When you walk in, you place your order at the counter, and bring an order number to your table. I'm on the search for the best pizza in Madison, and Novanta made it pretty high on my list. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the flavors were simple but delicious, like most Neapolitan pizzas. I'm a huge fan of pizzas baked in stone ovens, and I was not disappointed by Novanta's ovens, which were imported from Italy. The staff was very friendly! I was starving after touching down at the airport since they don't feed lunch anymore for domestic flights so I came looking for some good food. With 2 Wood fire pizza ovens and an open kitchen concept, this place was it for me. Pizza: personal size, got the Salsiccia ($13) which was delicious. Crust was amazing, thin but scrumptious. Service: it was empty when I went at 2 and you order and pay first even if dining in. A lady (I believe her name was Lugenia?) was manning the front. Had to ask for napkins and asked for a cup of water. Got the napkins and an empty cup, water never showed up, no explanation. An elderly white couple showed up afterwards and they got the whole speech, come to find out (by eavesdropping) that there's a water fountain in the back. Well now I'm glad I tipped for no service at all. As I was leaving, a young lad was changing shifts with her and he seemed very friendly and thanked me for coming in. So maybe I just got unlucky with the service because he seemed a lot chipper. Parking: in the back, make a right at the light after passing the bagels shop. TLDR: come for the great pizza, but service could probably be a hit or miss. Takeout pizza would be amazing here. read more

The Neapolitan pizzas were just amazing! It was our first time in this restaurant so we requested the server to give us recommendations. We just went with the ones he suggested to us - a red sauce version & one within the sauce. You have to grab your own seat and own left over boxes. It was a very casual dining setup. At 6:45 on a Friday night, it was pretty full. The portions of pizzas were probably enough for 1.5 persons. We ordered 2 pizzas, and 2 of their desserts. Nice digs! Good pizza. The vibe is some weird cozy romantic quasi-Noodles and Company hybrid. It's fast casual dining. You order when you walk in and they bring a fresh fresh tomato pie to you! Very much a family establishment! They got huge pizza ovens that are all mosaicked on the outside you can see. We got a Bufala and a Diovala. Buffalo had Buffalo? I don't really know. It was a special that day. It was very mushroomy and creamy. The prosciutto was definitely the selling point there. The diovala was a classic pepperoni pizza. Altogether it was about 26 bucks! Stellar. I always have a great experience when I want to get myself a treat that's shaped like a frisbee. Kristin, the wonderful lady who I met the first time I crossed the threshold some time ago, always recall my name as well as the typical Pie I can never recall the name of, but even when I call in advance, she recognizes my voice or whatever, it's a "hey Norm" type of welcoming gesture that I always hold as the greatest compliment from a place I want to visit and give my money to. The pizzas, I've have a decent cross section of the overall menu, and while one or two don't meet my expectations, even they are pretty darn good. The crust, as I write all too frequently, is the near impossible ingredient to be consistently perfect, making a good item into a an exceptional piece of artisan pizza. Few places in Madison are consistently up to this standard. Most pizza joints are not even in the game. Those names don't bare suggesting, though I'm kind of doing just that. But those are the billion dollar entities that don't actually matter in the realm of a proper food that's created for another entirely different audience. Though in the still not true bottom of the barrel level, a handful of local pizza places could easily raise their status by simply making good dough instead of whatever they are making. read more

Visited Novanta for lunch for the first time this afternoon. The venue had a modern and rustic feel to it with plenty of seating (for a Saturday afternoon). The service was really friendly and the pizza pies were reasonably priced (between $11-$14 per pie). We ended up getting the sausage pie and the pepperoni pie! The sausage and basil combination was very flavorful and so tasty (my favorite pie at Novanta)! The pepperoni was good, but the pepperoni flavor wasn't as strong as I typically like (personal preference). The pepperoni pie was actually made twice for me because the first time it didn't survive the oven (staff were very accommodating and it was no issue!). The pie sizes and prices are pretty similar to Pizza Brutta (another one of my favorites). Would recommend for quick, tasty, and affordable pies! read more

Tried this place with the husband and fam during our Madison vacay. Overall it was good. Pizza was very fresh. I got an anchovy pizza, and they forgot the anchovies! The woman who came to bring my pizza apologized but then put what seemed to be cold anchovies on the pizza which was a bummer. Me and my mom originally stopped at a different pizza place but they did not have a sit in, boy am I glad that was the case. After looking for a new place we found Novanta. When we walked up to Novanta we were greeted with a wonderful smell from the outside that only grew when inside. Once inside we were welcomed by a very friendly and helpful women. Another thing that drew me to this place was that they had pizza without red sauce, as I'm not a huge fan. Once we made our selection we sat and we didn't have to wait long at all, really living up to its name of "90". The pizzas were in good proportion and not piled on with toppings and grease. The tastes were truly brought out with uniqueness. A thin crunchy crust and soft base, pure bliss. Normally we don't get dessert but the pizza was so good we got Cannoli. This was also simply wonderful. The first bite was a mixture of crunchy and soft, the flavors blending incredibly together. Overall everything about this dining experience was a 10/10, I would highly recommend Novanta to anyone who wants reasonably priced and mouth watering Pizza. read more

Novanta Pizzeria is one of our favorite wood fire pizza places in Madison. We went to the University Ave location, which was in a nice area with lots of other things to do. Parking is available in the back. You order your dish at the counter and then seat yourself. The ambiance is nice. They have an open kitchen design, so depending on where you choose to sit, you can see them make your pizza. We opted to get one Margherita pizza (the metric by which we rate any pizza place), one Vegetariana pizza, and one Marsala pizza. All 3 were fantastic and complemented each other well. The pies were also beautiful, so your pictures will turn out well. They had a selection of desserts that looked very tempting, but we decided to be good and skipped. The rating of a one is being generous. The worst pizza we have had by far. The pizza: floppy and flaccid. The pizza sauce, yuck, the mozzarella was tasteless and gross. Hardly any sausage, and where was the garlic and basil? Please save yourself the stomach turning agony and go somewhere else. Really unpleasant treatment tonight for a call-in order. I arrived at the restaurant tonight at 6 to pick up my pizza, and waited as the counter person typed into an iPad... and typed...and typed...and typed. She finally looked up, acknowledged me, gave me my food, and I said.... "Just a word of advice, if you see someone waiting that long, it would be common courtesy to look up and say, "Be with you in a minute.". She snapped back at me, "I couldn't do that. I was occupied." Then snarled in a halfhearted way...."I'm sorry you felt ignored." (a non-apology apology). I said, "It would have taken a SECOND to acknowledge me. a SECOND." Prompt and professional service by people passionate for pizza. I stumbled upon this place today when I was trying to find parking at my usual lunch spot across the street. The location of this restaurant is next to the bagel factory. If you are going away from downtown, you need to make a U-turn to get over there to their location and parking is in the back. It really was not inconvenient, but it could be a reason why it was pretty slow in the restaurant today. I love the story of this place. The homemade pizza can be made from start to finish in 90 seconds. That is faster than you can get a coffee from Starbucks! This will be a great place to bring a big group of people or a bunch of kids because they could accommodate very large groups and get the food out very quickly. The decor and the beautiful Italian ovens that they have there are most likely very expensive. That means it will take a lot of pizza pies to pay for those babies. I would encourage anybody who likes very fresh delicious pizza at a decent price and a nice spacious atmosphere to stop on over at Novanta and check it out. I will definitely be back. read more

Excellent fast service. We called for a carry out order and it was done in the 30 minutes they told us! HIGHLY recommend the Marsala pizza- the Marsala cream added so much umami flavor and was excellent with the mushrooms! I'm not usually a crust person but Novanta does it right! It's the perfect amount of chewy and crunchy and not too thick. Unlike other neopolitan pizza places it's also not burnt! The Salsiccia was a little bit of a let down. A familiar flavor profile which could have been better with more Italian sausage. For dessert we got the the Nutella pizza. I found it a bit bland- essentially a pita filled with Nutella with cocoa powder sprinkled on top - but my partner who loves eating just straight Nutella really enjoyed it! I think this is my first Novanta review. We have enjoyed / LOVED Novanta for approx 8 years. I am up to 4 favorite Novanta pizzas! Novanta allows me and my family to tweak their existing recipes (i.e., add an egg here or there, a little extra prosciutto baked extra crispy). Besides their fresh ingredients & awesome pizza, we love their salads & desserts and of course their staff! We are always greeted like we are valued guests. Nick you have assembled a great team at both of your locations!! Thanks to all staff including but not limited to Ali, Franco, Josue and Romina!! When we are at Novanta it always seems like it is difficult to leave because of the warm, welcoming atmosphere you have created and maintain!! Spontaneously came upon this restaurant while driving by. Very clean inside, friendly staff. Roughly $9/pizza, each is a personal pizza ~ 10 inches. We ordered two pizzas - the Pepperoncini and the Lombardo. We both enjoyed the pizzas, each were unique with flavor. The pears of the Lombardo were sweet and I liked this pizza more, but the Pepperoncini was nicely spicy. I think my boyfriend was expecting something more like Glass Nickel, which is our go-to. Ever since Porta Alba went out of business, we've been wondering how we'd get our high-end pizza fix -- thankfully, my wife found Novanta and we decided to give it a try last night for carryout. It is GREAT! We got the Diavola and the Salsiccia, as well as the focaccia. The Focaccia is OK but the pizzas were fantastic.
