with the crab cakes $15.90 for two. Dinners do not include soup or salad. A side Caesar salad is $5.90 and the lobster bisque is $8.90. Our table ordered the De Mar linguine the special $18.90, the thermidor filet another special $37.90, sea bass $38.90 and the salmon $25.50. Most dinners come with two side with an upcharge of $3.90 for a signature side. Of course you want the upgraded sides. Cocktail prices are on par with other area restaurants. The food was excellent. Amazing food & equally amazing service. We used the online reservation system to book a table beforehand. We arrived about 10 minutes early & were promptly given a table. Our server did an amazing job with the recommendations. We went for their special appetizer - shrimp dips, for entree we ordered the crab cakes & sirloin steak & shrimp combo with a side of creamy Parmesan risotto. Ended with their chocolate crème brûlée. Food tasted really good. The place felt a little towards a fine dining experience but more casual. We got a gift card and bonefish grill was one of the places it was accepted. I've wanted to try Bonefish since I moved to Madison. Our server was friendly but forgot to ask if we wanted refills/more water during our meal. She did refill promptly once we asked though! The hype about the bang bang shrimp is real. Amazing. Didn't even get a picture because it was GONE. The soft warm bread they serve before your meal is also incredible and how tasty the pesto dipping sauce cannot be explained, only experienced. I ordered the steak with mashed potatoes and upgraded to brussell sprouts for sides. Mashed potatoes were average but the brussel sprouts were fantastic! Steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We walked in at 5pm. More than half the restaurant is empty and we're told it would be an hour wait. So we sat at the bar with our 10 year old. We ordered a scallop and shrimp scampi pasta for my wife and I to split (it tasted excellent but it had the smallest scallops we've ever seen). We also ordered the only burger on the menu for our son (which comes with fries and coleslaw) and asked to leave it plain with nothing else on it just cheese and ketchup. The bartender/waitress seemed confused and asked "no beef?". We said no, we do want beef, cheese and ketchup, nothing else on it. It came out pretty - with all the ingredients, onion, lettuce, some other sauce, no ketchup, no fries, no coleslaw. WTF? We tried to take off all the ingredients but ultimately we had to have the burger made and ask for the fries we were missing. Later the bartender said that she realized her mistake afterward and was sorry because she had been here for eight hours... we struggled against the glass of beer I ordered when I first got here sat empty for 20 minutes as well (remember we're at the bar and the bartender/waitress had to come over four times). I don't know what these guys have going on that no one is here and they cant keep up, but I would not recommend. read more

Before I give my review about the food, our waitress Nina was the best. I walked out of my house with the wrong debit card, I was super embarrassed because I had to pay the rest of the bill in quarters. She was so kind about it, I could have curled in a hole and cried. The servers were great too, I came back to give her a tip and a customer was being rude to the servers. I wanted to say something to the customer but I do not think it would have been pretty. Okay why does people think that this restaurant is a five star restaurant. The calamari had to much breading and it was rubbery. Who wants to chew on rubber. The mashed potatoes were okay, the soup was good. But the best part of the meal was the bread & drinks. Sorry I do not give this a five star review like people talk about it. read more

My wife and I recently dined here, and although the food was decent, we were visited by a manager who was visibly sick and not wearing a mask!! He was coughing and sneezing all over and we felt unsafe with him being in such close proximity to our food ESPECIALLY without a mask. Upon inquiry, our server informed us that he doesn't just have a cold, he has the FLU along with half of their kitchen staff! The customers there, at least at the time we dined, were primarily 75+ and it scares me to think of them being served infected food. The blatant disregard for customer's wellbeing by not wearing a mask and continuing to serve food is disturbing to me. If most of your staff is sick, CLOSE THE RESTAURANT. Starting off the New Year Jan 6th The tables looked beautiful, lightning was dim but not too dim. The dining room can be a bit noisy when filled with conversation, but its beautiful. Our service was wonderful. I had: Kate's Wild North Atlantic Haddock Pinko dusted talked with feta cheese, artichoke hearts, and finished with a lemon basil butter sauce The food was tasty, asparagus was a bit over cooked. We'll probably would've been very tasty with broccolini. A little more color to the plate would've been nice. Perhaps a mild blackening option with the lemon. Perhaps some sort of light fruit garnish lingonberries, pomegranate... something. The food had good flavor. I got a daily special, it seems slightly like chain restaurant food. I've been here a few times now, the 3rd being on valentines with my girlfriend and her cousin so I was usually okay with the food. But the most recent visit was extremely disappointing for me and my girlfriend. Most of the food was alright, but the grouper I ordered was extremely dry, but the worst part was the service. We went around 1:30pm on the weekday and it didn't seem very busy, only a couple other tables were filled up. But for some reason, our server named Sybil was extremely standoffish. I get it if people are having a bad day, that's fine. Our bill came out to $110 which was fine, I knew what to expect since I've been here before, and I was planning on tipping $30 because I thought our server could just be having a bad day. But my girlfriend could feel the off-putting vibes as well, especially after it seemed so difficult to ask for a refill of water once, by other staff since our server only came by to check on us one time after we received our food. But when our server was taking quite a while to come back so I could pay the bill, I went up to the hostess to see if we were supposed to pay up at the front because we were waiting for about 10-15 minutes to just pay. The hostess told us our server would come back to the table so we were about to sit back down, and Sybil was rushed over and just stood behind me, no pleasantries or a simple "hi, I can take the check from you now", just held out her hand in silence. I handed over my card and the check and she just silently walked away and had the same disgruntled look on her face the whole time. Nothing so much as a thank you when returning with the check and my card, and just leaves. I understand it's rough working in service industry, a lot of my friends work in bars and restaurants so I hear the unpleasant side a lot. But I have never felt more unwelcome in an establishment. Either way, we still tipped $20 because people need to make a living, but Sybil ensured we would never come back here again for the very okay and overpriced food and the extremely rude service. read more

We come to Bonefish Grill quite frequently, my husband for the twin lobster tails and I for the chicken marsala and other dishes. We love the bang bang shrimp and the bread that goes with it. It's always delicious and our favorite server, Cam, is always very friendly, upbeat, and accommodating. We also love the atmosphere of the covered outside porch in warmer or rainy weather. When you live in Wisconsin it's always nice to be able to eat outside as often as possible. read more

Our first visit to a Bonefish Grill was a bullseye. We were in town for a show and noticed that they had a location near our hotel. It was a nicer place inside than we expected, which was a nice surprise! Our server Jesus was wonderful, and our food and specialty cocktails (espresso martini and smoked old fashioned) were prepared with care and brought to us promptly. My girlfriend and I had a pretty disappointing Valentines Day dinner here. We waited in line for 15 minutes even though we had a reservation. No worries, it was a holiday and busy. We were very excited for the filet mignon and lobster tail dinner. We sat down and ordered our drinks and the lobster and crab dip. Halfway through the dip is when the whole experience went downhill, other than the long wait to start. While eating our crab and lobster dip we found an overfried calamari in our dip. We told the waitress and she was nice and apologetic. Somehow a whole appetizer of calamari made it to our table. We weren't charged for it because we didn't order it but it was laughable so we ate a couple bites of it. It was pretty good actually, same with the lobster dip. We went to order our dinner that we were very excited for and the waitress told us that THEY WERE OUT OF STEAK. ON VALENTINES DAY. The owner came and gave us a $25 gift card but that didn't really do the justice. What bothered me about it was the fact that they didn't tell us this at the door. They had this tactic where they would sit you down and see if you ordered it, and if you did then they would bring the giftcard out and own up to their mistake. Owning up to their mistake would be to take down the big steak and lobster sign at the front door down, and inform you of this before you sit at the table. This way you can decide if you want to stay and eat, or go elsewhere. Anyways we made the best of it and ordered desert. When the owner brought us the $25 gift card he said the meal would be discounted which it never was. Nothing was taken off the bill other than the appetizer that we didn't order in the first place. The food was honestly pretty good, but the way they handled the situation left a bad taste in my mouth. Spent $160 on a dinner that we didn't really want. It was an empty table when we sat down so that was very apparent. First dish out was the appetizer. Their new ceviche. We thought - why not? Mistake. Accordingly the description, it is based off the traditional Peruvian dish. It did not turn out that way. Shrimp, scallops, and fish looks more cooked than usual. The biggest disappointment was the used of carrot cubes. The hard texture just did not go with the rest of the dish. We didn't get to finish the appetizer because the bread came after a reminder that they did not bring any out and just as we got started on the bread, our entrees came too. So the service is very fast tonight. Way too fast for us as we ended up packing the appetizer to go because we wanted to eat our entrees while they are warm. The entrees today was very salty. My dining companion has a high tolerance for salt and she found the dish very salty. Sautéed spinach was salty. Soft shell crab was very salty. She ate it with the bread that came out late. My creole redfish was also salty. Server said next time, just say it is too salty and they will re-do it. Will remember to do that next time or simply ask for less salt. For a chain restaurant, Bonefish Grill is amazing. First of all, we started with the bread. Freshly baked. The pesto sauce was a bit salty for me. We went with fish this time. I got Chilean sea bass, and my boyfriend got salmon. The fish were cooked perfectly well. I got sautéed spinach and coleslaw to go with my Chilean sea bass. I loved the spinach so much. It was cooked al dente. You could taste the freshness of all the vegetables. I also got a cup of corn and crab chowder. It was not as thick as like lobster bisque, but a bit creamy. For appetizer, we got fried calamari. So tender. It melted to your mouth, but it was a bit salty. Wish there was some type of sauces to go with it. Overall, love the place. But kind and understood I needed to just relax and look at the menu a bit. I ordered a Fall special of the breaded cod and shrimp. But asked for the shrimp to be grilled. The breaded cod was excellent. I substituted mashed potatoes and they were totally not special. And the shrimp were the size of the smallest you can get at the grocery. Like one size up from the tiny shrimp ppl use in dips. Seasoned, but didn't seem grilled, and were off tasting. I asked for another piece of cod instead. Was offered a vegetable. We decided too try somewhere new for our date night and landed on Bonefish. My husband really wanted to try their Bang Bang Shrimp, so he got the appetizer, and ordered some asparagus on the side. Now, go look at my photo of said asparagus and come back.... that mini order of asparagus was $7. That is laughable. And we joked about it the rest of the night. The shrimp was tasty and it at least had a built in salad underneath to eat with all the extra sauce. I ordered a Filet Mignon, which was not the quality at all that I am used to. It was just a regular tenderloin at $22. I had to ask if they had Sautéed mushrooms because they didn't have any on the menu? So strange. It was good, just not what you expect. The garlic mashed were good and the green beans had good flavor, but were super stringy. Our server was bubbly, but never came to check on us, even after someone else brought us our food.
