This seems to be a family owned business where the servers are also involved in the preparation of the food. We had reservations at 11:45 AM but since the servers were in the kitchen was not seated until closer to 10 minutes later. After I was seated, I was promptly brought water. I then ordered an appetizer of hummus. The amount of pita served with the hummus was very little. It was a nice sized portion of hummus there was definitely leftover hummus as you were only given a few pieces of small pita. Our server was very kind and very observant when I asked about dishes that were dairy free. She was very helpful on that. The ambience was very quiet, even though there was a a few tables nearby. Really nice ceilings. The food was good. It would be nice if there were more options on the menu as well as dairy free desserts. read more

I've come to this lovely restaurant a few times now and have had a great experience every time. The restaurant is on Monroe Street and has plenty of street parking and parking across the street. My boyfriend and I have had the kabob platter for 2 three times now - twice in person and once to go. It's $80, but it is a *ton* of food. There's lentil soup, salad, pita bread and sauces, rice, and 3 kabobs (chicken, steak, lamb, and roasted veggies). Plus, baklava for dessert! It has been absolutely delicious every single time. The staff is so friendly, and we've never needed to wait to sit. The food comes out pretty quickly. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to coming back! read more

Wow. Absolutely fantastic. From the woman playing a violin for ambience to the unbelievably wonderful food, this was a great night out. We met friends for dinner and all ordered the same thing - chicken sac kavurma- and everyone agreed it was a delight. Tender, fall apart chicken, grilled veg, rice to help soak up the delicious sauce - I would have absolutely demolished it had I not filled up on more than my fair share of Sarma. The filled grape leaves were the best I've had. And the flatbread had a hint of the charcoal grill it was warmed on, which when paired with the yogurt sauce was just perfection. We had creme brûlée for desert which was very tasty but lacked the caramelized sugar crust one would expect. I tried the Turkish tea and a glass of the red wine. The wine was smooth and complemented the meal nicely. Our server was very friendly and the pacing of the meal was perfect. As someone who is local to the Madison area, I really enjoyed this place. The service was top notch, along with the food. I went there and got the mixed entree for two, and somehow all three meats were so delicious. They cook it on an authentic turkish grill, which really gives it a different flavor. The old building is beautiful with arches and tin roof ceiling. We walked in and were immediately sat. Service was quick and friendly. We enjoyed every portion. We had seen the great reviews so we made a reservation for four on an early Saturday evening. It wasn't too busy when we arrived but when we left it was packed. This place is popular for good reason. After ordering some Turkish beers we placed our order with the friendly and helpful waitress. We liked that all of the entrees and kabobs came with soup, a small salad, rice, some yogurt sauce and pita. Everyone gave the lentil based soup a big thumbs up. I got the minced beef kabob as my entree and it was excellent - very juicy and moist with a bit of spice. My wife got the chicken "stew" and she liked it a lot. Again the meat was tender and not dried out. Our friends both ordered lamb - one the kabob and the other the "stew". They both raved about it. One hiccup was that the waitress brought out a chicken kabob vs the chicken stew but she had the stew out in a flash. Shortly afterward the owner/manager brought us the chicken kabobs and said they were "on the house". So we all got to sample that dish and added it to our leftovers (the servings were ample). The prices were reasonable for the quality and amount of food. We will return. read more

Came here for lunch and really enjoyed it! We ordered the charcoal grilled lamb with rice and ayran -- everything was full of flavor. The lamb was super tender and juicy, and the portion size was generous. They also brought us a complimentary lentil soup to start, which was absolutely delicious. We finished our meal with a little dessert pastry that hit the spot! The interior is cozy and decorated in a warm, Middle Eastern style -- it definitely adds to the experience. I was there for dinner on a weekday evening. The place had a lot of available seats at that time. I went for a kabab platter for 2. That was the best value if 3 or even 4 people are there. I started off with Mercimek soup which was flavorful. Ezme, Hummus, Babaganough and Haydari were my appetizers. All were good. Adana kebab was my favorite kebab. The place was cute and the service was good. Unfortunately the food was really plain and lacking flavor. Portions were very small. They were out of several key items on the menu . Their pita is not fresh and they give you tiny 4 tiny squares of pita bread. They also ran out of pita during dinner. The food was excellent here - zero issues with that! However, we had a very odd experience with our server and some issues with what was actually available on the menu. They were out of the chef's special and one of the other lamb dishes, so I ended up going with the rack of lamb which was phenomenal. A got the veggie kebabs which was also a beautifully plated dish and tasty as well! We also enjoyed our appetizer dips and the baba ganoush was exceptional! The issues - aside from being out of two dishes on the limited menu, we also never got any soup (advertised on their menu as coming with the meal) and when I asked our waitress she said they ran out - despite every other table around us having gotten bowls of soup. We also had issues getting our waters filled/refilled throughout the night which was pretty annoying. Honestly, even the acknowledgement that she forgot to bring us soup and an apology would have been fine, and some discount on the meal would have been nice, but it was the weirdest reply. Ambiance wise - it's clean and modern inside but still cozy with wood tables and benches. As good as the food was, there were some definite gaps in service and menu planning. read more

Turkish Kitchen is solidly a three star for me. We were able to make a same-day reservation over the phone for a party of 6. When we got there, there was confusion about the reservation but it turned out they had written it for the wrong day. It wasn't very busy so we were able to be seated. We ordered the Mixed Kebab Platter, the Chef's Special - Incik Kebab, and the Veggie Shish Kebab. These all came with the lentil soup, which we were looking forward to. The corresponding appetizers came right away but we didn't receive pita until much later. When the pita finally arrived, we realized it wasn't actually pita. We were given naan - the same kind you could get from Costco. A Google reviewer had noted this as well. The hummus was lacking in flavor as well as the haydari (yogurt-based). The entrees were decent. The lamb shank tasted good but the color of it seemed a bit off. It was more on the grey side - luckily nothing bad happened to any of us who ate it. We liked the variety of veggies on the Veggie Shish Kebab. The other room for improvement is being transparent in general and more timely with things. My husband ordered the Turkish beer. Instead, he was given a German brand beer. For the Turkish teas that people ordered, they took a very long time to bring the sugar cubes. We were understanding that the tea would take a while to brew. I think this place has potential. It's in a great location. But at this time, I don't think I will be returning. read more

Love the vibe in here. We got tea and the appetizer sampler to start. The appetizer comes with four full plates of hummus, babaganoush, pitas, a tomato dish and a creamy dip (can't remember the names). So good and way more food than expected. For the main course we got a veggie shish kebab to share. This came with a bowl of lentil soup, a delicious flavorful salad, and buttery soft rice. SO much food for $25, it really could have been shared by a party of four. The veggies were so flavorful- my favorites were the mushrooms, garlic, asparagus, and blistered peppers. Our server was a nice girl from Turkey who was very attentive and took very good care of us. If I could give this place 10 stars I would! This was the best Turkish food I've had in a very, very long time. Even better than some places in Turkey. Came right when they opened at 5pm as reservations are by only by phone. Was greeted by very friendly staff and sat right away. Service was phenomenal! Super nice waitress who was well informed of the plates and answered all of our questions. Started with the appetizer plate which is a lot of food! Comes with Ezme, Haydari, Babganoush and Hummus served with pita bread. Babganoush was SO fresh it was amazing and the pita was soft and warm, just a great start to the night this really set our expectations high for the entrees. We ordered a few entrees and so glad we did because they were out of this world. Starting with my favorite was the Iskender Kebab. This. Was. So. Freaking. Good. Meat was tender, pita was seasoned and buttered, tomato sauce was very savory. It was perfect. Next was the Pirzola which is their lamb chops and Adana shish kebab. Both were amazing and had so much flavor. Couldn't finish all of these plates and took a lot home but these were just delicious. Finished the some tea and baklava. Overall this was a great experience. The restaurant itself is much nicer compared to the other Mediterranean style establishments in the area. Mixed Kebab plate for 2 please. We substituted more lamb for the beef. It was divine as was the chicken. All served on a wonderful platter. We had plenty for the following day. Lentil soup and four appetizers preceded this. We washed it down with Turkish white wine. Service was super friendly and flexible. The restaurant is big enough for romantic couples and larger groups. Nice atmosphere but the food is very very expensive for the portion sizes. Two people, two basic meals and one drink $80. Adding what I didn't want to say with a photo of the meals to my original review after the business owner wants to make a petty and unprofessional comment about McDonald's. No, McDonald's is not comparable to your business but I chose to come to your business because I firmly believe in supporting the community. I didn't say I wasn't coming back, just sharing my review on a review platform that you should utilize to help your business grow. We ordered 2 meals, one of which is the Sucuk, glorified hot dog at most-see photo. This meal alone was $26.95. The other meal was $29.95. Rice was not real, out of box and bread was the $4.99 naan from the grocery store. I had one drink and left a 25% tip. So yes, this is very expensive for the portion you see in the photo. The server was nice but made it very clear they don't work there and they are just helping. The dust was disgusting, if you don't believe me look on their shelves and look up. Fresh food, large portions and tasty! Went here for lunch on a Saturday and was promptly seated by our waiter who could not have been any nicer. Turkish tea came with meal for free. As did a lentil soup with a lemon wedge. (Wr squeezed the lemon juice into the soup and mixed it in...tasted nice that way. We ordered an appetizer haydari and a charcoal roasted chicken leg with rice and a charcoal roasted lamb with wrap. Both were delicious, fresh and filling. Loved our visit here. Visited as a table of 3 and ordered the kebab plate for 2, came with generous amounts of chicken, lamb, beef. They kindly served the soup in 3 separate bowls. Comes with pita, rice, yogurt dip, soup, baba ganoush and ezme. Was upset they had just run out of hummus that night, it was about 7.30pm. We were also not a fan of the lamb. The chicken (thighs) to me was yummy but nothing too special-- all in all good though! Overall great ambiance, wonderful attentive and smiley servers that seem very committed to maintaining the Turkish flavor of the entire dining experience. The cacik (yogurt sauce) was absolutely divinely addictive and the rice came nice and fluffy (not flavored). This is NOT your average Turkish dining experience; the food is hands down outstanding. I have eaten here once in person and gotten take out twice. I keep ordering the chicken kebab entree- which comes with delicious soup, flatbread, dips, rice, and roasted vegetables. It is a lot of food! And it is also just mouth-watering-delicious. They have also been really gracious and accommodating to my dietary restrictions (no gluten and dairy). We will definitely be eating here again! We were seated immediately as we arrived and received timely service. Modern but clean vibes, with a pair of roses on each table. Ordered the mixed kebab platter for 2, and loved that it came with soup, rice and all of the appetizer dips. The pita bread had a nice crisp outer layer and a fluffy body to it. My favorite dip was the Haydari, very similar to tzatziki but without cucumber and the yogurt they used for it was fantastic. As for the kebabs, they were all cooked perfectly. Lamb and chicken were tender and juicy; I think what would have bumped it a star is if they were seasoned a more evenly, some pieces were better than others. Breakfast platter was awesome, the honey was so floral and I'd never had molasses with tahini before so that was phenomenal. The turkish sausage was very tasty and everything else simply tasted very fresh and it all went well together. My partner got the lamb shish kabob which was slightly overcooked but decent tasting. Another fantastic dining experience! Alsi was our server this time and she was so sweet. Our food came out promptly and each dish was flavorful, savory and filling. Their lentil soup has a delicious flavor and aroma and the kebabs are almost sweet in taste. I wonder if they wood fire them? I would love to know! We again enjoyed the complimentary wine but this time also enjoyed a complimentary cup of tea to begin our meal as well. There were quite a few more patrons than when we came last, which we love to see, but we're still able to get right in with no wait on a Wednesday night around 5:30pm. We went to the Turkish kitchen solely to try the breakfast and we thought it was an incredible experience! We the Turkish tea which was super tasty and came with real sugar cubes! We also tried the ayran which was not my favorite but likely because it was very authentic(the server had said it's a pretty acquired taste). As far as the breakfast we got served lentil soup which was fantastic, an assortment of pita with different jams and honey, cheeses and a marinated vegetable dish, a plate with eggs, peppers and sausage as well as hummus and homemade babaganoush. It was a wonderful experience trying new food. The server we had was very young but incredibly professional and we were checked on frequently and explained what each dish was very thoroughly. Tucking into a bowl of Mercimek lentil soup at Turkish Kitchen on Saturday night was pure delight. My spouse and I shared the mixed kebab for two which came with the soup, four dips, rice, salad, three kebabs, and baklava for dessert. Our server was so kind and graciously offered me a plate of veggies to accompany the dips due to a gluten sensitivity which prevented me from enjoying the warm pita. The Adana kebab was incredibly flavorful with lovely spices. The chicken kebab was surprisingly moist and the lamb was super tender. I was underwhelmed by the appetizer dips. They were very neutral in flavor. I prefer a little more garlic in my humus and lemon/herbs in babaganoush. Remnants of the former German restaurant live on in all the cozy woodwork. They do take reservations, and if you are going at peak dining hours they are needed. Otherwise show up early (like we did) or after the dinner rush. The chef sent out a dish to try--likely because it was a slow night--but still, what a great move. We ordered a dessert that came with 4 pieces, but they added in two extras so everyone could have their own. Other things happened too, but I don't want to name them for fear people will walk in and expect the same. There was a spirit of generosity shown to our table and we reciprocated.
