This is the only time I can remember throwing away leftovers. Ordered Chicken Biryani mild. Too spicy. Very little chicken. No noticeable content other than rice, spices, chicken. There are so many better restaurants. I ordered Kheer. Just rice pudding. Not Kheer. Very disappointing. I picked up the food. Parking lot was very icy. Service to pick up was very slow. I arrived when I was told the food would be ready. I waited over 15 minutes. The restaurant was very not busy. The restaurant was so weird. Decorations were bizarre. Place was dirty. Los Angeles out-of-towner here visiting family who absolutely love this place but don't have yelp accounts! I was shocked to see a low rating for what is a fabulous local small business serving incredibly delicious Indian/Nepali food. Our party of 9 were the only patrons at 6pm on a Tuesday evening and we were very well taken care of by the owners of the establishment. Most of the party are vegetarians, and thoroughly enjoyed the Tofu Buff with rice. The Baingan Bhartha and Paneer Masala were both extremely flavorful and so tasty! The other half of the party eats meat, and we had the Chicken Bhartha, the Chicken Mango (soooooo delicious), Chicken Tikka Masala, and Shrimp Korma. Everything was well seasoned, and I was so impressed to have such authentic food out in Madison (Los Angeles has no shortage of good Indian food, and this place easily ranks up there with them.) Love the way their Nepali roots work their way into the flavors of the dishes. We also had some mango lassi (delicious) and of course, garlic and aloo naan. No meal is complete without it!!! I loved that they bring out continuous portions of rice for free. THAT is something you never see in LA. I wish I got pictures, but I was too busy eating. Mirch Masala has a great lunch buffet with many, many foods to choose from. Just one dish had a slight bit of heat and everything was very delicious. For only $15 you can try so many different dishes! I'm not sure that our buffet line started on the correct end, as the dishes that would normally be served on rice came before the rice. But no worries, as having the rice next to the chicken Tikka masala is just as awesome! Our server was tending to the entire lunch crowd, in addition to seating and settling checks, and she did it with a smile. She was awesome. I wish I can rate them better. The owners and the waitress seem genuinely wanting to help and were rushing to take care of you but they are severely short staffed. If you go- expect a long wait. On top of that I didn't find the flavors of the curry out of the ordinary. We ordered the non veg dinner for 2 which came with a chicken pakora appetizer, lamb curry, chicken tandoori, butter chicken, rice, naan and a desert. Naan wasn't fresh out of the oven. The portion size was good. I asked for spicy but it was no way near spicy. Our saving grace was the hot homemade Chilli sauce they gave us. The prices by the way are way cheaper than the usual west side Indian restaurants. There was plenty of food for the cost of this meal. They gave us gulab Jamun as the desert which is one of worse I have had in Madison. Sadly- it wasn't even sweet and traditionally this sweet dish is extremely sweet. Pretty quiet for this election day lunch (April 2023). The food was pretty average. I think because they don't have many customers yet, food turnover is low. They do seem to be struggling with the move off of State. Spice level is 1.5 to 2 (of 5) depending on what you eat, where one is Midwest spicy. Food labeling is a little inadequate, especially the sauces. The way the dishes are placed doesn't make a whole lot of sense. They do have naan but it's easy to miss and I didn't see it until I got dessert. read more

Awesome daily Indian lunch buffet on Madison west side! Met my friend from India there for lunch as to get his take and he enjoyed it too, and was happy for the vegetarian options. Me being a carnivore American loved everything, from the chicken tiki masala to the mimosas that were top notch. Everything was fresh and abundant. Read a couple lesser reviews and obvious these peeps are clueless. They had a spicy chicken dish which was like an Indian kung pao, spicy and damn good. The noodle dish was fantastic. Indian white rice and a yummy tomato rice. Lots of other delicious dishes as well. Plenty to choose from, plenty of food, they were not low on anything, loved the naan and chutneys. Look, I love Swagat, Swad, Maharana, but for the price and the quality, combined with the selection, Mirch Masala rocked it! read more

I was never at their State Street location, but I have been told this one is much larger. Not sure the location is better though since its kinda tucked out of the way, The food was wonderful when we finally got some, service needs major work. Sunday around 1PM, 5 of us stopped in for lunch. Not many people there, yet the Buffet was totally empty :( We asked if they were going to fill it and the server said yes, but everyone (12 people?) all came in at once and no one called ahead to reserve times? (really? its a lunch buffet place, and the dining room was nearly empty). There was only one server, and one cook so it took awhile. One person at our table ordered off the menu, the rest waited for some food to be put out. Slowly food was added, and when we could finally eat it was delicious. The Paneer Tikka off the menu was also wonderful. But service was horrible, not that the server wasn't working, but one person cannot do everything! HIRE SOME HELP! The server kept disappearing. One guy went up to pay and he had to wait almost 10 mins for her to take care of him. I understand the economy and help situation, BUT patrons will not come back in a place run like this. I won't go back, there are several other Indian places in town that have staff, I feel bad but since they all charge about the same price for food, why go to a place that can't serve you the way you expect when others can. Bottom Line: Maybe get take out since the food is good? Note to Resturant: HIRE SOMEONE, pay a fair wage, watch your dining room fill up! read more

The food was delicious at the lunch buffet we were charged for 2 adults for our kids ages 3, 6 and 9. That is way overpriced. We will not be back and post this everywhere. We used Eatstreet for delivery and they delivered the wrong order. Restaurant blamed Eatstreet. Eatstreet blamed the restaurant. I don't care how good their food is, if a restaurant says it has delivery and can't get it there, it doesn't have delivery. If it was Eatstreet's fault then the restaurant should cancel their arrangement. It is NEVER the customer's fault. I would not recommend. read more

I was so excited to drop in for lunch on a Friday. I've been to the State Street location several times before they closed when COVID hit and was even more excited as this was one of the few Indian restaurants that opened their lunch buffet back up. The lunch buffet opens at 11:30 and my sister and I arrived just little after that. When we arrived, there were also several other parties waiting for the lunch buffet. I hastily set my things down and walked up to the buffet line. When I grabbed my plate, I saw there was no naan-- I was quite surprise, perhaps they weren't prepared for the lunch rush? There were a few options, but sadly, it did not compare at all to what their lunch buffet used to be nor did it compare to any of the other Indian lunch buffets I've been to. The quality of the food was tasty, but for a lunch buffet, I was quite disappointed in the selection (low on naan throughout our dining experience, no mango ice cream, no raita sauce just to name a few). Service was kind, but we did have to ask for a couple straws three times before actually getting them. Hopefully I just went on an off day, and I am aware they just recently opened this location on the west side of Madison, but this experience didn't live up to my expectations, sadly. read more

We noticed this restaurant, serving Nepalese and Indian food, in the early evening, during a familiarization walk around the neighborhood of our Radisson located on Grand Canyon Drive in Madison, WI. A young lady with a captivating smile, greeted us at the lobby as we entered. She escorted us to a booth, supplied us menus and returned with water. We ordered fish pakora as an appetizer and lamb masala. The pakora was rather unremarkable -- nothing special. But the lamb masala was absolutely delicious. "Fantastic" would not be an over-statement. We highly recommend it. read more

Went for a birthday lunch with my two kids (6 & 9). It was a Wednesday and we arrived at noon for the buffet. We stood at the front counter for more than 10 minutes before a woman came from the kitchen and acknowledged us. She told us to sit wherever we wanted, and since there was only one table with a group of four in the restaurant, we had our pick. It was another 5 minutes before she returned with waters. We had no place settings yet but we went to the buffet to get food. They were not busy at all, and yet there was almost no food in the pans. There were two little triangles of dried out naan, one piece of chicken in the Tikka Masala, one cube of cheese in the Saag Paneer, a few samosas, and the most overcooked vegetable pakora you could imagine. The only thing there was enough of was rice, and some Chinese noodle dish...at an Indian buffet. Plenty of desserts, as well, but we hadn't even had real food yet. We got back to the table and I had to walk around the dining room to get place settings that were left on other tables. I managed to find three set of silverware scattered over three different tables. No help from the one employee in the dining room. The place got a little busier, but the kitchen was only bringing out small portions to add to the pans on the buffet, which got taken immediately. The food was fine. Not terrible, but certainly not that good. We finished up and headed to the counter to pay. After another lengthy wait, the employee came to ring us up. The bill was over $50 for one adult and two children. They charged the same price for everyone, including my six-year-old, who literally had a spoonful of rice and a scoop of mango ice cream. This place should just close its doors. With a wealth of good Indian buffets in and around Madison, like Swagat, Swad, and Maharani, I'm never going back to Mirch Masala. You'll skip it too, if you want to actually enjoy your lunch. read more
